"Not so the wicked!" With these solemn words, the Psalmist draws a sharp contrast between the godly and the ungodly. The righteous are like fruitful trees--rooted, nourished, and prosperous. But "the wicked are like chaff that the wind blows away." Chaff is the worthless husk separated from grain--light, dry, and empty. It is easily scattered and quickly forgotten. Such is every life lived apart from God: rootless, fruitless, and ultimately futile. However impressive the wicked may appear for a season, their prosperity is short-lived, and their end is destruction! (Psalm 73:18-19) The wicked "will not stand in the judgment." They will have no defense, no covering, no hope. When they stand before the Judge of all the earth, their works will be burned up as stubble. All their excuses will be silenced. The day of judgment will reveal what they are: rebels against the Most High God, having rejected His Son and despised His Word. They will not be counted "in the assembly of the righteous." They may have mingled with the godly on earth--but in the last day, the Shepherd will infallibly separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:32). Their exclusion will be eternal. "For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish." Here is the final contrast. The Lord lovingly and attentively watches over the path of His redeemed people. He guards their steps, directs their course, and brings them safely home. But the way of the wicked--though it may seem smooth for a time--leads only to ruin! Their end is not annihilation, but everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46). The broad road may appear pleasant, but it descends into outer darkness, with w

Psalm 92 reminds us that life is short but a Christian's presence can be enduring. From our perspective, our lives are here today, gone tomorrow, like husks. However, God's people are the kernel, filling the world with his presence. And we do our best work shouldering the world's purpose on the day we rest.   […]

Finding Spiritual Truth In A Crazed World - When We Don't Like Difficult

Mary Lindow ~ The Messenger Podcast

By Mary Lindow The words, “The Harsh Winds of Life”  have been playing themselves over and over in my mind. As I have pondered them and have allowed the Voice of the Holy Spirit to instruct me as to why I have been impressed with this statement, I sense the Lord addressing many deeper issues that are well anchored and maintained within our souls as believers.   HARSH WINDS These blustery currents in the natural can be devastating to property, trees, and all living-breathing creatures. We have all seen what the devastation of hurricanes and tornadoes can do in a very short amount of time. Often when listening to the traumatic stories of those who have lived through a nightmarish storm, the realities of what they hold near and dear have been laid bear and brought to the surface. Many weep over the loss of family photographs or tender things like Grandma's old chipped china and are unconcerned about larger material items, but are deeply thankful for the safety of family members after a traumatic event. Others, are shaking fists at the sky and are enraged that they have been infringed upon during a difficult time, and want somebody else to pay for it!   THE HARSH WINDS OF LIFE BLOW UPON THE GODLY AND THE UNGODLY.  NO ONE IS EXEMPT. There are some of life's storms that threaten to blow away everything we've depended on as well. Friendships are tested, relationships are strained, and the Lord uses these harsh winds blowing against our lives to remove the crusty chaff that can form and harden around the seed of our lives. Those who are independent in nature find a bitterness creeping into their attitudes and heart. They feel infringed upon when things are not easily controlled or maneuvered in their favor. And so, the Holy Spirit allows the winds to blow until a conviction penetrates the self centered soul, and exposes the fleshy comfort zone of, ‘My Way, My World, My Rights”! "No man has power over the wind to contain it;  So no one has power over the day of his death.  And no one is discharged in time of war,  So wickedness will not release those who practice it." -Ecclesiastes 8:8   HOW LONG WILL THE HARSH WINDS BLOW? As long as we practice wicked behavior in the eyes of the Lord, and no matter how hard we try, we cannot stop it! He is winnowing us, allowing us to be caught up into the refining wind of the Holy Spirit's conviction so that the chaff and waste places in our souls are removed. And trust me my friends, anything that you may be hiding or pretending wasn't “that bad”, that harmed someone else, well God will allow it to come to the light to be either judged or to be cleansed and yes, there may be consequences that you don't like.   WE CAN'T HARM OTHER PEOPLE, OR ABUSE THEM, SEXUALLY PREY UPON THEM, SPIRITUALLY ABUSE AND DOMINATE OR SLANDER, and then pretend that it wasn't “that big of a deal”! It's a huge deal to God and he will continue to pursue us in order to cleanse us if we will allow him access. (Yes you can say "ouch" right about now!)   CHAFF MUST BE REMOVED.  BUT WHY? Chaff is a waste material plowed into the soil or burned. Chaff, as a waste product from grain processing, shows us a symbolic use of the idea that refers to something seen as worthless. Now, this is where we read, "to separate the wheat from the chaff" from Matthew 3. It means to separate things of value from things of no value. Another example is in Psalm 1 which says: "Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away".   WE CHRISTIANS OFTEN PRESUME THAT BECAUSE WE ARE REDEEMED THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL SACRIFICE OF CHRIST FOR OUR LIVES, THAT WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR AN EASIER AND MORE PRIVILEGED LIFE. This is simply not so! We are given a shield and a holy stamina to withstand the wiles of this world, but no free passes to a life of ease.   