Starkville | MLB Network Radio's Mike Ferrin joins the boys this week in Starkville. They discuss The Athletic's MLB All-Quarter Century Team piece that came out a few days ago. They talk about some of the big names that made and didn't make the team, should it be Jeter or A-Rod at SS, should Barry Bonds be on the team, who would be part of their pitching rotation and much more.Strange But True: An insane walk-off happens in the minor league between the Isotopes and the Reno Aces. This one is very crazyTrivia: Question from Adam Kane- Albert Pujols famously began his career with 10 consecutive seasons of 30 HR / 100 RBI / 0.300 BA, but within that stretch he had 4 consecutive seasons of 40/100/0.300. Can you name the 4 other players in history with 3 or more consecutive seasons reaching these milestones?Follow Jayson on Twitter: @jaysonstFollow Doug on Twitter: @DougGlanvilleHosts: Jayson Stark & Doug GlanvilleProducer: Brian Smith Hosted on Acast. The quote “I don't think about you at all” by Don Draper from Mad Men best describes the Diamondbacks relationship with their divisional foes the Colorado Rockies, yet these two teams are set to duke it out during MLB's Rivalry Weekend. Our friend Christian Saez from DNVR Rockies stops in to preview the series and tell us why Bud Black wasn't to blame for this team's failures. We also discuss Ketel Marte's power since returning from the IL, Corbin Carroll's fWAR numbers this season, and Yu Min Lin continuing to shove for the Reno Aces since his return. Also, is Devin Booker available as a designated hitter? Asking for a friend. Join Derek, Christian, and Kevin for the PHNX Diamondbacks Show LIVE! Our best Diehard deal! Just $3 A Month https://www.gophnx.com/intro-offer-youtube We aren't sure who to blame for the Diamondbacks 8-2 loss to the Braves on Friday night. The offense was missing in action, the defense from reliable position players like Eugenio Suarez and Geraldo Perdomo was atrocious, and Zac Gallen continues to be inconsistent on the mound this season. Our friend Jesse Friedman from Snakes Territory stops by to discuss if it's finally time for the D-backs to turn to Jordan Lawlar after his big night for the Reno Aces, Chase Field falling apart before our very eyes, and more! Reno is the smallest market in the United States to have a AAA Minor League Baseball team. Our Reno Aces, an affiliate team of the Arizona Diamondbacks, play 150 games every year- half of them at Greater Nevada Field in the heart of downtown Reno. On today's episode of Renoites, we're joined by the President of the Reno Aces, Eric Edelstein. Eric's career in minor league baseball management led him to the Biggest Little City over a decade ago, and on this episode he and Conor discuss his career path and what it looks like to be the president of a minor league baseball team, some of the benefits and challenges of the Reno market, the big dreams for the future of the Ballpark District as a destination neighborhood, and much more! Do you have thoughts, comments, questions, or just want to be "on the air" on a future episode of Renoites? This season, I'm hoping to do at least one "Listener Q&A" style episode. Send your comments or questions to conor@renoites.com or text 775-241-3597. Even better, record a voice note in the voice notes app on your phone and email it to conor@renoites.com so that I can play it on the show when I respond. Please consider supporting Renoites financially. This show is entirely listener supported and because it is a local show, I really rely on financial support from you, my neighbors. Be sure to check out the first episode of 2025 with one of our favorite people, Max Casper, the newly hired Head Groundskeeper of the Reno Aces. It was such a fantastic conversation about the exciting start in Max's new role and his aspirations for the future. He has a unique journey into the industry that shows how important mentorship is for those unaware of the sports field management industry. You do not want to miss this episode! Be sure to check out the Toro Booth at SFMA this year.
