Send us a textDavos reaches White Harbor. The intel he's able to pick up does not bode very well for his King Stannis. He wonders if he should have fled with Salladhor. Mackelly and Simon give him a pep talk.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth arrives in White Harbor aboard the Merry Midwife. He's disguised as a common sailor. He notes signs of increased defense and military buildup. This could be good news, but then he sees the Lionstar at the dock, flying Tommen's colors. Inside the city, he sees many refugees who've fled down the White Knife to avoid Ramsay Bolton's tyranny. An apple seller tells him that the young men who arrive are being drafted into Lord Manderly's army. In a seedy winesink, Davos listens for gossip. It's mostly old news but he learns that Wyman Manderly's son is held by the Lannisters. Davos knows that he should have gone south with Salladhor Saan. Even Davos would sell out his king to save his son.But he's on a mission, so he climbs up to the palace. From this vantage he sees 23 new warships hiding behind a new jetty wall. Send us a textDavos is marooned on Sweetsister, Salladhor Saan has lost patience with his unpaid service to Stannis. The local lord is sorely tempted to sell his guest to Queen Cersei. But tradition dictates that he aids a rebel. Mackelly and Simon assume Davos will be OK, at least until he gets to White Harbor.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is brought before Lord Godric Borrell. The onion knight has rowed to Sweetsister after being abandoned by Salladhor Saan. The Lyseni pirate has given up following orders after half his ships were lost to storms on the journey south from Eastwatch. That is the final straw after Stannis has shown no sign of rewarding anyone for their service. Instead he intends to sail to the Stepstones for some more profitable piracy.Lord Godric ponders selling Davos to Cersei - who is in charge again after the death of Tywin, which is news to Davos. Godric won't allow a bird to be sent to Castle Black - he won't take sides in the Game of Thrones. But he does recall his father aiding Ned Stark in a similar fashion at the start of Robert's Rebellion. Ned got away, leaving a fisherman's daughter pregnant - she called the child Jon. Davos can go to White Harbor but the Manderlys have thrown their lot in with the Freys. Davos, with the aid of several co-conspirators, returns to his smuggling ways. When he comes clean to King Stannis and Melisandre they are really angry. Stannis prepares to take more than just a few fingers from Davos. However, Davos has what he hopes is an ace up his sleeve. Mackelly and Simon sure hope Davos knows what he's doing.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth, and several trustworthy king's men, enter Maester Pylos' chambers. They ask for Edric Storm, and the maester tells Edric to listen to the King's Hand. The men take Edric to a boat. The boy tries to be brave but it becomes clear he's nervous and uncertain. Davos persuades him to get on the boat and Edric's cousin Andrew Estermont and several other men accompany Edric.Davos makes his way to the Painted Table to wait for Stannis and confess his treachery. When Stannis and Melisandre arrive they are arguing about whether Joffrey Baratheon is indeed dead. Melisandre saw it in her flames, but Stannis doesn't trust the accuracy of the flames. Davos confirms Melisandre's story. He's been told that Joffrey died during his wedding feast. With that, Melisandre feels the case has been proven for her work with Edric's blood and asks for the rest of the boy to wake the stone dragons and win Stannis his throne.Davos explains why that's not possible. Stannis is extremely disappointed with his Hand. Davos explains that, as Hand, it is his job to help the king protect his people. Edric is one of the king's people. Davos speaks the truth to king Stannis and is rewarded with his freedom and a promotion. Melisandre uses the blood (not all of it, thankfully) of Edric Storm to curse the false kings: Joffrey Baratheon, Balong Greyjoy, and Robb Stark. Mackelly and Simon hope that Robb's string of bad luck is behind him.