THE LORD LOVES ALL OF MANKIND. He longs for ALL of mankind, (that includes you and I) to come to a place of trust in His way, not “our way”. Fully stripped of self-will, self-gratification, self- justification, and self-focus. Matthew 5:45 says~  “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, And sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”   I KNOW! I KNOW! THIS STINGS! "But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth." James 3:14 About now, I can hear a few righteous folks saying, "I would never boast about envy! " Well! Selfish ambition is well hidden in our personal behaviors. We offer gifts or opportunities for others to be blessed or helped as long as we are feeling in control and benevolent at the time of the offer or good intention. But when the winds of life shift and the Lord allows the chaff of "waste materials" in our soul to be Tornadoed —bitterness and exclusive rights abound! Huffiness, abrupt harshness and passive aggression (which means getting even) will manifest and expose the soul's clinging nature, which does not want the hand of God striping away any safety veneer that we use to protect our approach to life.   A CHANGE IN THE SPIRITUAL CLIMATE HAS OCCURRED! John 6:18 says, “A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.” Jesus allowed the wind to be a teaching point for his disciples. They had walked with Him, talked with Him and served alongside Him. But trusting Him when the Storms and Harsh winds blew revealed a weakness that we all must look at, and often. We trust the Lord when things are going our way, but when the Harshness of a storm blows us off the course that we set, many times we run to our own devices or “Plan B”.   SO MANY AT THIS TIME IN THIS DIFFICULT AGE ARE SCREAMING, “Lord! Don't you care about me? The winds are blowing, and I am fearful for my life! If you Love me, why are you allowing this horrid event to occur?” Even Peter in his zeal to get out of the boat and see if it was indeed Jesus calling to him to come, once he was out of the safety of his own control and the winds blew against him, he focused on the wind, and not upon Jesus, who was there the whole time. Peter cries out, "LORD I am perishing! SAVE ME!”   CONTROL IS A DEEP, DEEP NEED. Perhaps THE deepest need people have, is for control. When we feel out of control, we experience a powerful and uncomfortable tension between the need for control and the evidence of “inadequate control”. Without the Presence of God in our lives, we will attempt to control everything, every event, and every person around us in order to attain the sense of order and “identity power” that we crave.   DRAWING NEAR TO GOD It was James, the brother of Jesus, who wrote to the believers in Jerusalem, "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double- minded people!" (James 4:8). If we draw near to God, he will respond and draw near to us. Drawing near to God is spending time with Him, worshiping Him, praying and talking to Him, inviting Him into every aspect of our lives. EVERY.  PART.  OF.  OUR.  LIFE.   BRING YOUR HEART UNDER HIS LORDSHIP James gives us the blueprint for drawing near or “right up close” to the Lord.  If you've committed sin, confess it, get rid of it. Next, ask the Lord to examine your heart, your motives, and the things that make you do what you do.   Bring your heart under His Lordship as well. May our actions be manifestations of a clean heart and conscience. Allow HIM to remove the Chaff, the wasted time controlling things, and TRUST Him to align your life. Notice that when he writes about this he says, "Purify your hearts, double-minded people."   WHAT DOES HE MEAN BY "DOUBLE-MINDED"? Well, a person who is double-minded is drawn in two completely different directions. And so he or she will get nowhere fast because loyalty is divided. They will vacillate between faith and unbelief. And, a double-minded person is unstable in all his/her ways and his/her spiritual walk is inconsistent because he/she tries to serve God and his/her own interests, and gamble their life against the Harsh Winds. We've all learned that this kind of living never works.    YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS. Friends again I say this under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the master that you serve whether it be hiding something that is a secret sin or offense to The Lord, or things that you are aware of that have dishonored others, they will be brought into the light one way or the other. If you think you can hide it, if you think you can gloss it over, God will eventually bring it into the light and have you exposed for deception. Or, you choose to get the help you need and you can humble yourself! Yes, there may be consequences you don't like, because of your actions and choices. But repentance and accountability will save your soul. It may not save your marriage, it may not save your ministry, and it may not save your job or your relationships. But it will save your soul, because humility enters, and God can re-create what has been destroyed and damaged.   GOD DOESN'T PLAY GAMES! No one is going to get very far with God by playing spiritual games. It will soon be discovered that the only people playing the game with you will be you, yourself, and again, YOU.  It's just like people thinking that they can "ride the fence" into the kingdom. There is no riding the fence; there is no lukewarm support group. You're either in or out. If we really want to know Him, we are going to have to get serious about our relationship with Him.   WE DON'T WANT DIFFICULT!  I will tell you right now, that even as I write and speak these words, I can feel the resistance to pruning and more change in my gut!   Are you in a pruning, shocking, "getting trimmed back" difficult season right now?  Most everyone is!  Feeling like your wings have been clipped? Are you seeing a pattern of lethargy and a dullness of joy maybe in your daily life?  Don't waste those struggles friends! Know that God is very... VERY... intentional. And, He has a good plan for all of it.  Every challenge is an opportunity to practice walking one day at a time, with really clear thinking and gratitude, and He is right there, inside you, to help you.   LIKE I SAID BEFORE! WE DON'T WANT DIFFICULT!  But my oh my, I do want to be like Him! So I'm in surrender-mode now, friends.  I'm saying, “Cut away, Lord. Go deep.”  WHY? Because I want ALL that He has for me.  I want the fruit.  I want all that abundance, and I know it's waiting for me when this weird and awkward season changes.   THERE IS ANOTHER PHENOMENON I FIND THAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCESS, WHEN THE HARSH WINDS OF LIFE ARE BEARING DOWN. And, one that I find that is unhealthy to ignore. The enemy of our soul is observing and is feverishly “taking notes” about this difficult process, and I believe he finds it quite enjoyable; he laughs and ridicules and flings missiles of insults that shout that, "only a loser needs this kind of difficult adjustment ”.  