Dr. Rick Schroeder is a retired orthopedic surgeon and Licensed Battlefield Guide who you know from many of our medical episodes, most often appearing alongside of his pal and fellow LBG Fran Feyock. Rick came in with his son who is also a doctor to talk about his life. This was a fun one to record.
Today we're talking about a really important concept that I've mentioned a time or two (okay, many times) in the LBG community, but I feel like is something that really needs to be acknowledged here, too. That, my friend, is the idea of pouring from an empty cup. Can you relate or empathize with this? Your gain from this episode today is to not only understand the concept of what “pouring from an empty cup” really means but, moreover, some tips on how to cope with this when it feels like you're giving constantly and not feeling fulfilled in return. I've been looking forward to talking about this for a long time because I think it nicely pairs with the episode on anticipatory grief—which is episode 13, by the way! This idea of pouring from an empty cup is one I know well from personal experience and working with fellow grievers, as I'm sure you have if you've discovered this podcast, too. I have no doubt you're going to find so much value in this episode, including 11 ways to cope with this on a day-to-day basis! I am so excited to welcome this guest today you guys! Kera Sanchez is a mama of two and creator of Legacy Letters—a keepsake journal to leave behind love, advice and support for future generations. And, she's also a daughter sharing her grief journey with the world much like myself. We found each other thanks to the Instagram gods and became fast friends and are really kindred spirits in so many ways—especially because of our appreciation for some dark humor to get through and cope with our grief. She's honestly SO funny and easy to talk to, and her story is truly one you won't want to miss. There were things that came up in this episode that I didn't even know about her story, and are so heartbreaking. But, also so relatable for so many of us. You won't want to miss hearing her absolutely beautiful mindset and perspective, and how she handles the adversity she's seen. She is truly a cherished friend in this grief space, and I have no doubt her journal and her content will help you through your difficult times, too. With this being wedding season, I wanted to put this episode out into the world in a hopefully timely way because I know there are so many people in this community that are perhaps newly engaged, going through the wedding process, or are perhaps very soon about to get married. I want to first start by acknowledging that weddings can be stressful enough, regardless if someone meaningful to you isn't there to witness your special day–whether they've passed away or couldn't make it, you had a falling out, whatever it is. I feel like I'm pretty well qualified to talk about this topic, particularly because last year I went through two weddings (we had two ceremonies) without my mom and dad. As a bride who had a lot on her plate during the months of planning, on top of going through all of this without them… this process wasn't easy for a variety of reasons, really–parent-related and not. Your gain from this episode today is to learn how to cope with a loss during a wedding, and find ways to make sure you find your happiness and peace on your big day. Today, we're talking all about triggers. Grief-related or not, they can be an unpleasant and unwelcome guest in our brains and daily life. From being reminded of happier times to things our loved ones enjoyed to painful memories and more, they can be highly difficult to cope with. But there's hope, my friend! That's what this episode is all about. I can not WAIT to get into this topic with you. It sounds funny to say it's one of my favorite things to talk about in the grief space, but... it honestly is. More importantly, it's a really important topic to cover, too, because it's one of the most common things that affect our healing journey. Triggers can happen as we're in the process of losing someone or something, or have already experienced the loss and we're now sitting here trying to grapple with it. Your gain from this episode today will be to join me in talking about both common and uncommon triggers, and acknowledge and understand your triggers so they affect your day-to-day life as little as possible. With a little understanding and ways work on these (which I give you in this episode!), I have no doubt you'll be on your way to being a happier and mentally healthier human. If you've been following the podcast for a little while now, you might have heard me mention Welkin Memorials a time or two. I'm thrilled to share that Welkin's founder, Kate Anderson is joining us to talk about her story, grief journey, and Welkin Memorials urns, of course! She gives a beautiful perspective on finding gains from your losses, and I love the story of how she came to create truly the most aesthetically pleasing urns you will ever see in your life. Kate has some really amazing insights on grief and loss and how to cope with this, especially after going through her own journey of losing her dad two weeks before she turned 22. To say she is the epitome of turning losses into gains is an understatement! I just had to have her on the podcast for that and so many other reasons, and I'm so grateful that she agreed to chat with us. Anticipatory grief is a type that I feel like people don't—and really almost can't—understand until and unless they go through it. It's a type of grief that stays with us for a REALLY long time, as the anticipatory grief is happening but also even after the loss actually happens. It's a grief I know very well, and it's a kind that many, many people have and will experience—particularly if there's a prolonged illness or watching a decline in some way. But it often isn't talked about or acknowledged nearly enough in terms of how difficult it is. How profound and deep the effects of it can be. Sometimes we don't even realize we're going through it! Your gain today is to gain a better understanding of what anticipatory grief is, the effects it can have on a griever, and how to cope with it. Today is a very raw and honest solo episode as a reflection of three years without my dad, Greg Jordan. On this exact day, July 13th, three years ago, my dad succumbed to his prostate cancer. Your gain today is to get to know my dad a little better, but also to just have a very real conversation about the pain around losing a father or father figure. I'm talking about how I'm feeling, what I'm thinking, the hardest parts about being three years out from his death, and what I've learned since he died. Whether or not you've lost a father specifically, I have no doubt some of the things I'll say or get into in this episode will be really relatable for you. I think these milestones are important to acknowledge and reflect back on. If this can help anyone else out there today, or help you feel less alone, that's my goal! This week's episode traces the evolution of one of the most beloved songs of the 60s: "Good Lovin'"! (A tune that should have an exclamation mark in the title). Lemme B. Good was the first to pitch woo in spring of 1965 (0:48). Exuberant vocals, crashing piano chords, horny horns & galloping drums will make your heart pitter patter. Rudy Clark wrote the original version's lyrics, but he decided he needed a Cyrano to help him express his true feelings, so he turned to Artie Resnick to overhaul the words. This leads us to the version by The Olympics, which followed hot on the heels of LBG's original (28:11). This one has a more pronounced Latin feel to it, harking back to the garage rock cha-cha's we used to moon over! But what other song does that horn section at 30:00 remind us of? The third's the charm, because The Young Rascals took the song all the way to #1 in 1966 (1:05:14) . Blue-eyed soul! Duet vocals!! Organ solo!!! False ending!!!! All this and a personality profile of the band, courtesy of Flip's Groovy Guide. After all this excitement, we cool it down a bit with our last date: Mary Wells ( 1:48:11 ). Another snappy arrangement by Sonny Sanders, just like her "Satisfaction," which we discussed in Episode 64. Eat your hearts out, Pastronauts!!

