The podcast is back after a buy week to discuss Sporting Kansas City's loss to FC Dallas, players returning from injury, and give a preview of Friday's match in NYC. There was something in the stadium on July 20th that prevent anyone from making a shot on target. Everyone except Dallas, that is. We discuss Saturday's Media Game and how Cody wasn't the only one who couldn't manage a shot on target. SKC took 18 shots on the day and it wasn't until later in the 2nd half they managed to get two of them on goal. Coming off two straight wins it was a gut punch to lose this one at home. But the return of Roger Espinoza was a breath of fresh air and something this team was missing desperately for too long. We have seen the light at the end of the tunnel for this stretch of injuries and everyone is back training except for Jaylin Lindsey and Rodney Wallace. Roger is a big one but while we still have the famous question of "Who is the striker" right now, Erik Hurtado will be welcomed back with open arms. We have a lineup discussion at all parts of the field. Does Yohan Croizet or Krisztian Nemeth get the nod up top? Who do you play in the absence of Felipe Gutierrez (yellow card accumulation)? Benny Feilhaber or Gianluca Busio? Does Vermes change the back line after a shaky performance last week? New York City FC has historically (heh) been defined by big stars, but they are finding success this season without a household name. They know how to play on their small field, but unleashing crazy people like Espinoza and Croizet in a small area might be really fun to watch. As always, you'll find a lot of positivity and optimism as we look ahead to this match. ...Especially without Thad on the pod this week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Riddled with injuries and inter-state duty, the podcast roster was down to Cody and Thad this week. But the summer of soccer has given us a lot to discuss as of late. The United States Women's National Team are FIFA World Cup Champions for the fourth time and the celebrations have been so much fun to watch! The USMNT were able to make the Gold Cup final against Mexico, but still came up a bit short falling 1-0. And SKC get a much needed win that hopefully marks the beginning of their climb through the ranks of the West. With Megan Rapinoe & Rose Lavelle netting the goals, the US took down the Netherlands to become World Champs yet again. The country, especially Kansas City, were all the way behind them and the party has yet to stop. The girls are enjoying the wave, but how long will this last? Can the NWSL parlay this hype into something more for the sport? The scenes from PnL (somehow) had some wondering if fans were to blame for the demise of FCKC. Thad is a HUGE fan of the women's game and we discuss the failures of their ownership as well as problems with fans. We also spent some time on the USMNT's Gold Cup performance. While the end result may not have been what everyone wanted, there was progress made. We are witnessing a changing of the guard as Weston McKennie, Aaron Long, and Christian Pulisic take charge of the team. But there is still clearly a long way to go - on the field and off. Can Omar Gonzalez really be a part of the team going forward? The same could be asked of Michael Bradley as well. Yohan Croizet has scored in back-to-back matches and Sporting Kansas City moved out of last place in the Western Conference. The Transfer Window has opened and Peter Vermes claims to be looking at 30 players, but Cody & Thad think the most useful reinforcements will come by way of players returning from injury. Aside from Jaylin Lindsey and Rodney Wallace, everyone is training again. Roger Espinoza is on the road back for a huge boost in the midfield, and Erik Hurtado is nearing a return as well. Hurtado should light a fire under the struggling Krisztian Nemeth. There will be some choices to make for the lineup against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. We come up with a game-plan for the lineup and substitutions to get a win. The fans are leaning towards Graham Zusi over Nico Hasler, but perhaps more surprising is Croizet leading the way over Nemeth at striker. Learn more about your ad choices. On today's episode, Andy sits down with Sporting KC new boys Kelyn Rowe (3:30) and Rodney Wallace (12:00) to talk about their first impressions of their new city and team. Rowe talks about being Mr. Versatility, the trade that brought him to KC this winter, and why he makes it a point to be so involved in the community. Wallace walks us through his free-agency process and how/why he picked KC, playing left back (again), and being teammates with Graham Zusi a decade ago in college. Superman on ExtraTime Radio? That’s something you’ve got to hear. Soccer is back – that has a nice ring to it – so Andrew and David sit down with a few MLS players to take the temperature of the league. First up, though, the guys dare to Zlatan, with rumors flying that the Manchester United star could be on his way to the LA Galaxy in the summer. They also look ahead to a weekend filled with big matches, from Sporting hosting FC Dallas, a Toronto-Philadelphia playoff rematch and hype trains making stops coast to coast. After the break, Minnesota United striker Christian Ramirez, who scored the club’s first MLS goal, calls in after a team breakfast to shoot the breeze for more than half an hour. Ramirez describes his stop-start path through college and then up the pro ranks, how he almost ended up playing in Mexico this season, his superhero friendship with Migeul Ibarra (who was spying the whole time), and how wild (and maybe a little weird) TCF Bank Stadium is going to be on Sunday vs Atlanta (5 pm ET; ESPN2 in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada). No mailbag on this day, as the guys leave their cozy studio space to head to New York City FC media day, where they sit down for a chat with Jack Harrison and Rodney Wallace. Wallace gets things started by interviewing Harrison about the season, then they move on to the Costa Rican’s time in Brazil, Frank Lampard and much more.

We also talk about the problems D.C. United had with Luciano Acosta being out, how Sporting Kansas City succeeded in their gameplan, before ending with Sean Franklin's role in this game and the scramble that should have led to a goal. In the second segment we welcome on Raf Noboa y Rivera onto the show to preview the upcoming match against New York City FC. We talk about how they couldn't break through against Orlando City and how Patrick Viera is having the team line up this season. We talk about Andrea Pirlo and their center backs, Alexander Ring and Rodney Wallace, and ask whether or not Raf is worried that they couldn't solve Orlando City's defense. Give it a listen!

Rewind CBD with Rodney Wallace. In 2017 Things were looking up for Rodney. He had just signed with New York City FC, he was clean, and with his mindset to participate in Costa Rica's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Nothing but clear skies ahead. That is until he started feeling a pain in his hip so horrid that he was afraid he wouldn't be able to walk, and much less play, again. He couldn't even play with his own daughter. He started taking prescribed pain medication again because it wasn't like he had much choice, but he used it responsibly and it helped. So he started taking CBD as a part of his routine. Besides his hip, he'd massage his knees or his back with it and felt a lot better. Before bed, he took the tincture and woke up feeling great. He also took the medicine to the locker room, but there he was forced to hide it. “This seems childish,” he would think. “That I'm hiding something that's so good for me, that's supposed to be legal.” It certainly is. By this stage, he was at the pinnacle of his career, with no intention of quitting any time soon. His dream of being on the national team for Costa Rica came true. It was everything to him.