This of course, is a lie but, one which we can tend to believed on a bad day! Listening to the wrong voice can tempt us to believe the blowing away of chaff in our lives is punishment, and comes from God being mad at us.  It can cause us to pull back from deeper fellowship or social engagements (social distancing tools too, like Face Time, ZOOM, integral) these paralyze honesty, transparency and humility. It can lead to self-hatred, self-protection, denial about how we hurt others with half-truths, and so on!   I AM TRULY BECOMING MORE AWARE IN MY SPIRIT THAT GOD CAN ONLY USE ME—OR “BEST USE ME”, THROUGH THE PARTNERSHIP OF HIS POWER AND MY WEAKNESS.    A wise and well-tested man by the name of Alan Hood must have had a few pruning clippers dig into his life at time or two and learned this lesson. He stated,  “To Be Pruned Is To Lose The Resources, Whether Monies or Physical Strengths Upon Which Everyone Around You Measures You As Successful.” LET'S READ THAT AGAIN…      …S  L  O  W  L  Y !    “To Be Pruned Is To Lose The Resources, Whether Monies or Physical Strengths Upon Which Everyone Around You Measures You As Successful.”   TRYING TO USE OLD THINGS WHEN GOD IS TRYING TO GIVE US NEW THINGS IS REALLY SUCH FOOLISHNESS!  Psalm 85 talks about Restoration, Re-tooling and Revival. Verse 8 says,  “I will listen to what God the Lord says; He promises peace to his people, His saints —but let them not return to folly.”   I'M TRUSTING THE LORD'S GOOD AND GRACIOUS HAND IN THE PROCESS THAT THE WORLD IS EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW.  I know God does not intend to leave even a healthy fruit-bearing branch how it is, but He is always after a more abundant harvest for His people. I don't get it, I don't like or want difficult!  But I also don't want a puny little sick looking basket of bitter, green, unusable fruit out of life!  He will “give the increase” when I reach the end of this seeming devastation of stymied ideas and “put on hold” plans, and let me tell you something crazy, I feel it coming!  The increase! I'm learning to WALK in harmony, in tune with the truth that, “He is dwelling like healthy sap, in me, and will keep sin and despair from having dominion over my life”. (Romans 6:14) YOUR LIFE TOO!    A MOMENT IN HIS ANGER - A LIFETIME IN HIS FAVOR. God disciplines for a moment when He wishes to get our attention and our lives may indeed become painful for a period, but then comes His favor. God doesn't delight in either our depression or our damage.  And, when He begins to deal with the chaff in our lives, it is for our advantage, that we may be conformed to His likeness and reflect His holiness. When we sense God's disapproval, when it appears He has withdrawn from us, it is only so that we see our utter need of Him.   WHEN LIFE SEEMS TO BE SO SOUR, WHEN EVERYTHING CRUMBLES, then we must remember what we “say we believe”, that God's favor is with us, because of Christ's worthiness given to us, because we are adopted and are His - which means, that His favor always wins out over His disapproval.   THIS PICTURE IS PAINTED WELL BY THE WORDS "WEEPING REMAINS FOR A NIGHT."  Weeping and sorrow are pictured as a traveler who comes to stay for a night. The pain and sorrow we feel may seem as though it has moved in with us like an unwelcome guest, who decides to stay for a very long time.   REJOICING THOUGH, COMES IN THE MORNING. Your “mourning”, will dissipate in the morning”. Your winter, will melt into summer. God will replace your sighing, with singing. Grief, will give way to gladness. What was once bitter, will be made sweet. And, what was once a desolate wilderness, will be transformed into a paradise.   LIKE THE FIRST RAYS OF THE SUNRISE WHICH DISPEL THE HARSH WINDS AND GLOOM OF NIGHT,  GOD GIVES US JOY WHEN THE DARKNESS OF OUR PROBLEMS SEEM AS THOUGH THEY'LL NEVER LEAVE.   YOUR CROSS IS HIS GLORY What is so crucial to understand is that as a Christian, your life will be filled with times of weakness and strength, with want and wealth, with disgrace and honor, with crosses and comforts, miseries and mercies, joys and sorrows, delight and mourning. As this cycle of separating “Chaff” from our lives reoccurs many times in our lives, and it moves us from the cross to glory. For your own health and so that you find all your satisfaction in Christ alone, God will send you times of great growth and other times of emptiness. When the harsh winds blow, know that God desires that you find your hope and comfort by His own fire. When the balmy breezes come, give Him praise and thanksgiving for the warmth He provides. Psalm 57:1 says, "Have mercy on me, O God, Have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”   (PROPHETIC EXHORTATION AND WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE NOT INCLUDED IN WRITTEN MESSAGE CONTINUE IN THE AUDIO MESSAGE FORMAT BEGINING AT AUDIO PLAYER TIME MARKER 21:38) Duplication and sharing of this writing is welcomed

Here I am reflecting upon the book from my own lens. I share only my own thoughts, learnings, and ideas._____________________The message of this chapter is: You reap what you sow.The question we are being asked to consider right now and in the years to come is: “Will I plant a seed of poison through blame and projection? Or will I plant a seed of light and kindness?”Because, we'll be answering to the seeds that we plant, within the void. We'll get into voids in this chapter as well. The questions we'll be considering now are: Will you choose Faith over fear? Forgiveness over blame? Or Freedom over Suppression?Much of this chapter is: how do you want to move forward in your life, right now? How will you show up for yourself, and what choices will you make? What is the legacy you want to leave? This is what we are putting our awareness on, right now.You don't have to be perfect – just be aware. This is why we are here in body, as we shift from the Old Era into the new. We've been preparing for this time over lifetimes. This is Sacred Seeds.___________________________WHAT TO FOCUS ON THIS WEEKHere's your focus until the next episode:

