Hey guys, Debbie Nigro here — and if you're anything like me, you're holding on to hope, love, and music to lift your spirits… in spite of it all. That phrase — “in spite of it all” — felt like the perfect segue into one of the most meaningful and emotional conversations I've had in a long time on The Debbie Nigro Show. I had the honor of welcoming the incredible Wayne Warnicke, a legendary music producer who was diagnosed with ALS in 2022, and his powerhouse of a wife, the talented and soulful Vaneese Thomas. Together, they are the heartbeat behind Musicians United for ALS, a one-night-only benefit concert packed with iconic talent — all coming together to raise funds for ALS research and patient support. Meet Wayne & Vaneese: They Brought Such Great Energy to the Show. Theirs Is a Love Story in Music and Resilience Wayne's story is one of deep passion and remarkable perseverance. From starting as a drummer at age 9 to producing legends like Bob James, Luther Vandross, and David Sanborn, Wayne's music journey has been nothing short of epic. He fell in love with the studio life as a teenager walking into Minot Sound in White Plains — and never looked back. And then there's Vaneese. A force of nature. A blues powerhouse. A woman who met Wayne in the studio and never left his side. Now, she's not only singing the blues, but she's also living with love and lifting Wayne every step of the way. “She does everything,” Wayne said, with humor in his voice and gratitude in his heart. “I'm a lot of work,” he chuckled. And yet, his spirit is unstoppable. Mark your calendars: April 15th at the Concert Hall at SUNY Purchase. This ADA-compliant venue will welcome a phenomenal lineup of artists, many of whom have deep personal ties to Wayne: Patti Smythe of Scandal Paul Shaffer of Late Show with David Letterman fame Average White Band (hello, 70s groove!) Lisa Fisher, Grammy-winning vocal goddess James "D-Train" Williams Bob James (another Grammy legend!) Ed Palermo Big Band Bernie Williams, yes, THAT Bernie from the Yankees Rising local star Elsa, guitar virtuoso Gil Parris, and more! And hosting the evening? None other than Vinnie Pastore of The Sopranos — you know it's going to be a blast. The musical direction is in the expert hands of Rob Mathes, a Kennedy Center Honors-level arranger and a dear friend of the couple. Plus, yes — there will be cocktails and hors d'oeuvres starting at 5:30pm, all included in your ticket! Why This Matters ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is cruel, mysterious, and currently incurable. Wayne's journey with ALS began when he couldn't quite stand up straight… then swimming got harder… and eventually, the diagnosis came. But rather than retreat, Wayne has rallied. He's using his voice — and his incredible connections — to shine a light and raise funds. As he put it, “If life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” This event is about music, yes. But it's also about love, awareness, accessibility, and hope. The funds raised will go directly toward research and patient support, and the energy in the room will be unforgettable. Get Your Tickets or Donate Now! Visit Musicians United for ALS to buy your tickets or make a donation. (Yes, it's tax-deductible!) Show Wayne, Vaneese, and the entire ALS community that they are not alone. Final Thoughts You know, some people just have that light. Wayne and Vaneese are those people. Their love, their strength, their humor, and their commitment to turning a difficult diagnosis into a night of celebration… it's just extraordinary. I promise you'll be inspired listening to them both in this podcast of our live conversation on The Debbie Nigro Show.