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is brought from the dungeons of Dragonstone by Axel Florent, the brother of his cellmate Alester. Florent shares that he has seen Stannis on the throne in the flames. But a precondition was that he, Axel, become Stannis' Hand of the King. If Davos supports Florent good things will follow, but woe betide Seaworth should he fail to.Stannis asks Davos what he thinks of Floernt's plan to invade Claw Isle as punishment for Lord Celtigar's decision to bend the knee to Joffrey. Davos, Stannis' spirit animal, cannot help himself and dismisses the plan as pointless and unfair. The men of Claw Isle fought and died for Stannis on the Blackwater, while victory would be assured, those people deserve better of their king. Stannis agrees, dismisses Florent and makes Davos his Hand of the King.Enter Melisandre with a plate of swollen leeches. The blood comes from Edric Storm, Robert's bastard son, who is already much beloved within Dragonstone. The three leeches go in the flames each with a curse for Joffrey Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. “…we venerate the crooks, rapists, and pillagers credulous historians have repackaged as ‘founders,' ‘conquerors,' and ‘civilize.' We erect statues and consecrate tombs to commemorate their difference-making. But in fact, most of these monuments memorialize the dark deeds of unhinged lunatics driven by rampant ego and raving greed… most of the supposed ‘great men of history' were criminals on a rampage. We celebrate them because they ‘changed the world.' But where's the evidence that they changed it for the better?” — Chris Ryan“He who dies with the most toys wins.” — Malcolm Forbes “If we don't put aside our enmities and band together, we will die. And then it doesn't matter whose skeleton sits on the Iron Throne.” — Davos Seaworth, Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3In most episodes I tell a story about a specific event with a clear beginning and end. Occasionally, I tackle a theme and look at how it plays out throughout history. This is one of those times. Simple stories are great, but sometimes looking at the big picture is even more interesting. I am joined by Aziz Al-Doory from the History of Westeros podcast to chat about a central theme in history and, of course, in JRR Martin's work: the drive that makes individuals struggle for power throughout history. In particular, we look at the more extreme (but by no means rare) examples: what makes someone risk his position and wealth in an effort to plunge a country into civil war for the sake of power? What goes through someone's head who is willing to murder his siblings to get to the throne? Can uber-powerful people who executed their children and spouses ever have been happy? Why so many people have become addicted to a struggle that seems to be antithetical to having a good life? As we ponder the answer to these questions, we tackle multiple case studies: from the Japanese warring states period to Shaka Zulu's career, from the power struggle after the death of Alexander the Great to the conflict between Kublai Khan and his brother, and many more. Davos is imprisoned in the Dragonstone dungeon. He receives a visit from Melisandre, where he learns that she had no role in the disaster on the Blackwater, as well as learns that she believes Stannis is Azor Ahai reborn. Next he welcomes a new cellmate, in the form of Hand of the King Lord Alester Florent. Mackelly and Simon bake some cookies for the newbie on the block.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth finds himself in the dungeon of Dragonstone. It's dark and dank but at least it's warm. His illness from his time on the little island in Blackwater Bay has gotten worse. However, just when Davos thinks he'll soon die, Maester Pylos nurses him back to health.Melisandre pays him a visit. The Red Woman tells Davos that there is a war that has raged on since the dawn of time. A war between R'hllor and The Great Other. She also divulges that Stannis Baratheon is the Chosen One of R'hllor. He is Azor Ahai reborn. She saw it in her flames. Davos asks why she didn't save them from the flames on the Blackwater, if she can see the future? She explains that Stannis' faith was weak, and he left her at home. If she'd been there the outcome of the battle would've been different. Three days later, Davos gets a new cellmate. It's Stannis' Hand of the King Alester Florent. He's here for the crime of trying to broker a peace deal with the Lannisters, without the knowledge of King Stannis. His plan was for Stannis to recant his claims of Lannister incest and bend the knee to Joffery Baratheon. In response, the Lannisters will name Stannis lord of Dragonstone and Storm's End. To seal the deal, Shireen Baratheon and Tommen Lannister will marry. Davos can see the flaw in this plan. Stannis would never agree to any of it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. If you're ready for a howlin' good time, look no further than Dog Soldiers. The setup of a group of soldiers provides an ideal level of character development and werewolf fodder in this 2002 monster movie. Synopsis In the highlands of Scotland, a