SEASON 4 EPISODE 32: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Quislings. Traitors. Cowards. Capitulators. Collaborators. Fakes. Frauds. Enablers. Betrayers. Failures. Political Prostitutes. Senators Durbin, Kaine, Fetterman, Shaheen, Cortez-Masto, Hassan, Rosen, and King need to be expelled from the Democratic party and any that mistakenly think they have a chance of retaining their seats must be primaried. Must be. They are not progressives, they are not pragmatists, they are not even moderates. They are fools. Their careers must be ended. Now. Durbin, Kaine, Fetterman, Shaheen, Cortez-Masto, Hassan, Rosen, and King. Now. Done. Forgotten. Let us hear their names no more. Last night these eight Senators voted to fold, without any pressure, without any bribe, without anything. They voted to kick millions of Americans off ObamaCare in order to reopen and fund the government – for only three months, mind you – in exchange not for magic beans but just the promise of a vote in which they’ll GET magic beans – a vote ON the health care subsidies - IF half a dozen Republicans defy Trump. A vote about magic beans. Which they won’t win. Their rationalizations were pathetic and suggested their familiarity with the reality of the Senate, of Trump, of the Republican Party, was less than that of the average Senate Page. What's worse is, this happens now as the reality becomes more and clear: Trump’s mind is gone. It’s so bad even The Washington Post noticed. It’s so bad The Washington Post even put it on their front page. He’s hyping weight loss drugs. In The Oval Office. And how he and he alone can bring down their price. And a weight loss patient there to extoll weight loss drugs and say how safe they are and praise Trump’s wonderfulness… collapses. Folds. Drops, slow-motion, like a deflating inflatable tube man at a used car sales lot. Trump – whose mind is gone - not only doesn’t help the guy on the floor… he’s offended he upstaged him. And then Trump – whose MIND IS GONE - falls asleep. For the second time. Or as The Washington Post put it: “A Closer Look At Trump’s Apparent Struggles To Fight Off Sleep In The Oval Office” read the Post headline. “A Washington Post analysis of multiple video feeds found that the president spent nearly 20 minutes apparently battling to keep his eyes open…” 815 words follow. And four pictures. One of Trump – whose mind is gone - with one eye closed. One with one eye closed and two fingers rubbing it. One with both eyes closed. One where you can almost SEE the snoring. Even. The Washington Post. Knows It. Let’s step back from the nuts-and-bolts of the government shutdown to try to process how it was perceived by Trump…whose mind is gone. HE thought it would be a GOOD idea to cut off food stamps so lines at soup kitchens would get longer just as it was getting cold. He thought the correct political move as the Holidays approached was… government-sponsored starvation. He believed that the country would praise him for… gradually shutting down all air travel – including all air travel FOR HIS SUPPORTERS – first for Thanksgiving and then for Christmas and New Year’s. He thought these were good political moves. SPORTSBALLCENTER (30:00): Yes, legal gambling could send two Cleveland pitchers to jail for 65 years. But no, they didn't actually make a Shohei Ohtani Used Jockstrap baseball card. B-Block (38:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Politico thinks the first thing a Mayor-Elect of New York has to do is answer questions about the 2028 Senate elections. The Breaker media newsletter finds the New York Times fricasseeing its own digital books. That's right: FIFA isn't just polishing Trump's knob, it's inventing a "Peace Prize" so it can polish it harder. And Dr. Oz wants you to lose 400 pounds by the midterms. C-Block (55:00) WHY I'M NOT A HOCKEY ANNOUNCER: One of my favorite sportscasting stories: how my budding career as a plucky pucky play-by-play guy was thwarted when the team we were broadcasting "forgot to rent the rink" - and how I avenged myself.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On Tuesday, voters in Virginia, New York City, New Jersey, Texas, California, and Mississippi overwhelmingly supported Democratic candidates and ballot initiatives. In New York, despite facing racist opposition from both Republicans and much of the Democratic establishment, Zohran Mamdani sailed to victory. The new mayor-elect won over 50 percent of the vote in a three-way race. And in Virginia, Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger won with an even greater margin over her opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, whose campaign weaponized transphobia in a vain attempt to defeat Spanberger. In California, as of Wednesday, nearly two-thirds of the vote favored redrawing the congressional map to counter Republican gerrymandering in Texas. The Intercept Briefing spoke with Amanda Litman, co-founder and president of the PAC Run for Something, and Maurice Mitchell, national director of the Working Families Party, to discuss what lessons Democrats and progressives should take heading into the midterm elections. Mitchell pointed to Mamdani's and other Democrats' success last night at driving home a positive economic message for working-class voters as an important roadmap for next year.