I'm Hunter, your devoted Bible reading coach, and today is day 62 in our journey through the Bible. As we gather from all over the world, we're here to warm our souls in the transformative fires of God's love, presence, and wisdom. Today, we're diving deep into the book of Numbers, reading chapters 32 and 33 and finishing in Mark 10. We'll explore the story of the tribes of Reuben and Gad as they seek land east of the Jordan River and reflect on Jesus's teachings and miracles, including the healing of blind Bartimaeus. Throughout it all, we'll let the Word of God illuminate our hearts and guide us to the living Word of God, Jesus himself. Join me as we read together and invite the love of God to reign in our lives. Stay tuned, as we embark on this soul-stirring journey through Scripture, encouraging hearts around the world to awaken to the gospel and discover the boundless love of God. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He offers us sight and understanding. Sight for the blind. That's what we witness in the miracle of blind Bartimaeus, as captured in our reading today. And yet, even before the physical act of healing, Bartimaeus showcases an extraordinary inner vision, a seeing that transcends physical limitations. The miracle of his sight began with hearing. Bartimaeus heard the stories, the whispers, the rumors of a man from Nazareth – a friend to the sinners, a champion against hypocrisy, a messenger of hope. He heard that Jesus was coming, and that stirred something within him. Despite the crowd, despite his position on the side of the road, Bartimaeus recognized the truth with clarity. The one who could save, who could show him a new world, was near. So he shouted with conviction, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Amidst the chaos, Bartimaeus's heart saw what others couldn't. The relentless call, even when met with resistance, was an act of faith that Jesus responded to. The exchange between Jesus and Bartimaeus is revealing – “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus's longing for sight points us to a deeper truth. It's not only physical eyesight he needs, but the revelation of who Jesus truly is – "My Rabbi." In this exchange, the eyes of Bartimaeus' heart had already been opened. His faith and understanding preceded his miraculous healing. When the heart awakens to God's love, we find ourselves seeing and understanding with clarity. As Bartimaeus did, may we recognize the truth of who Jesus is. May we respond to His call, and when our hearts see, our lives inevitably follow where he leads us. That's the prayer I have today—for my own heart to catch a glimpse of God's love, for my family to share in this understanding, and for you as well. May the eyes of your heart be open, and may you follow the path He sets before you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Welcome back to Friendship Therapy! This is the bitesize episode, where Emma discusses her therapeutic takeaways from her conversation with this week's guest, Rachel. On Monday's episode, Rachel bravely opened up about the loss of her father two years ago. It was a bereavement that, in her words, 'shone a light' on the friends who were willing to get in the trenches with her, and those who couldn't meet her where she was.For Rachel, the death of her dad signified the end of an incredibly difficult six months since his re-diagnosis, during which she had to contend with the inevitable arrival of her very worst fear, and the loss of the hope that she had been holding on to since she was a 12 year old girl making wishes on birthday candles. The losses that Rachel had experienced since she was a child gave her a sense of vigilance that stayed with her into adulthood, causing her to feel fearful of change, particularly within her friendship groups. In this bitesize episode, Emma explores where Rachel's fear of loss and endings originates from and how it is showing up in her friendships now, with the help of the blind spot profiles in her latest book, What am I Missing? Emma also explains the concept of 'compound loss' in therapy and how we can begin to navigate it, and why fear, hope, love and sadness exist most productively when we allow them to co-exist.Find out more about the blind spot profiles: https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/454959/what-am-i-missing-by-turrell-emma-reed/9780241624982If you'd like to apply to appear on the podcast in season two, please click the link below to fill out the form: https://forms.gle/owsfs6DVxVdTMFo46 ---Friendship Therapy is hosted by Emma Reed Turrell, produced by Chris Sharp and Lauren Brook.--- Social media: Emma Reed Turrell @emmareedturrellFriendship Therapy @friendshiptherapypodEmail: contact@friendshiptherapypod.co.uk

YET, STILL, I DARE TO HOPE Love Returned Series Lamentations 3 As we delve into Lamentations 3 and confront the harsh reality of our existence, we realize that despite being children of God and bearing the kingdom of heaven within us, we remain entrenched in a world marred by sin and suffering. Our anguish may stem from our transgressions or the wrongdoing of others. Jeremiah, the prophet, bore witness to the suffering of his people, a consequence of their refusal to heed divine warnings. While he could have harbored resentment and turned away, Jeremiah's response mirrored the compassion of the Lord. The Lord's correction, born out of love, seeks not rejection but restoration. Jeremiah, in solidarity with his people, endured the siege of Jerusalem, grappling with profound despair. He recognized that even amidst this tribulation, the Lord permitted their suffering. In the depths of his desolation, Jeremiah's proclamation in verses 21-23 resonates: "Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Though despair threatened to consume him, Jeremiah clung to the Lord's covenant promises. Through trials, God's mercy prevailed, transforming adversity into a blessing for those who trust Him. Jeremiah admonishes himself to await salvation patiently, relinquishing complaint and embracing discipline. He urges submission, advocating for endurance in the face of adversity and forgiveness in response to injury. "For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion. Because of the greatness of his unfailing love. For he does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow." (vs. 31-33) Jeremiah implores us to refrain from bitterness, to accept divine correction with grace, and to become instruments of restoration. Our hearts should ache for those trapped in sin's grip, prompting us to extend mercy and guidance toward their redemption. Rather than harboring resentment, we trust in the Lord's justice, knowing He will repay wrongdoing. In a world steeped in suffering and sin, may we echo Jeremiah's resolve to endure with hope, extend mercy, and embrace the call to restoration.