Shades of Hope from Transmission 2: The Wheat and Chaff found in Part Two: The Freedom Transmissions, Pages ✨ 109-123In this chapter of The Freedom Transmissions, we are talking about the light forms of hope, the meaning of separation, and how the thoughts we think matters. Here I am reflecting upon the book from my own lens. I share only my own thoughts, learnings, and ideas._____________________Now we move into Transmission 2. Transmission 2 is called The Wheat and the Chaff and within this transmission, we begin with the chapter Shades of Hope. The shades of hope are the Light form or the shadow form of Hope. Whether it is light or shadow, they each have their own energy of hope. So, we'll talk about this and how our thought bubbles and fears are connected to it. How we choose to think about things matters. We'll also look at the power of originality, manifestation, the healthy side of separation, and how we are all here as soul's having a human experience. This is Shades of Hope. Please share this episode with anyone you think might be interested. ↘️___________________________To start, there's something I want to highlight — something that Yeshua addresses at the top of this chapter. In these transmissions, Yeshua's offerings cover many different topics and thoughts, and depending on where you are in your life, some will resonate, some will not. As a matter of fact, you might not even remember having read some words, passages, and paragraphs when you pick up the book a second or third time. This is a phenomenon I've heard many people say, and it's one I've experienced as well. Like I'll open the book to a random page and read something I don't even remember having read before. So Yeshua basically says that this will happen because it all depends on where our awareness is placed on any given day or moment. He says, “Oftentimes in My Offerings, I like to liberate several different birds with one stone. That is why, as you listen to the Offering, depending on where you are in your soul's evolution, you can hear and experience very different revelations at different times.”So in this chapter, we don't actually get to talking about hope until later in the chapter … although, of course, everything that's discussed does connect and relate to one another. We begin by continuing the conversation around the wheat and the chaff, which we previously talked about in the chapter on The Thread and the Stitching of the Dreaming. Essentially the wheat is our soul, spirit, and consciousness; the chaff is our body, form, and matter. While the chaff has worth, our wheat IS worth. We already talked about the two representations of separating the wheat from the chaff: one is through death, when our body returns to the earth and our soul returns to Spirit; and the other is separating from anything that doesn't resonate or align with our evolution, like our imbalances. Here we are reminded that the word “separation” isn't negative. While yes, there is a shadow form of separation — like feelings of disconnect, comparison, or unworthiness — there's also a light side of separation. For instance, separation can create choice, it can create an identity that is independent from the outer world, and it can create space between you ego and your spirit self. Some examples of separation in it's light form could be times that you remove yourself from conflict to ground yourself; it could be letting someone go with love; it could be taking space from issues so that you can discern what matters to you; or it could be unstitching from behaviors or distorted thoughts that keep you in density. It's separating the truth from a story. It's also having the awareness of separation between your soul and your body. And in that space of separation, is where you can access that vast invisible field of infinite possibilities. I believe that it's here where we create and pull forth our dreams and co-create with the Divine. So, in this case recognizing that you are consciousness in form, but you're not limited to your body, is a really great application of separation. You've heard that quote: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”So, we're being called to treat our bodies well and to be grounded, because our souls have chosen to be here right now, in our world. We are being encouraged to move away from things that keep us in density, as it says in the book, “the next joint, the next credit card, the next car, the next ‘teacher,' the next ‘therapist,' the next creative idea you never follow through on, the next excuse, the next complaint, the next cookie.” And to know when enough is enough:.___________________________One of the most important aspects of separating the wheat from the chaff is our ability to separate our consciousness from thoughts that create dissonance.Yeshua says in this chapter, “Though I fully understand the challenges of life as a human be-ing, I am continuously baffled by how often you allow the most inconsequential, transient thoughts and worries to consume you.”If and when we find it hard to disentangle ourselves from dense, limiting thoughts — like, “I hate my body,” or “I'm doomed to never making enough money,” or “This world is out to get me,” this is a time to give it over and ask for help from the Divine. Because if we don't take space from this thought, it can quickly consume us.It's helpful to be able to start to notice our thoughts throughout the day, with as much neutrality as possible. Just notice and witness, as if your thoughts are in a thought bubble floating by. As spiritual guide Byron Katie teaches in her famous four questions, when you have a dissonant thought, ask yourself this:1. Is it true?2. Can you absolutely know that it's true?3. How do you react when you believe that thought?4. Who would you be without the thought?___________________________So right now we are in an era of our soul, the “soul that lives in Balance, transparency, fluidity, and co-creation.” As the book says, this is “not a time of the mind OR the heart. This is a time of the soul, the spirit.”Our souls are taking back their power from our minds. The wheat is our need, and the more we can be aware of our thoughts, and release attachments to our thoughts that make up the story of who we think are, the more our “unmet need for Peace is met.”And here's something to be aware of: the majority of “fear-based, repressive, suppressive, or oppressive thoughts or ideas that we have are not always ours to own.” Meaning, our thoughts don't often come from us: they slip in from the outside. We've taken on the thoughts of others throughout our life, including family, friends, partners, school, communities, and work. As it says in the book, many thoughts “are fed to you or manipulated by outside influences.”We learn that if we don't have an inner process of “discernment, awareness, witnessing, and taking healthy separation from the ‘yours and mine,' it can poison you with doubt, which then leads to distortion, reactions, and