Two days before Emilly Johnston won the Argentario instalment of the Internazionali d'Italia Series, she chatted about all the new changes that have occurred in the past seven months. As the 2024 mountain bike world championships began at the end of this past August, Johnston signed with the team she'd race with in 2025, Scott-SRAM MTB Racing, the squad of Nino Schurter and Filippo Colombo. The two-year contract came just as the rider from Vancouver Island's Comox Valley was nearing the end of her final under-23 season. Her first year in the elite level would truly be with the elites of the sport.Johnston covers a wide range of topics In this in-depth interview. How had the geography of her home region shaped her as a rider? Why did she do a cool trick in a high-stakes race? Does she tie her own flies for fishing? Johnston talks about some of the people who've had a big effect on her career, including an innovative bike builder on Quadra Island. She shares her insights about the current state of Canadian women's cross country mountain biking and how, in a sense, she has two lives: a European one and a Comox Valley one. Also in this episode of the Canadian Cycling Magazine Podcast, editor Matthew Pioro and writer Jake Williams chat about recent races. Milan-San Remo, men's and women's, were stunning events. XC racers had many successes in the UC Cup races in Fayetteville, Ark. Gent-Wevelgem is coming up. It's a race that Williams, a Luca Paolini doppelganger, has a particular fondness for.For more on one of Johnston's cycling influences, head to the podcast's back catalogue. In August 2020, two-time world champion Catharine Pendrel was featured. The episode, quite rightly, is titled “Catharine Pendrel is awesome.” Check it out.

Emilly Johnston was wondering if she was going to have a team for her first Elite season when she got a call from Scott-SRAM team director Thomas Frischknecht. Shortly after she signed a contract with the team, she placed third at Worlds, rounding out a triumphant 2024 season that marked her as one of the most promising up-and-comers in the women's field. Emilly sat down with Payson in Girona earlier this week to talk about landing a spot on her dream team, the chaos of racing last year's combined U23 and Elite World Championship, and throwing down tricks mid-race. She also talks about sharing an apartment with two of cycling's most fashion-forward men (longtime teammate Bjorn Riley and XC photographer Piper Albrecht), and why they describe her first and foremost as “very Canadian.”Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen

In the Xinjiang region of western China, the government has rounded up and detained hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and other Muslim ethnic groups. Many haven't been heard from in years, and more still are desperately searching for their families. Western governments have called this crackdown a cultural genocide and a possible crime against humanity. In this episode, the first of a three-part series from Embedded, NPR correspondent Emily Feng tells the story of one of those people. For years, a Uyghur man named Abdullatif Kucar had no idea what has happened to his wife and young children after they were detained by Chinese authorities. Emilly follows Kucar as he desperately searches for his family. But this story is bigger than one family. In this series, Emily also travels across Asia and dives into decades of history to uncover the massive Chinese surveillance of Uyghurs, getting exclusive interviews with the people suffering from that surveillance and the people upholding it – who sometimes are one and the same. This episode was originally published in 2022. Have you gotten stuck trying to decide what to include in your subscription box? You want to give your subscribers everything they could possibly want - but you know it's not possible to do that and stay profitable. It is so easy for new subscription box owners to overthink everything and end up overwhelmed. One subscription box owner decided to keep things simple - really simple - and now has more than 500 monthly subscribers!  Meet Launch Your Box member Emily Vincent of The Polka Dot Poodle. Emily is creative and fun and loves to give gifts. She doesn't just “give” gifts, though - she presents them in a way that makes them seem personal and extra special. Emily is passionate about gift-giving and adding the special touches that take a gift and turn it into an experience for the recipient.  When Emily first started her business, she was creating all the things. She and I share a love for monograms and she was creating and monogramming products for her many customers. But she quickly found that creating the same item over and over again didn't bring her joy. When she examined what she loved about her business, she realized what she really loved was designing gift tags for people to give the items she made as gifts.  So Emily decided to focus on just that. Gift tags. She started a digital subscription where subscribers receive a digital file with that month's designs and print them themselves. How easy is that?! No printing, no packing, no shipping. Emily's workload is the same whether she has 10 subscribers or hundreds.  Emily soon realized that some of her subscribers wanted to receive the gift tags already printed and ready to go. They wanted her to make things even easier and more convenient for them. She was happy to oblige and started another version of her subscription. For these subscribers, Emilly prints the physical gift tags and ships them - just the tags - to her subscribers. Still simple and easy to fulfill.  Because Emily likes to serve her audience, she recently added another subscription. This one is more custom, more personalized, and more labor-intensive. And yes, it involves monograms. But Emily loves it and so do her subscribers. And she is careful not to take on more subscribers than she can comfortably handle.  When Emily started her first subscription, she had 37 subscribers. That number has grown to more than 500 subscribers. 500 people who receive gift tags designed by Emily every month.  Gift tags. How simple is that?  Emily's advice to anyone thinking about starting a subscription box? Just start. Develop your idea, create a landing page, grow your email list and social media followers, and just start. She promises it will be worth it.  Join me for this episode and learn how Emily found subscription box success by focusing on what she loves to do and keeping things simple. Breaking Down Patriarchy

