For example, keeping with the sun topic, in the sentence: The sun rises in the east. Rise can also be used to indicate that something abstract is going up, as for example in Gas prices are rising again! This sense can convey a positive meaning when we are speaking, for instance, of moods or expectations. My expectations rose when the pretty blonde girl at the bar looked at me. Raise / Raised 舉起;提起 ; 增加;提高 You should be able to easily distinguish raise from rise if you just remember raise is transitive, which means it will be followed by a direct object (a WHAT). The student raised his hand to answer the question. Raise can be a noun, too, especially talking about salaries, as in the following example: I hate Pete. He's been given yet another (pay) raise. Arise / Arose 發生;出現 ; 起身 Last but not least, we have a third verb: arise. And its meaning? While it's true that it can replace rise, meaning "to get up from sitting, lying, or kneeling", this usage is fairly outdated and only used in very formal contexts. "Arise, Lord Snow!" - Said Queen Daenerys after Jon Snow had bent his knee. When do we use arise, then? Mainly when we want to convey the meaning of something coming into being, originating or occurring. The opportunity arose for Rick to purchase a 1554 Spanish shipwreck gold bar. 分享時間: Tell a personal experience related to rise / raise / arise Make sentences from the words

With the resignation of the nation's Brexit supremo, Lord Snow, the Prime Minister is dealt a body blow like no other but has no alternative but to ‘battle on'.

On the latest episode of #talkinthrones, Dom & Pat break down Episode 3 of this tale of Ice & Fire, entitled Lord Snow. Directed by Brian Kirk in the first of three episodes he would direct and written by David Benioff & DB Weiss, the majority of this episode is dedicated to Ned finding his way through the mess of King's Landing, before being reunited with Catelyn who's come to warn him of the Lannister plot. Arya learns that despite her gender she can grow outside of the norms forced upon her; Jon Snow, also our focus character learns to be more of a team player which will of course be apart of many things that he learns on his journey of self discovery, with some help from Tyrion of course; and finally Daenerys discovers that she is pregnant with Khal Drogo's baby, which prompts Jorah Mormont to go on a very suspicious quest. Its an episode filled with growth and maturation, as well as a very strong sense that the old are on their way out and that the new are going to have a very different world to deal with. They also break down the history of the GOT-chaverse, this time talking about the history of the Night's Watch and what their impact on the story is. So many things to cover, and so much still yet to come, be sure to keep tuning into new episodes of Talkin' Thrones each and every single week, only on the #talkintvpodcast channel! #jonsnow #lordsnow #bastard #nightswatch #growth #aryastark #syrioforel #sansastark #daenerys #daenerystargaryen #khaleesi #motherofdragons #jorahmormont #iceandfire #north #beyondthewall #rangers #stewards #builders #kingslanding #benjenstark #jeormormont #kitharington #robbstark --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support
Jon is dead, as of the last pages of A Song of Ice and Fire, and though we all expect his inevitable resurrection will be gnarlier than on the show, but just how much gnarlier? Perhaps, very.

