In this Mini episode, we're back to the world of Shakespeare with “Much Ado About Nothing”, and ask questions we hadn't asked before. Note, this episode features spoilers for the book. The Back of the Book: “The primary plot of Much Ado About Nothing turns on the courtship and scandal involving young Hero and her suitor, Claudio, but the witty war of words between Claudio's friend Benedick and Hero's cousin Beatrice often takes center stage. Set in Messina, the play begins as Don Pedro's army returns after a victory.”Content WarningsNASupport the showRecommend us a Book!If there's a book you want to recommend to us to read, just send us a message/email and we'll pop it on our long list (but please read our review policy on our website first for the books we accept).Social MediaWebsite: https://teachingmycattoread.wordpress.com/Email: teachingmycattoread@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachmycat2read/Tumblr: https://teachingmycattoread.tumblr.comYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFXi9LNQv8SBQt8ilgTZXtQListener Surveyhttps://forms.gle/TBZUBH4SK8dez8RP9

Much Ado About Nothing – Act V scene 2, 3, 4 Benedick is boastful, Beatrice too witty, Hero too innocent, Claudio's a fool, yet love finds a way to work it all out.
Rising star of stage and screen GRANTHAM COLEMAN joined host NATHAN WINKELSTEIN, Red Bull's Associate Artistic Director, for a conversation focused on Much Ado About Nothing's Benedick–a role he played to great acclaim for Shakespeare in Park in 2019. He read an excerpt from the play and discussed the challenges of that particular speech from Act 2 Scene 3, as well as the rewards of playing one of Shakespeare's most charismatic leading men. (January 19, 2022)
In today's episode, we are exploring how Shakespeare was influenced by The Book of the Courtier by Baldassare Castiglione as he was writing Much Ado About Nothing. We'll discuss how close reading of both Shakespeare's play and Castiglione's Renaissance etiquette book uncovers layers of intertextuality and references to The Courtier in Shakespeare's writing. First, we'll discuss some parallels between The Courtier and Much Ado About Nothing. Then we will dig deeper into Book 3 of The Courtier and how its messages on joking, jesting, and laughter can be read in Much Ado About Nothing. We will also briefly discuss how Hero and Beatrice reflect The Courtier's ideal for Renaissance women. Finally, we will closely examine the courtiers in Much Ado About Nothing and how the characters of Benedick, Claudio, Don Pedro, and Don John can be read through the lens of good (and bad) courtier behavior as outlined in The Courtier. We will also discuss which of these courtiers comes the closest to Castiglione's ideal courtier, and what early modern English behaviors Shakespeare may have been commenting on through this play. If you're a crippled Eskimo girl, would the best story you could ever read have a crippled Eskimo girl as the hero? Many book publishers and movie studios today would say YES. (The part they don't say is that the only reason they don't make more movies about Eskimos on crutches is because that demographic doesn't sell enough tickets.) Another way to ask this question: Do stories appeal because the main character represents you? Or do they appeal because you connect with the main character? Here's the takeaway: Representation is pointless; connection is the holy grail of storytelling. And the confusion of "representation" and "connection" is behind much of our worst woke storytelling today. Nate doesn't connect with a "father of five" on screen because he himself feels represented as a father of five -- there needs to be some human connection, some shared feeling or experience, if you want a character to resonate with the audience. The SASF guys discuss the difference between, say, the generic heroine of Princess Diaries versus Beatrice and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing. And then they get into a discussion of character archetypes, and how, in storytelling as in a restaurant, you can have all the ingredients of a great burger and still end up with a terrible burger. You also get to hear Nate hate on Shakespeare's tragedies while Brian tries to defend them, and hear which Shakespeare play Nate has adapted into a high-school rom-com. #SASF #StoriesAreSoulFood #Books #Movies #NDWilson #Shakespeare #PrincessDiaries #wokestorytelling
