The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Speaker Dustin Burrows is lining up to have his legacy as the man who backdoor legalized the get-high THC marijuana/hemp industry in Texas. I have been following the fight in the legislature over THC and have read most every story about what is happening. Saying that, I can assure you that Karen Brooks Harper's story in The Dallas Morning News is accurate and the headline has a correct slant on the story: Bill that would save THC retailers from total ban advances in Texas House panel. The people pushing this the hardest are West Texas reps that Speaker Burrows put on the powerful State Affairs panel and are of his leadership circle. The BurrowCrats are directly fighting state Senator Charles Perry's effort to roll back this unintended legalization loophole that came from the Hemp bill in 2019. House leadership is using much time and energy to fight to SAVE the get-high retail business of selling THC infused products. This is nothing more than the backdoor legalization of a get-high drug culture. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Texas Lt. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Sadly Senator Charles Perry joined with a few others to help Senator Nichols gut the bill to ban taxpayer funded lobbying. The bill, SB 19 by Senator Middleton, is a wheat-from-the-chaff issue for anyone interested in good and better government. It is an issue conservatives and Republicans have been working to pass for many years.Senator Perry's joining in the gutting amendment is siding with local government functionaries over his constituents (as well as big-government Democrats and RINOs.) And, what does it say about the work of elected officials that they need a hired-gun lobbyist to work with them in order to “make sure the voices back home can be heard,” as Senator Nichols stated? It certainly doesn't point to anything complimentary. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.We now know that Lieutenant Governor Patrick was right: The Texas House leadership did spend like a “drunken sailor” in the inept and evidence free impeachment of Ken Paxton. Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) sat down with The Texan's reporter Matt Stringer to discuss Senate Bill (SB) 4, the border security legislation that Republican lawmakers passed last year that is currently caught up in an ongoing court battle.SB 4 was authored by Perry in the Senate and Rep. David Spiller (R-Jacksboro) in the House, and passed during the fourth special session in November.“It's very clear the states have the right to defend themselves, and that's the heart of SB 4,” said Perry. “We're not challenging federal supremacy. We're saying you got supremacy. You just chose not to do anything with it. We're going to take that role for you.”

The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: A full review of the motions, votes, and opening statements from the Paxton impeachment debacle which began in our Texas Senate today. There were many terrible votes in the early motions by senators showing only six to eight have much respect for the Rule of Law and constitutional protections. Among the worst votes was 22 to 8 voting against the motion to exclude unlawfully obtained “evidence.” Even Lubbock's Senator Charles Perry voted “Nay” on such – it's beyond shocking.I must say I was near tears in Buzbee's opening because of how personal to me it was. As one of the few long timers who has followed each and every element of the attacks on Paxton over many years, but almost never reads a press account that less than ignorant on what has happened, I was shocked to hear Buzbee echo the things I have said many times about these issues and often in similar language. He even started with the victory of Dan Branch just as I have explained for all of this time! I have felt quite alone in my overall knowledge of these issues making Buzbee's comments was a type of confirmation of my decade of commentary on the Paxton issue as a whole. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Disturbing economic trends from the Dallas Fed report: Manufacturing continues to decline and retail sales remain in the dumps. Senator Perry talks about his major work to benefit securing water resources for Texas' future (SB28.) Representative Dustin Burrow's bill, HB 2127, to further prevent Texas cities from trying preempt state law and regulate businesses with differing rules took up most of the House session today. Senator Perry represents District 28, which is the largest Senate District, geographically, in the State of Texas. We'll be discussing water issues Texas is facing such as boil water notices, drought, flooding, and population growth. We'll also talk about Senate Bill 28, which Senator Perry authored and has bipartisan support as it advances through the Texas Legislature. Due to the severity of the water crisis facing Texas, we encourage our listeners to learn about water policy in Texas and contact your elected officials to actively support a multi-billion allocation to state water resources during this session. The state has a hefty surplus this session, and it is important that lawmakers use a substantial portion of it to ensure safe and ample water supply throughout Texas.
