I sat down with three absolute warriors who've cracked the code on human potential: Nick Bare, the former Army officer turned entrepreneur who built an empire through military-grade morning routines; David Goggins, the ultra-endurance legend who transformed from a 300-pound nobody into the world's toughest man; and Dr. Andrew Huberman, the Stanford neuroscientist revealing the biological secrets behind optimal performance and recovery. Each guest shared raw, unfiltered insights about the mental fortitude required to push past perceived limitations. This week on The School of Greatness podcast, I had the pleasure of sharing my conversation with David Goggins, someone who has mastered the art of pain and embracing his discomfort zone. Your brain is the most complex organ in your body. It needs to be pushed, tested, and challenged everyday to create mental strength. The only way you'll ever strengthen the most powerful organ in your body is by diving head first into your discomfort zone. We don't like to be uncomfortable, but facing that pain head on is the only way we can ever succeed or progress. Are you ready to push past your mental limits?David Goggins is an incredible man who has undergone insane amounts of stress, pain, and tragedy only to unlock his true potential in life. David is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), the U.S. Army Ranger School (where he graduated as Enlisted Honor Man), and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. He is indisputably one of the world's best endurance athletes. He has completed over 60 ultra-marathons, triathlons, and ultra-triathlons, setting new course records and regularly placing in the top five. He once held the world record for pull-ups, completing 4,030 in 17 hours, and he is a sought-after public speaker, coach of numerous sports teams, and he also coaches people in Fortune 500 companies. In 2018, he published a book called You Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds which helps tons of people tap into their true potential. He says that on average, people are only using 40% of their potential. David wants to raise that number significantly. In this episode you will learnWhat made David apply for the Military. What David believes the key to life is.Why getting sick was the best thing that ever happened to David.About the 40 Percent Rule. How to retrain your mind when you want to seek comfort. For more information go to www.lewishowes.com/1525For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960Want more episodes like this one?Shaolin Master, Shi Heng Yi - https://link.chtbl.com/1428-podA Masterclass on Self-Discipline with 5 Navy SEALs - https://link.chtbl.com/1440-pod

How to Stay Motivated Even If You're a Writer A lot of writers hate writing. They sit and stare at the blank page or screen. They end up posting about how hard writing is, how torturous. Their post will get them a million likes. But it wasn't always like that for that. Most of us write because at one point we really loved writing. Drawing? The same thing. There was a study of little kids in a school setting and these little kids really loved to draw. They chose it as a free-time activity over and over again. So the researchers started to give them gold stars for drawing as a reward for the activity. The kids kept drawing. Then the researchers took the gold stars away. The kids stopped drawing—this thing they loved—because they were no longer getting an external reward and dopamine rush for it. Their internal reward that had compelled them to draw earlier? It no longer mattered. We do this to ourselves all the time. We look to external rewards and validation instead of to the inside. Dopamine is basically this feel good chemical (or neurotransmitter) that brings information from one neuron to another. Our brains let the dopamine loose into the nervous system when we do the horizontal mambo, when we eat something yummy, when we do cool things, even when we drink or do drugs (which is why those things can be so addictive, right?). When we do painful things (like running or studying or writing our epic novel about two gerbils against the universe), our brain will release dopamine later for the reward, but in the moment you have to say: I am doing this by choice I am doing this because I love it. This is hard, but hard is good because hard means striving, hard means that I'm probably in a growth mindset. You want to turn effort into reward and pull pleasure from the effort itself, not the reward that comes at the end because that makes you resent the effort. Or if you're an overthinker (cough), you might realize that there may be no reward at the end, no seven-figure book contract, no marathon that you magically finish in the top ten. You want the dopamine to be linked to the effort of training, of running, of studying itself, of putting your butt in chair and writing about Xena Gerbil Princess and her true love the gerbil bard, Gabby. There's a Navy Seal, David Goggins, retired, right? And he is all about this: about giving what you do everything you have so that you can achieve greatness and self discipline and toughness. Now, a Navy Seal seems light years away from a writer sending out social media posts about how much they hate writing and how painful it is or about the writer who only looks toward the reward of publication (traditional) or massive sales (independent or traditional). Why does this matter? I work with a ton of authors who are so talented. But some can't bring themselves to write any more. I work with a ton of authors who are so talented. But