Join us as I sit down with Benedick Howard, a remarkable "sacred scientist" whose journey from General Electric engineer to Longevity Health Coach and Podcaster is as inspiring as it is unconventional. With a background spanning diverse disciplines like Ashtanga Yoga, high-altitude hiking, and electrotherapy, Benedick brings a unique blend of analytical rigor and intuitive wisdom to his holistic approach to health coaching. Through his pioneering work with sound healing, including the creation of the transformative DreamWeaver system, Benedick sheds light on the energetic dimensions of wellness often overlooked by mainstream medicine. Discover his insights, gleaned from decades of exploration and experimentation, as he shares his vision for achieving optimal health and harmony with nature. Here are some key takeaways from this interview: Benedick Howard is a "sacred scientist" who has spent decades researching holistic healing modalities like sound, energy medicine, sacred geometry, homeopathy, and herbalism. He created the "Dreamweaver" system which uses vibration, music, and the shape of a dodecahedron to release blocked energy and stress from the body and energy field. He believes that sound healing works because sound waves create an electromagnetic field that interfaces with the etheric energies around us. Mainstream ideas about sound only look at the physical aspect (molecules hitting eardrums) and miss this key energetic component. He traveled extensively in Africa in his younger years which opened his eyes to living more in harmony with nature and abundance. This set him on the path of inner development and holistic healing. Now 72, he pushes his physical limits hiking to high altitudes in Hawaii while writing a new book. He is passionate about exposing myths around modern medicine, science, infections, etc. Links: https://benedickhoward.com/fallacy-and-idiocracy-podcast/ https://www.facebook.com/BenedickHoward https://www.linkedin.com/in/benedickhoward/ https://www.instagram.com/fallacy.idiocracy/ https://www.youtube.com/@FallacyIdiocracy Show Notes: Longevity coaching with a Hawaii-based healthy healer. 0:05 Personal growth, spirituality, and health with a 72-year-old guest. 1:03 Personal growth, spirituality, and engineering. 5:42 Spirituality, tax evasion, and interdimensional law. 10:15 Sound healing and dodecahedron shape. 14:04 Sound healing and its effects on the body. 19:06 Sound healing, electromagnetism, and personal growth. 23:32
In this solo reflection episode, Dr. Fred delves into the intricate connections between sound, geometry, and nature as powerful tools for healing. From Benedick's journey as a sacred scientist to his advocacy for unconventional learning and longevity coaching, Dr. Fred unpacks the profound insights shared during their discussion. Join us as we explore the transformative potential of holistic healing practices, challenge conventional wisdom, and embrace authenticity on the path to well-being. Here are some key takeaways from the solo podcast: Dr. Fred reflects on his recent conversation with Benedick Howard, a Hawaiian man deeply involved in exploring the intersections of sound, geometry, and nature in healing practices. Benedick explored unconventional education paths which taught him exponentially more than the standard educational system. He sees himself as a "troubled child" who challenged the interface between what society teaches us and deeper truths. His worldview changed through experiences like working deep underground in Canadian mines, where he connected with earth energies and animals/plants. He realized nature serves us in unexpected ways beyond what conventional education teaches. Now 72, Benedick climbs Hawaiian mountain peaks, practices yoga, hosts community gatherings, and podcasts. As a "longevity coach" he pushes physical limits while exposing medical/societal myths. He is fascinated by "antenna" capacity of geometric shapes like the dodecahedron to access universal energies. This contrasts pyramid shapes that lock things down rather than liberate. Explore what parts of your life are inconsistent with your essence. Let those parts go and discover opportunities for self/collective healing aligned with core truths.