The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Senate committee moves bill to help Texas Tech and University of Houston systems get more funding but it's just another drop in the bucket effort. The issue will never be resolved until enough legislators set aside pride, envy, and a host of other sins and agree to let the Permanent University Fund (PUF) fund more than A&M and UT.Also, Senator Charles Perry has made future water resources in Texas a big priority of his service and the Senate has passed his SB 28 / SJR 75. However, legislators are making a big long (or short?) term mistake in continuing to add to the clout of the Texas Water Development Board – they are funding, growing, and empowering a Leftist Leviathon that will, at some point, turn on us and do so with little direct political accountability. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Sales tax collections up but retail is in the dumps.Trump's indictment by a local prosecutor isn't unique – the same was done in Texas to Rick Perry to kill his presidential campaign: Trump Isn't The First GOP Candidate Indicted By Local Democrats. And, other news of Texas.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Borani yemeği İran'a gidince patlıcanlı olmuş ve yoğurt eklenmiş.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for April 28, 2022 is: salt junk SAWLT-JUNK noun Salt junk is dried salted beef. // In the past, sailors survived long voyages eating salt junk. See the entry > Examples: "Civil War soldiers referred to hardtack as 'death bells'; sailors called salt meat 'salt junk,' meaning salted rope ('junk' was originally a term for scraps of worn-out rope, which could be put to various uses aboard ship)." — Charles Perry, The Los Angeles Times, 27 Mar. 2002 Did you know? Salt junk might refer to any salty junk food, but, by definition, it refers to dried salted beef and has nautical origins as a name for food preserved with salt for long sea voyages. The word junk itself was used for pieces of old cable or cordage, which influenced the term salt junk for tough, chewy food.

She was an undefeated high school swimmer and moved on to swim at a highly competitive collegiate level at Cornell University (class of 2020). In this Matbakh event, we talked to Charles Perry about his career as a translator of several medieval cookbooks from Arabic to English and published widely on the history of food. In 2005 Perry translated from Arabic A Baghdad Cookery Book, also known as Al-Baghdadi's Kitab al-Tabikh, the only medieval Arabic cookbook known to the English-speaking world.Created by Mikey Muhanna, afikra Hosted by Antonio TahhanEdited by: Ramzi RammanTheme music by: Tarek Yamani https://www.instagram.com/tarek_yamani/About Matbakh:Matbakh is a conversation series that focuses on food and drink of the Arab world. In this episode we explore the relationship between cooking and writing. With special guest Anny Gaul, we talk about the origins of national dishes such as couscous and koshary; medieval Arabic cook books; and representations of kitchens and cooking in Egyptian literature. Show Notes: Anny Gaul's writing and recipes, including the one on “bad translations” of hummus are online at cookingwithgaul.com. She wrote about Egyptian koshary as the dish we need right now for Eater. Her article on Abla Nazira's famous cookbooks is here. Her analysis of the depictions of cooking, kitchens and happiness in Egyptian writing can be found in the anthology Insatiable Appetite: Food as Cultural Signifier in the Middle East and Beyond. Health care will likely be top of mind for Texas lawmakers as they return to the Capitol for the 2021 legislative session during the worst public health crisis in a century.“It is time for us to be very pragmatic and take a common-sense approach to how we cover the health care needs of Texans,” said state Sen. Beverly Powell, D-Burleson, during a Texas Tribune panel discussion on the state Senate's agenda. She added that, amid a mounting number of uninsured Texans, she was “extremely optimistic” legislators would vote to expand Medicaid this session. Texas lawmakers have been reluctant to expand coverage for people with incomes near or below the poverty line. The conversation, moderated by Tribune reporter Patrick Svitek, also featured state Sen. José Menéndez, D-San Antonio, state Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, and state Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock. Perry said he has “no doubt this is the session” to expand access to broadband internet for rural Texans. More than 800,000 people lack adequate broadband infrastructure, according to a letter sent to Gov. Greg Abbott in September by a bipartisan group of state lawmakers. The panelists also highlighted new safety protocols that will be in place this session at the Capitol. Members of the public who wish to testify may first have to test negative for COVID-19.“My hope is that we make it a work environment where we can get the job of the people done in a safe and professional way,” Menendez said.
