Forgot that December is not really the ideal time to do that because in addition to really enjoying my Christmas making— scrapbook stuff down cellar. Pellet stove isn’t on. Cold.  Alo realizing, my goal i to document this stuff. I’m not feeling overly compelled to make every page a work of art. That’s fine. Taking pressure down a notch.  KAL News Quarterly Quests! Contest, News & Notes I released my latest shawl design- the Boxing Day Bonus Shawl (Ravelry Link). It is a sideways knit garter & eyelet shawl intended to maximize the use of mini skeins, specifically an Advent Mini Skein collection! The shawl is worked with increases in garter stitch stripes up to the center panel. The triangles are formed with German Short rows, then you decrease in garter stripes to finish off. The result is a big, cozy shawl where the rows never get too long and you’re not binding off hundreds of stitches but you still get that polished edge with the mock i-cord effect I use in so many of my pattern. Best of all- the pattern includes links to video tutorials to guide you throughout.  Check out full details on my website or on Ravelry. Tune in for a coupon code only for podcast listeners! You won’t find it anywhere else.  On a Happy Note Monday Nov 30th- we lost power in the evening but Dan and I worked together on getting the Christmas cards addressed and ready to mail! We lost power again on Sat 12/5. It didn’t last long but we listened to the My Favorite Murder Podcast and I got sleeve of mom’s cardigan done. Getting back into running! 2 massages recently! Zoom knit hangout with my friend Emily who you may know from the Knitting Butterflies audio podcast. Emily has been posting videos on her YouTube Channel again. Check them out here. All new windows installed, and our door replacements will be finished next weekend! I visited with Mom for her sweater try on and to pick up garland.  Tune in to Day 8 Vlogmas Video to see Mom’s gorgeous Christmas decorations. She says they’re scaled way down, and they are, but its still more than anyone else I know! We had another rainy Saturday so we watched hours of Good Girls on Netflix and wrapped all of our Christmas gifts. Getting to see our nieces and nephews (safely) and seeing Hattie experience Teddy Ruxpin Singing and Reading to her for the 1st time! Miss Robynn Murray is a martial arts practitioner and Iraq war veteran. Her story was featured in the Academy Award-nominated documentary, Poster Girl. There is this idea of rugged individualism in America, where if you can't do it all alone, you're a weak person. Well, no. That's crap! Miss Robynn Murray - Episode 550 Started training in Aikido when she was 14 years old, martial arts never got out of her lifestyle ever since. Miss Robynn Murray had trained with multiple disciplines such as Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as combat grappling when she served in Iraq. Ms. Robynn Murray's time in Iraq is nothing short of interesting. However, she suffered PTSD like most of the soldiers coming from the Iraq war and her story was featured in the Academy Award-nominated documentary, Poster Girl. In this episode, Miss Robynn Murray tells in detail her personal battles with violence, her experience in Iraq, her battle with PTSD, Mental Health, and a whole LOT more. Kaytee and Meredith are chatting again this week and we’re talking books and celebrities. Kaytee was apparently recording in a tunnel, so… sorry about that! We’ve got it sorted out and it won’t happen again, but we can’t re-record, because then it’s stale and boring. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us: stalking the UPS guy and the perfect way to meet other moms in a new setting! Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. We’re only doing two books a piece because these Book Bar episodes get really long otherwise! We’ve got an update for you on our Slow But Steady reads as well, what progress looks like for us. We are loving having you chime in for what you’re reading for this challenge. This week we’re discussing a few emails from listeners about their thoughts on Slow But Steady. For our deep dive, we are chatting about the ninth category for the Currently Reading Challenge: a book pressed by a celebrity. There are a billion celebrities pressing books into our hands these days! Finally, this week, we Belly Up to the Book Bar with Erin House, who tells us about her 5-star reads and we’ve got a bushel and a peck of titles to fill her cart! As per usual, time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book and resource we mentioned in this episode. "It is not an obligation for all artists to create work that has sociological, religious or political meaning, but artists as a whole have been pushing the boundaries of what is deemed "correct" for centuries. Art has influence, has been proven to strengthen communities, stir up conversation and bring focus on topics that otherwise wouldn't even be talked about. It is not your obligation as an artist, solely to continue this mission, but as artists, we see the world in a different way, and are able to express our feelings, thoughts, insights and opinions into a very channeled and focused way, sometimes in the form of a painting, sometimes as a piece of performance art, sometimes as a sculptural work, sometimes as a complete body of visual art. To censor that freedom is to censor the very reason some artists exist.