group of soldiers are deployed in a training mission. Before long they stumble across the scene of another squad that has been ripped apart by an unseen monster. The lone survivor, Davos Seaworth, is close lipped about what they were attacked by and why they were there, since they were using live rounds and not a part of the training mission. Soon howling and fast moving creatures start picking them off until they run into a zoologist named Megan, who knows exactly what is hunting them, werewolves. https://youtu.be/UX9S3hdgZ5g Review of Dog Soldiers This is honestly the first time I've even heard of Dog Soldiers. And it doesn't seem surprising given that it never had a wide release outside of the Sci Fi channel. This is a very simple movie with a relatively low budget. However, it squeezes every cent out of the budget and delivers a fun and entertaining monster movie. They opted to go completely practical with the effects, which limits a lot of what they can do with the werewolves, but it was the right choice given where CG was at the time.  There are some shots early on of the werewolves that are pretty laughable, in that they look like peachfuzz from Creep, but for the most part they limit the appearance of the werewolves in ways that hide how goofy they look full on. Regardless of the special effects, the plot, characters, and dialogue in the movie are what make it worth watching in my opinion. The relationships seem real, the dialogue is fun, and the actors really pull off great performances. This is a passion project of writer/director Neil Marshall, who is obviously having fun, and puts in a lot of references and call backs to his favorite movies throughout. While it might not be a “great” movie, the fun is infectious and its a compelling setup with some satisfying twists at the end. Davos gets back to Dragonstone where Salladhor Saan tries to dissuade him from attempting to murder Melisandre. Davos is determined, but is arrested before he even gets close. Simon and Mackelly apply the aloe.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth returns to a much changed Dragonstone. The harbor is only sparsely populated with Lysene ships and there are very few people around. He meets with old friend Salladhor Saan, who fills him in on the news. King Stannis and Melisandre spend all their time together staring into the flames of the volcano. Queen Selyse and her uncle Alester have taken over the day-to-day running of the diminished kingdom. Their zeal for the religion of R'Hellor has now seen them burning alive those who don't follow it, or them.Saan confirms that Davos' son Devan was saved and is in Dragonstone. The Lyseni suggests that Davos return to the seas. He has a ship he could captain, and the new laws allow for them to intercept, board, and pillage almost any ships in the bay. It'll be fun. Like old times. Maybe go visit Mrs. Seaworth at Cape Wrath? Davos is having none of it. He was saved from death by the Mother. And the Mother has only one mission for him: kill the red priestess who brought down all this misfortune upon them.He goes to the castle, where he is happy to see Shireen, puzzled by Patchface's prophetic babbling, and meets Edric Storm, Robert's bastard son, who proves to be a decent lad. Before Davos can get any further, Axell Florent and armed guards arrest him and send him to the dungeons for attempting to assassinate "their lady." Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - Onion Knight. He recalls the battle and the almost certain death of four of his sons, and wonders if he should just let the sea take him.A ship appears heading in his direction. He's not sure if he wants saving, but he prays to the mother and she appears to remind him that he took part in the burning of her effigy on Dragonstone. Davos is pretty sorry for all that he has done. But his ruminations give him a new determination to survive. Davos sails into Blackwater Bay with Stannis' giant fleet. He has some misgivings, but initially the battle goes to plan. However, a series of barges full of wildfire sail into the fleet and all is lost. Davos is thrown overboard but is being drawn into the burning mess that is gathering on Tyrion's great chain. Simon and Mackelly pick through the flotsam.