Can our animal friends help us heal from things like grief and anxiety ? If you haven't heard of equine therapy or healing with horses- it's actually been around for centuries. Horses have been utilized as a therapeutic aid since the ancient Greeks used them for those people who had incurable illnesses. Its earliest recorded mention is in the writings of Hippocrates who discussed the therapeutic value of riding. Today we are going to learn more about the idea of healing with horses. I want to welcome Anna Marie Ellison, creator of Healed by a Horse who is working professionally as an Intuitive Coach, Energy Healer and Soul Level Animal Communicator and Julie Hirt who is one of our podcasters on the MindBodySpirit.fm podcast network and a co host of The Animal Communication podcast as well as an Intuitive Coach, and Soul Level Animal Communicator. Thank you.https://cincinnati.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bfnkUqsHT6PIj3MIn this engaging conversation, Dr. Ed Hirt, a professor of social psychology at Indiana University, shares his insights on the psychology of fandom, particularly focusing on Cincinnati Reds fans. He discusses his personal experiences growing up as a Reds fan, the emotional highs and lows associated with team success and failure, and the concept of 'basking in reflected glory.' The conversation delves into the complexities of fan loyalty, the impact of team performance on personal identity, and the evolving nature of fandom in modern sports, including the shift towards individual player allegiances. Dr. Hirt also reflects on the identity crisis faced by Cubs fans after their historic 2016 World Series win and shares thoughts on the most insufferable fan bases in sports.TakeawaysFandom is a significant part of personal identity.Emotional investment in sports can affect mood and self-esteem.Fans often feel a sense of pride through their team's success. The concept of 'basking in reflected glory' explains fan behavior.Real fans remain loyal through wins and losses.Camaraderie among fans enhances the experience of following a team.Changing allegiances can complicate fan identity.Modern sports marketing focuses more on individual players than teams.Nostalgia plays a crucial role in maintaining fan loyalty. The emotional highs and lows of fandom are universal experiences.Sound Bites"There's always next year.""It's tough on us in the process.""We want the real fans here."

Discussion: Dr. Stephanie Holmes and Dr. Sean Hirt discuss their clinical training and how neither was trained in neurodiversity despite the update in thinking about the Autism Spectrum (DSM-IV Asperger's). Dr. Holmes and Dr. Hirt discuss that applying neurotypical marriage models to Neurodiverse couples is not only not helpful but potentially harmful. Dr. Hirt discusses the role of the central nervous system and its impact on regulation and how typical marriage work may disrupt both partners. Have you heard from your pastor or Christian counselor- Marriage is Marriage, or Marriage is supposed to be hard. Or you tell your counselor you are a neurodiverse couple, or you attend an intensive, and they tell you that your neurodiversity doesn't matter- their model will work if you have enough faith?Let's Discuss That! About Our Guest: Dr. Hirt has an array of clinical experience in a variety of settings, including private practice, residential treatment centers, non-public schools, and emergency shelters. He is particularly sought out for his expertise in treating and addressing anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, behavioral issues, and autism spectrum disorder in children and adolescents. Other areas of focus include substance abuse, life-transition issues & trauma-related disorders. In therapy, Dr. Hirt uses empirically driven modalities to address the client's needs. He derives techniques from client-centered, cognitive-behavioral theory, attachment theory, as well as family systems. Dr. Hirt works closely with all clients to develop an integrative, yet client-centered approach to treatment. More specifically, Dr. Hirt works with individuals to assist in developing the abilities and resources needed to reach goals, overcome hardships, and improve life satisfaction. When not working, you will often find him at parks and trails with family and friends. Dr. Hirt enjoys hiking, biking, running, and rock climbing! He also enjoys watching sports and traveling. However, his favorite pastime of all is spending time with his wife, daughters, and dog (Frank).Looking for Assessment: https://www.hirtpsychology.com/sean-hirt
Waaas? Was hat er gesagt? Zugrunde gehen?

Here's a trumpet player we've heard from before. He was a favorite of my dad's. He's also a favorite of mine. He's loud and powerful. He plays at just below a blatting level, but keeps in control with some of the most intricate music. He performed at halftime of the first Super Bowl and owned his own New Orleans jazz club.
He was a member of Nashville's A-Team. He invented the electric guitar ‘fuzz' effect by accident in a Marty Robbins recording session. He played on some of the most recognizable hit songs and landmark albums; not just country but rock, soul, folk, country rock and released some jazz guitar albums of his own. You can hear his work day in and day out: the Spanish-style acoustic work on Marty's El Paso, the opening and unforgettable lick on Roy Orbison's Oh Pretty Woman, plus dozens upon dozens more. He was one of the most sought after session men in the industry. Oh, and his jazz work with Mancini, Hirt and Fountain were followed by a gig as session leader for Vanguard Records' album releases of Joan Baez, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Country Joe. If there's a word that goes a step beyond prolific, it describes Grady Martin. Join us for a show that celebrates the legend.