Much Ado About Nothing – Act II, scene 2, 3 Don John finds another way, while Benedick is made sport of.
The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: voicesoftoday.net/maan Much Ado About Nothing appears to have been written about 1599, shortly before As You Like It and Twelfth Night. The action combines two narrative threads: the spirited comedy of the courtship of Benedick and Beatrice, and the somber tale of confused love between Hero and Claudio. The first is a creation by Shakespeare and the second appears to have been drawn from an Italian source, either by Bandello or Ariosto. The action takes place in Messina. Eponymous lovers Hero and Claudio seem to be ideally matched and nearly everyone is looking forward to their impending marriage. The odd man out is the sinister Don John, brother and former enemy of Don Pedro, Prince of Aragon, but recently restored to the Prince's favor. Being of a morose and jealous temperament, Don John plots to disrupt the wedding and cause division between the lovers, with the aid of his fellow conspirators, Borachio and Conrade. However, this evil plan is thwarted by an unexpected incursion by the bumbling constables Dogberry and Verges. The young couple are finally reunited, but only after Claudio has first been led to believe that his rejected spouse, Hero, has died of shame and grief. The matching of Beatrice and Benedick, encouraged by some artful chicanery by Hero and Claudio, and marked by many witty and sardonic exchanges of repartee, serves to lighten the texture of the darker elements of the action. Featuring Emma Faye as Hero, Kendra Murray as Beatrice, Dara Brown as Claudio, Lillian Rachel as Benedick, Cate Barratt as Dogberry, and Gary Macfadden as Don John. Also featuring the voices of Catherine Bilson, Ron Altman, Alan Weyman, P J Morgan, Claudio Anglade, John Burlinson and Linda Barrans. Songs arranged by Alan Weyman Audio edited by Denis Daly

In the merry land of Messina, mirth and mischief dance a lively jig. Kenneth Branagh, as our gallant Benedick, doth spar with Emma Thompson's sharp-tongued Beatrice, their jests as quick as summer lightning, whilst Robert Sean Leonard's Claudio, deceived by foul machinations, doth spurn his fair Hero, played by tender Kate Beckinsale. Amidst the confusion, Denzel Washington, as noble Don Pedro, guideth the play to a joyful denouement, and Keanu Reeves, as the black-hearted Don John, meets his just desserts. BENEDICK But it is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted: and I would I could find in my heart that I had not a hard heart; for, truly, I love none. BEATRICE A dear happiness to women: they would else have been troubled with a pernicious suitor. I thank God and my cold blood, I am of your humour for that: I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me. BENEDICK God keep your ladyship still in that mind! so some gentleman or other shall 'scape a predestinate scratched face. William Shakespeare's “Much Ado About Nothing” has it all: heroes, villains, loyalty and betrayal, hatred and love, serious crime and silly sidelights. At one point it veers dangerously close to utter tragedy only to come right again with true love conquering even the coldest hearts. I asked Dr. Tiffany Schubert to begin giving us an overview of the play.

Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare audiobook. Written around the middle of his career, Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare's great festive comedies. The men are back from the war, and everyone is ready for romance. The dashing young Claudio falls for Hero, the daughter of Leonato, governor of Messina, and his friend Don Pedro helps him secure her affection. These youthful lovers are contrasted with the more experienced (and more cynical) Benedick and Beatrice, who have to be tricked into falling in love. Don Pedro's bastard brother, Don John, provides the intrigue, and the dimwitted constable Dogberry provides the laughs.

