"Wuthering Heights" is a 2026 romantic period drama film produced, written, and directed by Emerald Fennell. Loosely based on the 1847 novel by Emily Brontë, the film is a reinterpretation intended by Fennell to "recreate the feeling of a teenage girl reading this book for the first time." Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi respectively star as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, alongside Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell in supporting roles. The film premiered earlier this year and was a box-office success, grossing $242 million worldwide. Production Designer Susie Davies & Set Decorator Charlotte Dirickx were kind enough to spend some time talking with Ema Sasic, and I spoke with Cinematographer Linus Sandgren about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now available to stream at home on HBO Max and will be available to own on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray. Thank you, and enjoy! In Episode 144 of Let's Talk Learning Disabilities, Laurie introduces Cara Fennell, a new member of the Diagnostic Learning Services team who recently transitioned from nearly a decade as a special education teacher and educational diagnostician in Texas public schools to the private sector. Cara shares her background in early childhood special education and walks through what the school-based evaluation process looks like -- from obtaining parent consent to using a pattern of strengths and weaknesses to determine eligibility -- while reflecting on the differences between public school testing and private practice, particularly the freedom to spend more time with families and assess areas like ADHD more thoroughly.Resources:Contact info for the podcast: letstalklearningdisabilities@gmail.comE-Diagnostic Learning Website: https://ediagnosticlearning.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/eDiaglearning/Twitter: @diaglearningLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/diagnostic-learning-services/Instagram: @diaglearning

If there's one film that set tongues (literally) wagging this year, it's the latest adaptation of Emily Brontë's masterpiece of gothic fiction, WUTHERING HEIGHTS.  Directed by one of cinema's most de rigueur darlings, Emerald Fennell, WUTHERING HEIGHTS showcases Fennell's trademark maximalism, bold subversiveness, and canny eye for visual magic tricks. The formula should have been a perfect match of fiction and filmmaker. So why did it leave us feeling kind of… meh?  SITC all-star guest star Cecilia Conti and special guest Josh Reinhold join Torie to hash out their feelings about Fennell's new take on Brontë's classic. And honestly, the film reads more like a smut fanfiction or two-hour music video than a true-to-text take on a venerable and deeply complex work of literature.  Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as doomed lovers Cathy and Heathcliff, Fennell's sex-ed up rendition is more style than substance. All the same, the candy-coated visuals are glorious, the metaphors are ripe, and the acting ain't half bad. The sex itself is decidedly PG-13, but it was enough to confirm that Jacob Elordi is very much most likely a damn good kisser.

Starting a CPA firm can be both exciting and daunting, with financial, operational, and personal risks along the way. In this Journal of Accountancy podcast episode, Michael Meihaus, CPA, founder of Meihaus CPA, shares what he learned after launching his practice. Alvin Fennell, vice president and senior risk adviser at Aon, adds a risk-management perspective on what new firm owners must plan for from day one.  Together, they discuss practical steps, common blind spots, and how CPAs can balance growth with protection. They reference an e-book created jointly by Aon and the AICPA. The e-book's first chapter is unlocked, and readers can access subsequent chapters by supplying their email address. What you'll learn from this episode: The market opportunity that was one factor in a CPA deciding to launch a firm. What Meihaus meant when he said "your strengths and weaknesses are enhanced" as a firm owner. Some of the many business questions new firm owners should answer early. Why starting a firm can, according to Fennell, put CPAs in "a vulnerable spot." Risk-management considerations, including billing practices, engagement letters, and insurance coverage.