Charles Perry started this documentary with no funding and no corporate support. Despite this, he left his home, relationship and regular life to pursue a project he was so very passionate about. Over the past 3 years, Charles has married the story of the Black Cowboy and his passion for film making to produce a documentary showcasing the unsung history and culture of black horsemen all over the country. He has received additional support to continue his work and reminds us there is enough out here for everyone. His favorite part of the filming process is connecting with the people he meets and capturing their personality on film. Charles continues to pursue his life dream despite the global pandemic, and is excited to announce the documentary is almost complete. We played 2 truths and a lie and learned how a fellow film maker left him in Kansas and how one time his equipment was compromised and stolen. Charles reminds us that life’s ups and downs make for the best movie quests. His advice for aspiring film-makers is simple: Figure out what you want Figure out how you are going to get it Watch/listen to the very end for his hilarious story of being mistaken for Idris Elba at the Sundance film festival! In today's News: Abortionist loses license The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners has suspended the temporary medical license of abortionist Leah Nicole Torres and has ordered her to cease and desist the practice of medicine after it found she had lied repeatedly on her permanent medical license application and committed unprofessional conduct. She was ordered to immediately surrender her license certificate. Torres has until Sept. 21 to file an appeal with the Medical Licensure Commission. A full hearing in the matter has been set for Dec. 21, 2020, in Montgomery, Ala. Another city may become 'sanctuary for the unborn' One of Texas’ largest cities could soon become the state’s 15th “sanctuary city for the unborn” if pro-life activists have their way. With an estimated population of more than 260,000, Lubbock is the 11th largest city in the Lone Star State. On Aug. 25, State Sen. Charles Perry and State Reps. Dustin Burrows and John Frullo wrote a letter to Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope urging him to enact a sanctuary city ordinance that would ban abortion within city limits. Two weeks after the lawmakers sent the letter to Pope, more than 200 Lubbock residents gathered outside of Lubbock’s citizen’s tower to express support for the proposed ordinance. The letter to Pope comes as Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, announced plans to open a new abortion clinic in Lubbock by the end of the year. Netflix movie criticized A number of politicians, most of them Republicans, have come out in recent days condemning the new Netflix movie “Cuties,” which has been widely characterized as “child pornography.” Sen. Ted Cruz from Texas wrote in a letter to Attorney General Bill Bar stating, “I urge the department of justice to investigate the production and distribution of this film to determine whether Netflix, its executives, or the individuals involved in the filming and production of ‘Cuties’ violated any federal laws against the production and distribution of child pornography.” Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley asked the company to answer several questions, including about the fact that Netflix rated the movie “TV-MA” for “language” but not for “its graphic sexual content.” The rating “TV-MA” indicates that “these programs are intended to be viewed by mature, adult audiences and may be unsuitable for children under 17.” Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Tom Cotton Of Arkansas also wrote to Netflix as did Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, the only Democrat to question the movie. The administration tightens Planned Parenthood funding President Donald Trump took another step to defund the abortion industry yesterday through a new proposed rule to expand the Mexico City Policy. The pro-life policy has been in place during Republican presidential administrations since Ronald Reagan, defunding the International Planned Parenthood Federation and other abortion groups of hundreds of millions of tax dollars. The new proposed rule could lead to even more cuts to pro-abortion groups. Released yesterday in the Federal Register, it would require all groups that receive global health aid contracts to agree not to promote and/or provide elective abortions, The Hill reports. Those that refuse would not receive taxpayer funding. Abortion activist groups quickly blasted the proposal, claiming it “hurts women and families worldwide.”

