Bruce Handys tekst i The New Yorker kan du lese her.Philip Nels blogg-innlegg kan du lese her.

In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2017 Blue Sky Studios animated film Ferdinand based on the 1936 children's book Ferdinand the Bull by Munro Leaf. Ferdinand is not like the other bulls. He's a sweet, kind, and gentle bull who loves flowers. But he is forced to become a bull to be sent away as a bull to compete in bullfights. As a young bull, he runs away and lives with a flower farmer and his daughter for several years. One day, he is captured and sent back to the ranch he grew up in and learns that the bulls must become ready to be sent to the bullfights, otherwise they'll be taking to the slaughterhouse. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $296 million dollars out of its $111 million dollar budget with mixed reviews with praising John Cena's portrayal as Ferdinand, but that the story and characters were forgettable. This would be the second Blue Sky Studios film that would be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Film, but lost to Coco. How does the film hold up? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

Munro Leaf learned about the true story of a peaceful bull named Civilón that was raised on a farm outside Salamanca, Spain in the early 1930s. The story was told that It was pardoned mid-fight and the news of this event made papers, which was then published throughout many parts of Europe. Munro Leaf used this true story as a creative prompt for Robert Lawson. Read more here! MOOSE AND THE BEARY GREAT MYSTERY Would you like to draw a picture of what you think Moose or Rex looks like? Little graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and began his rising career in the industry first working under Patrick O'Connell at The Inn at Little Washington before a stint at Pennsylvania's Evermay-on-the-Delaware, which eventually led him back to his hometown to spearhead the fine dining restaurant at The Sheppard Mansion. Now a 2017 and 2018 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef Southeast, Little helms the kitchen at popular restaurant Josephine, where Pennsylvania Dutch roots meet Southern hospitality for a distinct and thoughtful experience beloved by guests. The Patrick Coffin Show | Interviews with influencers | Commentary about culture | Tools for transformation

Tony Esolen is both a sage and a survivor of the culture war. He knows there’s a war over which camp gets to determine the default setting narrative, and he knows the cost of warfare. He also knows it’s not a military war (at least not yet) but a war of ideas and moral stances. Esolen suffered a bumpy and very public exit from Providence College last year, where he taught English and classics since 1990 -- their youngest full tenured professor ever. But the diversity demon took hold and Esolen fought back manfully. In the end, he stepped away from the salary, the tenure, the sabbatical, and the sundry perks and joined the faculty of Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, NH. Like Ferdinand the Bull at the end of the Munro Leaf story, Esolen is happy. Our interview covered the story behind his departure from Providence not in a literary gossip way but in a What Went Wrong With Catholic Colleges way. We talk about the new Center for the Restoration of Christian Culture  and the importance of getting in the game of reclaiming our cultural heritage.   In this episode you will learn: Why the need to rebuild culture NOW is so urgent A sample of the books we ought to read to guide us The importance of beautiful and reverent liturgy The reasons why parents need to take back, as best they can, the education of their children from the education establishment bureaucrats The difference literacy makes in the lives of children and family life    Resources mentioned in this episode: The Death of Christian Culture by John Senior The Restoration of Christian Culture by John Senior Out of the Ashes: Rebuilding American Culture by Anthony Esolen Two Years Before the Mast by Richard Henry Dana The Counter-Revolution by Thomas Molnar   Join the Conversation: Question of the week: What small thing can I do as a family to restore the Christian culture?   Comment below.   Don’t forget to Subscribe to the show in YouTube, as well as the podcast so you can get the weekly show updates.