This conversation with Rainier Wylde is great example of why I created this podcast. To learn from people and their lived experience. To provide an opportunity for others to share their stories. To connect more deeply with people at a time when slow, intentional, consciously nurtured connections are replaced by desperate dopamine benders and superficial scrolling frenzies. To learn to listen better. To practice asking better questions. To share the wisdom and perspective of others who are generous enough to share their lives, their lessons and their own questions with me. Rainier has plenty to share and does so with a poetic meter informed by a life of well lived experiences. We dive straight into it as Rainier shares his experience of grieving the recent loss of his father. In his signature storytelling style, Rainier shares stories of key moments - both big and small, all profound, key moments that have changed his life and helped him connect to a greater sense of appreciation and awe for it all, especially the seemingly insignificant moments. Here's some of what we cover:Grief and why we find it so hard to deal with death and endings His upbringing with in an evangelical sect and core lessons learnedFalls from graceFacing his own shadow and history of infidelity, keeping agreements and redemptionHis creative process - paying attention to lifeWhy a Negroni is the perfect metaphor for lifeIt's an inspiring conversation - it's raw, honest and heartfelt. As the Christmas festival continues, Roy Jenkins explores – with the help of a range of guests – the significance of one of the best known seasonal texts. The Magnificat is an outpouring of joy from Mary, on hearing the news from the Archangel Gabriel that she is to give birth to Jesus. The text, from St Luke's Gospel, will have been heard in many churches during the past few weeks as part of the telling of the Christmas story. There have been countless musical settings down the centuries – ranging from single line Gregorian chant to more florid settings from JS Bach and Palestrina, and in the present day from composers such as John Tavener and Arvo Pärt. As the Magnificat has an important place in Roman Catholic and Anglican liturgy, there are numerous settings for singing in the daily round of Vespers and Choral Evensongs in our cathedrals and churches. On the face of it, the Magnificat or “Mary's Song” as it's sometime known, isn't such good news for the mighty who will be unseated, and the rich who will be sent empty away. The German pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer who was executed by the Nazis, described the Magnificat as “the most passionate, the wildest… the most revolutionary hymn ever sung.” But after a year during which we have seen the start of a war, a rise in the cost of living, a widening of the gap between rich and poor, continuing pestilence and the ravages of climate change, what hope can we glean from it for 2023? Our guests: The Rt Revd Mary Stallard, Assistant Bishop of Bangor. Andrew Wilson-Dickson, composer and Cardiff-based musician. Dr Emma Gibbins, Director of Music, St Woolos Cathedral, Newport. Revd Dr Craig Gardiner, Tutor at South Wales Baptist College and Cardiff University. Sean Stillman, Minister at Zac's Place, Swansea, and International President of God Squad. Revd Dr Jennie Hurd, Chair of Wales Synod Cymru of the Methodist Church. The programme includes extracts of settings of the Magnificat by Sir John Tavener, JS Bach, Charles Villiers Stanford, Richard Shephard, and Margaret Rizza.

