Today, I am joined by David Morton, Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Customer Officer at Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) UK. With a rich background spanning over two decades in strategic sales, customer relationship management, and business process outsourcing, David offered an in-depth perspective on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in customer service. The conversation opened with a look at the evolving role of the Chief Revenue Officer. David reflected on how this position has significantly changed over the past decade, transitioning from a role that was once spread across multiple senior stakeholders to a consolidated position focused on business growth and strategy. He highlighted the increased complexity of the role, especially in navigating digital transformation and commercial models in today's fast-paced business environment. A key focus of the discussion was the integration of AI in customer service. David emphasized that AI should be viewed as a tool to support overall business strategy, rather than an end in itself. He shared insights on how AI is enhancing process automation, making it more intuitive, and optimizing operations. However, David also pointed out the importance of maintaining a balance between digital solutions and human interaction, ensuring that customers still have the option for personal contact in their service journey. David then delved into the strategies for building value with clients. He stressed the importance of understanding a client's industry, challenges, and long-term plans before engaging with them. This approach involves providing actionable insights tailored to the client's strategy and desired outcomes, and committing to a clear roadmap for transforming operations and delivering measurable business results. The integration of digital solutions in customer service was another significant topic. David discussed the challenges of operating across multiple channels with limited budgets and the role of digital solutions like multilingual chatbots in improving customer journeys. Despite the advancements in technology, he reiterated the need for the human element in customer service, which is crucial for culture, creativity, and gaining deeper customer insights. The episode concluded with David sharing where listeners can find more information about HGS and connect with his team online. This conversation with David Morton is a must-listen for anyone interested in how technology, especially AI, is reshaping customer service. It highlights the importance of AI in enhancing customer experience while underscoring the irreplaceable value of human interaction in the digital age.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A SHERPA OR MOUNTAIN WORKER DIES ON A MOUNTAIN CLIMBING EXPEDITION? TODAY I HAVE DAVID MORTON HERE TO talk about The Juniper Fund, its beginnings,  and the important work they're doing in Nepal to help the families of Sherpa who have lost their lives guiding and working in the mountains. For Sherpa throughout the Khumbu Region of Nepal, the dangers of guiding climbers to the world's highest peaks like Mount Everest, with the ever-present possibility of accidents, avalanches and the extremes of weather and altitude became no more evident than last month when a serac fall took the lives of three Sherpa in the Khumbu Icefall of Everest. Ab0ut one-third of the more than 300 deaths on Everest over the past hundred years  have been of Sherpa guides, according to the Himalayan Database, a mountaineering record-keeping body. In 2014 after the tragic avalanche there that claimed the lives of 16 sherpa and high altitude porters, massive strikes in Base Camp and beyond forced the hand of the government to increase the life insurance on a death there to $15000….however, the strength of the Nepal rupee has significantly diminished and that amount is now worth far less since it is paid in rupees. Many times these mostly men who die in the mountains are the sole or primary breadwinners for their families and those survivors have precious few resources to fall back on. In 2014 I visited several families while filming a documentary on Everest  that took a drastic turn after the avalanche. It was a deeply moving experience for me and my friends who were taking part in the expedition. A year before that two longtime friends and Himalayan guides, David Morton and Melissa Arnot Reid, started a non profit organization called The Juniper Fund, set up to help a couple families they knew who had their primary breadwinner lose his life during expeditions they were on.For more information about The Juniper Fund visit their website:https://www.thejuniperfund.orgSupport the show