Most of us would love to have a perfect memory, but we often fall far short of this aspiration. Who hasn't forgotten someone's name right after being introduced, or failed to remember where you left your car in the parking lot? Our memories are rarely as reliable as we'd like them to be. And more so, our memories – even some of our most formative ones – can alter over time. Like a game of telephone, each time we return to a memory it can change ever so slightly until the story in our mind — while it may reflect a personal truth — is suddenly far from the facts of the lived reality. Memory is ephemeral, ever-shifting, and foundational to the ways we understand our worlds and ourselves. In this episode, we explore the phenomena of memory with two outstanding guests -- Emilly Prado and an Anonymous Contributor -- discussing and exploring the influence of patriarchy along the way. Emilly Giselle Prado (she/her) is a writer, DJ, and educator living in Portland, Oregon with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area and Michoacán, Mexico. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/moveleitor/message

Emilly's grief journey started six years ago when her Dad had a stroke and brain aneurism in July 2014. Similar to most people who experience grief, it was the result of losing a loved one but the punch line here is... he is still alive. Emilly is grateful everyday that her father survived his accident, but the parts that made him "him" did not. Her Dad is now mentally and physically disabled; battling everyday with PTSD, dementia, depression and chronic anxiety. Disassociated from reality. For her family, Emilly's father died in July 2014 but he also is alive. The very definition of grief is "intense sorrow, especially caused by someone's death." Emilly's unique situation has found herself & her family challenging the idea of death entirely and the societal perception of it. In this conversation we chat about: - Disenfranchised grief and how it impacts you - Grieving a person who is still here - Gaining a new perspective - Not letting it define you - Mental disabilities - Framing pain with humour and so much more! As a mother to a highly sensitive little boy, I know what it means to parent a child who does not fit into the ‘box’ modern society has put children into. My mission is to help other parents of “that kid”  feel less alone, more confident and more equipped by asking the tough questions to the professionals, gathering tools and resources and connecting with other moms who are wrestling with the same struggles. If recording my journey as I seek a clear starting point, community and effort to normalize a life with a highly emotional, sometimes out of control child, supports at least one parent, then my time is not wasted. And if it doesn’t well, there’s documented proof that moms deserve a glass of wine. Cheers Thanks for listening! It means so much to us that you listened to our podcast! How can writers better translate their work for varied genres and audiences? How are Black and Brown artists challenging the presumed whiteness of particular cities and spaces? What kind of world would be possible if everyone had the time and resources to pursue creative projects? In episode 94 of the Imagine Otherwise podcast, host Cathy Hannabach interviews journalist and educator Emilly Prado about the complicated politics of assimilation, how to shift your voice when writing across genres and formats, the ways Latinx DJs are cultivating new music spaces, and why documenting the vibrant Black and Brown arts and activist scenes in Portland is how Emilly imagines otherwise. Desculpem-me, followers surdos. :(   -------------------- Bibliografia consultada: BRUNO, Giuliana. Atlas of E-motion: journeys in art, architecture and film. ISBN 9781786633224 SPINOZA, Benedictus de.  Ética. Belo Horizonte: Autêntica Editora, 2007.  ISBN 9788575262498 -------------------- Créditos do episódio: imagem:  frame do episódio do BBB19, 9 de fev., fair use cc Rede Globo.   áudio:  cdk - Sunday by Analog By Nature (c) copyright 2016 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/cdk/53755 Carosone - The Gigolo Song (cdk Remix) by Analog By Nature (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/cdk/52193 Ft: Carosone Intergalactic Bliss (Trance Mix) by KCentric (c) copyright 2014 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/kcentric/48165 Sistatrix by Skill_Borrower (c) copyright 2013 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/Skill_Borrower/41694 Ft: doxent, Jeris, Robbero, theod, hansatom, rastilo
