In this guest lecture, Dr. Walt Golet from the University of Maine provided an in-depth exploration of the remarkable physiology and global movements of Atlantic bluefin tuna. Dr. Golet highlighted the species' exceptional adaptations, such as their ability to regulate body temperature and sustain high-speed, long-distance migrations, which contribute to their status as apex ocean predators. The seminar discussed extensive lab research efforts, including the collection and analysis of over 12,000 bluefin tuna samples since 2011, focusing on biological data like age, growth, and stock origin to enhance stock assessments and inform management strategies. Dr. Golet also emphasized the importance of understanding the mixing between eastern and western Atlantic stocks, a factor critical to sustainable fisheries management. As an active contributor to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), Dr. Golet integrates his scientific findings into international policy discussions, aiming to ensure the long-term sustainability of bluefin tuna populations through informed, science-based management practices.
On this episode of The Science of Fishing, Mark Farag sits down with Pat Bennett, the inventor and founder of E-SeaRider — the original bean bag built specifically for boaters and offshore anglers. Pat shares how the idea was born out of real time on the water, and how E-SeaRider has grown into one of the most trusted names in comfort for those who spend long days offshore. They get into the early days of the brand, the challenges of creating a product truly made for fishermen, and how E-SeaRider designs with anglers in mind — from durability and function to the thoughtful materials that help reduce waste and last season after season. Pat also talks about the culture around offshore fishing, business lessons learned along the way, and a few fishing stories that'll hit home for anyone who's ever run 40 miles before sunrise.Whether you're a weekend warrior or a full-time deckhand, this episode gives you a closer look at the gear that makes the grind more comfortable — and the people who build it with purpose.

Misguided Saltwater Fishing Podcast brings Capt Charles Perry to the studio for ep 3.12. A podcast by nature is about talking the talk. CP walks the walk and has the book and DVD to prove it. To say we felt like we were in over our heads talking to him is an understatement. I don't believe there is anything we have done that he hasn't done more times and definitely better. Misguided Fishing episode 3.11 features Capt Dave Lusk of Salt Minded Fishing. Yes, the prodigal son has returned. Dave and I, Donnie D, had an idea a few years ago. Neither one of us had a clue had to film or produce a podcast but we went with it anyway. It has been nothing but fun. Dave got really busy last year and decided to step back and let somebody else jump to the other seat so I was so stoked when he escaped from the Russian Gulag and made an appearance with us even before going home and getting his toes amputated due to frostbite. (if you fish with him please don't stare at his feet) Enjoy this one. There are not many people that can say they spend more time on the water than Bobby Smith. Savage Inlet Oysters have quickly become the standard for oysters on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore & host of Chasin' the Sun on Discovery. He tells us about a fantastic mangrove snapper fishery inshore this time of year and he shares how he targets them. We also talk about the Mahi bite just a few miles offshore where the water changes color. If you don't feel like running a few miles out, we also talk about where to find exceptionally big Spanish mackerel and how Justin targets them. This is not the typical redfish, tarpon episode. Sometimes conditions dictate that your best chance of success is to target a completely different species and maybe use a method that you haven't tried before. Hopefully, this will give you guys some ideas of things to look for and try if "normal" conditions won't allow you to target your desired species. This is the kind of podcast that can turn a bad day of fishing into an epic one, you just have to be willing to change some things up and adapt. Just another reason to get out there and wet a line!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about using his new fly rod for the first time and the fish he was able to catch on the fly. We share some tips for beginners on how to make a quick cast when sight fishing as well as how to properly set the hook. At the end of the day, practice is the only way to get better at fly casting but luckily it is a very addictive way to target saltwater species. Brant also tells us about the recent success he has had fishing the local bridges. Bridges are always a good bet but in certain times of the year they can really fire up and it sounds like that is exactly what is happening in Pensacola right now.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He gives us an update on the offshore fishery out of Pensacola. It sounds like there is still a lot of debris in the Gulf so be careful out there if you have offshore plans in the near future. He also gives us an update on fishing inshore in the Pensacola area. It sounds like the inshore fishing is on fire, especially the slot redfish and big mangrove snapper. The bull reds and big jack crevel are also showing up and are a blast to catch on topwater baits!
Garrett Paquette, a professional angler competing within the Bassmaster Elite Series, and Neil Kempf, the Electronics Specialist at Naples Boat Mart, offer two very different marine electronics perspectives. For the Bassmaster Elite Series and tournament fishing in general, having state-of-the-art electronics is often essential for being competitive. Offshore saltwater fishing offers an entirely different set of challenges. However, in both cases, safety is a number one concern, in addition to fun and productive days fishing. In this episode, we discuss:Determining the specific boating electronics that fit your needsRecent advancements within the marine technology landscapeMarine electronics brand preferences and strengthsBoating electronics configurationsTargeting specific species with predictive technologies And much moreFinally, PartsVu is here to support all of your boating needs. On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He tells us about a solid offshore bite featuring red snapper, mangrove snapper, gag grouper and a surprise visit from a cobia! We also discuss some of the science behind the cobia migration as well as some of the science that effects most migratory species we see in the Gulf of Mexico. Jordan also tells us how he fishes the late summer months, theres no shortage of trout & redfish at first light along with the tarpon migration that are on the beach side. Also, don't forget that Triggerfish and AJ's are back in season, so the offshore bite should remain active for a while. Be sure to watch the weather for both extreme heat and thunderstorms this time of year and if you can sneak out, there are still plenty of fish to be caught!

In this episode we sit down with our good friend and fellow captain/mate Dave Good. Dave is a local salt, growing up in the South Shore of Massachusetts. He has spent most of his fishing career fishing for giant bluefin tuna in MA Bay, and hundreds of miles offshore fishing in the Canyons for various big game species. Dave has also been fortunate enough to work as a full-time deckhand in several private sportfish boat programs and brings a great level of experience to the table from the perspective of a hired crew member.Dave graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in fisheries science; which you will notice when you hear him implement data and "factoids" into his fishing tales.Dave kicks us off with a few fish stories from a recent trip to Florida kite-fishing for sailfish. He discusses a few things he picked up while down there and how they could be applicable to our various fisheries up here in the Northeast. The primary topic of discussion on this episode though is: How to you find your place fishing/working aboard a new boat, with a new crew, that may or may not already have a well developed system in place aboard their boat.We discuss a series of scenarios, real life experiences, and have a few laughs shedding light on an aspect of fishing that if not handled well, can drastically impact a day on the water, or even an entire career working on charter and private boats...Sponsors, Information, and Links from this podcast episode:SponsorsDeep ApparelMass Bay GuidesOur GuestCapt.