Melissa Arnot is probably best known as the first American woman to summit and descend Everest without supplemental oxygen (she's summited six times in total). In 2012, the death of a fellow mountain guide and friend revealed a problem to her: the loss of a Himalayan high-altitude worker often means the loss of the main source of income for that person's family. This realization inspired her and David Morton to found The Juniper Fund, which has now provided cost of living grants, vocational training, and small business grants to 48 families. On this episode, she teaches us about creating valuable change, accepting visceral uncomfortability, and fighting against the 'American view' of philanthropy. The final part of our great visit with Dr. David Morton. In this episode we discuss the nature of editing and working with social media for education. We talk about Google and YouTube as vehicles for information exchange. Then the wonk factor about education talk. Does the future of medical education come down to just 5 or 6 really excellent content producers that are paid a license fee by the schools? Well before you get worried, David doesn’t quite see the future looking like this. Our segment on MOOCs really got me rethinking about the actual value of the anatomy lab. It is well known that I hated anatomy but the introduction of ultrasound made it palatable for me and understandable. This is why we need faculty and this is why we need faculty in person and on site, but the nature of the faculty needed will change and it favors those who can correlate their instruction with clinical application. I would also mention that David gets a little Zen about the whole experience of anatomy but his points are extremely well taken. He changed my mind as to why I should actually be thankful for all those formalin fumes. We discuss the myriad of buzzwords and new shiny objects that educators come back from conferences with and how they are meant to solve all problems and generally miss the fundamental point of education. This segment at around 18:00 minutes is probably the best of the segment for anyone aspiring to be a great educator. Frankly the entire podcast is a good place for an aspiring medical educator in the age of COVID-19 to start thinking about what medical education looks like, should look like and will look like… The Noted Anatomist https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe9lb3da4XAnN7v3ciTyquQ David’s Academic Page at the “U” https://medicine.utah.edu/faculty/mddetail.php?facultyID=u0166427 Dr. Morton uses Apple Keynote for his video products and a USB microphone of high quality for his work. Part 2 of the series where we were able to dialogue with David Morton, PhD of the University of Utah. David has a little online presence thing called The Noted Anatomist. Basically, 115,000 people, we can surmise that most of them are medical students, have decided that David’s approach to teaching anatomy is worthy of their time. So, knowing this I figured that it was time to track David down and discuss this whole deal. In this segment we talk about the nature of modern medical education, textbooks, costs, how students now consume medical education and how The Noted Anatomist actually makes his content. How do Medical Universities manage this change in educational approach? What do the good universities do? The Universities who value creativity in faculty and are willing to push the boundaries of what constitutes a “traditional” approach to medical education? Is scholarly work just journals and textbooks or does audiovisual content posted through social media constitute a new way of doing this? The Noted Anatomist is INTERNATIONALLY affecting. Basically the ability to reach content consumers is at a level never before experienced in medical education. Further, the issue of content control now favors the content creator more than ever. Creators are not dependent upon publishers and editors or other agents that demand changes to the creator’s vision or ideas. Creators can now just publish on multiple platforms and become experts at distribution. It’s crazy just how much access there is now. Basically, 115,000 people, we can surmise that most of them are medical students, have decided that David’s approach to teaching anatomy is worthy of their time. So knowing this I figured that it was time to track David down and discuss this whole deal. Although I interviewed David this past winter (January 2020) in Salt Lake, since then COVID-19 has become a highly disruptive influence to the process of medical education. But in a fit of premonition, David and I decided to discuss what the internet has done for education. In short, the brave new world is the domain of the content creators and the better content that you can create, the more value students place in watching it. David was not happy with how he was taught, and just so that we are clear here, he could have gone to medical school, but he decided to be an anatomist instead and he was determined to develop pre-study materials that would make his instruction in anatomy all the more meaningful to the students. So, in this first part of the series we talk about his back ground and how he evolved as an online educator. The interview took place in his office at The “U” and I am not kidding when I tell you that the place was like a bunker. Happily, the inherent processing capable of Final Cut Pro delivered an absent air handler that I was really concerned about. I hope that you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed recording it. In doing this interview, I not only found a kindred educator but a new good friend… The Noted Anatomist https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe9lb3da4XAnN7v3ciTyquQ David’s Academic Page at the “U” https://medicine.utah.edu/faculty/mddetail.php?facultyID=u0166427 David’s work on Computer Assisted Instruction in Ghana https://www.researchgate.net/publication/340578545_Incorporating_computer-assisted_instruction_CAI_into_a_Ghana_West_Africa_medical_school_curriculum Good luck finding him finding him playing a guitar…I looked everywhere but I know that I have seen it…Finally thanks to MS 1 Lindsey Wright I found it. https://www.facebook.com/UofUMedicine/videos/dr-mortons-gi-song/770753873264207/ The Ogden Mustangs https://www.ogdenmustangs.com/ As always you can send comments to me at: TR Fredricks on Facebook @MedicalCinema on the Twitter You can reach Brian Plow @ProfPlow on the Twitter You can reach Nisarg Bakshi @nisargbakshi on the Twitter or Rotationspodcast@gmail.com Catch us on twitter at @RotationsPcast Look for more Rotations Content at mediainmedicine.com Rotations and on iTunes at Rotations Podcast. Through key episode’s in Mozambique’s urban history – from colonial responses to migrant labor to independence-era responses to flooding, he interprets the routine forms of house construction as critical political acts through which ordinary residents of the city have inserted themselves into the city and concretized urban belonging. The materiality of different building materials are central this story. The risks and obstacles of constructing permanent, concrete, housing in the face of politically enforced urban impermanence an d ambiguous legal status kept the popular suburbios in suspension. David Morton talks to host Jacob Doherty about the ways that the built environment both reflects and shapes the changing aspirations and achievements of the city’s residents. Offering a critical contribution to the process of decolonization in African cities, Morton examines the racial and spatial effects of colonial Portugal’s officially race-blind ideology as well as the ambivalent anti-urban bias of the early FRELIMO regime. David Morton is an assistant professor of African History at the University of British Colombia. He has written about architectural and planning histories, Portuguese colonialism, informal settlements, housing, and citizenship, and decolonization. Jacob Doherty is a lecturer in the Anthropology of Development at the University of Edinburgh. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Dead Puppet Society: My honest opinion about… why puppets are not for kids.

“We got obnoxiously drunk and started inserting the ‘puppet' into famous movie titles and ‘Dead Puppet Society' just stuck. We knew we were going to change it when we came up with a better idea and it's now 12 years old.” In their own words, Nicholas Paine and David Morton are “hell bent on bringing their inimitable brand of entertainment to the world”.  In everyone else's book, they're the two guys who registered one of the coolest company names in showbiz.  Nick and David founded Dead Puppet Society in 2008 to create deeply imaginative theatre where the old school meets the technological and the mythic meets the modern. “When we first started the company … we were hell-bent on this idea it was adult theatre.”In this podcast, they reflect on a remarkable career trajectory that started at QUT, blazed a trail through Brisbane's most respected arts organisations and festivals then on to the world stage, including residencies in New York and productions in the UK.Yet through it all, they continue to battle a global misconception that puppetry is just for kids. David and Nick offer their honest opinions on Brisbane as a breeding ground for artists, reveal their huge international plans and share some of the cringeworthy company names drunkenly proposed. “Anything is possible. I mean, we'd get in a lot of trouble if we had to rip a limb off our performer but it's fine for a puppet.”For more honest opinions, follow us on Instagram @imho_aus, like us on Facebook @IMHOAUS, and sign up to become a Citizen Reviewer at inmyhonestopinion.com.au. GUEST: David Morton, Creative Director and Nicholas Paine, Executive Producer of Dead Puppet Society HOST: Belinda Seeney  For information regarding your data privacy, visit Acast.com/privacy

Host Timothy Regan offers a list of things people say and do in order to control, dominate, manipulate, or abuse other people.  Knowing the moves of emotional and verbal abuse and control helps us all be more free and empowered because it allows us all to catch them and name them when they are happening.  When we can do that, we have the beginning of liberation, because when we see something, we are separate from it, and what we can name loses its power over us, so we can respond on our own terms. Special guest David Morton of Men Against Violence joins Timothy to clarify and explain the list.  (Learn more here about Men Against Violence) Both Timothy and David offer tools and choices that you can use to help you be liberated from verbal and emotional oppression. Most fish keepers and most people in general think that there are only 2 types of water systems and aquariums. They will say that there is freshwater (which has no salt) and saltwater. But, did you know that there is something in between freshwater and saltwater??! Yes there is. It is called Brackish Water. Brackish water is a mixture of saltwater with freshwater.
