#327 Collin Plume: Golden Rules for People-First Wealth Building

Chief Change Officer

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 27, 2025 32:59

Collin Plume didn't build Noble Gold to chase hype—he built it to restore trust in a system Gen X knows can break. In this first of a two-part series, Collin shares how early lessons from insurance sales, real estate, and recession-era survival shaped his people-first approach to wealth building. He explains why real assets like gold and silver aren't just investments—they're anchors of ownership in a world increasingly built on debt and paper. For Gen Xers who value resilience over rhetoric, and control over hype, this episode delivers the human side of financial security.>>Learning the Hard Way“Customer service wasn't a department—it was survival.”Collin reflects on early lessons selling insurance and real estate, where trust and loyalty mattered more than shiny marketing.>>Why People Stay—and Why They Leave“Employees don't stay because of ping-pong tables. They stay because they're seen.”He shares how mentorship and genuine relationship-building shaped his leadership style at Noble Gold.>>Selling Without the Sleaze“I don't care what you're selling—if you don't care about people, you lose.”Collin talks about why prioritizing people over products isn't soft—it's the only strategy that survives downturns.>>Precious Metals: The Ownership Play“When everything else feels intangible, gold and silver are still yours.”He explains why real assets like precious metals offer Gen Xers a hedge—not just against inflation, but against an unstable system.>>Family, Fear, and Financial Freedom“You're not just buying an asset—you're buying options.”Collin connects gold ownership to a deeper human need: protecting family, future, and dignity through real, controllable wealth.______________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Collin Plume --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. In the second half of his conversation, Collin Plume moves beyond financial products into financial legacy—sharing how Gen Xers can teach resilience, ownership, and critical thinking to the next generation. From diversifying income streams to protecting family futures with real assets, Collin reveals why wealth isn't about a flashy portfolio—it's about building something that lasts, even when systems shift. For Gen Xers tired of flashy advice and ready to raise wiser, stronger humans, this episode delivers the quiet tools for lifelong financial independence.>>Inflation, Instability, and the Fight for Financial Control“Gold has kept up with the cost of living for over 150 years.”Collin explains why owning tangible assets isn't just smart investing—it's a fight for personal freedom and future-proofing your life against system shocks.>>Diversification Isn't Optional Anymore“The mistake isn't just losing—it's being stuck in one idea forever.”He shares why today's market demands diversified thinking, constant learning, and rejecting loyalty to any one asset class—including real estate.>>Retirement Will Never Look the Same“People aren't retiring—they're reworking life.”Collin talks about the shifting realities of work, aging, and how side gigs, flexible income, and purpose-driven work are rewriting retirement for Gen X and beyond.>>The Rise—and Risk—of Finfluencers“Algorithms reward appeal, not expertise.”He calls out the dangers of taking financial advice from unverified influencers, and why critical thinking is the real currency in today's information economy.>>Teaching Kids the Real Value of Money“Experience and education over stuff.”Collin shares how he's raising his three kids to value assets over toys, experiences over things, and knowledge over hype—with gold and silver as real-world teaching tools.______________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Collin Plume  --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. BIO: Collin Plume, a precious metals expert and serial entrepreneur, helps investors maximize returns with minimal risk.STORY: Collin inherited some money from his grandmother at 18. When two of his college friends came to him with the idea of creating a TV show, but on the internet, he cut them a check that was way too much than what he should have. The business didn't work.LEARNING: If you're going to make a mistake in something, make it yourself and learn from it. “If I'm going to make a mistake, I will make it myself. I will put my blood, sweat, and tears into it.”Collin Plume Guest profileCollin Plume, a precious metals expert and serial entrepreneur, helps investors maximize returns with minimal risk. Founder of Noble Gold Investments and My Digital Money, he champions alternative assets like metals, real estate, and crypto. He is a dedicated family man who prioritizes integrity and client success in navigating complex financial markets.Worst investment everCollin inherited some money from his grandmother at 18. He did some traveling and a few other things with the money. Two of Collin's college friends came to him with the idea of creating a TV show but on the internet. In theory, it made a lot of sense. They raised money, and Collin cut them a check that was way too much than what he should have.Unfortunately, Collin didn't fully engage with the idea beyond writing the check. He didn't foresee the potential pitfalls. The business, however, didn't pan out. Collin's deepest regret in this investment was not actively participating in the business and learning from it. He lost money and the opportunity to grow as an entrepreneur.Lessons learnedIf you're going to make a mistake in something, make it yourself. Don't give money to someone else to make a mistake on your behalf—they will learn from it, you won't.Teach your kids how to make money from an early age.Andrew's takeawaysFamilies should take it upon themselves to protect the next generation.Actionable adviceIf you get that opportunity, take it and learn from it, but know that if you invest, you'll probably never see $1 come back to you. Also, you could jump on the bandwagon of a totally new and exciting idea, but there are some successful businesses out there that you can invest in.Collin's recommendationsCollin advises seeking out new mentors in different areas every year. Continuous learning and growth through mentorship is a powerful tool for personal development, and Collin himself has found it invaluable in his journey as an entrepreneur.No.1 goal for the next 12 monthsCollin's number one goal for the next 12 months is to train some people to take over more of the day-to-day operations in two of his businesses. On a personal level, he wants to go on one of the big hiking trips he's never been able to do.Parting words “I love this show—everything about it. You're a great guy to talk to. I appreciate you having me on; it's been a pleasure to be with you.”Collin Plume [spp-transcript] Connect with Collin Plume