In this episode, Lisa and Julianne introduce listeners to artist Kody Bundy and filmmakers Karen Sailer and Charles Perry. The panel-style interview was recorded during the EQUUS Film and Arts Fest at the Kentucky Horse Park in December.Artist Kody Bundy creates her artwork with knives and brushes. According to Kody, "Growing up on the rolling prairie of my fathers farm, I had a deep appreciation for horses. When I wasn't spending time riding or just hanging out with them I was drawing them. After high school graduation I put away drawing and began my life working and training horses. During the Western Art Week in 2015 at Great Falls, MT I first observed a Scratchboard artist and was amazed by the detail she could achieve by using the tools she used to create her artwork. The panels I use are layered with white china clay and are airbrushed with either black India Ink or a choice of colored India Inks. Then the fun begins. I use razor blades/ X-acta knives, fiberglass brushes and nibs to remove the ink to engrave my image on the panel. Colored artwork is layered with ink using a paint brush. Imagine seeing a single blade of grass or a whisker in 3-D. Because that is what it is, etched in clay."www.kodybundy.comKaren Sailer, born in 1962, grew up in Germany and has lived in Ibiza, Spain since 1995. When asked when she was 14, what she wanted to be, she replied: veterinarian, textile designer, landscape architect, writer and filmmaker. She studied veterinary medicine, was chief designer of a carpet company in Nepal and then became Ibiza‘s most successful landscape architect. As a modern medicine woman, who has learned from the great wisdom keepers of our earth, she has cultivated her gift of turning deserts into paradises into soul-rejuvenating work with people and horses. Karen Sailer has often shed skin and, with the journey back to her past life as a warrior in 16th century France, opened a new chapter in her eventful life. The publication of a 12-minute short film in February 2019 about her experience with the old equestrian figure and the decision to openly and authentically share her magical journey on social media has suddenly made her a public person, which has been breathlessly followed by thousands of people.https://mmj.onesixdc.com/Producer, director, and cinematographer Charles Perry creates films that explore race relations, political issues, and interpersonal perspectives. His current film, ‘The Black Cowboy’ takes you into the world of African-American history and culture that is little known. Most of us know the cowboy as a gun toting white man like John Wayne. (Rock Hill, S.C.) — Charles Perry, the 2019 S.C. Press Association Journalist of the Year and a Winthrop University alum, told students they need to acquire a myriad of skills to work in the field of journalism, during the school’s annual Mass Comm Week. “Students need to be able to not only write clearly, write powerful stories, but they also need to be able to take compelling photographs, shoot and edit video. They really need to be generalists,” said Perry, who spoke with the Palmetto Report about his career. He was the keynote speaker at the three-day event hosted by the Department of Mass Communication, which included a series of speakers and panel discussions, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Perry, who graduated from Winthrop in 2005 with a degree in mass communication, was honored as the department’s distinguished alumnus. He serves as the editor of myhorrynews.com and the Carolina Forest Chronicle, a weekly newspaper in Horry County, where he covers county government, the justice system and agriculture.
Sen. Charles Perry joins Jonathan Saenz to talk about his religious freedom bill or occupational license holders in Texas.
How is it possible for “a sincerely held religious belief” to be used as an acceptable form of discrimination? The answer is simple. There are far too many powerful egos in power pandering to far too many fearful egos who scream the loudest and also throw the largest amount of cash and support behind any politician who helps them get their way.Last week LGBTQ lives and rights were yet again put into question:The Texas Senate on Tuesday gave its initial OK to a bill that civil rights advocates say would give state-licensed workers — including doctors, child care providers and counselors — a free pass to discriminate, especially against people in the LGBTQ community. Senate Bill 17, filed by state Senator Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, would bar state agencies that issue occupational licenses from penalizing workers who refuse to provide services based on “a sincerely held religious belief.”SourceIn today’s episode I talk about,The value of meditation versus religious practice; How religion makes spiritual practice easy but not necessarily authentic; How some religions alleviate the need for patience and tolerance; Why god is personal, not a person, and;Why believing in a higher power represented as a being creates ethical quandaries.Read the complete post on my publication, Th-Ink Queerly“Sincerely Held Religious Beliefs” — A Specious Defence of Prejudicehttps://medium.com/th-ink/sincerely-held-religious-beliefs-a-specious-defence-of-prejudice-e8a069889ba6Header image: yumikrum

Retired LA Times food writer and food historian Charles Perry explains how the 19th century Los Angeles practice of earth-pit barbecuing whole bulls became a culinary craze for settlers who saw the eating of the bull’s head as a wild west delicacy, and how the rise of Hollywood changed the practice into what we know today as the backyard barbecue. “People had this obscure sense that they had been having too much fun in the 20s and they now were being punished and so everything became suave and elegant and the idea of being able to invite people as if on the spur of the moment for a steak was very appealing.” --- Ox Tales is produced by Anna Sigrithur and edited by Naomi Duguid and Fiona Sinclair with production help by Thomas Krause. The Black Cowboy is a look at a little known chapter in the history of the United States. It is a story that illuminates the often overlooked people who contributed to the building of the ideal that is the American dream. This documentary will tell those stories from the past to the present. It is the riveting story of the past and present day Black Cowboy. Rarely seen outside Oklahoma boundaries and never before explored this intensely in film, The Black Cowboy searches to understand the links that connect the development of the American West, the rodeo tradition, and the unbroken spirit of Black Americans emerging from slavery in the 1860s and immigrate to Oklahoma to create new lives on their own terms; free and open as the West was promised to all Americans. Black history is American history and The Black Cowboy seeks to convey this to a broader audience.