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth stands on the deck of the Black Betha, in the second row of King Stannis Baratheon's fleet. The enormous fleet is made up of 10 rows of 20 ships, not including the ships of Salladhor Saan's Lysene fleet that will stay out in the Blackwater Bay as the rear guard.Ser Imry Florent, brother to Stannis's wife Selyse, has been named Lord High Captain of the fleet. He plans to use the fleet's superior numbers to overwhelm the much smaller royal fleet. Once they've been dispatched, the ships will both land troops on the northern bank of the Blackwater Rush and ferry Stannis and his army across from the southern bank. Ser Davos has reservations about the plan, most notably the decision to take all 200 ships into the river at once. When the two sides meet, the fighting is fierce. However, it's clear that the numbers of Stannis' fleet will carry the day for them. Everything changes when boats ladened with wildfire are drifted into the fleet. As they are rammed or catch fire, the explosions are immense. When the first boat explodes, Davos is thrown from his ship. As he treads water, he sees many other ships engulfed in green flames. Davos figures he'll let the river current take him out to the bay to meet up with Saan's fleet for rescue. But as he looks down-river, he sees that a thick boom chain has been raised across the mouth of the river, trapping them all. The current is taking him right for it and the burning husks that have been trapped against it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Davos has rejoined his king, but admires the implacable Cortnay Penrose a lot more than Stannis' new supporters. Davos smuggles Melisandre beneath the walls of Storm's End where she gives birth to a shadow in Stannis' form. Simon and Mackelly pick over the afterbirth. Chapter Review: Ser Cortnay parlays with Stannis and supporters beneath the walls of Storm's End. He refuses to yield the castle while one of the conditions is handing over Edric Storm. Stannis' new bannermen try to reassure Penrose, but the old knight throws scorn on their trustworthiness. Ser Cortnay offers single combat to settle matters without a siege, but Stannis demurs. Davos rides back with Stannis who confides that forgiving the lords that followed Renly sticks in his craw. Davos advises the king to forget Storm's End and focus on King's Landing. But Stannis is confident that Ser Cortnay dies tonight and the castle, and his bastard nephew, will be his. To that end, Davos recreates his fabled onion-run when he saved Stannis and the denizens of Storm's End from salvation. This time, he brings not food, but Melisandre. She may also cause tears. En route, they discuss good and evil and the grey areas in between. When they arrive beneath the walls, the way is blocked by a portcullis, but they're close enough. Meslisandre reveals that she is very pregnant and immediately gives birth to a shadow the size and shape of Stannis Baratheon. Davos wonders what he's done. On Dragonstone, Davos watches Melisandre burn the gods of The Seven. He has a drink with pirate Salladhor Saan. He meets with King Stannis and is commissioned to go spread the word of Stannis' rightful claim to the people of Westeros. Simon and Mackelly consider converting.  Chapter Review: Melisandre reveals the prophecy of Azor Ahai and his flaming sword Lighhtbringer, from the time of heroes. She tells that Stannis is the embodiment of the fabled hero and he withdraws a flaming sword from the burning effigies of the seven false gods of Westeros. Davos is impressed by Melisandre's powers, but concerned by Stannis' willingness to alienate what few allies they have.  Davos has a pint with Salladhor Saan, a Lysene pirate. He brings news of the wars on the mainland and demands that they attack King's Landing while it is vulnerable. Saan also has a very negative view of the whole Azor Ahai thing - he, Azor Ahai, murdered his wife to make his sword, not exactly an inspiring antecedent for Stannis to emulate.  Davos meets with Stannis. The king wants his smuggler to sail to every port in Westeros with news of Joffrey's parentage and Stannis' rightful claim. Davos doubts that they have the proof, but Stannis reminds him of Edric Storm - Robert's recognized bastard son at Storm's End. Stannis bemoans that he is in the right, but has the least gold and men of the various claimants. He notes that his only assets are his navy and Melisandre.  Characters/Places/Names/Events: Stannis Baratheon - (Arguably) The rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms. Elder brother of Renly Baratheon. Husband to Selyse. Father of Shireen.  Melisandre - The Red Woman of Ashaii. Priestess of R'Hellor, the Lord of Light. Advisor to King Stannis.  Selyse (Florent) Baratheon - Wife of Stannis Baratheon, (arguably) rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Mother of Shireen.  Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Advisor to King Stannis Baratheon.  Maester Pylos - Young maester, sent to Dargonstone to replace the frail Maester Cresson. Maester Cresson - 80 year-old maester of Dragonstone. Long-time servant of the Baratheon family.  Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Crowned King in the North after his victory at Riverrun.  Eddard "Ned" Stark - Erstwhile hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and deceased King Robert's closest friend. Beheaded for treason by order of King Joffrey Baratheon.  Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne.  Joffrey Baratheon - King of the Seven Kingdoms, as son of the former King Robert. Known to be the bastard son of his mother Cersei and her twin Jamie Lannister.  Salladhor Saan - Pirate prince of the Narrow Sea. Former accomplice of Davos Seaworth's smuggling. We hit the quarterish mark of Dance by returning to our normal four chapter slate, and we've got our big three mixed with a fan fave today. War comes to Meereen from every angle at the same time war grows in the north, and it's just a little bit influenced by Jon Snow. Things get real creepy- and real important- on the Rhoyne and the Shy Maid, while Davos Seaworth steps into the Mermen's Court armed with his loyalty, his bravery, and not much else. Today's chapters are: - Daenerys III - Jon IV - Tyrion V - Davos III   Step aboard the Isle for some conversations on Daenery's sexual awakening in Dance, the temptation she is tested with (it ain't her last), Jon's incredible skill and value up in the north (with his own temptation), Tyrion entering the world of the horror chapter, how our view of the whole series changes with this one chapter, and how Davos III might be the best ever chapter for our rereading project Check out History of Westeros for the live streams and main analysis, plus how to get involved with the Flick community: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiYwENpLDO4gyB4dBrMYrjQ Please do consider giving us a rating or review if you can, and find more of the Isle of Faces and other projects at https://twitter.com/SerBuckley https://patreon.com/IsleOfFaces

The Liverpool native took over the voicing duties from Ringo Starr as the narrator of the UK version of Thomas the Tank Engine And Friends in 1991. He narrated 13 series of the popular children’s TV show in Britain from 1991 to 2012 as well as several other products and media related to the franchise. . The program’s name was later shortened to Thomas and Friends. Dick short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” tells the story of a construction worker bored with his humdrum life, seeming everyman Douglas Quaid starred by Arnold Schwarzenegger (not exactly the paragon of “everyman,” but hey, that’s Hollywood) who suddenly finds himself embroiled in espionage on Mars and unable to determine if the experiences are real or the result of memory implants. With a budget of $50–60 million, Total Recall was one of the most expensive films made at the time of its release, although estimates of its production budget vary and whether it ever actually held the record is not certain.Remembrances2 June 1785 – Jean Paul de Gua de Malves - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Paul_de_Gua_de_MalvesFrench mathematician who published in 1740 a work on analytical geometry in which he applied it, without the aid of differential calculus, to find the tangents, asymptotes, and various singular points of an algebraic curve. He further showed how singular points and isolated loops were affected by conical projection. He gave the proof of Descartes's rule of signs which is to be found in most modern works. It is not clear whether Descartes ever proved it strictly, and Newton seems to have regarded it as obvious. De Gua de Malves was acquainted with many of the French philosophes during the last decades of theAncien Régime. He was an early, short-lived, participant, then editor (later replaced by Diderot) of the project that ended up as theEncyclopédie. Dennis Diderot called him "profound geometrician" at his funeral. He died in Paris.2 June 1970 – Albert Lamorisse - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_LamorisseFrench filmmaker, film producer, and writer of award-winning short films which he began making in the late 1940s. He also invented the strategic board game Risk originally released as La Conquête du Monde (The Conquest of the World) in France in 1957. Lamorisse's best known work is the short film The Red Balloon (1956), which earned him the Palme d'Or Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and an Oscar for writing the Best Original Screenplay in 1956. In the mid-sixties Lamorisse shot parts of The Prospect of Iceland, a documentary about Iceland, which was made by Henry Sandoz and commissioned by