While the Democratic Party is in the doldrums, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders are packing arenas and electrifying crowds with a clear message of opposition to greed and corruption. On this episode, host and editor-in-chief Radhika Jones, along with executive editor Claire Howorth and Hive editor Michael Calderone, discuss the 35-year-old Congresswoman's political skills, social media prowess, and ability to persevere in the face of right-wing media mockery and violent threats. It's timeeeeeeeeee!!!! Today I'm joined by contributing editor at Vogue and freelance journalist, Michelle Ruiz, to recap the movie adaptation of our shared favourite book, Robinne Lee's “The Idea Of You”. I first heard of Michelle when she wrote an article for Vogue back in 2020 about my favourite book. Since then, we've both been anxiously awaiting the release of the book's screen adaptation, a movie now available to stream on Prime Video starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, and directed by Michael Showalter. I am THRILLED to have Michelle on the show today to dive deep into both of our POVs on this adaptation. As (very) passionate fans of the book, you can imagine we have some critiques. However, what we can say, is that you have never listened to a more comprehensive review of a book to screen adaptation EVER!! Both of us would love to keep the conversation going, and are looking forward to your thoughts! Please, please, please chime into the conversation below - and share your perspective on the adaptation. We can't wait to hear what you think, too! ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡About Get Lit With Lianna: The PodcastJoin Instagram book content creator @getlitwithlianna as she sits down with a different guest author to chat about their books, writing career, and everything in between! Welcome back to another season of Moneda Moves mi gente. This season we are talking about food: It makes the world go round. Some might say food is everything we are: An extension of our regions, our tribes, to paraphrase the late chef and journalist Anthony Bourdain. But it's also an interesting business opportunity. Last year, venture capitalists invested more than $20 billion in this space even after economic conditions had tightened. And as we know on this podcast, Latinos (alongside people of color) are among the biggest creators of business in this country. Throughout this season, Moneda Moves is bringing funders investing in the future of food and founders paving the way for intimate conversations on how they invest, fundraise and build truly scalable companies. Our panel today is from our first live event in Chicago, where we have founders from the consumer packaged goods space to the food tech space. On the mics we have Perteet Spencer, Founder of AYO Foods, who launched the company to celebrate ingredients, flavors and culture of West African diaspora. We also have Michelle Ruiz, founder of food tech company Hyfe, who brings more than ten years of manufacturing experience from the likes of Exxon Mobile. Also joining us is Shayna Harris, managing partner of Supply Change Capital, investing in early stage, high growth food tech businesses and culture-first brands. Shayna has more than two decades of experience as a food industry leader and operator. She and her co-founder Noramay Cadena just closed a $40 million fund. Congratulations! A trifecta of women that are joining us in our conversation today to talk about what the future of food looks like, from both a funding and scalability perspective. Finally, a shout to our collaborators who helped put on our first live podcast event, DishRoulette Kitchen, a nonprofit working to provide funding and education for BIPOC restarateurs across Chicago, and Industrious where the event was hosted. Let's dive in. Welcome to Funding the Future of Food. Michelle Ruiz Kiel's modern stories with mythic sensibilities are some of my favorites. She is someone I wanted to have on the podcast for a long time. I think it started when I heard her panel on modern fairy tales at the ALA Midwinter conference in Seattle a few years ago. I wanted to bring her on and ask her all about writing mythology, magical realism, and modern fairytales.Michelle join me to talk about all things mythology, storytelling, and her new novel SUMMER IN THE CITY OF ROSES. Michelle shares her academic and career exploration journey as a first-generation college student. We discuss the dilemma that many students face when choosing their major - finding your true passion vs. pursuing a major so you can get a job, pay bills and provide for the family, and how first-gen college identity plays into it. Sharing photos on social media without permission? You’d probably never do that when it comes to posting pictures of a friend, but every day parents share pictures and videos of their kids on social media. Instagram and Facebook have become our de facto online family albums. Many mom (and dad) bloggers have built brands and businesses around the (mostly) honest and authentic stories involving raising their kids. But what happens when these kids become tweens and teens? How can we teach our children not to share revealing photos or overshare when some parents have been sharing photos since their babies were still in the womb? This week on the Parenting Bytes Podcast we tackle the issue of sharing (and oversharing) photos and stories of our children without their permission. Michelle Ruiz of Vogue.com joins us to talk about her article, “The One Question Parents Should Ask Themselves Before Posting Their Kids on Social Media.” Join us as we talk about our own uncomfortable experiences with our kids reading and watching what we’ve written about them, and how parents can be more careful about what they’re sharing on social media.
