When was the last time you did a review of your character? Do the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians look like you? Gentleness is one of the fruits that is often overlooked. When we look to Jesus, we find our model for living with gentleness. For more information, visit lakepointe.church/dailydrive

A new MP3 sermon from Calvary Baptist Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Meekness - Power Under Control Subtitle: Fruit of the Spirit Speaker: Jeremiah Cochran Broadcaster: Calvary Baptist Church Event: Midweek Service Date: 8/23/2023 Bible: Galatians 5:23 Length: 35 min.
Many people long to live for God and yet wonder how they can know exactly how close they are to doing it. This raises questions like, “How can I know when I'm really living out the Christian life?” and, “Am I letting God work in my life to help me live for Him, and what are the indicators that let me know it's happening?” Are there signs that indicate whether we are living out the Christian life? Are there markers that can measure how well we're living it out? The answer is that there are, and perhaps the best measure is found in a life that expresses the nine Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23. These nine attributes (or fruit) serve as proof of how effective we are at allowing God to work in our lives, and that's because when we fully surrender to Him, these traits are expressed more clearly and strongly than when we don't live for Him. In this series, we will overview what the Fruit of The Spirit are, unpack how each of these nine fruit work, and explore how they can reveal how close we are to God and how well we're allowing Him to work in our lives. When we embrace these fruit, we will live a Fruit(Full) life!
In our culture we have redefined the word Gentleness to connote something weak or fragile. Originally Gentleness came from a Greek word meaning power under control. This is the meaning the Bible has in mind when it speaks of Gentleness. This week, our speaker from East Side Christian Church in Anaheim, California, Gene Appel is teaching about how God wants to build Peace, Patience, and Power Under Control of the Holy Spirit in us! Throughout this series I Know It When I See It we are discovering how there are some things that are just better seen than defined, described, or explained. When the character traits the Holy Spirit wants to produce in us; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control are visible and tangible in our lives, people will stand back and say, Oh, so THAT'S what it looks like. "Everyone here, everyone on this earth has a light that's buried inside of them. And it's our goal to get back to that child that we once were, that had goals, dreams, aspirations before the world destroyed our our vision, and put that fear of failure on us."– Jacob Brown, Transformational SpeakerIn this edition of 'Iron Sharpens Iron', James highlights 3 life lessons from his interview with Jacob Brown.1. In order to #failforward, you first have to try.Jacob's platform is “fail forward.” It's the concept that when you fail, you're still learning and as long as you keep going, you're making progress toward your goals or dreams. But the truth is you won't make progress if you let fear stop you from even trying. The fear of failure will keep you on the sidelines, keep you out of the game. You have to be willing to put yourself out there and risk being embarrassed, or failing. 2. The clay and mud that hides your gifts are part of your story. When Jacob talked about the Golden Buddha, he makes a point that when you overcome self doubt and self-imposed limitations, that your story shows others what's possible. It inspires to believe that maybe, “I can do it, too!”That's the connectedness of the human existence. Other people inspire us to try the thing that we don't feel qualified for because we see the difficulty they had to go through; the resilience and perseverance and grit it took.As the clay and the mud that conceals your God-given gifts starts to chip away you start to think differently, act differently, relate differently, believe differently.3. Meekness is power under control.--------------** Confidence Covered By Humility is a podcast by James Mayhew for anyone who wants to lead their business, their team and their home with humble confidence.Connect with James on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesrmayhew/High Performance Workplace Culture Video Serieshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBGgrjEdy18&list=PL_CshlQDwEH7r-H281v9MkXSspjlihgmHWebsitehttps://jamesmayhew.com

Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness..."
Easter 2023 - Luke 19:28-40: If you are a Christian, do you trust Jesus? If you don't identify as a Christian or hold another religious belief, do you trust the idea of Jesus? Who he was? What he did? What he taught? A different take on the question: Do you trust Jesus as king? As an authority? Think about the last time you were betrayed or hurt by someone in authority or by a collective authority? Do you trust power structures? Statistically, there is a high level of distrust for institutional authority. Some of it is understandably placed. So, what does the Kingship of Jesus have to do with a 21st century Calgarian when we have trust issues? The author of the Gospel of Luke, I believe, would point to Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey or colt. So will we. See you this weekend?

In this episode, I read a teaching by Pastor John MacArthur. one that has made a huge impact on me. The Lowly Walk. http://www.gty.org/library/sermons-library/1923 Some people will say to me, “You know, that's really wonderful, and appreciate that message. It's so ministered to me.” And as soon as they walk by, another person will come up and say, “Did you feel poorly today?” “You didn't seem like you were yourself. It just – something was missing.” You know? You just really don't know. And so, it kind of tends to cancel itself out. But it was interesting to me; the last couple of weeks I realized that I haven't been going very fast. In fact, we've been in the first couple of verses here for weeks, and it's amazing. But it's interesting to see the response. Last week I intended to preach the message that I'll go ahead and preach this morning, if I get done with this introduction. But I didn't. I just digressed, and I just kind of shared my heart. And I've done that now three or four times since I was away in Brazil, and even before that, God was doing some things in my own heart. And it's been interesting, because some people will write me. And I got a wonderful letter. I picked one up even in my little box this morning. It said, “Thank you so much for stopping in the midst of this to share the things that are on your heart and make it practical. God has really ministered to me.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/youreprobablyright/message

Have we gotten Jesus' teaching all wrong? When he taught us "blessed are the meek", did he intend his followers to become powerless doormats? How then could we inherit the earth? Wouldn't it be better to stand up for ourselves and overcome evil through might? That's the way many Western Christians are leaning these days. In this teaching we look more carefully into Christ's teaching on meekness and discover our call to a lifestyle of power under control. What might it look like if you lived and engaged in this way this week?

Lagniappe: Power Under Control by River of Life Fellowship
This morning we continue our sermon series from Matthew 5:1-12. Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth, verse 5. Meekness is not the same thing as weakness.! The word used for meek describes a horse that has been broken. It means 'Power Under Control'. It also carries with it, the idea of sincere humility. Actually, Jesus is referencing something that God had already spoken to the Psalmist in the OT. Psalm 37:1-11. A little while the wicked will be no more. Though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace." Please now listen to my podcast.

Jesus promises joy, happiness and blessings to those who are meek and gentle, yet the world seems to offer just the opposite. Those who chose the path of following Jesus will always exhibit meekness, but just what does that really mean and if Jesus described himself as meek - what happened when he overturned the tables in the temple? What about when he confronted the religious leaders? Believe it our not those two instances were probably the greatest examples of His meekness. Listen in to discover what meekness really means and how a life of meekness can not only eliminate stress and heartache but also comes with a promise for those who pursue it. From Matthew 5:5