Scents and Flavors is a 13th century Syrian cookbook which historian and Arabic scholar Charles Perry has edited and translated. Unlike many early recipe manuals this book gives us a glimpse of the social history of the medieval period in Syria. Charles talks about an inventive cuisine that elevates simple ingredients by combining various aromas of herbs, spaces, fruits and flower essences. He shares stories and descriptions of ingredients and recipes for food and drink as well as the fragrances that garnish the meals and perfume the diners. A Tatste of the Past is powered by Simplecast.
On this week's episode of Eat Your Words, host Cathy Erway is joined by Charles Perry, a culinary historian who has written widely on cooking in the medieval Middle East. He is the editor and translator of *Scents and Flavors: A Syrian Cookbook (Library of Arabic Literature)*, a popular 13th-century Syrian cookbook.

You’ve got to understand music’s traditions in order to reinvent them. Jordan Bratton certainly does. The 18-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer possesses a prodigious grasp on all aspects of music. His critically applauded 2014 mixtape, The Grey Area, and debut single “Danger 3” are wholly the products of his personal production and songwriting vision. Armed with a multitude of talents, he stands poised to truly break ground. At only four-years-old, the New York native realized his innate passion for singing. Encouraged by his “musical” family, he joined the choir in Kindergarten and enjoyed his first moment in the spotlight singing a solo at Lincoln Center during the holidays. Young Jordan also learned the drums before picking up piano and organ at age eleven followed by guitar, bass, and even clarinet. Immersed in the likes of Earth Wind & Fire and Kim Burrell among other R&B and gospel icons, he even started performing live with his dad’s band as well as playing organ at church. “I built a great feel and vibe for soulful music,” he explains. “I really admired those artists, and they impacted my singing so much.” Around the same time, Jordan also hit Broadway. After joining the touring production of The Lion King as “Young Simba,” he went on to star in The Color Purple. All the while, he amassed an impressive collection of songs and productions created in his parent’s basement.
Anniversary Message - March 2014
Revs. Sheryl Meyers, E.J. Niles, and Charles Perry join Dr. Tom for a lively discussion on the value of the Judeo-Christian scripture and its place in Unity today. Modern historical-critical scholarship and spiritual practices such as Lectio Divina have the potential to open the Bible to a wider audience beyond religious conservatives. This show is a must-hear if you remember the Bible fondly, or would like to pry it from the grasp of the Religious Right. Learn how to tap into the wisdom of the ages as the liberating documents they were intended to be.
Dr. Shepherd's guest this week is Chief Warrant Officer 3 Charles Perry of the California National Guard, also a senior in the M.Div. program at Unity Institute® and Seminary. Tune in to hear two "old soldiers" reminisce about their experiences in the military—Dr. Shepherd in Vietnam, Charles Perry in Afghanistan—and look at war and peace issues from the perspective of Prosperity consciousness.

Posted by Brad Flickinger on Jun 26, 2012 in school technology As I have said before in this blog, I attend edtech conferences to be inspired and to steal ideas to take back to my own school. But when I left the keynote that opened this year’s ISTE 2012 Conference, I was scratching my head wondering what was the purpose of what I had just witnessed. I felt embarrassed to be an educator. Those are the opening words of Charles Fillmore’s talk on Power from April 17, 1910. Charles was of course talking about our mental faculty of Power and how we use it in our words. Listen in to this early talk of material that came to be spelled out in his book, The Twelve Powers. My special guest is Charles Perry, ministerial student at Unity Institute® and Seminary.