NATO. He died in a helicopter crash in Karaj while filming the documentaryLe Vent des amoureux (The Lovers' Wind), during a helicopter-tour in 1970 at the age of 48.2 June 1990 – Rex Harrison - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_HarrisonSir Reginald Carey Harrison, known as Rex Harrison, was an English actor of stage and screen. Harrison began his career on the stage in 1924. He made his West End debut in 1936 appearing in the Terence Rattigan play French Without Tears, in what was his breakthrough role. He won his first Tony Award for his performance as Henry VIII in the play Anne of the Thousand Days in 1949. He won his second Tony for the role of Professor Henry Higgins in the stage production of My Fair Lady in 1957. In addition to his stage career, Harrison also appeared in numerous films. His first starring role was opposite Vivien Leigh in the romantic comedy Storm in a Teacup . His other roles since then include Cleopatra as Julius Cesar, My Fair Lady ( reprising his role as Henry Higgins which earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor), and the title role of the English doctor who talks to animals, Doctor Dolittle (1967). Harrison was not by any objective standards a singer (his talking on pitch style he used in My Fair Lady would be adopted by many other classically trained actors with limited vocal ranges); the music was usually written to allow for long periods of recitative, or "speaking to the music". Nevertheless, "Talk to the Animals", which Harrison performed in Doctor Dolittle, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1967. He died from pancreatic cancer in Manhattan,New York City at the age of 82.2 June 2017 – Peter Sallis - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_SallisEnglish actor, known for his work on British television. He was the voice of Wallace in the Academy Award-winning Wallace and Gromit films and played Norman "Cleggy" Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine from its 1973 inception until the final episode in 2010, making him the only actor to appear in all 295 episodes. He also voiced Rat in The Wind in the Willows animated series, appeared in Danger Man in the episode "Find and Destroy" as Gordon; the BBCDoctor Who serial "The Ice Warriors" as renegade scientist Elric Penley and in an episode of The Persuaders! "The Long Goodbye" . While a student in 1983, animator Nick Park wrote to Sallis asking him if he would voice his character Wallace, an eccentric inventor. Sallis agreed to do so for a donation of £50 to his favourite charity. The work was eventually released in 1989 and Aardman Animations' Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out went on to win a BAFTA award.Sallis reprised his role in the Oscar- and BAFTA Award-winning films The Wrong Trousers in 1993 and A Close Shave in 1995. His last role as Wallace was in 2010's Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention. Sallis then retired due to ill health, with Ben Whitehead taking over the role. He died from natural causes in Denville Hall, London at the age of 96.Famous Birthdays2 June 1774 – William Lawson - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Lawson_(explorer)English-born Australian explorer, land owner, grazier and politician who migrated to Sydney,New South Wales in 1800. Along with his close friends and colleagues Gregory Blaxland and William Wentworth, he pioneered the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains by European settlers. Lawson commenced his exploration of the Blue Mountains alongside Blaxland and William Charles Wentworth on 11 May 1813. He kept a journal of the expedition titled, 'W Lawsons Narrative. Across Blue Mountains'. After the crossing, Lawson, like Blaxland and Wentworth, was rewarded with a grant of 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land by Governor Macquarie. He selected his land along the Campbells River, part of the Bathurst settlement for which he was appointed Commandant until his retirement in 1824. Whilst Commandant he continued to undertake expeditions, and in 1821, with Constable Blackman, discovered the Cudgegong River and further explored Mudgee and its outlying regions. In 1963 Lawson was honoured, together with Blaxland and Wentworth, on a postage stamp issued by Australia Post depicting the Blue Mountains crossing. He was born in Middlesex.2 June 1904 – Johnny Weissmuller - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_WeissmullerAustro-Hungarian-born American competition swimmer, water polo player and actor. He was known for playing Edgar Rice Burroughs' ape man Tarzan in films of the 1930s and 1940s and for having one of