This week we're finishing our mini-series on The Stories Collective in sharing Part 3 of The Sullivan's story. If you remember Episode 29, Jenny shared that a few months after her husband Brad had passed away in March of 2009, she became aware of a blog by a man named Brady Sullivan. He was walking through very similar circumstances as his wife Sara was walking through cancer while being pregnant. Jenny felt compelled to pray for Brady and Sara and posted it on her blog (we've linked that below). Sara passed away near the end of September 2009. Eight months later in May of 2010 Jenny reached out to Brady through email. She shared a little bit of her story and that she had been praying for him after Sara's passing. They began a friendship through email and soon emails turned to phone calls and in person meetings. This friendship would mark the start of a healing journey and broken hearts would be filled with hope for the future. The power of prayer and the connection the internet can bring beautifully points to God's plan in this story. We hope that you'll listen to find out where Brady + Jenny are now!Blogging was an important part of both Brady + Jenny's healing journeys. You can check them out at the links below.Blog post where Jenny first shared she was praying for Brady and Sara - http://thewims.blogspot.com/2009/09/please-pray-for-sullivans.htmlBlog post where Jenny introduces Brady to her followers - http://thewims.blogspot.com/2011/01/two-incredible-blessings.htmlBlog post where Brady introduces Jenny to his followers - http://bandssullivan.blogspot.com/2011/02/meet-jenny-wims.htmlBlog post detailing Brady + Jenny's wedding - http://bandssullivan.blogspot.com/2011/08/quick-update.htmlWould you please subscribe and leave us a review? This Little Light of Mine - LGBTQ, Christianity, religious trauma, mental health
Hello and welcome to This Little Light of Mine, my name is James Powell and I'm so glad that you are able to join me for today's story episode entitled Grief, Loss, Hope, Love One of the more surprising things I discovered during my time in rehab was the duality of recovery. Yes, recovery is learning to stop or let go of behaviours and actions that may no longer be serving you. AND, recovery is also about remembering behaviours and actions that I had almost given up hope for. For me, my recovery journey has been a twisting and winding road where I am being reminded and retaught that I am worthy of love, that I am lovable, and that I am capable of loving others. In today's story episode, I take you back inside the walls of my rehab experience to share what I learned about grief and loss and about how avoiding pain was also helping me to avoid the one thing that I've been searching for my entire life. When I started to be with my grief and loss, I also started to find hope and love. Episode links: Commitment and Healing: Gay Men and the Need for Romantic Love James
OH my gosh! This conversation is so juicy and was so rewarding. We talked about how we find hope in dark times and then opening the floor to our listeners we dove into forgiveness and love. I hope this episode will leave you feeling hope toward loving your people and I hope you see that incredible bonds of love can exist especially when as humans we are so imperfect!
ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 127 Building a Different Kind of Motherhood Experience Than We Had Anticipated with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder Mom and Founder of Art For Hope Love Cure, Marissa Bishop Marissa Bishop's son Gregory was born with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder (CDD), a rare neurological disease that causes a variety of symptoms including seizures and cortical visual impairment. Marissa is a board member for the International Foundation for CDKL5 Research (IFCR) and started Art For Hope|Love|Cure to raise money for CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder research. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Can you tell us about Gregory? Gregory is almost 6 years old and my only child. He's handsome, laid back and a great snuggler! He lives with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder (CDD), which is a developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. His brain is missing a protein essential for healthy brain function. Being his mom has challenged me in ways I never could have imagined, but he's a wonderful little boy. How did you connect with the rare disease community and get involved in advocacy? I asked our early intervention provider to help me connect with other moms who had kids that weren't typically developing. CDKL5 has a support group for parents on Facebook and I've been able to find friendships there with other moms who have sons that are Gregory's age. Can you share about Art For Hope|Love|Cure? Gregory doesn't have a lot of functional finger skills or function vision, so doing toddler crafts wasn't practical, but what worked best to be creative was painting on canvas. I began using Gregory's creations to raise awareness and fundraise for CDKL5. I started Art For Hope|Love|Cure on social media, took the artwork to craft shows which helped me talk to people about CDKL5. The creative endeavor has been fun and has served multiple purposes- giving Gregory and I something special we do together, raise awareness and raise funds. I'm always in search of ways to embrace Gregory's rare disease and bring richness to our lives and this has brought a lot of joy to me.