In this episode of We GoT Her! Chelsea, Lyndsey, and Katie discuss Game of Thrones season 1 episode 3: Lord Snow. Chelsea is disappointed in the lack of direwolf representation, wonders where all the Baratheons are, and is slightly disappointed that this episode is opposite of action-packed. We discuss Robert Baratheon’s unhappiness, Jon Snow’s first experiences in the Night’s Watch, Sansa’s teenage attitude, and the challenges of eating nachos while trying to read subtitles. We are left with these burning questions: Where is Catelyn’s sister? What truly happened to Jon Arryn? Will Cersei and Robert’s marriage fall apart? Will Bran ride his direwolf, Summer, around? And, where the heck is Rickon?!Join us next week for our discussion of GoT season 1 episode 4: Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things. We discuss some Stark, Baratheon, and Targaryen family history, Arya and Sansa’s different life priorities, Cersei’s use of humanity as manipulation, Daenerys’ evolving relationship with Khal Drogo, how Nymeria, Arya’s direwolf, should get revenge on Joffrey, and more!Thank you for listening! Game of Thrones HBO hit TV series: Season 1 Episodes 3 - Title: "Lord Snow" The show adapted from the novels by George RR Martin Podcast Host/Co-host: Ser Jorah Blackbar; Lezzie Stoneheart Summary of Episode: The episode begins with the Starks entering King’s Landing and Eddard is summoned to a council meeting where he is told about the King’s order for the council to stage a tournament in honor of his appointment as the King’s Hand. Immediately, Ned finds out that the Robert he knew is the King he now serves. The King is an absent King who has squandered the riches of the realm. Following the Small Council meeting, Eddard learns that Catelyn has snuck into King’s Landing and is waiting to speak to him about an urgent matter. After being taken to a brothel by Little Finger, Catelyn shows him the dagger that the assassin tried to use on Bran. Little Finger says he recognizes the blade as the one he lost to Tyrion in a bet at the tournament on Joffrey’s name day. Next, we see Ned joining his daughters for a meal but Arya is quickly sent to her room by the scepter for stabbing her food and claiming it was practice for the Prince. Ned gives a gift to Sansa where she quickly rebuts his attempt to cheer her up and leaves. Ned then goes to speak to Arya where he finds her practicing with Needle, the sword Jon gave her before his departure to the Night’s Watch. Arya claims she has no desire to become a “proper” lady like her sister Sansa. She wants to learn to sword fight. She soon begins training with Master Braavosi swordsman Syrio Forel where he instructs her on the art of Water Dancing. Cersei shares a heart to heart with the Prince where she schools him on the tactics of ruling a kingdom and destroying your enemies, as well as taking Sansa as his wife (in name only). All I can say is the Parenting skills of Westeros leaves a lot to be desired. Jon Snow begins to understand the harsh reality of serving in the Night’s Watch when he realizes that, unlike him, most of the recruits are untrained criminals who were forced into service, and everyone except Tyrion Lannister has lied to him about the Watch. He begins to build friendships at the wall and meets Sam, a fat craven from a noble house. Uncle Benjen leaves on a ranging and Jon is not allowed to follow. And Bran struggles to come to terms with being paralyzed from the waist down as Lord Rob tries to hold down Winterfell while his father is away. As for the future Dragon Queen, we see her finding her self in the midst of constant pain. In the early days of her arranged marriage, Daenerys is repeatedly raped by her husband but she overcomes by taking power in the only way she can; in her bed. Giving Drogo something he has never had nor even thought of before, she wins his heart. Daenerys herself begins to find a spot for Drogo in her heart as well. Much of her power seems to radiate from deep inside her and her connection to her three dragon eggs. Dany begins to come into her own as Khaleesi; a development that upsets her older brother Viserys and discovers that she is pregnant with Drogo’s son.

The Ringer's Mallory Rubin and Jason Concepcion discuss ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 1, Episode 3, "Lord Snow," by exploring its central theme: institutional decay (6:00). They also explain the history the Mad King and the beef between Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister (17:10) before crowning the episode’s champion (29:00).
Andrew and Manu finish off "Lord Snow" with scenes at the Wall and King's Landing, where Jon and Tyrion part ways, while Arya meets her new "dancing master," Syrio Forel. Plenty to go into with the implications of Tyrion's visit to the Wall, and much more, so let's get to it. Show Notes Go see Manu at Con of Thrones in Nashville! (6/30-7/2) iTunes link
Andrew and Manu talk about the penultimate scenes of "Lord Snow," where Daenerys learns that she is pregnant, Jorah suspiciously runs off after hearing the news, and Dany tells Drogo that it's a boy. No, there doesn't seem to be much to base it off other than Dany's word, but science is overrated. It is known. Show Notes Jorah fights Qotho, foreshadowed by Jorah and Rakharo's discussion of Westerosi vs. Dothraki fighting technique iTunes link
Andrew and Manu continue with "Lord Snow" as Bran hears ancient Westeros stories from Old Nan and grumbles to Robb about his legs. Meanwhile, Catelyn Stark and Rodrik Cassel arrive in King's Landing but both Littlefinger and Varys know that they suck at being sneaky. Drama ensues. So ready for some lore? Let's go. iTunes link
Andrew and Manu officially reach episode 3, "Lord Snow," where Ned Stark and company arrive in King's Landing, or as Ned previously referred to it, "that rat's nest they call a capital." Ned has to endure some of his least favorite parts of the rat's nest immediately, as Jaime Lannister gives him shit and he meets the Small Council, allowing the audience to be introduced to Petyr Baelish, Varys, Renly Baratheon, and Maester Pycelle. (At least Ned likes Renly.) Anyway, there are a lot of mini-character profiles in here, so away we go. iTunes link
King Stannis and the Queen's men seek the audience of Lord Snow, defender of grain and Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. In a boat slopping eastward high and low born souls face the autumn storms. Jim and A.Ron re-watch episode 103 of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “Lord Snow”. Tyrion p*ss*s off the edge of The Wall, Catelyn defies anyone to call her a “Back Alley Sally”, Ned doesn’t play around with stage choking, and Viserys gets whipped. What’s there not to like? Warning! The link I am about to reference is a massive spoiler for season six, and no one who isn’t caught up should view it. But everyone else should definitely view it, so we can move on with our lives.