Two months after it arrived (and everyone seemed to have an opinion on it), does anyone even care about Emerald Fennell's “WUTHERING HEIGHTS” anymore? We do, I guess. We both agree this movie would be more interesting if it was far better or far worse, because middling movies just aren't very fun! We get into the film's characterization and aesthetics, Emily Brontë's novel, and how the movie functions, according to Fennell herself, as an act of teenage “wish fulfillment.”    Follow us on Instagram: @girlhoodmoviedatabase Secondary texts referenced: Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë The Annotated Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, edited by Janet Gezari Wuthering Heights (2011) dir. Those to whom Emily Brontë's only novel, Wuthering Heights, is important, have approached Emerald Fennell's adaptation warily. It's a book that a lot of women have grown up on, and the trailers raised questions. Would it be too steamy? Too modernised? Would it miss the point? We, however, residing outside that demographic and never having read the novel, can't meaningfully consider the issue of adaptation, and are more interested in the film taken on its own terms. Is it good? The answer is yes. Fennell's direction is visually expressive and inventive, and tonally confident. We disagree on aspects of Cathy and Heathcliff's dynamic, José arguing that theirs is as deep as a romance gets despite - or perhaps because of - how toxic they are for one another; Mike questioning Cathy's commitment and suggesting that the film doesn't sell the idea that social status and financial obligation requires her to forgo Heathcliff. We also consider the blind casting, sexual dynamics and depiction of BDSM (or BDSM-like) activities, and the female gaze that's built in to everything - this is a film about a woman, based on a novel by a woman, screenwritten, directed and produced by women, and aimed at a female audience. Recorded on 22nd February 2026.

Love Stinks! Month continues its march across the moors this week on We Drink & We Watch Things as we confront the year's most scandalous and polarizing adaptation: Emerald Fennell's 2026 reimagining of Wuthering Heights. This isn't your grandmother's Brontë; it's a hyper-stylized, anachronistic, and deeply provocative "bodice-ripper" that trades Victorian restraint for BDSM, heavy-metal corsetry, and a Charli XCX soundtrack. Pour yourself something dark and intoxicating - perhaps our cocktail take on Yearning - and join us as we discuss why this film has everyone from literary scholars to Barbie fans talking. This week, we analyze the relationship between Margot Robbie's fashion-doll Cathy and Jacob Elordi's long-haired, seething Heathcliff. We examine Fennell's decision to strip away the novel's second generation to focus entirely on the toxic, cyclical lust of its leads, and we talk through the film's shocking, "Saltburn-esque" flourishes - like the horse-bridle-and-shackle games that redefine Heathcliff's legendary cruelty. We also consider the controversy surrounding the casting and the film's unapologetic rejection of historical accuracy in favor of creating a "sensory experience" that feels like a teenage girl's fever dream of the 1840s.If you're a Brontë purist ready to clutch your pearls, a fan of Fennell's brand of "campy depravity," or just want to hear us debate whether a story about two people "driving each other mad" is a romance or a red flag, this is the episode you've been waiting for. We're blending our critique of its provocative choices with our biggest disagreement in recent memory, making this a truly wild second chapter in our month of Not-So-Love-Love-Stories. Emerald Fennell's new Wuthering Heights is full of stylistic provocations — skin walls, bed eggs, and light BDSM among them — but whether they are in service of, or distractions from, a bigger idea about the source material is up for debate this week. The divided reactions to Fennell's contemporized take on an oft-adapted classic are reminiscent of the love-it-or-hate it response that greeted Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet back in 1996, which we bring back in for Connections to examine the core romantic notions driving these two tales of doomed (and frequently soaking wet) love and/or lust. And in Your Next Picture Show we continue the Wuthering Heights adaptation discussion with a couple of recommendations that illustrate some of the different tonal directions this material can take. PANEL Cecilie Lind, forfatter. Anbefaling: Se filmen ‘Ordet’ fra 1955. James Cameron-Wilson says that #1 Wuthering Heights, written and directed by Saltburn's Emerald Fennell, is not a close adaptation of the novel and has attracted criticism for casting Jacob Elordi alongside Margot Robbie. However, it is thoroughly entertaining, has a great score and production design and