OPÉ has had a love for fashion ever since she was a child. She has been drawing clothes since she could hold a pencil.Born in St. Louis, MO. to Nigerian parents, Opé was able to see Nigeria for the first time as a teenager attending high school there. She later had an epiphany that she enjoyed doing this and worked as a stylist assistant for a year and a half after her discovery. Years later, she blossomed into freelance fashion styling.Notable Magazine clients like Italian Vogue Curvy, Elle, Zink, People and Blink.Welcome to Culture Factor Ope!Your work is so dynamic, from magazine covers to fashion styling direction with Waterford Crystal, Philip Lim, Tahari, Moncler, Vera Wang, Antik Batik, and Mimi Plange. We need to dish a bit why I reached out besides metaverse, Mimi Plange!!How would you define your style?Fashion Design and Styling in Web 2, what are you immersed in?Fashion Design and Styling in Web 3 ( how is it different)Metaverse building, what platforms are you buying parcels in and setting up e-commerce ?Do you have to use an oculus to work and play in Decentraland?Wearables, what are you working on and what programs do you use to create them as NFTS?3D printed items, can you use the jpeg to have jewelry or accessories recreated as NFTS or do you need different software to convert them to something else that effectively allows for adding it to clothing or digital representations of people in the Metaverse? Can you use a 3D scanner on actual jewelry or accessories to create the right file type to make into NFT for Wearables? What is your dream project? What is Ope style Lab and where do you see it in 5 years?Want to listen to the episode with Mimi Plange? Mimi Plange is an award-winning fashion designer who launched her own ready-to-wear label in 2010, after a decade working in the New York fashion industry. Guided by the principle she refers to as “The Democratization of Luxury”, she creates clothes that are very much inspired by the modern American luxury sportswear tradition, with an infusion of dark romance and aimed at the new, international and democratically-minded consumer. Africa remains a limitless font of inspiration for the Ghanaian-born designer, who constantly seeks out the unusual and the lyrical found in African traditions, landscapes and lore, and reinterprets these themes in a refreshingly modern way. In an industry known for catering to insiders and the rarified realms of society, it's always refreshing to learn from a total fashion outsider who's created her own fashion success story through sheer belief, determination and, of course, deft skill. Listen to the show for this female entrepreneur's journey from architecture to fast fashion to achieving ridiculously cool things moments like seeing her made in the USA clothes on Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Rihanna, Viola Davis and many more similarly archetypal women of our time -- all while designing outside fashion's typical formulas and drawing inspiration from such disparate sources as African scarification rituals, color-drenched prints, vintage shapes (be on the lookout for new eyewear coming soon) and the AI-powered digital influencers of the future. Of course, it should come as no surprise that a FEST founder who can pull that off has many more goals in mind. Meet this week's guest, Mimi Plange, Founder of Mimi Plange. Sign up for the PressDope weekly email to get DIY PR tips and The Dope List of media opps, calls for pitches, FEST events and more ways to raise your visibility. What you'll learn The life of a fashion designer isn't all glitz and glamour. Mimi Plange has had to go through various different occupations to figure out how to run her own line. She says even though she thought some of her earlier jobs weren't related to fashion, in the end, those experiences still ended up helping her as a designer, especially when it came to the business end of her brand. How you'll be inspired Never doubt the power of belief. Fashion was such a huge influence on Mimi growing up that, as she recalls in this episode, she'd event test herself by guessing the designer behind clothes she saw in magazines based on the look alone. Despite people discouraging her from a career in fashion along the way, she knew she was going to find her way into being a designer - and she did. What you'll tell your friends Um, how ridiculously humble and down-to-earth is that designer Mimi Plange who was on the Spirit of 608 podcast this week? I mean, her clothes have been on Michelle Obama and Rihanna. But she'd rather tell you about the way fashion and clothes can change your life and the new digital avatar she's working on to showcase her brand.