“There's elements of [Mamdani's] victory that are very particular to New York, that are very particular to him, but the politics and the conditions that are a part of the victory are happening all across the country,” said Mitchell. “It's clear that this was a wave election. And inside of that wave are a number of independent, progressive-minded folks who didn't wait their turn, who are willing to fight for working people.” Similarly, Litman argued that Democrats need to embrace a big tent that includes progressive voices. "You need candidates who know what they believe, who know how to communicate, who love the place they're running, and who can articulate why voters should want them to win,” she said.Litman continued, “Does every candidate need to have the exact same ideological profile? No. But also, the person who's running and winning a seat on the Iowa City Council is probably not a good fit for the New York City Council, and vice versa. And that's OK. To be a party that can win everywhere, which is what we need to be in order to stop authoritarianism and stop what the Republican Party has done, we need to have a big tent.” Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join. SEASON 4 EPISODE 31: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Do you want to hear the real lesson of this week’s Democratic landslide? Mamdani ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Sherrill ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Spanberger ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Prop 50 won on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Hey, you can do both at the same time! Who knew? Not difficult. Easy to remember. Useful on all occasions. Worked in New York, where they elected a socialist when only a quarter of the voters say they are socialists. Worked in Virginia, where they elected as governor an ex-congresswoman born in Jersey. Worked in Jersey, where they elected as a governor an ex-congresswoman born in Virginia. Money Issues, and Trump Equals Death. Useful on all occasions. It’s a floor wax AND a dessert topping. Of course the context is just as much fun as the lesson. That's becauseTrump not only doesn’t realize he got the S kicked out of him, but he doesn’t realize he’s already forced himself to both end the government shutdown and lose the government shutdown. “Trump wasn’t on the ballot,” Trump screamed. “And ‘Shutdown’… were the two reasons that Republicans lost elections...” Ah, poor Trump. Metaphorically, Trump not only was on the ballot - every ballot but he was on the ballot in the worst possible way. Everybody could vote no on him, but it was almost impossible to vote YES. The lame duck politician’s worst nightmare. And right now no duck is lamer than Trump. Democrats: run on your money issues and that Trump equals death. It’s a floor wax and a dessert topping! ALSO: No, I am not going to sanewash Dick Cheney, even after his passing. Yes, at the end, when it was loyalty to the country or Trump he chose the country and it's good to finish strong. But I will still remember him for that 9/11-Iraq exploitation thing. And I am still proud that - as you'll hear - I pissed him off enough as Vice President for him to publicly clap back. B-Block (30:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Roger Stone, who helped advance the deplorable Laura Loomer, is now shocked she's deplorable. Similarly Ben Shapiro, who helped sell Tucker Carlson's evil to the far right, is now shocked he's evil. And I-Never-Winsome Earle-Sears and scabby Fox host Charlie Hurt think Barack Obama not voting for her when he voted for Kamala Harris is hypocritical (so...Earle-Sears voted for Kamala, and Hurt voted for Spanberger?) C-Block (40:30) SPORTSBALLCENTER: You probably aren't interested in my thoughts on the latest new selection committee and the latest eight nominees for baseball's Hall of Fame (though I have many of them). But you may be entertained by the sagas of the previous selection committees and the legend of how the ex-players on them used to cast "courtesy votes" for their old buddies and one year Ted Williams and the others screwed up and accidentally cast way too many of them for a not-so-Hall-of-Famish catcher named Rick Ferrell and he actually got elected.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Virginia's outgoing governor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, had lunch with the Democratic Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger Thursday. It's part of a long-running tradition that both said was pleasant and part of a healthy transition of power. Brad Kutner has this report.
Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on Wednesday's 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they break down Democrats' bigger-than-expected wins in Virginia and New Jersey, Zohran Mamdani coasting to victory in New York City, and several ballot initiatives that mostly went the wrong way.First, they dig into Virginia, where Democrat Abigail defeated Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears by nearly 15 points, outperforming every major poll. That landslide also helped rage texter Jay Jones win the attorney general's race by six points, while Democrats picked up 13 seats in the state legislature. In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill beat Jack Ciattarelli by 13 points. The wins were not shocking, but the margins were, and Scot and Greg break down what those results mean heading into 2026.Next, they come to grips with Zohran Mamdani winning the New York City mayor's race by taking comfort that Andrew Cuomo won't be mayor. They also highlight some very ominous indications of what's to come from Mamdani's victory speech. Dems will undoubtedly try to mimic his smiley socialism in some parts of the country next year. Are Republicans ready to fight it?Finally, they analyze key ballot measures across the country, including strong conservative victories in Texas protecting parental rights and requiring proof of citizenship to vote. But not all results went the right way, as Gavin Newsom's gerrymander gimmick passed easily in California, and Colorado voters approved a tax hike on the wealthy to fund free school meals. Please visit our great sponsors:Give your liver the support it deserves with Dose Daily. Credits:Theme Music: Reha Omayer, HamburgFind us on:Facebook: AmerikaUebersetztX (Twitter): @AUbersetztContact us:amerikauebersetzt@gmail.com

On today's podcast:1) Zohran Mamdani’s lead heading into the New York City mayoral election has withstood a furious push from Republicans, establishment Democrats and a coalition of Wall Street dealmakers. Aspects of Mamdani’s campaign that some thought would doom his candidacy — his vociferous criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza, his past calls to defund the police and his refusal to flee from the political label of socialist — haven’t turned off a plurality of New York voters, despite a torrent of campaign spending from some of the city’s wealthiest residents. Instead, the 34-year-old assemblyman’s campaign — with its focus on core economic concerns combined with an online charm offensive and occasional searing barb at his critics — is working well enough that some political observers see a model for future Democratic candidates and races. Nationally, Tuesday’s results could provide a muddled message for Democrats. 2) Governors’ races in Virginia and New Jersey and California’s redistricting ballot measure are among the elections on ballots Tuesday, providing a barometer of voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. While Mamdani’s progressive campaign has given him a lead in New York, the candidates leading the polls in governor’s races in New Jersey and Virginia — Representative Mikie Sherrill and former Representative Abigail Spanberger, respectively — come from the more centrist range of the Democratic spectrum. The race in New Jersey has tightened in the past few weeks between Democratic Representative Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli, as voters express dismay over high electricity bills and general affordability issues under the state’s current Democratic governor. Republicans would love to eke out a victory there — even as polls narrowly favor Sherrill — after President Donald Trump endorsed Ciattarelli and called him “100% (PLUS!)” on the MAGA agenda. In Virginia, Democratic Representative Abigail Spanberger looks likely to prevail over the Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears. The huge number of federal workers in Northern Virginia, frustrated by the government shutdown and the DOGE cuts, gave Spanberger a built-in constituency. And she’s made sure to talk about issues key to local voters — inflation, schools, health care — rather than solely going with an anti-Trump message. If Democrats lose one of these races, expect even more hand-wringing over the party’s tarnished national brand and its inability to capitalize on Trump’s unpopularity.3) As the government shutdown enters its 34th day, lawmakers face mounting pressure to reach a resolution. Major US airports are facing staffing shortages leading to ground delays, the distribution of food assistance is up in the air, and more federal workers are missing paychecks as the shutdown is on track to become the longest in history. Senators are increasingly optimistic about finding a path to reopen the government, but any resolution will likely have to wait until after tomorrow’s off-year elections, which could sway either side to move depending on the results.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Governor Glenn Youngkin of the Commonwealth of Virginia joined The Guy Benson Show today to discuss the latest on the state of Virginia, including tomorrow's gubernatorial election and the ongoing redistricting fight in VA. On the ongoing redistricting battle in Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin discussed how nonpartisan voter representation is being overridden by partisan maneuvering by Democrats in the state. Youngkin called out Abigail Spanberger for flipping her stance on redistricting after receiving major financial backing from the very effort she once criticized. Gov. Youngkin also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Democratic AG candidate Jay Jones, whose vile texts wishing death on political opponents have drawn widespread outrage, praising Attorney General Jason Miyares for taking a firm stand and shared numbers encouraging to Miyares' race. Youngkin also discussed the heated gubernatorial race between Winsome Earle-Sears and Spanberger, explaining why he believes Sears can make up ground in the final stretch. Youngkin also pushed back on Barack Obama's calls for "civility" as the former president continues to endorse Spanberger despite her silence on Jones' behavior. Listen to the full interview below! It's Halloween weekend, and nothing is scarier than the possibility of a socialist gaining power over America's biggest city. On Tuesday, millions of New Yorkers will have the opportunity to choose the future they want for the Big Apple. Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and Independent Andrew Cuomo are all running to be New York's next mayor. If the polls are even close to accurate, Mamdani, a candidate who has made promises to freeze rent and introduce government-run grocery stores, will be the next mayor of New York City. In addition to the Big Apple, voters in Virginia and New Jersey are choosing their next governors on Tuesday. Jessica Furst Johnson, a partner and co-chair of the political law practice at Lex Politica, joins “Problematic Women” this week to break down each election and assess who ran the best campaign. Also on today's show, President Donald Trump has just returned from Asia, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. We explain the big takeaways from the trip and what the future could hold for U.S.-China relations. Plus, Americans have just celebrated Halloween. No election in 2025 has been more impacted by the Trump presidency than the elections in Virginia. This state doesn't vote for MAGA candidates anymore, but their nominee for governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, isn't really campaigning like that. So one of Sarah's favorite Democrats, Abigail Spanberger, looks poised for a solid win on Election Day. Meanwhile in the Attorney General race, the Republican incumbent, Jason Miyares could pull off an unexpected comeback, so we talked to voters who are splitting their tickets between Spanberger and Miyares. Former Richmond Times-Dispatch columnist and University of Virginia Center for Politics scholar Jeff Schapiro joins the show to put this year's election in the context of Virginia's broad political evolution. Show notes: Jeff Schapiro in Crystal Ball: The Virginia Elections: Plenty of Late Drama, Although Not at the Top of the Ticket

Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they assess the GOP's improving poll numbers during the shutdown, distinctly different poll numbers in Virgini, and Bill Kristol disgracing himself to the point of endorsing Zohran Mamdani.First, they're pleasantly surprised to see poll numbers showing Americans think better of Republicans and the GOP in Congress right now than they did before the shutdown. Independents are more bullish on Republicans too. With a simple message and many more ways for voters to get their news, the old strategies aren't working for Democrats anymore.Next, they dig into poll numbers showing a 10-point lead for Democrat Abigail Spanberger over Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears in the Virginia governor's race. Meanwhile, GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares leads by eight points. Are there really that many ticket splitters in Virginia? They also wonder why Sears has not spoken much about what she and Gov. Glenn Youngkin accomplished over the past four years, when Youngkin remains a popular governor. Finally, they shake their heads as former Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol completes his transformation from supposed conservative to leftist lapdog as he endorses Mamdani for mayor. Jim and Greg explain how some conservatives who dislike Trump kept their conservative policy positions while others, like Kristol, abandoned everything they ever claimed to believe in hopes of being embraced by the left. Please visit our great sponsors:Cancel unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster with Rocket Money at https://RocketMoney.com/MARTINI Build your fall sanctuary of comfort with Boll and Branch. We're just about a week out from Election Day, and I have to say, this is what I live for. These are the kind of stories that really scratch the itch for anybody who loves the game of politics as much as I do. We've got real contests, real dollars behind them, and actual electoral stakes. Yes, I know it's not a presidential year, but this is the sandbox where some serious groundwork gets laid. And for as much as I hate the off-off-year calendar, I love election season more than anything. Here's my breakdown of where I think the chips are going to fall in November.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Starting in California, we've got Prop 50. Gavin Newsom has staked a big chunk of political capital on this one. It's pitched as a pushback on Republican redistricting, with the messaging ultimately landing on “protecting America from Trump.” What started off messy got refined quickly, and with Newsom's team sticking the landing, I see a 10 to 15 point win. McCarthy was supposed to pour in $100 million to fight it, but as of now, the actual spending is suspiciously light. All that adds up to a clear Democratic win.Now onto Virginia: Winsome Earl Sears vs. Abigail Spanberger. I'm heading up to D.C. this weekend, and originally thought I'd be bouncing around Virginia to catch campaign stops. But Sears? She's nowhere to be found. Spanberger, while not the most electrifying candidate, has managed to avoid major blunders post-Jay Jones scandal. The polling tells a consistent story; Spanberger holding a lead that's grown since the scandal broke. I'm calling it Spanberger by eight. Could be tighter, but it's hard to see Sears overcoming the fundamentals working against her.As for Jay Jones, man, what a collapse. DUI, community service for his own super PAC, and leaked texts about shooting a rival politician? That's how you lose an election. Miyares hasn't trailed since that story broke. Nate Silver might be holding out hope, pointing to early voting and ticket-splitting, but my money's on Miyares by one. A close one, but still a loss for Jones. This scandal made a difference, period.New Yorkers better get ready for Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He hasn't been behind at all in public polling, all while Cuomo is clawing for relevance. Meanwhile, Curtis Sliwa isn't pulling enough Republican support to matter to anyone but Cuomo. The energy just isn't there for a last-minute surprise. Mamdani by 13.And then there's New Jersey. The Mikie Sherrill vs. Jack Ciattarelli race is the sleeper of the night. Sherrill has led for most of the race, but recent polling has things tightening. Trafalgar and Coefficient both show her up by one. Republicans are feeling bullish, and if this ends within three points, they'll have reason to. That would mean New Jersey, at minimum, becomes a fringe battleground in 2028. Not quite Arizona-level swing, but enough to force Democrats to spend real money defending it. I'm predicting Sherrill wins — but just barely.