Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. Every year on the Dom Giordano Program on Philadelphia's 1210WPHT, Dom awards his Local and National 'Person of the Year' to a regular guest for what they've done within the past year. This year, Dom will announce a Readin' Writin' Reason Person of the Year as well, a guest from our podcast who listeners deem the best guest from the last year. We will have three podcasts announcing two nominees each, with listeners voting for who should move on each week, narrowing down to a final three by the end of the year. First up, Dom replays an interview with new Central Bucks School District President Dana Hunter, who joined the daily show and podcast to discuss her continued fight against advocacy groups hoping to infuse hyper-political and oftentimes explicit material into school curricula. Then, Dom plays back an interview with Tim Daly, a Pennsbury, PA parent who recently won a lawsuit against the school district after being repeatedly silenced, along with other parents, when speaking out against the school board. Tim Daly takes us inside the back and forth between the legal team representing the parents and the school board, telling about the instrumentations that led to a settlement in favor of the parents. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. First, Dom welcomes New Jersey State Senator Holly Schepisi back onto the podcast for an update on her effort to push back against new radical sexual education curriculum standards for children instituted by Governor Phil Murphy. First, Schepisi explains why she's taken upon this fight, telling of the importance of equality and acceptance while stressing the importance of allowing parents to raise children the way they would like. Then, Schepisi offers some examples of books that she feels pushes the line too far in sexual education, explaining the explicit material. Also, Schepisi tells about some of the programs being instituted in schools that push the envelope in sexual nature, telling why parents have come to her taking issue with what's being taught to their children.      Then, Dom welcomes back Tim Daly, a Pennsbury, PA parent, who recently settled a lawsuit against the school district after being repeatedly silenced, along with other parents, when speaking out against the school board. Tim Daly takes us inside the back and forth between the legal team representing the parents and the school board, telling about the instrumentations that led to a settlement in favor of the parents. Then, Tim tells about the checks awarded to the parents, explaining the symbolic nature of a payout that was adjusted slightly, with Giordano wondering whether that was intentional or an accident. Also, Daly tells about threats levied toward his family throughout the entire situation, including gunfire outside his house, and tells how he hopes this changes how school boards interact with parents moving forward.

This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. This week, Dom is first joined by Broad+Liberty reporter Todd Shepherd, to discuss a fantastic investigation into the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program in the Bensalem school district. In his piece, Shepherd uncovered that the Bensalem Township School District paid a consulting firm over $100,000 to a consulting firm for an ‘Equity Review,' in effort to develop a plan alongside the districts new DEI committee. Todd takes us through what he discovered, and gives us a temperature of the town of Bensalem, explaining what has led to the decision to implement such a committee. Then, Pennsbury parents Simon Campbell and Tim Daly return to the podcast. Both join to reveal an injunction granted by a federal judge, which invalidates the Pennsbury school board from utilizing policy 903 to silence public comment. For a long time now on the Dom Giordano Program and Readin' Writin' and Reason, Dom has played clips of contentious debate between Campbell, Daly, and Pennsbury's solicitor, who has repeatedly silenced parents during the open comment portion of school board meetings. Then, Dobbs and Giordano discuss the changing landscape of political rhetoric and why Dobbs felt he still needed to get his voice out there, and discuss individual topics playing out in the political sphere, including strife at school board meetings and whether Trump will throw his hat back into the ring. In the third hour, Fox News legal analyst Andy McCarthy hops onto the Dom Giordano Program to break down updates in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. Earlier today, the defense filed a second motion for a mistrial centered on a piece of evidence in the trial, being a video of drone footage used as evidence. McCarthy explains that the defense allegedly didn't receive the particular piece of evidence prior to it being slipped into the docket, which would be a violation. Also, McCarthy breaks down the trial itself, forecasting the jury's verdict in the trial, pointing to questions by the jury that may tip their hand in a potential decision. Then, Giordano gets word regarding a lawsuit filed against the Pennsbury School Board concerning freedom of speech, and tells that regular guests Tim Daly and Simon Campbell have received an injunction invalidating Board Policy 903, which Pennsbury's solicitor relied on to silence parents in the district. This week, Dom spends time speaking with those in the know, people who have experienced much of what we're seeing first-hand before, and have fought back in their own ways. This week, Dom is first joined by Denisha Merriweather, Director of Public Relations at the American Federation for Children and Founder of Black Minds Matter. Merriweather joins Readin', Writin', and Reason to discuss a piece she penned in support of school choice for the Washington Examiner. The issue, which has been used as a wedge issue in the realm of political debate on racial topics, is often talked down upon by Democrats and has been eluded to as outright racist. Merriweather explains the benefits that advancing such a political cause would bring to communities of color, and offers why she believes the push against school choice remains consistent. For more from Denisha Merriweather, head to BlackMindsMatter.net. Then, a listener favorite, Simon Campbell returns to Readin', Writin', and Reason for an update on the school board situation in Pennsbury, PA. Campbell, along with other citizens and the Institute for Free Speech, has filed suit against his local school board for overbearing tactics and First Amendment violations by board leaders and their solicitor. Campbell provides an update, and tells what his group hopes to accomplish in bringing the new lawsuit. For more on the lawsuit, head to IFS.org. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Simon Campbell, former school board member in Pennsbury, rejoins the Dom Giordano Program for an update on the continued strife between parents and board members in the Pennsylvania town. Campbell went viral back in June after he gave an impassioned speech about the school district's shady behavior and radical policies with no input from parents. After multiple instances of questionable behavior by the board, Campbell, along with the Institute for Free Speech, filed a federal First Amendment Rights lawsuit against the district. Clarice Schillinger, a local mother who founded Keeping Kids in School and now heads up the Back to School PA PAC, returns to the Dom Giordano Program for an update after local investor Paul Martino donated half a million dollars to help grassroots school board candidates in races against candidates backed heavily by school boards. Since the culmination and announcement of the Back to School PA initiative, over 40 advocates have reached out, with Clarice interviewing over 30 candidates for $10,000 checks throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Clarice notes that parents are fired up, tired of being treated the way they are in school board meetings, and the only thing that can change in schools is by electing school board members that represent the voters rather than teachers unions. Then, Clarice forecasts the situation in schools, bringing us through hotly contested school board meetings throughout the state, explaining what is happening in towns such as Pennsbury. Finally, Clarice explains what getting involved entails, and tells what she looks for when considering candidates for the $10,000 foundation. Simon Campbell, former school board member and self-proclaimed “Government's (Least) Favorite Pain-in-the-Arse,” joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a moment at the Pennsbury school board meeting last week that went viral. In a meeting, Campbell was involved in an incredibly fiery and moving 5-minute exchange pointing to the lack of freedom of discussion in school boards, particularly around the implementation of critical race theory.  Campbell takes us through his time spent on the school board, and tells of a situation in which he was called names. After being called “Margaret Thatcher's bastard child,” other members on the board wanted to prevent the tape from being posted online. Campbell instead signed a release ensuring the release of the video, completely opposite to behavior we're seeing now in which board members are looking to silence citizens from expressing their thoughts in public comment periods. Also, Campbell discusses his usage of the Right To Know Act to acquire inside information about the politics and shady behavior of local school boards, and urges listeners to do the same for their local districts. He attended West Chester University and graduated with a degree in education, and after two years of teaching in the city of Philadelphia, Ryan returned to Pennsbury where he has served as a Language Arts teacher and head basketball coach at William Penn Middle School for the past 10 years. Coach Hohman has established a reputation as a dedicated and passionate teacher both in the classroom and on the court. He has established Lady Falcons Elite Hoops to offer the level of basketball instruction that the girls of his beloved community deserve. Ryan was frustrated with the lack of attention the leaders of the youth basketball program were giving to the girls side of the program They did a bunch of research on how to start a non-profit, did a Gofundme, and launched program with 250+ girls in the 1st year and going into year 3 they will have 450+ girls! Coaching your own kids 'You told me to pass more' - Ryan was very stubborn when his dad coached him, and one time after scoring 27 points, his dad told him to pass more, so for the next couple games Ryan overreacted and took it to the opposite spectrum Ryan goes with the 'I love to watch you play' after coaching his daughters Ryan wants 'Try-hards' - kids that give it their all My Cringe Moments Most of all of Ryan's cringe moments are sarcastic things he said to refs The second thing was he used to take the results of all the games way too personally Teaching Skills You have to establish what the core fundamentals are that the level of kids you are coaching need Make skill work fun and turn it into a game With smaller kids it often starts with their feet! Good game: Defensive slide duck-duck-goose: So you play the normal game but have to do defensive slide when running around the circle. Another good game: Jump stop Mr. Fox Mental Toughness/Achieving Peak Performance Biggest thing a coach can do to help his kids: SMILE. Remind them that this is fun Jay Bilas' book Toughness talks about 'Next Play' - you can't worry about previous plays, bad calls, etc. - you need to focus on the Next Play All you can control is yourself and preparation, so don't worry about things outside of your control Culture – Discipline/Rewards/Teambuilding Anytime they refer to people involved in the program they talk about the LFE Family. They constantly hashtag #LFEFamily Establishing mentors within the program - Have the older girls connect with the younger girls The standard is that everyone is going to work hard Connecting with and Impacting Kids Ryan coached a team that had a really tough situation with a girl who had a serious eating disorder - the team rallied around helping this girl out and it actually brought the team together The One that got away They have one team that spooks his girls - the best thing he has found is just to be prepared. Best borrowed/stolen idea Rick Pitino - 'As I go through practice, I try to make corrections in 7 seconds or less.' There needs to be a rhythm and pace to your practice. For youth- maybe this needs to be 20 seconds.