James Hessler needs no introduction. He's a well-known LBG, accomplished author, co-host of the Battle of Gettysburg Podcast, Little Bighorn nut and friend of Addressing Gettysburg. But do you know who the man behind the reputation is? Well, after this episode, you will!
This episode is being released on my sister's birthday. Like me, she turned 39 again this year. While it's my 6th time, it her 4th. So, happy birthday, Karen! Had a great conversation with LBG and author Jeffrey Harding about his new book "Gettysburg's Lost Love Story: The Ill-Fated Romance of General John Reynolds and Kate Hewitt." We all know the tiniest fraction of the story about Major General John Reynolds and his secret love, Kate Hewitt. But did you know the REST of the story? No you didn't, because no one had unearthed until Jeffrey set out to write this book. BOOK DESCRIPTION: Union general John Reynolds was one of the most beloved and respected military leaders of the Civil War, yet beyond the battlefield, the captivating true story of his secret romance with Catherine "Kate" Mary Hewitt remains etched into his legacy. Clandestinely engaged before John marched off to war, the couple's love remained a secret. Kate made a poignant "last promise," a commitment to enter into a religious life if her beloved were to be killed. Tragically, Reynolds lost his life leading troops into action during the opening phases of the Battle of Gettysburg. Within days Kate was embraced by the Reynolds family and soon began to honor her promise of a religious life. Yet a few years later she seemed to disappear. Author Jeffrey J. Harding unveils new findings on Kate's life before and after John's death as he recounts Gettysburg's saga of star-crossed love. James van den Bergh, Chief Executive Officer of Trufin #TRU explains the significance of Satago's commercial agreement with Lloyds Bank and talks about progress within other parts of the business. Highlights TruFin is pleased to announce that following the conclusion of the commercial pilot first announced on 11 December 2020, and a competitive tender process, Lloyds Bank has confirmed its intention to enter into a commercial agreement to license Satago's software platform for its Single Invoice Finance and whole of book Invoice Factoring customers. Satago and Lloyds Bank have signed a letter of intent and are working towards finalising a commercial agreement in the coming months. Satago's platform will introduce a new digitised proposition designed to help the Bank further support UK businesses. Satago expects to be paid a recurring fee for each customer of the Bank which utilises Satago's platform, as well as one-off implementation fees, with the final terms of this landmark agreement subject to commercial negotiation. TruFin is also pleased to announce that, ahead of signing the commercial agreement, Lloyds Banking Group has today completed an investment of £5 million of new equity capital in Satago, at a pre-money valuation of £20 million. All parties believe that the commercial agreement will be transformational for Satago and has the potential to deliver significant equity value uplift for Satago. TruFin has agreed to vary the terms of an existing £3 million loan to Satago so that it is convertible into equity capital in Satago at the same valuation as the LBG investment or, if a further funding round takes place, the valuation implied by the funding round. Assuming conversion based on the £20 million valuation (and assuming LBG does not subscribe for its pro rata entitlement to shares), TruFin would hold approximately 68% of Satago (on a fully diluted basis). In addition, the Company is delighted to announce Ben Stephenson will be appointed to the Board of Satago. Ben is Managing Director and Head of Specialist Client Solutions at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking and is responsible for the teams who provide SMEs with Invoice Finance, Trade, Payments, Asset Finance and Merchant Services solutions. He sits on the Executive Committee of the LBG's SME and Mid Corporates Business and is a member of the UK Finance IF&ABL Product Board. As Satago rolls out its best-in-class platform to a growing pipeline of leading finance providers, the Board believes there are multiple value accretive developments to follow.