Send us a textIn this deeply emotional episode, I'm joined by my friend and animal communicator Julie Hirt, whose gift helped me connect with my beloved soul dog Rad during his illness and after he passed. Rad was the first true, unconditional love I experienced, and even though he's no longer with me in body, our relationship continues to grow. Today, I have the chance to reconnect with Rad and seek his guidance. This episode is also about my next soul dog, Mellow. Mellow is so different from Rad—he's loud, youthful, and full of energy—but I'm convinced Rad sent him to me for a reason. This is a chance to better understand Mellow's unique spirit, deepen my bond with him, and learn how their spirits are connected. With Julie's guidance, we'll explore how animals continue to teach us through love, loss, and presence, and how pain can become a portal to power. We'll reflect on the playful irony of Rad being mellow in spirit while Mellow is truly rad (though not always mellow). Whether you're grieving a pet, caring for one, or simply want to deepen your connection with them, this episode is a hopeful, heartfelt journey of love and healing.Julie is a Certified Soul Level Animal Communicator®, Certified Heart Animal Soul Professional Communicator, Certified Soul Level Intuitive Coach®, and Certified Spirit Animal Sacred Alchemy Practitioner. Her Substack column, Trust the Animals, shares coaching messages from animals and a special series on grief. She is also a teaching assistant for the Danielle MacKinnon School and the co-host of The Animal Communication Podcast on Mind, Body, Spirit.fm. Julie celebrates the partnership we all have with our pets and believes our pets are our life coaches. Her own “dog-pack,” made up of both alive and in-spirit members, has guided her through trauma and physical injury. These experiences led her to co-create a life she never imagined for herself, and now, she helps others do the same with their beloved pets.Connect with Julie here:juliehirt-intuitive.comSubstack The Animal Communication Podcast Learn how to be an animal communicator with Danielle MacKinnonSocial Media Links:https://www.facebook.com/juliehirtintuitivehttps://www.instagram.com/juliehirt_intuitive/Masterful Listening is sponsored by Rad Hats For Rad Humans. 30% of every purchase goes towards mental health initiatives. On the season VI finale of “Saturated,” Carolyn Hadlock and IU students Mina Denny and Caterina DeSantis bring back Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at IU, Dr. Edward Hirt. If you recall, we kicked off “Saturated” with Dr. Hirt. Instead of focusing on the ways in which saturation depletes us as we did in the first episode, here we tap into how we can recharge and ameliorate our mental batteries amongst saturation. Whether an idea of someone else sparks a new creation of our own, or just the mere image of another empowering us to tap into the unique singularity of ourselves, there is beautiful opportunity within this phenomenon.

Welcome to a comprehensive presentation about the amazing fitness benefits of sprinting and how to conduct workouts correctly! While I have talked about the importance (and benefits) of sprinting for years on the podcast, a listener recently pointed out that I've never done a dedicated show on this subject, so in this episode, we're going deep: You will learn about all the benefits, rationale, and science behind sprinting, as well as the practical application of how to integrate correctly designed sprint workouts into your fitness program. Unfortunately, despite its importance, this is an area of deficiency for many devoted fitness enthusiasts. However, as you will learn why in this show, we have a critical obligation to build our competency in this area, since sprinting is a key component to aging gracefully, longevity, health vitality, and peak performance, and it offers not just physical benefits, but also cognitive ones. TIMESTAMPS: Sprinting is a key component of aging gracefully and promoting longevity, health, vitality, and peak performance at all lower levels of intensity. [00:48] The hormonal signaling for going out and jogging or pedaling your bicycle for long distance is not directly correlated with dropping excess body fat. [04:00] The hormonal benefits are there when you perform no impact or low impact sprints. Sprinting on flat ground is the harder workout. [09:47] Once a week, once every seven to 10 days for a high impact running sprint is plenty, even for a very competent fitness enthusiast, let alone a novice. [11:00] HIIT vs. HIRT is explained. Too many people participate in overly stressful exercises which do not help your long-term steady progression of fitness levels. [14:13] The risk of injury skyrockets when you are asked to do a workout for which you are not capable. [17:12] You want to be 100 percent rested and energized to deliver a peak performance effort every time you conduct a sprint workout. [20:26] The proper techniques are available on Brad's YouTube videos. They include maintaining a straight and elongates spine throughout the stride pattern, and maintaining a strong foot position. [23:16] You burn energy better, you burn fat better, you store energy better from sprinting. [25:25] Sprinting also helps you become more alert, more energized and more insulin sensitive. It also boosts your testosterone status. [28:42] There is research showing that sprinting makes you smarter! And you also upregulate an assortment of anti-inflammatory processes. [35:54] The number one goal to promote long healthy, active, energetic life is maintaining strong muscle mass.