is also quite funny. He found it a cinematic delight and feels Fennell is a national treasure. #3 Crime 101 with Chris Hemsworth and a great cast is a rare LA movie actually filmed there. James enjoyed it. Not only is it a good crime thriller, but the characters are very human. On Blu-Ray for the first time is the Oscar-nominated 1974 East German film Jacob the Liar. A darkly comic movie set in a Jewish ghetto in 1944, it is in similar vein to the much later Life Is Beautiful. The disc comes with lots of great extras. Learn more about your ad choices. Lisa Fennell shares her non-linear career path—from studying police science at a technical college, to restaurant work and administrative roles, to becoming a business analyst and eventually a sales and marketing leader in utility tech. Along the way, she opens up about confidence, mentorship, being “the only woman at the table,” and what it's like building a career without a traditional four-year degree. What you'll hear in this episodeWhat Lisa does todayLisa explains Ping Things and the need for high-resolution, high-density grid data that can actually make it into the hands of data scientists—so utilities can train machine learning algorithms, understand what's happening on the grid, and decide what to do next.“Reflex vs reason”A standout analogy the grid needs both immediate “reflex” at the edge and deeper “reason” centrally. Lisa compares it to touching a hot stove—your reflex pulls your hand back, but your brain learns “don't do that again.” Ping Things supports the “learning” layer.A career journey that didn't follow the typical scriptLisa walks through her path technical college → a mentor encouraging her to rethink shift-work policing → customer service/restaurant leadership → an office role → recognized technical aptitude → business analyst → writing software requirements/specs → utility industry tech roles → sales leadership.Working in a technical field without a four-year degreeLisa talks candidly about how long it took to admit she didn't have a college degree—and how mentorship, opportunity, and her own tenacity shaped her success.Sales in technical spacesLisa describes the gift of translating “engineer language” into “normal language,” the importance of listening more than speaking, and how relationship-building is often the real differentiator.Married to an engineer in the same industryShe and her husband Kevin have traveled together for industry events and customer dinners, and Lisa shares how she brings levity and connection—often with fun icebreakers that instantly melt the room.Proud momentA sweet moment Lisa's dad tells Alexa about her career story (including the no-four-year-degree part), and Lisa shares how meaningful it is to feel that pride from a parent, no matter your age.Not Expert” listener questionKathy, Linda, and Lisa share not-expert perspectives on timing, preparation, and how workplace culture has evolved (and still has a long way to go).Support the show

With its bold stylization, pop soundtrack, and provocative sensibility, Emerald Fennell's new Wuthering Heights appeals to a contemporary audience so openly it can't help but call to mind Baz Luhrmann's 1996 adaptation of another literary classic about doomed lovers, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. Fennell citing it as a reference point for her film prompted us to revisit what made Lurhmann's approach so enticing and/or annoying at the time, and consider how its maximalist mix of reverence and irreverence toward the source material — not to mention an ascendant Leonardo DiCaprio in peak heartthrob mode — has turned it into a generation's formative Romeo and Juliet.  Please share your thoughts about William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Wuthering Heights, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. The adaptation of Emily Brontë's groundbreaking 1847 Gothic novel has already caused quite the stir, but is this an adaptation that they cannot live without or one that drives them mad? The team discusses Fennell's vision, their favorite performances, the changes made from book to screen, the movie's eroticism, and more. Then, the gang previews the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) taking place next Saturday, February 22. Will it be one award after another for our nomination leader, One Battle After Another? How will the Brits respond to Chloé Zhao's spin on Shakespeare? This week on the pod, we're heading back to the Island to unpack Lost Season 4, Episode 4: “Eggtown.” It's a Kate-centric hour that blends domestic fantasy with legal thriller energy, as the flash-forwards finally start filling in the gaps of the Oceanic Six storyline. We break down what “Eggtown” reveals about Kate's need to run—even when she's trying to stay—why her off-Island life feels like a gilded cage, and how the episode uses