In December 2024, in Springfield, Missouri, the Show-Me Institute and Show-Me Opportunity hosted an event featuring Dr. Aaron Hedlund, Chief Economist at the Show-Me Institute, and Elijah Haahr, former Missouri Speaker of the House and host of The Elijah Haahr Show on KWTO. The discussion focused on the 2025 economic outlook for Missouri and the U.S., exploring issues such as unsustainable government spending, the growing national debt, and the Federal Reserve's role in shaping inflation, housing, and labor markets. Today's episode is a recording of that event. Produced by Show-Me Opportunity
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe (R) has proposed an approximately $53-billion state operating budget. The House Budget Committee met this morning to discuss the proposed budget. Committee vice chairman Bishop Davidson (R-Republic) joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri" this morning. He notes because there was a new governor this year, the State of the State was delivered later than normal this year (January 28). He has no issue with that and says it's to be expected. Vice chairman Davidson also addressed the budget surplus, saying the House position has been to spend down the surplus in a responsible manner that doesn't create recurring expenses. He prefers items like one-time expenses or grants. We also discussed the committee's leadership, which is dominated by southwest Missourians. The committee chairman is State Rep. Dirk Deaton (R-Noel), and Rep. Davidson is vice chair. He's from Republic and represents Greene County. The committee's ranking Democrat is Rep. Betsy Fogle (D-Springfield). While he won't discuss specifics about projects, Vice chairman Davidson tells listeners that he's met with ranking Democrat Fogle and that they hope to work together when they can, particularly on issues involving southwest Missouri. We also discussed the popular Springfield-Branson National Airport, which is in Davidson's House district. Our Zimmer sister station KWTO in Springfield reports 2024 was a banner year for the airport, with a total of about 1.4-million passengers. That's up ten percent from last year. Vice chairman Davidson is ecstatic about it:

It's challenge time again! We, again, challenged Ned Reynolds and Art Hains, to a Play by Play/Color Analyst escapade. Our first challenge was to have them perform play by play and color analyst work on a Hibachi chef at Nakato Japanese Steakhouse. They passed that endeavor. We then challenged them to “Play by Play” charades with a panel of judges (Don Louzader, Jeff Burnett, and Misty Ramsey). Again, they passed with flying colors. Our latest challenge for these two Hall of Famers, consisted of broadcasting the 1st Annual ACP Championship Event of miniature golf! My thanks to our host course, Fun Acre in Springfield, Missouri! Our finalists were Don Louzader (Two-time Open Champion at Fun Acre, ACP's baseball correspondent), C.J. Ball (Drury Women's Golf Coach), and Jeff Burnett (our Kansas City Chiefs Superfan). It was a tight race and our broadcasters filled our listeners with action-packed intensity as we moved from hole to hole. In the end, however, the bronze medal was awarded to Coach C.J. Ball, the Silver to Jeff Burnett, and the Gold….no surprise…to course champion Don Louzader! My thanks to all that made this challenge an enjoyable event. If you missed it, listen at acoachsperspective.com or on Apple iTunes Podcast. Next week we will host Josh Scott and Marty Marsh, Athletic Directors for Springfield Public Schools about some well-deserved accolades for their department and what is coming up with SPS Athletics. Tonight, we graciously hosted the Men's Basketball Coach at Missouri State University (MSU), Dana Ford along with the Springfield Police Department's Chief Paul Williams. This program will have players from the MSU Basketball team, members of the Springfield Police Department and kids from our community, on their home courts, coming together on Saturday mornings to play pick up and talk with each other in hopes of educating and forming positive relationships. Chief Williams and Coach Ford should be commended for their efforts on taking action with their platforms and being positively engaged in our community. My thanks for their compassion, caring and efforts with this much needed intervention in our society. I feel it will have a tremendous impact and will hopefully ripple through the city.