the administration of the poison to others, like a virus infecting a host.” We learn something dissonant, we believe it, and then we pass it on. And the more we feed these thoughts through our worry, panic, anger, or need to control, the more power these thoughts will have over us.This is why it's important for us to have healthy boundaries around what we read, watch, listen to, or the circles of people that we keep. It's important for us to be aware of protecting our brain and energy space. It's important to have separation. It's important to have awareness and curiosity on how thought forms slide into our heart, mind, and soul.Allowing others to dictate how we think and feel, while easy to fall into, is deeply unoriginal. So how can we move into originality? First it's to be aware of our connection to a greater consciousness.I want to read this passage on page 118 which speaks to originality and creation:“Original thought and original God-anointed mantles come through slow evolution, gestation, and birthing of something fom the realm, the space, the Void of infinite possibilities. You pluck a possibility, an original idea or concept, stitch to it, gestate it, and, when ready, it comes to your awareness, it reveals. Your heart Lights and then your mind takes whatever this seed, this concept, is, and it begins to move it into realization and manifestation. That is original creation — that does not come from form — it comes from the space of Spirit, from the wheat, and flows outward into the world.”Sounds amazing, right? However, sometimes what happens it that we takes this inspired idea that we've plucked from that vast infinite field of possibilities, and we try to shove it into unoriginal structures. We try to place it in something that fels safe, like following guidelines of what's been done before. However, as it mentions in the book, “authentic creativity merits authentic structures.” So, we are now being encouraged to get out of the “rut of complacency” and to start co-creating — with originality — within the realm of the Divine. There's one more passage I have to read because it's one that I think of often, and it's what encouraged me to create this book study of The Freedom Transmissions on this podcast:“If you wish to be original, instead of striving for the macro, the more and more, the glistening of fame and power, first strive for less and less. Refine your message, concept, expectations, and the true essence of your service. With patience and allowing, you will be well on your way. The structure that is simple, original, and fulfilling of unmet needs instead of filling your ego's wants will reveal itself naturally from there. That is true Divine originality manifest within you.”___________________________Back to the idea of bringing awareness and curiosity on how thought forms affect us. This is going to bring us into the shades of hope.So to live our lives from our wheat — our soul — and not just from our chaff, or body, we are being asked to bring awareness into our daily moments. Awareness is the first step to transforming and rebalancing our mind — and to move us deeper into living in our authentic, original design. The biggest thing that is being asked of us here? It's to seek to be ourselves. When we allow fearful thinking such as anger, worry, panic, dissatisfaction, ingratitude, it keeps us from living in the present moment. Instead we find ourselves trying to control the future while letting oursleves be dictated by the past. Essentially, we are in a loop where past predicts our future. In these moments, we are a “fly in the Web of Life,” instead of being a spider. We are living the same stories, feelings, triggers, and thought patterns over and over. Until… we wake up, stop the cycle, and move ourselves into present-moment awareness. As author and researcher Joe Dispenza says, the “best way to predict the future is to create it, not from the known but from the unknown.”This is where hope comes in. Depending on how you express it, hope can either be a wonderful energy when used in the present, or it can be a massive burden when projected out of the present. When focused in the now, hope can catalyze healing and balance. An example the book gives is, to say, “In this moment, I am hopeful and full of hope for humanity.” Or, “I have hope that even though this relationship is ending, all can be left in harmony, compassion, and kindness.”But then when hope leaves the present and is rooted in the past (which are regrets) or the future (which are wants), you may find yourself saying something like, “I hope this person will change for me,” or “I had hope that things would have worked out better for me in my life.”Dead hopes, like regrets, are burdens. True hope “restores vitality [and] inspiration.”Hope that is moved out of the present and is projected into the future, and becomes about tomorrow or want, is in its shadow form of expectation. For example, “If you use [or buy] this, you will be this…” or “If you earn this amount of money, THEN you are worthy.”As you can see, the shades of hope, light or shadow, depend on if hope is in the present, or in the past or future. And we learn that the Divine has hope: the Divine hopes that we will be ourselves. That we separate oursevles from what everyone wants us to be, say, or do. Or even what our mind wants us to be — so that we can be the original soul and spirit that we are.___________________________As we come to the end of this chapter, we are left with a question from Yeshua. He asks,“Do you hope that God is with you or know that God is with you?”Sit with this question because within it is a rite of passage. Is it the question that moves us from “personal identity to Transcendence, wheat-identity.”To quote, “When you know, to the depths of your be-ing, that God is with and within you, it is easy to hold hope in the present and release all expectations, for you have all you need, which is God. Within the Light, all things are possible.”As for hope, this is a time for us to restore our hope in its “true Divine Essence, which is rooted in Grace, compassion, and sincerity.” Such as “I hope God is with this ill person and [their] family;” “I hope society recognizes this kind person.” or “I hope to see my family for the holidays this year, and that we are all healthy and happy.” This is hope in kindness and love.As it says in the book, “Choose the hope that flows from Faith. When hope becomes a Prayer for joy, not just for you, but for all, the Earth moves. “___________________________Here's your focus until the next episode:

