What is paramedical tattooing and scar camouflage and how is it different than other treatments for self-injury scars? Not everyone with lived experience of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) wants or needs to address self-harm scars, but some may choose to reduce or get rid of them as part of their recovery journey. Elena from Illusions by Ink Studio (https://illusionsbyinkstudio.com/) walks us through her approach to paramedical tattooing for self-injury. Her client "H" joins the conversation, sharing her experience as someone with lived experience of NSSI and why she chose this type of tattooing for her self-injury scars.Connect with Elena on Instagram @illusionsbyink_studio, on Facebook here, and on YouTube @Scarcamouflagetattoo. Le musée Barbier-Mueller consacre sa dernière exposition à la scarification. The post La scarification version Barbier-Mueller first appeared on Radio Vostok.

My final episode of 2022 is all about Scarification. Kevin Jump came on for episode 146 and we did a show called "keep piercing sacred". Kevin is a skilled scarification artist and while we were in Germany teaching a scar class together I thought we should record "keep scarification special". Scarification has changed a lot for me over the 20 years I have offered it. We share our thoughts on what keeps us motivated, and what does not. Enjoy. Check out the content available at www.patreon.com/ryanpba. Aside from my narrated videos about piercing methods I also have some webinars and lectures, including two lectures about scarification. You can also find info about all of my upcoming classes at www.ryanpba.com. See you in 2023.
Remember the natural regeneration triangle? Natural regeneration needs a seed supply, an environment conducive to seed germination, and a suitable seedbed. But sometimes it's difficult to get the right seedbed, especially when natural disturbances such as fire are lacking. Luckily foresters have another tool at their disposal: mechanical scarification. In this episode we dig deep into the topic of mechanical scarification with insights from Douglas County (Wis.) forester Craig Golembiewski and Clark County (Wis.) forester John Wendorski. To earn CEU/CFE credits, learn more, or interact with SilviCast, visit the episode webpage.

There are several different methods of Extraction and in this video, we will cover 3 of them. Steam Distillation Steam Distillation is the most popular method used to extract and isolate essential oils from plants for use in natural products. This happens when the steam vaporises the plant material's volatile compounds, which eventually go through a condensation and collection process. Steam Distillation Process A large container called a Still, usually made of stainless steel, contains the plant material and has steam added to it. Through an inlet, steam is injected through the plant material containing the desired oils, releasing the plant's aromatic molecules and turning them into vapour. The vaporized plant compounds travel to the condensation flask or the Condenser. Here, two separate pipes make it possible for hot water to exit and for cold water to enter the Condenser. This makes the vapor cool back into liquid form. The aromatic liquid by-product drops from the Condenser and collects inside a receptacle underneath it, which is called a Separator. Because water and oil do not mix, the essential oil floats on top of the water. From here, it is siphoned off. (Some essential oils are heavier than water, such as clove essential oil, so they are found at the bottom of the Separator.) Cold Compression This method is also called Cold Press, Expression or Scarification and it is used specifically for citrus peels. Cold Press Process The whole fruit is placed in a device that mechanically pierces it to rupture the essential oil sacs, which are located on the underside of the rind. The essential oil and pigments run down into the device's collection area. The whole fruit is pressed to squeeze out the juice and the oil. The oil and juice that are produced still contain solids from the fruits, such as the peel, and must be centrifuged to filter the solids from the liquids The oil separates from the juice layer and is siphoned off into another receptacle. C02 Extraction C02 is colourless, odourless, and can be easily and completely removed by releasing the pressure in the extraction chamber. This absence of potentially harmful solvents in C02 extraction means neither the human body nor the environment is polluted. C02 Extraction Process Pressurised carbon dioxide becomes liquid while remaining in a gaseous state, which means it is now "supercritical." In this state, it is pumped into a chamber filled with plant matter. Because of the liquid properties of the gas, the CO2 functions as a solvent on the natural plant matter, pulling the oils and other substances such as pigment and resin from the plant matter. The essential oil content then dissolves into the liquid CO2 The CO2 is brought back to natural pressure and evaporates back into its gaseous state, while what is left is the resulting oil. To learn more about essential oils make sure you check out our other videos. Thanks for joining us on today's episode, we hope you learned something new. Growing your own plants from seeds is one of the most gratifying experiences in the garden. Watching a tiny seed become a full-grown plant just gives you the most amazing feeling as a plant parent. However, seed starting is a whole different science and practice on its own and requires special soil, different care, grow lights and water monitoring, and interesting practices to make sure that your seeds actually sprout: seed scarification is one of those practices that may seem intimidating, but takes your seed starting game into a whole different level. If you've heard gardeners talk about seed starting you've probably heard the words scarification and stratification so I thought I would put into simple terms exactly what that means.
