There's an upcoming election in Australia, and housing will be a big issue. Show host Gene Tunny chats with Fusion Party candidate Owen Miller about Fusion's sweeping housing policy proposals. Topics include eliminating negative gearing, taxing capital gains on owner-occupied homes, and increasing public housing. They also discuss ideas like charter cities, high-speed rail, and a government-run real estate platform. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for Gene, please email him at contact@economicsexplored.com.About Owen MillerOwen Miller grew up in Sydney and has long been interested in science fiction, ultimately leading to the study of mechatronics (robotics & control systems) and computer science at the University of Sydney. After working in different software roles in Sydney and even dealing Blackjack for some months, Owen moved to Seattle to work on the recommender systems at Amazon. Owen later moved to New York and was involved in smaller startups, especially in hospitality. Although the start-ups didn't take off, this rite of passage involved less shielding from the real world and helped clarify the roles of the market and the state in the provision of essential aspects of life, such as software and social cooperation. In 2020, Owen started the Non-Human Party; a vision for an opt-in online nationality that would optimise the existence of robots and animals, in addition to humans.Upon moving to Melbourne in 2022, Owen became the Registered Officer of Fusion, with the hope of enabling Australia to reach its full potential as a wealthy, sustainable and harmonious paradise; a beacon for the rest of the world. He currently serves as Fusion's Convenor.Owen was Fusion's candidate for the 2023 Aston federal by-election.In 2024, he ran as a candidate for local council in Merri-bek (for the Bulleke-Bek ward). He will again be running as a federal candidate in 2025, this time in Wills. In 2024, Spotify classified Owen as belonging to the top 0.05% of Kylie Minogue fans.Source: https://www.fusionparty.org.au/owen_millerTimestampsIntroduction (0:00)Relationship Between Fusion Party and Pirate Party (3:07)Fusion Party's Housing Policy Goals (4:04)Comparisons with Other Countries and Tax Policy (6:19)Immigration and Housing Policy (9:09)Owner-Occupier Capital Gains Tax and Land Tax (12:53)Renter's Rights and Social Housing (17:16)Supply-Side Housing Policies (27:49)Liberté Account and Open Source Real Estate Listings (38:24)Final Thoughts and Wrap-Up (51:02)TakeawaysTax reform is central to Fusion's housing strategy — They propose reducing capital gains tax discounts and phasing in land tax for all properties, including owner-occupied homes.Fusion supports a major investment in social housing — Advocating a jump from 3.2% to 10% of housing stock as public housing.Tenant rights need an upgrade — Fusion argues for banning no-fault evictions and establishing minimum standards like clean air and energy efficiency.Livret A accounts could revolutionize infrastructure funding — A French-style citizen savings bond to fund high-speed rail and public housing projects.Urban sprawl isn't the answer — Fusion favors infill development and transport-driven decentralization over expanding city fringes.Links relevant to the conversationFusion's housing policy:https://www.fusionparty.org.au/housing_as_a_homeLumo Coffee promotion10% of Lumo Coffee's Seriously Healthy Organic Coffee.Website: https://www.lumocoffee.com/10EXPLOREDPromo code: 10EXPLORED Full transcripts are available a few days after the episode is first published at www.economicsexplored.com.

Is he an indication of further Rockies' offseason plans or is he just another depth acquisition the team hopes can contribute in some manner? Skyler then looks over the Rockies' potential free agent targets and wishlist while breaking down The Denver Posts assessment that the Rockies aren't cheap, but spend their money quite foolishly. Beginning only five years after the end of World War Two, the Korean War was an exceptionally violent conflict which led to the death of at least 2.5 million people. It became the most deadly conflict of the Cold War era, a political battle of capitalism versus communism, that almost triggered World War Three. But how was this war encouraged by American, Soviet, European, and Chinese ambitions? Was anything really achieved by the years of fighting? And what was the true aftermath of the conflict, both locally, and for the world at large? This is a Short History Of the Korean War. Written by Lindsay Galvin. For the first time since 2018 the Brewers swept the Cardinals after winning 2-0 today. Collin Rea pitched five scoreless innings and Bryan Hudson earned his first career victory in the win. It was a pitchers duo until the seventh inning when Owen Miller hit a 2 RBI single for his first hit of the season. That is all the Brewers needed as they slammed the door shut following those runs. Dominic Cotroneo discussed the win during Brewers Extra Innings.