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:03:32 - Election Predictions00:23:08 - Update00:24:53 - Trade Deals00:30:58 - Shutdown00:38:10 - Israel00:44:36 - Interview with Austin Padgett01:38:03 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. NBA Betting Scandal One of the most explosive sports scandals in recent memory: a massive NBA betting and poker rigging investigation led by the FBI. Clay and Buck break down the details of a multi-year probe that resulted in over 30 arrests across 11 states, involving current and former NBA players and coaches, including Portland Trailblazers head coach Chauncey Billups, former player and coach Damon Jones, and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier. The scandal spans illegal gambling operations, insider betting schemes, and mafia-run poker games using high-tech cheating devices like x-ray tables, contact lenses, and altered shuffling machines. Clay explains how the FBI uncovered two interconnected cases: one involving the mob rigging high-stakes poker games with tens of millions of dollars at stake, and another exposing NBA players manipulating game performance for prop bets, such as Rozier allegedly leaving a game early after signaling insiders. The hosts discuss the staggering stupidity of risking a $26 million NBA salary for $200,000 in illicit winnings, and why legalized sports betting may actually help catch these schemes by flagging irregular wagering patterns. Oppression Olympics An in-depth look at the Virginia Governor’s race, dissecting conflicting polls on Abigail Spanberger and why Democrats are sounding alarms despite media narratives of a comfortable lead. The hosts mock MSNBC’s claim that Spanberger’s struggles stem from sexism, pointing out that she’s running against another woman and citing examples of women winning major races nationwide. They argue Democrats are leaning on identity politics rather than addressing policy failures. The conversation pivots to Spanberger’s refusal to call for the resignation of Jay Jones, the Democratic Attorney General candidate embroiled in a text scandal advocating political violence. Clay warns Virginians that Spanberger is a far-left candidate masquerading as moderate, predicting radical policies on gender identity and sports if she wins. This leads to a fiery discussion on transgender athletes, spotlighting a shocking Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that unanimously allowed a male powerlifter to compete in women’s competitions, citing “human rights.” Clay and Buck slam this as emblematic of the left’s strategy to impose gender ideology through state power, comparing it to COVID-era mandates and warning of broader cultural consequences. Rep. Jim Jordan The ongoing government shutdown, now in its 23rd day, with Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan joining the show to explain why Democrats are holding the line—fear of primaries from the far-left and leveraging issues like Obamacare subsidies. Jordan predicts the shutdown could last until November and blasts Democrats’ Trump Derangement Syndrome as a driving force. Jordan also drops bombshell news: a criminal referral against former CIA Director John Brennan for allegedly lying under oath about the Steele dossier during the Russia investigation. He details evidence showing Brennan pushed for the dossier’s inclusion despite knowing it was unreliable, framing it as part of a broader pattern of anti-Trump bias. The discussion then shifts to Trump’s record in his second term, with Jordan calling it “the most impactful year of any presidency,” citing achievements on tax cuts, border security, Iran policy, and ending men in women’s sports. The hour closes with a quick revisit of the NBA betting scandal, contrasting today’s corruption with Pete Rose’s infamous wagers, and a nuanced debate on whether athletes betting on themselves should be treated differently. Clay explains why leagues ban all player gambling to prevent debt-driven corruption, noting referees as historically vulnerable due to lower salaries. Gov't Shutdown Realities The latest on the government shutdown, now stretching into weeks, as Clay and Buck dissect explosive remarks from Democratic House Whip Katherine Clark, who admitted the shutdown is being used as “leverage.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson fires back, accusing Democrats of holding American families hostage to push for $200 billion in Obamacare subsidies and benefits for illegal immigrants. The hosts argue this political brinkmanship is driven by internal Democratic fears—Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries worried about primary challenges from the far-left, especially after Mamdani’s surprise victory in the New York City mayoral primary, which shook the party establishment. The conversation pivots to the New York City mayor’s race, analyzing the fiery second debate featuring Curtis Sliwa, Andrew Cuomo, and Mamdani. Clay praises Sliwa’s populist message but warns that staying in the race could guarantee a Mamdani win. They highlight Cuomo and Sliwa pressing Mamdani on housing ballot initiatives, exposing his evasiveness and lack of clear policy positions. Clay brands Momani as a “cipher”—a social media-savvy candidate with no substantive record—contrasting him with Cuomo’s long political history.