the best competitive swimming records of the 20th century. Weissmuller was one of the world's fastest swimmers in the 1920s, winning five Olympic gold medals for swimming and one bronze medal for water polo. He was the first to break the one minute barrier for 100-meter freestyle, and the first to swim 440-yard freestyle under five minutes. He won fifty-two U.S. national championships, set more than 50 world records (spread over both freestyle and backstroke),and was purportedly undefeated in official competition for the entirety of his competitive career. After retiring from competitions, he became the sixth actor to portray Tarzan, a role he played in twelve feature films. Dozens of other actors have also played Tarzan, but Weissmuller is by far the best known. Weissmuller's distinctive Tarzan yell is still often used in films in his legacy. His acting career began when he signed a seven-year contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and played the role of Tarzan in Tarzan the Ape Man (1932). The movie was a huge success and Weissmuller became an overnight international sensation. The author of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs, was pleased with Weissmuller, although he so hated the studio's depiction of a Tarzan who barely spoke English. In a total of 12 Tarzan films, Weissmuller earned an estimated $2,000,000 and established himself as what many movie historians consider the definitive Tarzan. When Weissmuller finally left the role of Tarzan, he immediately traded his loincloth costume for a slouch hat and safari suit for the role of Jungle Jim for Columbia. He made 13 Jungle Jim films between 1948 and 1954. He was born in Szabadfalva (Freidorf).2 June 1961 – Liam Cunningham - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liam_CunninghamIrish stage and screen actor. He is known for playing Davos Seaworth in the HBO epic-fantasy series Game of Thrones. Cunningham has been nominated for the London Film Critics' Circle Award, the British Independent Film Award, has won two Irish Film & Television Awards, and shared a BAFTA with Michael Fassbender, for their crime-drama short film Pitch Black Heist. Cunningham came to international prominence with his role as Captain Ryan in the critically acclaimed, independent horror film,Dog Soldiers. Cunningham was producer Philip Segal’s first choice to portray the Eighth Doctor in the TV movie of Doctor Who (1996), but was vetoed by Fox executives. He was born inEast Wall,Dublin.4 June 1950 – Clifford Stoll - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifford_StollClifford Paul "Cliff" Stoll, American astronomer, author and teacher. He is best known for his investigation in 1986, while working as a systems administrator at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, that led to the capture of hackerMarkus Hess, and for Stoll's subsequent book The Cuckoo's Egg, in which he details the investigation. Stoll has written three books, articles in the non-specialist press and is a frequent contributor to the mathematics YouTube channel Numberphile. In 1986, while employed as a systems administrator at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Stoll investigated a tenacious hacker—later identified as KGB recruit Markus Hess—who stole passwords, pirated multiple computer accounts, and attempted to breach US military security. After identifying the intrusion, Stoll set up a honeypot for Hess, eventually tracking him down and passing details to the authorities. It is recognized as one of the first examples of digital forensics. In his 1995 book Silicon Snake Oil and an accompanying article in Newsweek, Stoll called the prospect of e-commerce "baloney". Stoll also raised questions about the influence of the Internet on future society, and whether it would be beneficial. Stoll sells blown glass Klein bottles on the internet through his company Acme Klein Bottles. He stores his inventory in the crawlspace underneath his home and accesses it when needed with a homemade miniature robotic forklift. He runs the company out of his home. He was born in Buffalo, New York.Events of Interest2 June 1835 – 1835 – P. T. Barnum and his circus start their first tour of the United States - https://www.historyandheadlines.com/june-2-1835-pt-barnums-circus-starts-first-tour-us-business-may-21-2017/On June 2, 1835, American showman and huckster Phineas T. Barnum began his first tour of the US with his circus, later called “The Greatest Show on Earth,” and then “Barnum and Bailey’s Circus,” “Barnum and Bailey’s Greatest Show on Earth,” and finally “Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus.” Barnum became a showman in 1835 