Sounds manager Rick Sweet joins Jeff Hem for his weekly Sunday pregame show conversation and discusses the team's first two games of the season in Toledo, the Opening Day injury to young catcher Jeferson Quero, the offense from Tyler Black, Owen Miller and Joey Wiemer, and seeing former Sound Keston Hiura playing for Toledo.
Season 1 of “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” concludes with a band in flux. The Beatles had evolved significantly by 1968 from when they first released “Love Me Do.” Back then, they were only competing with the likes of Andy Williams, Little Stevie Wonder, and Peter Paul and Mary. But by the recording of the “White Album" The Beatles were up against acts on the charts with a more hard driving sound like Cream, The Who, and Sly and the Family Stone. Paul McCartney sensed an opportunity to jump into the fray himself and wrote a song that many consider to be the genesis of the hard rock and metal genres. “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries. The series was produced by Pejk Malinovski and Sara McCrea; written by Sara McCrea; edited by Dan O'Donnell and Sophie Crane; mastered by Jason Gambrell with sound design by Pejk Malinovski. A scary injury to Willy Adames and a bad weekend series against San Francisco clouded a week that nonetheless ended with the Brewers still clinging to first place in the National League Central. Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak and host JR Radcliffe discuss the fallout of losing Adames in such a scary manner. It's the latest injury for the team to navigate, though the team's starting-pitching depth had a good week (we didn't even mention Julio Teheran!). Jesse Winker's struggles have become one of the toughest things for the offense to overcome. Ken Rosenthal said earlier in the week that Corbin Burnes might be the top pitcher available on the trade market; does that sound plausible? Plus, a Remembrew When that looks back at a swift and memorable doubleheader in 1971. Then, JR sits down with one of the hottest hitters in the league, Milwaukee native Owen Miller, who talks about his memories at Miller Park, the surging Wisconsin baseball scene and his role as an opponent in an unforgettable Brewers moment two years ago. Tapping The Keg podcast is back at it with discussions about the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Milwaukee Bucks Before the topics get going, the boys have a long conversation about the NBA Playoffs and the potential nightmare of the Boston Celtics coming back from being down 3-0. Topic 1: Charlie & Mitch get into talking about the pressure that Jordan Love is under to start the year based on Dan Orlovsky's comments. The boys don't see it. Topic 2: They dive into what's going on with Corbin Burnes and why it's not just this year. They also talk about the biggest surprises in the month of May including the legend Owen Miller. Topic 3: They end the show talking about if the Milwaukee Bucks should still be considered the favorites in the East despite bouncing out early. Charlie & Mitch explains why they think that's the case.
The Brewers go 2-4 on a tough road trip and dig out the two wins thanks to some big-time work from Devin Williams and the relief crew. It's the latest in a tough run for the Brewers, who have now lost five of the last six series and seven of the last nine. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look at the dearth of difference-makers and if there are any moves that can realistically ease the burden, the latest injury setbacks (Wade Miley, Luke Voit) and the struggles of Willy Adames (although Sunday turned out to be a great day). It's going to be the Brewers vs. the Cardinals for a playoff spot again, isn't it? Does the addition of Darin Ruf mean Luke Voit's roster spot is in jeopardy? Owen Miller is on fire. Is there any scenario where Jackson Chourio gets to the big leagues in 2023? Plus, a Remembrew When that looks back at the most famous dropped ball in Brewers history. Then, JR is joined by Bally Sports Wisconsin broadcaster Sophia Minnaert, in her 11th year working games for Bally Sports Wisconsin. They chat about her media background, where her renown Spanish skills come from and what makes the baseball gig so special. Music intro: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music. Christian Yelich closed the week with three home runs in two games; do we dare ask if he's 'back?' OK, not yet, but Milwaukee's left fielder showed some positive signs. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look at the big weeks from him, Joey Wiemer and Owen Miller and the continued slow starts from Jesse Winker, Eric Lauer, Luke Voit and more. Plus: Star Wars Night, AppleTV and a Dodgers reporter's slide mishap all make 3 Up 3 Down, with a Remembrew When looking back at perhaps the most famous Mother's Day game in MLB history.
