In this episode of the Moms for Trans Kids podcast, mamabeast Dr. Lulu and co hosts discuss the importance of supporting gender diverse children and the challenges they face. They address the recent propaganda surrounding detransitioning and the need to focus on trans joy and happiness. The guests share personal experiences and highlight the significance of parental support in a child's transition journey. The conversation emphasizes the need for medical professionals to provide gender affirming care and the importance of understanding the unique struggles faced by transgender individuals. Key Takeaways: Supporting gender diverse children is crucial for their mental health and overall well-being. Detransitioning is rare and often occurs due to societal and familial pressure, not personal regret. Transgender individuals who receive gender affirming care experience increased confidence and happiness. Parents play a vital role in their child's transition journey and should provide unwavering support and love. GMOs and anti-Muslim bigotry, it *must* be the George Bush era. Maria and her guests, childhood friends Dondré Taylor-Stewart and Rosalie Murray, go back in time to the first two seasons of DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION (2001-2015) to discuss political storylines headed by resident activist girl Emma Nelson and resident Early-2000s-Black-Woman-Who-Deserved-Better Hazel Aden. From Emma telling off teasing boys when she gets her period to Hazel's journey accepting her Somalian identity publicly in a post-9/11 world to Emma's GMO protest turned free speech protest, we run the gamut of early 2000s politics in our first (but certainly not our last) DEGRASSI episode. Welcome to April 24, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the pets in our hearts and pigs in a blanket. Audrey Hepburn was one of the first celebrities to go everywhere in public with her dog. Mr. Famous, her Yorkshire Terrier, was along for photo shoots and Hollywood events. This wasn't common practice at the time and it helped make pets seem more like family. When asked why her dog was always with her, Hepburn said “I walk my dog to keep me fit. I talk to my dog, which keeps me sane.” Pet parents everywhere can likely relate. There's nothing quite like a furry friend to make you feel better at the end of a long day. On National Pet Parents Day, we celebrate the special bond between people and their pets. If you've ever paid attention to the party food that disappears faster than any other snack on the buffet table, then you'll know: it's pigs in a blanket. Why are these tiny hotdogs wrapped in dough so darned popular? Maybe it's because they remind us of childhood: baseball games with our dad, or the time your family went to the state fair. Or maybe it's because there's some magic formula that makes eating a dozen of them feel better than downing a full-sized hotdog! On National Pigs In A Blanket Day, throw yourself a party and celebrate making these piggies disappear. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