With Christian Walker set to reach free agency this offseason, the Diamondbacks will need to decide what to do at first base. One option that could make sense is bringing back old friend Paul Goldschmidt. We break down Goldschmidt's 2024 numbers, and the pros and cons of signing him. We are also joined by Reno Aces play-by-play broadcaster Nash Walker to talk D-backs prospects such as Adrian Del Castillo, Yu-Min Lin and Jordan Lawlar. Finally, we discuss Thursday's instant classic between the Guardians and Yankees, and the Dodgers beating up on the Mets yet again. Join Derek, Jesse and Kevin for the PHNX Diamondbacks Show LIVE!! Episode 260 features Mark Anderson, one half of the Grill Dad's discussing all things barbecue and grilling while Doug Scheiding joins us for additional "grilling" and Doug Kurkul discusses his latest book, It's a Beautiful Day for Baseball which explores the game and players from the 1960's. Mark Anderson is one half of the Grill Dad's. He previously joined us on episode 143 with the other Grill Dad, Ryan Fey. This time he is flying solo and he provides an update on the exciting things the Grill Dads have been up to as well as discussing many other grilling related items. They have made numerous television appearances, including Guy's Big Project, hosted by Guy Fieri and they starred in the primetime shows, The Grill Dads and Comfort Food Tour on the Food Network. They are also the authors of the cookbook, The Best Grilling Cookbook Ever Written By Two Idiots. Doug Scheiding adds his own special flair as we enjoy a grill filled discussion. Doug Kurkul has a day job, but it is his role as author that brings him to us as he discusses his latest tome, It's a Beautiful Day for Baseball which explores the game and players from the 1960's. The following fdescription taken from the book says it best. "Doug brings this memorable era to life, drawing on contemporary news accounts, player memoirs, as well as recent interviews with dozens of former players. The book provides an informative and amusing inside look at what it was like to be a major league ballplayer in the Sixties, making It's a Beautiful Day for Baseball the definitive 21st Century book on 1960s baseball. Doug is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research. In 2009, as CEO of the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, he collaborated with Pacific Coast League President, Branch Rickey III and Aces manager Brett Butler to welcome the Reno Aces as the PCL's newest team. Emily Jaenson's motto is “Be so good they won't forget you!” and she lives this motto each day in her work as a keynote speaker for companies and employee resource groups across the US teaching them to empower their confidence, achieve their biggest goals, and use their voice to make a difference for themselves and their communities. Jaenson leads a podcast, Leadership is Female, where she interviews executives so that she and her guests can lead the next generation of leadership forward. The show is in the Top 10% of most followed podcasts worldwide and Top 200 Business podcasts, globally. Emily's 2022 TEDx talk on confidence reached over 3 million views in one year. Emily speaks on the topic of confidence, goal setting, and intention to companies and organizations around the world. Emily Jaenson grew up in northern Illinois and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduating from the College of Media with a degree in Advertising. To pursue her dream of working in sports, Jaenson turned down an ad agency offer to intern with the Chicago Bulls ticket department where she sold season and group tickets during the 2005-2006 season. 80 calls a day, hitting the phones, to fill the United Center on game day truly taught her that the fans are the lifeblood of any sports organization and sales is the foundation of any business. Jaenson went on to work for Muscular Dystrophy Association in Chicago leading fundraising and partnership efforts across events, programs, and partnerships. She later ran a small marketing agency. In 2013 the Reno Aces, a Triple-A Minor League baseball team and affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, came calling where Jaenson grew from sponsorship account executive to Vice President in two years. In 2016 Jaenson left Reno with her family for Houston where she had a chance to volunteer for Super Bowl 51, worked as Sales Director on the World Corporate Games Houston and the inaugural Houston Sports Awards Show, and worked for Houston Methodist, the number one hospital in Texas, to manage business development through their sports partnerships. Emily returned to the Reno Aces to serve as General Manager in 2018-2022. Jaenson became the first female general manage in Triple-A Baseball in nearly 20 years. Above all, Emily is a devoted wife and adoring mother. She is an avid runner, wholeheartedly passionate about leadership, instilling confidence, and relentlessly seeking thrilling adventures. My Book! — Emily Jaenson - Keynote Speaker Emily Jaenson. The first female in almost 20 years to earn the role of GM in Triple A Baseball. I think I can just end the notes here with that sentence. But I will give you a preview of my incredible conversation with Emily: What goes into being a GM The most challenging part of leading a team and how she tackles it What four questions she asks her direct reports every week (so smart!) What her direct reports do well when they come to her Why she thought she was going to be a trainer (p.s. Representation Matters!) Why she took a step backwards to take a step forward in sports Why she made the decision to only take two weeks off for her maternity leave What happened on her first day back from maternity leave The story she tells that she says makes her sound crazy (I don't think so!)