Jim Osman explores the prosperity of the blessed in Psalm 1:3-4, contrasting the righteous with the wicked. He examines how those who delight in God's Word are like fruitful trees planted by streams, while the wicked are like chaff blown away. Osman emphasizes that the prosperity of the blessed is not merely material but includes spiritual fruitfulness, permanence, and, ultimately, eternal blessing through Christ. ★ Support this podcast ★

As a kid, my favorite part about school was recess. Don't get me wrong, I liked school. I liked learning. But I liked playing even more. Now, when it came to recess, my friends and I almost always ended up deciding between one of two games to play together — football or kill the carrier. These two games are very different from one another. In football, you have an even amount of people on both teams — half who are trying to tackle you, half who are trying to block for and defend you. Now, one team may end up with bigger kids than the other team, or faster kids than the other team, but the numbers themselves are always an even split: Six on six. Seven on seven. And so on.Kill the carrier is different, because in kill the carrier the moment you pick up the ball, everyone on the field is your enemy. The kids to your right, to your left, in front of you and behind you, each one of them has one object in mind the moment that ball touches your hands — kill the carrier, which is now you. And within a matter of seconds, that object is typically accomplished as you find yourself flatly pressed to the ground, face to the dirt, and anywhere from 10-15 of your closest friends smothered on top of you. My vote was always for football. Because being surrounded by enemies did not make me feel strong. Did not make me feel at peace. But made me feel vulnerable, and weak, and in need of much help. Psalm 83 is a Psalm about a people surrounded by enemies. A people in need of much help. A people whose enemies did not mean to merely smother them, but annihilate them and wipe them from the face of the earth. Which is why Psalm 83 begins as it does: “O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!” Following that initial cry for help, we're going to see the Psalmist do three things. First, he's going to provide the reason he's asking God for help. Then, he's going to make his request to God — “God, this is how I'm asking you to help us.” Lastly, he's going to explain his hoped-for result. “God, this is what I want to have happen as the result of you answering my prayer. Reason for God's help, request for God's help, result of receiving God's help. Let's pray and ask God to help us.Alright, so what is the reason for the Psalmist's cry for help? What's the reason he prays: “O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!”? We'll start with verse 2:Reason for Prayer“For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads.” Notice the vertical dimension of these words. The problem, first and foremost, is that these people are enemies of God. It's first a vertical problem. “Your enemies (O God) make an uproar; those who hate you (O God) have raised their heads.” And right off the bat, we might wonder, “What could possibly lead to such insanity?” For a people to “raise their heads” against God. We get that imagery, right? “Raise their heads.” Like a rebellious child to his parents, or a defiant soldier to his captain. It's a posture of opposition. Of insolence. And, in this case, insanity. Like a bunch of toy soldiers lining up against a sixty-ton tank. What could lead to such insanity? Hate. Hate could cause a people to do something like that. And I fear that we are going to miss the significance of that word here in verse 2. I fear that because of our immersion into a world that daily disregards and defies God, that we'll simply skip over that word “hate” without even batting an eye. Brothers and sisters, don't miss the outrage of what's being communicated here. This Psalmist is saying these people hate God. “Those who hate you have raised their heads.” There is no greater evil in all the world than the evil expressed in that short phrase — “hate God.” And if our jaw is not ready to drop upon seeing those words (hate God), then we need to recalibrate to reality. What this verse is saying when it comes to the God who made this world, and upholds this world, and loves this world, and gave up his only Son for this world, these people hate him. There is nothing more dark and evil than that in all the world. Nothing. I mean, you might be able to find someone who hates your habits, hates your stuff, hates your politics, hates your morals, maybe even hates you — and yet not one of those hates, not one of them, holds a candle to the human hatred of God himself. There is no worse condition in all the world than having a heart that hates its Maker.Hatred for God's PeopleNow, it follows, that if a certain people hates God, they're going to hate the people who worship God as well. So verses 3-8 should come as no surprise — flowing from the fount of hatred for God is a hatred for God's people. And, as we see, it is a united hatred.Look with me at verse 3,“They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones.”Again in verse 5,“For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant.”Their shared hatred for God and his people leads, as it were, to a cooperative effort. One aimed at total annihilation. Verse 4, “They say, ‘Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!'”Total annihilation. Entire nations, linking arms, bound for the blood of God's treasured ones, and as much blood as possible. Now, to get a sense for the scale of this mounting opposition, the Psalmist lists the names of these enemy nations in verses 5-8 — Ten nations in total. And if we had more time together this morning, we could go through each one of these and note the backstory of the tension between these particular nations and God's people. As it is, we don't have time for that, and the backstory is not really the main point here anyway. The main point is this: Israel, God's people, are surrounded.See if you were to take a map of the world at this time, position Jerusalem (the Land of God's people) right in the center, you could plot out these other nations and come to find that they form a ring all round Jerusalem. Enemies on all sides — that's the point. God's people, in other words, have nowhere to run. Nowhere to turn. Nowhere to go, except to God who rules over