There are things we can do with dormant seeds to prod them along and get them to germinate. One of the most important for gardeners is scarification.NEW FROM Empress of Dirt: What to Prune in Winter

Bear with me if you assume this is going to a vapid celebrity obsession piece (even if it were, everyone has a right to do and feel whatever they like when it comes to celebrities!). Welcome to Episode 4! In this episode we discuss why it is important to understand the history of tattoo and other body modification practices, the science relating to why we might do such things to ourselves and our offspring and how we, as modern body modification practitioners and participants are missing out on the benefits of these practices. This is a bit of a rambling conversation and we do cover a broad spectrum of thoughts and topics. There is more foul language in this one, so make sure to be aware of who is around when you're listening… probably NSFW or around kiddos.Thank you for your continued support! Please let us know if you have any feedback (positive or otherwise). We appreciate that you take the time out of your day to listen to us ramble about something we are so passionate about!Show notes:Delio, Michelle, Tattoo: The Exotic Art of Skin Decoration, 1994.Stevens, John, “Tattooed Buddha,” Yoga Journal, March/April 1992Garve R. I was invited to speak at an event called SCARRED by MAE-Africa.org recently. The event focused on cultural body art practices in Africa, mainly body painting and scarification. While I was there I sat down with the event's organizer MAE Africa founder Temi Fet'era. We discussed scarification from both a cultural perspective and from that of a contemporary practitioner, as well as MAE Africa's efforts to document and preserve these practices. From The Spruce.com: Not all plant seeds are ready to sprout as soon as you put them in the soil. Some hard-shelled seeds need a bit more coaxing and some need a temperature change to trigger the end of dormancy. Scarification (cracking the hard outer shell) and stratification (fooling seeds into thinking they've been through winter) are two simple techniques that will save you a lot of frustration when starting seeds. Stratification and scarification occur naturally when seeds stay outdoors through the cold winter. Some seeds have outer shells that are extremely hard and don’t allow water through. This is one way a seed stays dormant in the fall and winter until growing conditions improve. You may be upset when you look for your efforts to bear fruit and you can't see the evidence above ground. Sometimes the action is not visible, you may be in a dormant phase in preparation for your growing season. Not all seeds are ready to sprout as soon as you put them into the soil. You may look at what other people are doing and try to mimic their path not knowing that you're a different kind of plant that requires a different set of conditions and will develop on a different timeline. Don't judge the progress of the apple tree with the same criteria you use to measure an oak tree. All seeds are not the same. You're maturing and preparing to sprout, blossom and bear fruit in your own time. *** I welcome you to apply for the opportunity to work together in Package Your Genius Academy this fall as our enrollment season comes to a close. PLANT OF THE WEEK Parachidendron pruinosum: Snow Wood Tree. There are some plants, be it trees, shrubs, perennials or annuals, which don't make it into the mainstream of plant shops, not even online. Whether it's because people aren't aware of its existence or because it's hard to propagate in large number, the fact remains, it's just not out there. But there are plenty of good reasons why you should grow a Snow Wood. Snow Wood fruits after opening. Let's find out I'm talking with new contributor, to "plant of the week" segment, Adrian O'Malley, horticulturist and native plant expert. The fragrant flowers are pom-pom like heads, greenish-white or golden yellow and darkening with age. Flowering time is October to January. The fruit pod matures from February to June . Fruit pods are very attractive, twisting when they split open to reveal black shiny large seeds and look a bit like acacia fruit pods. Seeds are black, shiny and mostly flat, oval in shape. Germination tip:Scarification of the seeds helps germination, which is slow but fairly reliable. Seen in RBG Sydney near the Moor building. Pararchidendron pruinosum is an Australian rainforest tree naturally occuring from the Shoalhaven River in New South Wales to Herberton in north Queensland. Also found in New Guinea and Indonesia. If you have any questions for me or for Adrian or would like some seeds of this tree, please write in to realworldgardener@gmail.com