The Play Podcast - 048 - Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare Host: Douglas Schatz Guest: Lucy Bailey The Play Podcast is a podcast dedicated to exploring the greatest new and classic plays. In each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is rightly renowned for the “merry war” of wits between the reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick, but alongside their brilliant partnership, there is also a darker story of misogyny and betrayal that gives the play a more complex and challenging character. Lucy Bailey, director of the joyous production currently running at the Globe Theatre in London joins me to review this romantic rollercoaster.
Another week, another episode everyone! For the Rundown we discuss "On the Count of Three", "Black Site", show "Winning Time", and a ton of news like "She-Hulk" trailer dropping, a ton of Star Wars news, and several hilarious Twitter reviews for "Chip and Dale" and "Bob's Burgers". We recorded this segment semi-late into the night so if we sound sleep-deprived and delirious, that's because we are. But it makes for some great laughs. What also makes for some great laughs is bringing back our friend from across the pond Benedick to host a team trivia match between yours truly and the M&K Productions podcast hosts Mac and Kristin. Will Ben and the Rod-father be victorious, or will M&K keep up their hot streak? Tune in to find out. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/infinity-bros/support
Civil rights attorney, activist and Racial Justice Network founder Nekima Levy Armstrong appreciates the work of independent photojournalist KingDemetrius Pendleton, who has long documented social justice demonstrations and events. Levy Armstrong said he's known on the streets as the Black CNN, “because he's always there, always documenting.” His photography exhibit, The Movement Never Stops, runs Friday through Sunday at Block Portrait Studios in St. Paul. Pendleton's exhibit will include photographs taken across the Twin Cities after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officers. “I think that people will be in for a real surprise, just to see the scope and depth of what he has been able to capture through his lens, and through his dedication and steadfast commitment to the fight for racial justice and pushing for an end to police violence,” said Levy Armstrong. Dancer Erin Thompson of Minneapolis called the Riverside Park Sound Garden installation last spring a “delight for the senses,” and she's looking forward to attending again this weekend. The family friendly outdoor event features dance and poetry along with an immersive soundscape created by J. G. Everest. “I just found that it kind of stopped time for me,” Thompson said. “It just combines nature and art in such a beautiful way. And it's very healing.” The Riverside Park Sound Garden runs noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the northwest corner of the park in Minneapolis. The event is free, but reservations are required. Comedian Tane Danger wants people to know that there's still time to catch Fearless Comedy Productions' production of Shakespeare's “Much Ado About Nothing” before it closes on Saturday. Delayed by the pandemic, the comedy features the epic battle of wits and witticisms between Beatrice and Benedick, who are perfect for each other — if only they could stop arguing long enough to realize it. Director Duck Washington sets the play in the postwar 1940s. The production is staged at the Mounds Theatre, a renovated art deco movie theater in St. Paul. The Mounds Theatre requires proof of full vaccination, including boosters as recommended by the CDC, as well as masks when not eating or drinking. Danger recommends checking out the themed cocktails that the theater pairs with its shows. Shows run Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

MUCH ADO is on festival tour! Hero and Beatrice, cousins and best friends, have very different approaches to love. Beatrice, burned once, is fiercely avoiding her arrogant ex-boyfriend Benedick and has sworn off men in general. When they get trapped in a house with the entire boys rugby team, they'll be forced to face the questions they'd been avoiding. Beatrice and Benedick often steal the show in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing with their sharp-tongued banter, and a romance that is as unlikely as it is inevitable. Composer Hector Berlioz was captivated by these characters, and turned their story into an operatic romantic comedy in his final completed opera, Béatrice et Bénédict. As the music soars and sparkles, join us for this “merry war!” Hosted by Pat, and Kathleen Van De Wille

On this episode of the VIP Ignite podcast, your host Deneen White is excited to interview NY based artist Brent Butler. Brent Butler is a multi-talented performer based out of NYC. His teen years fronting punk rock bands in South Jersey gave birth to his eclectic and unorthodox approach to hip-hop, rap, and pop. Dubbed the #ZackMorrisofRap and #DavidBowieofHipHop, Butler continues to wield a guitar and shred solos, while going toe-to-toe with the finest in underground rap today.Butler is also a skilled actor, improvisor and content creator--a lesser known talent of his until mutual friends brought his hilarity to the attention of writer/actor/comedian Victoria Vitkowsky-Bennett. After working on a few one-off sketches together, Victoria (aka Tori V./Tori No Pants) saw so much potential in their comedic chemistry that she suggested he be considered for the role of Benedick in Mug Life (2016) -- a role that she and her production partner, Kayla Barr, were not planning on casting until after the release of the first three episodes. Barr agreed after being blown away by his stage presence during the final night of The Cold Press' residency at the legendary Lower East Side music venue, Pianos.
