Send us a textIn this episode we continue our discussion of the terrifying story of Latoya Ammons and the Demon House.
In January 2014, a strange article appeared in the Indianapolis Star about Latoya Ammons, an Indiana single mother of three who claimed that for more than a year, she and her children were besieged by demons in their rented home. Ammons claimed, among other things, that the house was constantly infested with black flies, the children were levitated from their beds, and her nine-year-son became possessed and walked up a wall backwards. And that was only the beginning; by the end of just one year in the house, the Ammons family claim they were terrorized by all manner of supernatural assaults, from ghostly apparitions to demonic entities. Latoya Ammons' story might well have gone unnoticed, had it not been for the surprising number of witnesses to the paranormal events, from family and friends to police officers and social workers. Still, Latoya was not without her critics or skeptics—some accused her of fabricating the story to get out of her lease, while others assumed she was simply delusional. Regardless of the explanation for the cause of the events, there's no denying that Latoya Ammons story is one of the most terrifying paranormal experiences heard in decades.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesBiddle, Kenny. 2018. Enjoy this interview, which I conducted years ago, about this bone-chilling true story that has been brought to life as a new Netflix movie called The Deliverance. In an exclusive interview, Father Michael Maginot delves into the genuinely terrifying tale of demonic possession involving a mother and her children.Witnesses said the children walked up a wall right in front of hospital staff, which prompted the call to Father Maginot. The case occurred in Illinois and made worldwide headlines. In Catholicism, exorcisms are performed in the name of Jesus Christ. A similar practice is deliverance ministry. The distinction between deliverance ministry and exorcism is that exorcism is conducted by priests given special permission from the Catholic church. In contrast, deliverance ministry is a prayer for people who are distressed and wish to heal emotional wounds, including those purportedly caused by evil spirits.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

Tonight, my special guest is Father Michael Maginot, who sits down to discuss the genuinely frightening demonic possession of a mother and her children. Witnesses said the children walked up a wall right in front of hospital staff, which prompted the call to Father Maginot. The case occurred in Illinois and made worldwide headlines. In Catholicism, exorcisms are performed in the name of Jesus Christ.[9] A similar practice is deliverance ministry. The distinction between deliverance ministry and exorcism is that exorcism is conducted by priests given special permission from the Catholic church. In contrast, deliverance ministry is a prayer for people who are distressed and wish to heal emotional wounds, including those purportedly caused by evil spirits.[10] The statue of Saint Philip of Agirawith the Gospel in his left hand, the symbol of the exorcists, in the May celebrations in his honor at Limina, Sicily. The Catholic rite for a formal exorcism, called a "Major Exorcism," is given in Section 11 of the Rituale Romanum.[11][12] The Ritual lists guidelines for conducting an exorcism and determining when a formal exorcism is required.[13] Priests are instructed to carefully determine that the nature of the condition is not a psychological or physical illness before proceeding.[9] In Catholic practice, the person performing the exorcism, known as an exorcist, is an ordained priest. The exorcist recites prayers according to the rite's rubrics and may use religious materials such as icons, sacramentals, and relics. The exorcist invokes God—specifically, the Name of Jesus Christ—and members of the Church Triumphant and the Archangel Michael to intervene with the exorcism. According to Catholic understanding, several weekly exorcisms over many years are sometimes required to expel a deeply entrenched demon.[13][14] Saint Michael's Prayer against Satan and the Rebellious Angels, attributed to Pope Leo XIII, is considered the most potent prayer of the Catholic Church against cases of diabolic possession.[15] The Holy Rosary also has an exorcistic and intercessory power.[citation needed] Holy water is a common Aid for exorcisms. Its use belongs to the Prayer to St. Michael. It's super easy to access our archives!
Hadley and Alyssa investigate the Ammons House, a modest, single-story home in Gary, Indiana where, in the spring of 2011, Latoya Ammons and her three young children were reportedly possessed by demons. After unpacking the history of the region, the hosts dig into the Ammons family's case, from the first signs of paranormal activity to the extreme behavior that eventually led Latoya to flee the home and seek medical attention for her children. They also review reports made by healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, and government workers whose eyewitness accounts point to two chilling possibilities: either the Ammons family suffered a psychological phenomenon, or the house really was infested by something evil and otherworldly. Hadley and Alyssa also discuss what happened to the house after Ghost Adventures host Zak Bagans bought it in 2014. Later, they're joined by Karl Rosengren, a professor in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences and Psychology departments at the University of Rochester, to discuss how belief in the paranormal and magic affect early childhood development, the psychology behind superstition, and more. The Ammons family, including mother Latoya Ammons, her three children (two boys aged 7 and 9 and a girl, age 12– their names have never been released), and Latoya's mother (Rosa Campbell) moved into a rental home located at 3860 Carolina Street in Gary, Indiana in November 2011. It seemed ideal for the family…but it wasn't long after the Ammons moved in that bizarre things began happening. You see, this week's case is one of a woman and her family who have publicly proclaimed that their home (if not themselves as well) was possessed by a demonic entity– or, in this case, upwards of 200 demons.
In 2011, a family moved into a house in Gary, Indiana. Soon after, strange things started happening around the house, and the children began behaving violently and speaking in demonic voices. One child levitated over her bed, and another walked up a wall backwards while being examined by a psychologist at a hospital. The terrifying case culminated in a series of exorcisms approved by the Catholic church. To this day, it remains one of the most thoroughly documented cases of demonic possession in modern history. Many involved thought that the mother was using the idea of demons as a way to keep her children in line but others including several priests, police officers and family service case workers fully believed that the family was under demonic attack. It's October once again, and that means Halloween is fast approaching! The boys' first offering of the month is one appropriate to the season: the Ammons Possessions. While not as famous as the "Exorcist" case, this is the tale of yet another demonic possession within the United States -- taking place within the 21st Century. This episode does cause one to raise the question: why does Jim always pick stories in which people or places have hard to pronounce names? An Exorcist Tells His StoryIn his book of 1990, 'An Exorcist Tells His Story,' Father Gabriele Amorth, who was the chief exorcist of Rome, identified four, uniquely defined stages of demonic possession - infestation, oppression, obsession and lastly, possession. First comes infestation, where a demonic entity will introduce itself to its intended victim, often under the guise of a deceased loved one, to offer comfort during a time of mourning, or as a friend to a lonely child experiencing a tumultuous time. The infestation stage can continue for several years until any such activity has become normalised, allowing the evil presence to fully infiltrate the life of their proposed prey and begin the manipulation of mind, body and soul.
Hi all you beautiful people! Tri-hosting is so fun! Miss, Kevin, and (new permanent host) Edie are so jazzed about this episode! First for the True Crime Story, Kevin takes us to Texarkana, TX/AR where the double-city was home to a rash of unsolved serial murders over a 10-week period in 1946. No suspects were ever charged. Very little was ever concluded. Such a sad, crazy story! Then for this week's Spoopy Story, Miss has us in Gary, Indiana in 2011. The house (and children?) of Latoya Ammons are possessed by not 1, not 2, but....200 demons? Miss gives us the details about how things were handled by the city and state officials and the archdiocese. (Spoiler alert...not good!) We're so excited to be back to our regularly scheduled programming with snazzy new branding! Woot woot! Source notes: www.creepyinqueeriespod.com. Instagram: @CreepyInQueeriesPod.
