The man behind the dish for the Rays in 2024 is René Pinto. Pinto has been in the organization since he was 17 years old  in 2014. Without any major moves behind the plate except for Non-Roster invites like Rob Brantley or familiar face Francisco Mejia, the Rays seem almost bullish on Pinto becoming the starting catcher with ease. Is his power real? Can he work on the strikeout to walk ratio? Will Alex Jackson be his main counterpart? The Tampa Bay Rays are Cleveland Guardians south. They have nearly double-digit former Cleveland coaches and players on the roster. As a matter of fact, they have acquired the three central players from the Jonathan Lucroy deal. Yu Chang and Francisco Mejia were the big pieces but at the time Shawn Armstrong had pitched in the majors and had an ERA under two with a strikeout per nine over 15. The fourth player was Greg Allen. We revisit this trade since Armstrong picked up the loss and again the major pieces are all in Tampa. We also talk about the Miller deal as maybe the most successful player from both of those trades is JP Feyereisen who is also a pitcher for you guessed it Tampa.  We switched to a game with significant consequences but saw very little happen. Tampa Bay Rays have a magic number of one but lost two of three to Cleveland. I had predicted that Jeffrey Springs would be a hard matchup and he was, but Cal Quantrill was just as good. The Guardians rally late to win thanks to Will Brennan, Steven Kwan, and Oscar Gonzalez. We talk about the choice to walk Jose to face Oscar and why it was an odd choice. We end with some talk about the weird season flips for Bo Naylor and Bryan Lavastida. Bo is with the team on the taxi squad with a chance to be added before the end of the year. I wonder if Lavastida might be taken off the 40-man, and if they will promote yet another unicorn this year to the roster making rookie number 17. We then talk about how Steven Kwan still can't seem to get any respect. If one is talking about rookies in baseball and don't mention him then you are doing it wrong. There are a clear top four hitters and two pitchers and anyone not mentioning Kwan well I question their knowledge.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Indians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Indians

We finish off the why prospects fail series with a pair of players who still have a chance to turn things around. We lead off with Clint Frazier who has actually performed well in the majors but has struggled with defense, health, consistency, and chances. Next, we look at Francisco Mejia, and why his contact-only profile is something that I have never trusted. I explain why it is that guys like him and Ty Freeman I tend to be lower on than most. Mejia's defense along with having a single offensive tool has been why he has not been able to break through while playing the weakest position in baseball. Old friend alerts as several players are signing in the KBO, who have been extremely aggressive in terms of targeting American talent with major league experience. Adam Plutko and Yasiel Puig are the two newest names to sign in Korea.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Kevin and Ulises get off their proverbial vacation couches to record a bonus episode detailing the recent blockbuster trade that sent lefty ace Blake Snell to the San Diego Padres in return of four young players/prospects (RHPs Luis Patino and Cole Wilcox, catchers Francisco Mejia, Blake Hunt.) While the haul seems good for a few years from now, are the Rays still a playoff contender, or merely a plus-.500 team? (There'll be a whole lot of innings to fill in 2021, among other issues.) Jim Pete and Mike Hattery continue the 2018 Cleveland Indians positional previews by heading on over to first base. For the first time this decade, the Cleveland Indians will be without Carlos Santana in the lineup. Last season, after several years hopping around the diamond, Santana really found his groove as a gold glove worthy first baseman. Unfortunately, Santana found a new home in Philadelphia, to the tune of three years and $60 million. The Indians answered losing Santana by signing free agent Yonder Alonso, who is coming off a career year in which he came off of an American League All-Star performance, thanks to becoming a big believer in the fly ball revolution. The WFNY boys will discuss the impact of the loss of Santana, ponder Alonso as a full-time first baseman, and take a look at the potential platoon options, should Alonso dip in production. Could we see Yandy Diaz, Michael Brantley, Francisco Mejia or Jason Kipnis at first base? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In 2017, the big questions surrounding the catcher position was whether or not Roberto Perez could officially take over from Yan Gomes, who had struggled with injuries and offense over the previous two seasons. But Gomes managed to catch in 105 games, holding off Perez for another season. So, in 2018, the questions really haven't changed from last year. Can Gomes keep the job he recaptured in 2017? Will Roberto Perez finally take over, thanks to his defensive supremacy? Can the 50-50 tilt, teeter in one direction or another, or will both catchers split the duties again? Oh, and what about Francisco Mejia and Eric Haase, who both will likely find themselves either in Columbus, or Cleveland?