after his lottery business was shut down, ending a lucrative racket. He went to New York and started showing his first exhibit, an elderly, blind, black woman he touted as being 160 years old and formerly the nurse of George Washington. (The woman died the following year, age about 80.) He is widely credited with coining the adage "There's a sucker born every minute",although no proof can be found of him saying this. Barnum sometimes toured with his prize acts, including Colonel Tom Thumb, a diminutive midget Barnum claimed as the World’s Smallest Man.2 June 1910 – Charles Rolls, a co-founder of Rolls-Royce Limited, becomes the first man to make a non-stop double crossing of the English Channel by plane. - https://www.aircraftinteriorsinternational.com/features/remembering-royces-pioneering-flight.htmlAt 6.30pm on 2 June 1910, aviation pioneer Charles Stewart Rolls took off alone in his flimsy biplane from Swingate aerodrome, near Dover, to achieve the world’s first non-stop double crossing of the English Channel by aeroplane. According to a report in the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Rolls reached an altitude of 900ft and a speed of “quite forty miles an hour” as he approached the coast of France. By 7.15pm, he was flying over the small French town of Sangatte, where the present-day Channel Tunnel emerges. Leaning out of his aeroplane, he threw overboard three weighted envelopes, each containing the message: ‘Greetings to the Auto Club of France He was over Sangatte, France, at 19.15 and back in Dover at 20.00. The journey had taken 95 minutes and he circled the Castle in triumph! Over 3,000 people witnessed the event, after which Charles was carried through the town shoulder high. The Aero Clubs of both England and France presented him with special awards. London’s Madame Tussauds even began making a waxwork of him.2 June 2003 – Europe launches its first voyage to another planet, Mars. The European Space Agency's Mars Express probe launches from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Express#LaunchThe mission, called Mars Express, will map the planet, use a powerful radar to probe its surface for evidence of water, and measure water concentrations in the atmosphere. The spacecraft was launched on June 2, 2003 at 23:45 local time from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, using a Soyuz-FG/Fregat rocket. The Mars Express and Fregat booster were initially put into a 200 km Earth parking orbit, then the Fregat was fired again to put the spacecraft into a Mars transfer orbit. The Mars Express was the first Russian-launched probe to successfully make it out of low Earth orbit since the Soviet Union fell. The space vehicle, which cost $350 million was initially put into Earth orbit, and about 90 minutes later was given the final push to send it on a six-month journey to Mars — the ESA's first interplanetary mission. Mars Express is to remain in its Martian orbit for at least one Martian year, 687 Earth days.IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes -https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094RSS -http://www.thatsnotcanonproductions.com/topshelfnerdspodcast?format=rssInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/General EnquiriesEmail - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.comRate & Review us on Podchaser - https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/nerds-amalgamated-623195

It's a big ole bumper episode! In the longest Scraps and Scrolls ever we see the great mutiny of the Night's Watch, a duel with a big fire sword wielded by a man in an eye-patch, wave goodbye to Hoster Tully, watch Davos Seaworth win the social mobility championship belt, and take a bath in Harrenhal. There is A LOT to talk about. Our chapters today: - Samwell II - Arya VI - Catelyn IV - Davos IV - Jaime V All that plus a Robb vs Tywin Pair Pick, some talk on big goings on out in the fandom, Stannis being just a bit awesome, Brynden being just a bit awesome, and the Brotherhood without Banners joining together to give us one of the most beautiful yet chilling moments of the series inside the Hollow Hill. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY: A big ole session on someone we've probably spoken about more than anyone else on Scraps and Scrolls: Jeor Mormont.      Check out History of Westeros for the live streams and main analysis, plus how to get involved with the Flick community:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiYwENpLDO4gyB4dBrMYrjQ  Find more of the Isle of Faces and other projects at https://twitter.com/SerBuckley https://www.patreon.com/IsleOfFaces and   http://thegrindstone.co.uk/