all. So, that's what the Psalmist does. He goes to God. Lays out the reason for his alarm, and makes his request to God. RequestBeginning in verse 9, we can see that the Psalmist's request is founded upon the pages of history — all the times in which God's people were in need, and all the times God came to their rescue. Specifically, he cites two scenes from history — both from the book of Judges. The first one involves Midian. You see it there in verse 9? “Do to them as you did to Midian.” To which we might ask, “What did God do to Midian?” Well, he embarrassed them is what he did. He not only defeated them but humiliated, embarrassed them in the process. See God's people at that time had an army of 22,000 men. That's a good size army, don't you think? Well, God didn't. Instead, he whittled that army down to a tiny remnant of only 300 men. He then equipped that army for battle against mighty Midian with clay jars and trumpets. He directed them to then go and surround Midian in the middle of the night, smash a bunch of the jars, blow a bunch of trumpets, make a really loud noise and hold their torches up in the air. They did it. Guess what happened?Midian's mighty soldiers woke up in a panic, and assuming their fellow comrades all round them to be the enemy, grabbed their swords and starting killing each other. Midian was routed that day. Their four leaders — Oreb, Zeeb, Zebah, and Zalmunna (you can see their names listed in verse 11), were killed as well. Midian was not only destroyed that day, but humiliated in the process. The second story involving Canaan, and its king Jabin and his leading commander Sisera (you can see their names listed in verse 9), is very similar. Not only was their army routed in battle, but their commander Sisera, (valiant warrior as he was) turned tail and ran from the battle in fear. He sought shelter in the home of a woman named Jael. He asked her for water and protection, just as a child would ask his mother. She brought him in, gave him some milk, covered him with a blanket, and then sunk a tent peg into his skull. Canaan, Jabin, and Sisera was not only destroyed that day, but humiliated in the process. Now, the Psalmist, looking out at the enemy nations all round him, and recalling those two scenes from history, says, “God, do to these enemies what you did to Midian and Canaan and Sisera. Destroy them, and even humiliate them in the process.Request Rooted in NatureNow, the Psalmist's request continues for a few more verses, but the background on his request changes a bit. No longer flowing from the pages of history, but from what can be seen in the realm of nature. Verse 13,“O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind.”If you've ever seen an old western movie, you know the image he has in mind here, right? I used to joke with my brother and sister about this because we watched a lot of old westerns with my grandpa when we were growing up. And always, always, there was a scene, where one guy is staring down another guy, it's quiet, tension is peaking, and then this lone tumble weed drifts across the plain between them. That's the picture here, “turn these enemy nations into something akin to lone, worthless, bone-dry tumbleweed blowing aimlessly out of focus.”Chaff, similarly, as the unused part of a plant after harvest, dries out, breaks up, and is carried away in the wind. “God,” says the Psalmist, make them like that. Take, what feels to us, like an immovable and impenetrable enemy, and, “poof,” blow them away.Still in the realm of nature, verse 14 takes things up a notch.“As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane!”Notice: “May you pursue them with your tempest…” God, set your sights, lock in on our enemy, and set a fire blazing upon their heels. The Psalmist clearly wants God to go after this enemy. He wants him to be the one to take down this enemy, and, as we noted in the pages of history, to even do so with a sort of flair that humiliates them in the process. But the question we want to ask is, “to what end?” What does the Psalmist actually want as the result of God's intervention? At first, it appears he wants two very different, even contradictory, results. And we might wonder, “How is this going to work?” How does one possibly pray for both of these seemingly contradictory results, in the very same Psalm?Result of the Prayer Look with me first at verse 16. The Psalmist prays, “Fill their faces with shame,” (that's that bit about defeat leading to embarrassment that we've been talking about). “Fill their faces with shame,” like embarrassment, humiliation, dishonor. But observe the intended result,“Fill their faces with shame that they may seek your name, O Lord.”In other words, make them to see the foolishness and futility of their actions. Awaken them to their own darkness and depravity. Allow them to become so broken and burdened that it brings them to their knees, casts their eyes down to the ground, leads them to cover their faces with shame — “we're sinners.” But do so, O God, in such a way that there, on the ground, and in their shame, these wayward souls begin to feel a tug upon their hearts — one like they've never experienced before. A pull that cries, “Go to God, you rebel, bring your shame and sin to him.” Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Lord.” Now what does it mean to seek God's name? Well it means to seek God's character. Seek God's nature. Seek God for who he is as, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty” (Ex. 34:5-7). To seek the Lord is to seek him for mercy, forgiveness, reconciliation, and joy. Just as the Psalms have been saying all along:Psalm 27:8, “You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”Psalm 40:16, “May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”Psalm 69:6, “Let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.”Psalm 105:3-4, “Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”The Psalmist's prayer in verse 16 is rooted in the reality that, as we see in Paul's speech in Acts 17: God is the one who “Made the world and everything in it, (and who is the) Lord of heaven and earth… (and) who gives to all mankind life and breath… (and who) made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth…that they should seek (Him), and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.”It is rooted in the reality that God the Son says to all mankind, Matthew 11,“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” It is rooted in the reality that even now, from heaven, God the Son calls,“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (Rev. 3:20).“Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Lord.”It is a glorious prayer. A prayer with an intended result that befits the nature of God. And it is not the Psalmist's only hoped for result. The Psalmist, as we said, seems to pray here in not one but two very different directions toward two very different results. See how verse 17 reads a bit different: “Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace.”Condemnation before GodThe image here, in contrast to verse 16, is one in which the nations do not end up repenting. They do not end up seeking God, but die in their disgrace and sins. That's what it means to be “Put to shame and dismayed forever.” Forever offers no second chances. Forever offers no hope of a change in the future. “Put to shame and dismayed forever.”This is a prayer for condemnation. And, we might ask, what gives the Psalmist the right to pray this way?Well, to begin, the Psalmist knows that some people will in fact die shaking their fist at God. The Psalmist knows that. Some people will never repent, but will instead die shaking their fist at God. What he doesn't know is whether that'll be the case for these particular people from the enemy nations round him, or not. Will they end up seeking God or will they not? The Psalmist does not know.Yet, this is where we need to lean in. What the Psalmist does know is that if, if, these people for the enemy nations round him do, in fact, never end up repenting and instead die in their sins, die shaking their fist at God, then they must not be allowed to get away with it. In other words, the Psalmist does not pray, “God, cause these people to seek your name. But if they don't, would you just ignore that fact? Could you just turn a blind eye to their sin? Would you be willing to just overlook their rebellion against you?”The Psalmist does not pray that, and he does not want that, and the reason he doesn't is actually the key to unlocking this whole thing. See, because more than anything, highest in priority in terms of the Psalmist's request, is not ultimately that these enemies would be saved, nor ultimately that these enemies would be condemned, but ultimately that one way or another, they would know, they would know, verse 18: That God alone, whose name is the Lord, is the Most High over all the earth. Not them. Not some other god. But God alone, whose name is the Lord, is the Most High over all the earth.See, because here's the thing: When people live their whole lives hating God and hating his people, they live as walking, talking proclaimers of fake news: “God isn't all that great.” “God isn't worthy of our time.” “God is like chopped liver compared to the treasures this world has to offer.” And in doing so, they defy God's glory and drag it through the mud. And when they die that way, they appear, at least from the perspective of the world, to have gotten away with it. They, not God, appear, in the eyes of the world, to be the ones who are most high over all the earth — after all, they were even able to defy God and get away with it.Were the Psalmist to pray, “God, call these people to seek your name. If they don't, just let ‘em be” it would be akin to praying, “God, either get your glory through saving these people, or, simply allow them to go on trampling your glory throughout all eternity. Allow their apparent victory over you to suggest your glory and worth which they've defied isn't all that great after all.” As it is, the Psalmist does not pray that and does not want that, and neither should we. Now, should we “Desire all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4)? Our God does, so we should as well. Should we love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us? Of course. Jesus tells us to in Matthew 5:44.Should we also seek to share the good news with our enemies in hopes they'll turn from their sin and receive God's mercy and forgiveness? Of course — that is our commission from here till the day God takes us home. But should we ever desire that those who die hating God, get off the hook for their rebellion against him? No.See, the truth of the matter is that one day, when the lights go out and the curtain falls, Jesus is going to come again to judge the world, and when he does, every knee is coming down. “Every knee [will] bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue [will] confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:10-11).Every man and every woman will know, they'll see it for themselves, that God, not man, but God alone, whose name is the Lord, is the Most High over all the earth. And on that day, God will get the glory he deserves from every single soul. From those who in their life repented and turned and sought God — God will be glorified in the fulfillment of their salvation. From those who did not, in their life, end up repenting or turning or seeking God — God will be glorified in their just condemnation. Their reception of the only punishment terrible enough and long enough to prove the glory and worth of the one whom they have spurned — Hell for all eternity. Our ultimate prayer as Christians should always be, “God, no matter what, get your glory.”Our ultimate prayer should always be, as Christians, “God, hallowed be your name!”The deepest desire within all of our hearts should be that God's worth and God's glory and God's splendor would be held high in our world and throughout all eternity. We pray for our enemies. We pray, “God, save our enemies.” God humble them so that they seek you while you may still be found. And behind that prayer, undergirding that prayer, is “God, no matter what, get the glory you deserve in this world. Get your glory no matter what.”The TableNow, what brings us to the table this morning is the reminder that each and every one of us in this room this morning were born enemies of God. We were born, Romans 1:30, “haters of God.” And yet, as Romans 5:8 tells us, “God show[ed] his love for us in that while we were still sinners [still haters of God], Christ died for us.” Christ died for his enemies. You and me. This table represents his broken body and shed blood for the sake of his enemies. Because that's what this table represents, if you're here this morning and you've trusted in Jesus, we invite you to take and eat with us. If you've not put your trust in Jesus, we ask that you'd let the elements pass, but we pray you would, in this moment, receive Jesus, and his death for you.