We can view the obstacles we come up against on our Hero's Journey towards the manifestation of our dreams just like a seed that is banged around on rocks in the river. The banging around is necessary for the seed to lose its tough outer shell in order to germinate. This process with seeds is called "scarification". Another method of seed scarification is fire. The Sequoia tree requires fire to release the seeds from its cones and the opening of the canopy that the fire creates also helps the seedlings grow. For some of us, the bad things that happen to us in life are the things that had to happen to break us open to our deeper purpose. "Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The seeds of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying germination." - Wikipedia Martin Heavy Head on Twitter @mheavyhead I HAVE DREAMS DAMMIT! Please enjoy again: T is for Tattoo. Welcome to the A to Z of Sex. I'm Dr Lori Beth and I am your host. We are working our way through the erotic alphabet one letter at a time. Just a reminder this podcast deals with adult content, so if you don't have total privacy, you might want to put on your headphones. Today the letter is T and T is for Tattoo and Scarification Trigger warning: I am going to talk about branding later in the show. The word tattoo comes from the Tahitian ‘tatu' which means ‘to mark something'. Tattooing has existed since Neolithic times. We know this because of the ancient art that has been discovered, mummified – yes mummified skin, and the archeological record. In fact even older tattoo tools and art has been found which suggests tattooing started in the upper paleolithic time in Europe but we don't have the evidence on skin until the 4th millennium (4000) BC. Ötzi the Iceman (dated between 3370 and 3100 BC) is the oldest example of tattooing on mummified skin. Tattooed mummies have been recovered from at least another 49 sites throughout the world. Locations include: Alaska, Greenland, Siberia, China, Mongolia, Philippines, Egypt, Sudan, the Andes. Tattooing has been used to identify criminals and describe their crimes in a number of cultures including Chinese, Greek and Roman. Tattooing by the Nazis was done as a means of humiliating, dehumanising and identifying the Jews, homosexuals and Gypsies sent to the death camps. Tattooing has been used for religious and spiritual reasons in tribal cultures, Hindu, Egypt, Syria, Japan (including the native Aïnu people), Copts, Thailand, Celts. Many people from modern spiritual subcultures (pagan, western magicians for example) tattoo for spiritual purposes as well. All tattooing is painful. Some more painful than others. For many cultures, tattooing was, and still is, a rite of passage rather than just marking a rite of passage. In a variety of cultures, large tattoos marked the move from adolescence to adulthood. In modern culture, many people now observe this tradition and tattoo to mark rites of passage and honour ancestors. So what does tattooing have to do with sex you ask? Lots! Ask any person who has been tattooed for more than 15 or 20 minutes, and you will be told that at some point in the painful process, they began to feel high. Endorphins and adrenalin are released when a person is being tattooed. For people who are masochistic (gain pleasure from some types of pain), this high can also include sexual arousal. Tattoos are used in some parts of the BDSM subculture as marks of ownership. Submissives or slaves may be tattooed with the mark of their dominants or masters. Research done by at a university in Poland in 2017 surveyed 2369 women and 215 men. They showed them images of tattooed and non-tattooed men to figure out whether people found tattoos more attractive. They discovered that tattoos didn't increase attractiveness for the women but women did see the tattooed men as more dominant, and masculine. For the men, tattoos did increase attractiveness. Tattoos have become more mainstream since the 1990s and now many people see them as sexy. There is lots of variation as to how many tattoos and where they are placed. Women are still more negatively judged than men with tattoos, but mainstream culture has grown to embrace tattoos. There is still a stereotype that suggests tattooed women are more promiscuous so men are more likely to approach them for sex. In sexual subcultures, tattoos are more appreciated. Beauty is defined differently than in the mainstream culture and this is where tattoos really shine when it comes to attracting positive sexual attention. Women who have tattoos are seen to be more creative which suggests the possibility of creativity with sex. You have to be able to withstand pain in order to be tattooed. And...
