5/2/17: Steve Pearce went 4-for-4 with a pair of solo jacks, but Mat Latos allowed four of New York's five homers in an 11-5 loss.
DFSR’s Doug Norrie and James Davis take to the baseball podcast to discuss a full slate of evening games. There’s a lot to discuss, especially on the pitching side. Chris Sale headlines the talk as he’s been an ace’s ace this season. His numbers are in the Kershaw level with elite K’s and really limiting the walks. He’s almost certainly the chalk cash game pitcher. The guys also discuss Carlos Martinez, Jon Lester, Alex Wood, and James Paxton as considerations. On the offensive side of things they discuss the Cubs against Jeremy Hellickson, the Yankees against a garbage Mat Latos arm, The Red Sox against Alec Asher and the Reds. All of this and more on the Tuesday MLB podcast for FanDuel and DraftKings. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Fun. Not really. Today, we cover the most depressing, yet intriguing, of topics - the prospect of a rebuild. We also touch on the spot starts by Casey Lawrence and Mat Latos, take some of your questions, and, finally, discuss the month of April for the Blue Jays. Intro music: Copyright ACDC, 1990. Outro music: Copyright Adam Jesin, 2016.
DFSR’s Doug Norrie and James Davis take to the MLB podcast to discuss a couple of short slates for Thursday baseball. There’s a lot to like about both the early and the late. First off, Noah Syndergaard was scratched after they posted the podcast and Matt Harvey will take his spot in the rotation. But the early slate also features Corey Kluber, Justin Verlander and Carlos Martinez. The Cardinals are in a good spot all day in their double header against the Blue Jays, facing Mat Latos and Casey Lawrence respectively. And then we need to consider paying up for Coors’ bats. In the evening it’s all Chris Sale against the Yankees. He’s been about the best pitcher in baseball this season and is the clear cut ace for the evening. Learn more about your ad choices. It was all going so well for Mat Latos, who homered and allowed just one run in 4+ innings in his first start for the Nationals in what ended up an 8-1 win over the Mets. But he left the outing with cramping in his right hamstring, which wasn't considered too serious. The Nationals improved to 86-58 with the win, and ended the night with a 10.0 game lead in the NL East and a magic number of 9 to clinch the division. Two more with the Mets the next two days...
Roughly around when Montero was left in to give up a bomb to Mat Latos (who has a cat named Cat Latos), Jarrett gchatted Jeffrey to demand a podcast. Once Gabriel Ynoa was removed from the game, Jeffrey acquiesced, we called the Kates, and this is the result.
Reynaldo Lopez didn't last long tonight in Citi Field as the Washington Nationals fell behind 3-1 early in what ended up being a 5-1 loss to the New York Mets. Lopez was out after four innings and 85 pitches, but the Mets added two runs on a Jay Bruce HR in the sixth off Mat Latos as the NL East's second place team cruised to a win and two out of three with the Nationals in Citi Field. Danny Espinosa homered for the Nationals' only run, tying his previous career high with his 21st of the season. The Nats finished the night at 79-57 on the year, now they head home to D.C. for a three-game set with the Atlanta Braves.
Episode 178 – The Cookie Man Himself The latest episode of “Field of Streams” is live! In this episode, Dylan Higgins and Matthew Dewoskin discuss many emotions about James Shields’ second start for the White Sox, somehow missing Mat Latos, some potential Miggy on Miggy crime, the return of the best Chase Utley nickname, Tyler Naquin’s viability and pronunciation, […]
Joe Ross didn't bring his command with him to Chicago's south side, but he battled through four innings and the Washington Nationals' offense battled back from an early deficit to take the series opener with the White Sox, 10-5 in U.S. Cellular Field. Mat Latos wasn't too impressive either going just 4 1/3 innings and giving five hits four walks and six runs. Anthony Rendon, Jayson Werth and Michael Taylor had multi-hit games and the Nats improved to 35-23 on the year with the win in the series opener.
We are back and boy do we have a jammed packed show. With the NFL Draft just a couple of days away it feels right to discuss some NFL news. Guys like Mat Latos, Mark Trumbo, Colby Rasmus, Chris Carter and Jason Hammel. Next we discuss some MLB news and injuries that will affect your fantasy team. Episode 139 – Pulling This Train Back On Course The latest episode of “Field of Streams” is live! In this episode, Dylan Higgins and Matthew Dewoskin discuss Mat Latos’ inevitable regression, Logan Morrison’s ice-cold start, remembering when Tommy Milone was a useful streamer, a random Kevin Pillar fun fact, trying to make sense of Ian Kennedy, Robin Ventura’s […]

MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince caught up with White Sox reporter Scott Merkin to find out how Jackson can contribute in the outfield, whether or not Jimmy Rollins will be the starting shortstop and how Mat Latos could repair his reputation on and off the field.
Are the White Sox still interested in picking up Ian Desmond? MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince and White Sox reporter Scott Merkin explain why Tyler Saladino is still the starting shortstop, how Mat Latos can provide insurance and security in the back of the rotation and why this should be a bounce-back year for the White Sox.

There are times you know you are witnessing magic, like when a pitcher is in the middle of throwing a perfect game. The ball is dancing around, every pitch hits it’s spot, the ball is coming out seemingly a few mph faster with every pitch. You watch this feat and you can just tell something special is happening. You’re giddy with excitement that you can be a part of it. And sometimes you’re the hitter on the other end of that magic. Baffled, off-balance, defeated. Well folks, this week Todd and I were on the wrong side of a preverbial perfect game. This was not our best effort. An extra long chat about food forbodes the lack of intelligible baseball chatter to come. We botch names, carry on dialogues that are seemingly unrelated, and throw in the occassional awkward pause for good measure. It’s not pretty, but every prospect takes their lumps. We start off talking about all the big trades that went down. What does the David Price trade mean for his value? We discuss. Price vs Hamels. Price vs Cueto. Somehow we wander into alternative stat leagues, Dexter Fowler, then back to the trade world with Mat Latos. I could continue to give you the play by play, but then this blog post would be like a Fellini film. Some of the highlights include: “I really love guys named ‘Paco’.” “That’s Joc Pederson not Jace Pederson. awkward silence” (I confused Jose Peraza and Jace Pederson) “Who is the guy who hurt himself playing Guitar Hero?” “The love child of Fernando Rodney and KRod.” “Kang-am Style”, “Going, going, Kang!” “Do you think he moved his van?”, “I’d be terrified to live in a van in Detroit.” “I think that’s a lot of petina.” As always, check us out on Twitter @2020AllStars and iTunes. Season 3 Episode 21 (45:11)

There’s no doubt that the Red Sox need to improve their starting rotation this winter. The question is, “How should they go about doing it?” Alex says the club should avoid the free agent market, and target pitchers who may be available for trade. At least one – if not all – of Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Tyson Ross and Jeff Samardzija will be available this winter. The Red Sox would be better off acquiring a pitcher who’s just entering the prime of his career instead of one who is exiting his. One of the biggest takeaways of the postseason has been that money no longer buys wins in Major League Baseball. The Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Tigers and Angels spent more than $1.1 billion this season to win one playoff game combined. The tide is turning, and the proof is in the Royals and Orioles ALCS. Speaking of the ALCS, at least fans can find it. The same can’t be said for the NLCS, which will air on Fox Sports 1 this week. MLB continues to make its product inaccessible for fans. Unbelievable. Email Alex, ajreimer0@gmail.com, and follow him on Twitter, @AlexReimer1. Read Alex in the Boston Herald, on BostInno.com and listen to him Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. EST on Glenn Ordway’s “Big Show Unfiltered."

Alex interviews MLB.com Red Sox reporter Ian Browne, and they discuss the tone of the Red Sox's offseason thus far. Has too much importance been placed on the "Red Sox Nation" branding efforts? Are the Red Sox really serious about not bypassing the luxury tax, and if they are, how will they be able to do it? Alex and Ian also talk about the implications of David Ortiz accepting arbitration and whether Daniel Bard best fits in the rotation or the bullpen to begin 2012. Alex gives his own take on the Mark Melancon trade and Nick Punto signing...were these moves worth the wait? How else will the Red Sox look to round out their roster (more specifically, the end of the bullpen)? In the "Around the League" segment, Alex analyzes the Mat Latos trade and says that the Padres have quietly enjoyed a highly productive offseason. Jimmy Rollins resigning with the Phillies, Michael Cuddyer signing with the Rockies, and other offseason moves are touched upon too. Plus, Barry Bonds was "sentenced" this week. Except, it was more of a "tap on the wrist" more than anything... Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards where signing up is free, quick, and easy.