motherhood as both redemption and self-deception. On the Island, alliances shift as Locke's camp fractures, Hurley's loyalty is tested, and Ben continues to manipulate literally everyone in the room. We dig into the moral chess match between Ben and Locke, the thematic meaning behind Kate's trial, and how this episode quietly sets the emotional stakes for the rest of Season 4.Then we shift gears into this weekend's new theatrical releases:First up, Gore Verbinski's Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, starring Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, and Juno Temple. We talk about Verbinski returning to large-scale genre filmmaking with a chaotic, high-concept sci-fi premise, Rockwell doing what Rockwell does best—existential panic with charm—and whether the film balances spectacle with heart or leans too far into cosmic weirdness.Next, Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights, led by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. We get into Fennell's gothic sensibilities, the challenge of reinterpreting such a brooding literary classic for modern audiences, and whether this version amplifies the romance, the toxicity, or both. Is it a lush prestige drama, a fever dream, or something more divisive? Finally, we break down Bart Layton's Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan. A slick crime thriller with serious star power, this one promises cat-and-mouse tension and morally gray characters. We discuss whether Layton's documentary instincts sharpen the realism, how the ensemble chemistry plays out, and if the film delivers on its pulpy premise.Time travel, tragic romance, high-stakes heists—it's a packed episode. On Sunday afternoon—just hours before the Super Bowl and Bad Bunny's electrifying performance— Vogue's book club members gathered at the SVA Theatre in Chelsea for a special preview of Wuthering Heights. The screening was followed by an insightful conversation for The Run-Through between director Emerald Fennell and Chloe, in which they compared Emily Brontë's gothic novel with Fennell's film adaptation.Drawing on literary scholarship and her own childhood memories of the book, Fennell explained why she chose to lean into its sadomasochistic undercurrents. “There's a quote from Daphne du Maurier in which she describes Wuthering Heights as a kind of sexless book. But I've never experienced it that way. That's part of the novel's magic—everyone who reads it takes away something slightly different. For me, the sexual power dynamics are extremely explicit.”Fennell's version makes several notable departures from the classic text. Isabella Linton emerges as a more dynamic character (Fennell joked that she's “more of an Isabella than a Cathy”), and the adaptation omits both Nelly's first-person narration and the novel's second half (William Wyler did it first!). Perhaps the most memorable addition, however, is the inclusion of crushed eggs beneath bed sheets – an “inside joke” between lovers Heathcliff and Cathy. Fennell revealed that she volunteered to sit on them herself during filming. “Somebody has to do it, and I don't want my crew to have to sit on a bunch of eggs, so I'm like, I'll do it,” she said.Earlier in the episode, Chloe and Chioma catch up on their two iconic covers released this week: powerhouse pop star Rosalía (Chloe's first print issue for Vogue) and Bhavitha Mandava, the newest model taking over the fashion industry. Chloe also previews the NYFW schedule, highlighting Rachel Scott's Proenza Schouler show as one to watch, while Chioma recounts her morning, which included breakfast with Jill Biden. Rebecca Leber-Gottberg talks to us about the history of the bookstore, her role there, and books that folks in Boise have been buying, but she also explains the bookstore's Read Freely Project, which is their effort to get banned and threatened books dispersed throughout the community.    And in our book rec section, we're jumping into spooky season with books related to ghosts, but if you don't like horror, don't worry: a lot of these “ghostly” books aren't horror, and some of them may only seem to be about ghosts. We've got a historical fiction about the Sri Lankan civil war, a detective story in which ghosts are witnesses, a nonfiction book about unexplained phenomena which may or may not involve ghosts, a funny novella, a supernatural suspense, and a ghostly gothic novel set in Mexico.   Books Discussed in this Episode: 1- A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway 2- The Shift: One Nurse, Twelve House, Four Patients' Lives by Theresa Brown 3- American Sirens: The Incredible Story of the Black Men Who Became America's First Paramedics by Kevin Hazzard 4- The Queen Bees of Tybee County by Kyle Casey Chu 5- The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer  6- Trans History: A Graphic Novel by Alex L.