Collin Plume has over 20 years experience in property insurance, commercial real estate, and precious metals investments, he is well-versed in finance and economics.  He helped investors guard their wealth during the last recession, aligning clients' interests in retail shopping centers from California to the American heartland, by making sure they averted financial ruin. After an extensive research on recession and its effects for clients, he joined a precious metals firm and soon rose to be one of the top brokers in the US, with more than $28 million in sales in one year. President and CEO of noble gold investments. Collin begins the conversation talking about how the founding fathers put gold in the constitution because it keeps government in check. It makes sure that the government cannot spend more than it has. Trump is now creating the parallel economy, he is shrinking government, placing tariffs on other countries and drilling for oil. He is bringing income in from the outside instead of taking it from the people. Gold is going to play a major role in the new economy, the golden age is not just a saying.

If you've ever wondered whether gold is more than just a doomsday hedge, Collin has some golden insights for you.Part 1 of our two-part series on money, metals, and making smart financial moves.Key Highlights of Our Interview:From Childhood Coin Collector to Precious Metals Expert: How Silver Sparked a Lifelong Passion“I received silver coins as a child, and even though they were worth just 25 cents on the surface, I learned they were actually worth much more. That stuck with me and led me to see gold and silver as overlooked assets.”Noble Gold: The Three Careers That Made It Happen“Insurance taught me customer service. Real estate taught me employee loyalty. And precious metals? That taught me marketing. Together, those experiences became the foundation for Noble Gold.”It's All About the People: Why Noble Gold Invests in Human, Not Just AI“I realized early on that it's not about what you're selling—it's about the people. Everything we do at Noble Gold is focused on creating the best possible human experience. While other companies are going all-in on AI, we've hired actual people to build relationships.”Gold Bars Under the Mattress: Why Some Investors Want to Feel Their Wealth“As funny as it sounds, some people might still stash their gold under the bed. It's all about having control—physical, tangible control over your investments.”Gold to the Rescue: Beating Inflation and Outpacing Bank Returns“In a time of soaring inflation, 4% returns in the bank aren't enough. Gold, up 27%, is proving to be a more reliable way to keep up with the rising cost of living.”______________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Collin Plume______________________--**Chief Change Officer**--Change Ambitiously. But I think being willing to learn about it is important. It will help you and it'll keep you sharp.”Beware of Finfluencer Hype: Not Everything That Shines Is Gold“Too often, people take influencers at face value, believing that the most engaging video equals the best advice. In reality, it's important to fact-check and do your own research because many influencers are just paid promoters, not experts.”Do Your Research: Don't Let Algorithms Make Your Financial Decisions“Algorithms don't care if the advice is good; they only care if the content is appealing. So when it comes to financial decisions, it's on you to dig deeper, check multiple sources, and make sure the influencers you follow are legit.”The Real Cost of Reckless Spending: Teaching Financial Discipline to the Next Generation“As a family, we prioritize experiences like travel and education over material goods. I've shown my children the gold and silver I've set aside for them and explained how these assets will be worth something significant in the future. Whether they want to start a business or pay for college, these investments will be there for them."“I make sure my kids know that money isn't something to be taken lightly. Whether it's explaining mortgages to my 8-year-old or discussing the importance of not being wasteful with their toys, they need to understand that everything has a cost. I often use examples like Disneyland—where you can easily spend thousands in just a few days."______________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Collin Plume______________________--**Chief Change Officer**--Change Ambitiously. I'm writing a book! I'm embarking on a new journey—this time, with words instead of miles. I'm thrilled to share that I've signed on with Dutton and Plume at Penguin Random House to write my first book: THE MARATHON BOOK (working title). This is my love letter to the marathon—a deep dive into its greatest moments, the legends who redefined what's possible, and the lessons we can all learn along the way (including my own pursuit of breaking 3 hours). Think history, debates, interviews with some of the best to ever do it, and a whole lot of storytelling that captures what makes this race so special. From Pheidippides to the wildest performances at the Olympics, Boston, New York and other marquee races—I can't wait to dig into it all. Whether you're training for your first marathon, chasing a PR, or just love a good sports story, I can't wait to share this with you.  Follow @themarathonbook on Instagram to keep up with my process and updates. So much more to come, but for now—I'm just at the starting line. Let's go.