WARNING: If you can't handle frank discussion of life, medicine, anatomy, human interactions and excrement, you might want to skip this episode. For years members of our audience who are in the medical field have been asking to do an episode about Civil War Medicine. We finally had the stars align and we welcome LBGs Rick Schroeder and Fran Feyock to the show for their first appearance. Both worked in the medical field as a surgeon and a nurse and have dedicated a lot of their guiding to programs about how the wounded were treated. We wanted to get into the nitty-gritty, as much as possible, to talk about, not only the treatments, but also how different diseases and traumas affect the body. As always, our Patrons provided us with solid questions to ask. Support the Show by: Booking a tour with an LBG from the show! Jennifer Bilek returns with laser focus on what's behind gender identity and ‘trans rights,' namely corporatism's obsession with colonizing human sex for profit. In this episode we dive into the abyss of industry manipulation and psychological warfare, how high-tech totalitarianism recruits children as ideological soldiers, and what is the verifiable ad campaign of eugenics. We explore the web of Big Fertility, Big Tech censorship, the multilateral targeting of youth, and woman erasure - as well as walk down memory lane when intimate, values-based community prevailed before technology replaced interpersonal connection. Jennifer is an activist who writes at the intersection of humanity, technology and runaway capitalism. She names names of the rich, white, technophilic elites responsible for the whirlwind of the gender industry and identity medicine. Her focus encompasses the influence of the medical industrial complex on LBG corporatization and the continued efforts of trans ideology to break the genetic boundary between men and women. Charlie Fennell dropped by the studio to talk about one of the lesser-talked-about brigades of the Army of the Potomac (in spite of their high casualty rate)- Biddle's Brigade. Technically Rowley's Brigade, Biddle's Brigade arrived on the First Corps line late in the morning on July 1, 1863. It was during that fight that they would receive the majority of their 66% loss. The fighting was intense for this brigade. So why don't most people hear a lot about it? "Because they were placed in line next to the Iron Brigade, as Charlie jokes in this episode. Perhaps there's some truth to that. During the Patron-submitted-questions part of the show, two questions spark a debate about the "Harvest of Death" photos. This episode kicks off with Tamara trying to blame a baby for being late. Turns out is was less about it being hard saying good bye to a very cute nephew and more about Tamara forgetting things and having to drive further. It was a rough start to the day with Tamara breaking her glasses and then discovering that her car had been egged. Although there was the possibility of a who done it, Tamara just took her car to get the second car wash in three days. Talking about watching spooky movies now that it is getting to be Halloween season Rheannon refuses to watch scary movies that take place in the woods. Her reasoning being that they go out there to ski and fish. Tamara might have been reading a murder mystery on the banks of the river in Montana while Rheannon fished and it definitely gave a different vibe. Much like an app idea that Tamara has this episode goes downhill fast.
LBG Rob Abbott makes his debut on the show to talk about Confederate Artillery Leadership at Gettysburg. He is also giving a tour on the subject this month on September 26, 2021. Here's the description: " “Confederate Artillery Leadership at Gettysburg” featuring LBG Rob Abbott The only Confederate artillery personality most people know is Edward Porter Alexander, “ How old are you son?” Confederate artillery seems to be the noisy window dressing for the battle. Who are these men? Exactly what are they doing? Join LBG Rob Abbott as we explore the senior Confederate Artillery leadership, the Army and Corps Chiefs of Artillery, and the battalion commanders. We will also discuss artillery tactics, challenges, and logistics. Finally, we will point out some unique types of cannon and showcase a few individual batteries. Meeting Place: Oak Hill by the Carter's Battalion tablet. Second stop will be by the Virginia State Monument on West Confederate Avenue and the third and final stop will be the “Longstreet” War Department Tower on West Confederate Avenue. Tracy Baer stops by to talk about a fascinating, yet, rarely discussed aspect of the Gettysburg Campaign: the Army of Northern Virginia's wagon train during the retreat. You asked. You begged. We waited for the right time and that time is nigh. Garry Adelman joins us for the first of what we hope is many times to discuss Little Round Top. We try to put LRT in its true importance in the Battle of Gettysburg. Did the Union Army and perhaps the Union itself hinge on one little regiment of barely-tested Mainers? Did the fighting for Little Round Top end when Joshua Chamberlain and the 20th Maine finished mopping the floor with the Alabama boys? What was behind Little and Bog Round Tops that might have made it an even worse day for Hood's Division had he been allowed to "go around to the riiiight"? Tune in and find out. Activist Jennifer Bilek writes at the intersection of humanity, technology and runaway capitalism. She names the rich, white, technophilic elites responsible for the whirlwind of the gender industry and identity medicine. Her focus encompasses the influence of the medical industrial complex on LBG corporatization and the continued efforts of trans ideology to deny the genetic boundary between men and women. In articulating the complex labyrinth of power - including collusion between global banks and NGOs, Jennifer details the corporatist cult which grooms the populace for profit and control by driving the colonization of female biology and the AI takeover of human reproduction. The mammoth infrastructure of transhumanism and autogynephilia drives the dis-embodiment and dis-membering human beings. She speaks to the insanity of celebrating castration, the death spiral we are in, and the communal solidarity on the other side of speaking the truth.