some are too afraid of rejection to lean in and enjoy their talent or process or even send out some pages. “Our culture has become hooked on the quick-fix, the life hack, efficiency. Everyone is on the hunt for that simple action algorithm that nets maximum profit with the least amount of effort. There's no denying this attitude may get you some of the trappings of success, if you're lucky, but it will not lead to a calloused mind or self-mastery. If you want to master the mind and remove your governor, you'll have to become addicted to hard work. Because passion and obsession, even talent, are only useful tools if you have the work ethic to back them up.” ― David Goggins, Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds DOG TIP FOR LIFE Play for the love of playing. - Pogie Pup LINKS WE MENTION https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/dopamine SHOUT OUT! Alex and Meredith are dissecting a topic that affects us all - the myth of perfection. It's extremely important to recognize that everyone has their own challenges and struggles, and that it is okay to not have it all together all the time. There's a difference between maintaining and pushing in regards to priorities, and we have to be kind to ourselves by giving ourselves permission to take a step back when necessary. Self-compassion, curiosity, vulnerability, and connection are all qualities that can help us navigate difficult moments. Passionate anti-perfectionists who adopt a more "work in progress" and "good enough" mentality, Alex and Meredith also explore the impact of social media on our perceptions of perfection and the unrealistic expectations they can create. — The Canada Day Holiday, Working from Home, & Auto-responders — Why Perfectionism Is The Worst— The Myth of Perfection— Pressure to Have Everything Figured Out— Allowing Vulnerability & Compassion— The Toxicity of Social Media & Only Seeing "Success"— Work in Progress & The Belief that Good Enough is Good Enough— Investments & Returns— Doing Something is Better than Doing Nothing— Complete > Perfect— Don't Go Hard— Self-Compassion & Being Human— 'Good Enough'Resources Mentioned in This Episode:The Growth Equation Podcast with Brad Sulberg & Steve Magness "160 -- The Attention Economy"Move Your BusHow to Win Friends and Influence People by Dave CarnegieCan't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins ────────────────────────────Want to work with Tactic Functional Nutrition? Check Out Our ServicesLearn More About Us Here and be sure to follow Tactic Nutrition on IG!Stay in the loop with us by signing up for our email list!

Succeeding in real estate investing requires a combination of various factors - knowledge, skill, understanding of the market, identifying opportunities, evaluating properties, and the ability to take calculated risks. Successful investors also need to be able to manage properties effectively, maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, adapt to changing market conditions and adjust strategies to stay ahead of the curve. It is more than just technical skills.   We delve into this topic in this episode with Nic Espanet, founder and principal of Thrive Multifamily. Nic shares his journey from a middle-class mindset to a growth mindset in RE investing. He highlights the mindset of continuous learning, persistence, and resilience as crucial to optimizing success in investing as well as building a network of contacts for valuable insights, advice, and support. Our discussion also covers refining strategies for property management and managing expenses, monitoring key performance indicators, investing in good employees, insurance costs, and more. So, get out of your lanes, try something different, and fall at it. Pick yourself up, don't stay down, get up, and dust yourself off.”   “Failure is not a bad thing.”   “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.”   “It's well worth it to spend more money on good full-time employees and staff than have them hired away from you for a dollar more an hour.”   Links Mentioned: Thrive Multifamily Schedule a call with Nic Espanet Send an email to Nic Espanet Monday.com Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing Titan: The Life of John D. So, what will it take to conquer fear, take the first step, and launch your journey to real estate investing success?    In this episode, we chat with Andrew Schutsky of Redline Equity LLC about his journey in real estate investing. Now a thriving investor with 2,000 units under management, he is the first to admit that achieving this level of investing success while running an IT organization for a billion-dollar company, was unimaginable when he started house hacking. Rising above his fears and crushing imposter syndrome, Andrew took action,  faced the challenges and grew his investments over time. His journey is full of valuable lessons and tips to help you take your real estate investments to the next level. Don't miss out on this empowering episode!    Key Points from This Episode: Andrew talks about his background and upbringing and how he got into the real estate business. Andrew answers the Rare Air Questionnaire.   Tweetables: “A lot of people think they don't have much to offer. But I'm here to tell you that you have more than you think. If you really sit down and inventory and actually start talking to operators where they have gaps or things that they don't like doing that you may be really good at.”   “What's the simplest way to get something done? I love simplicity and that's what I look for in systems and processes.”    “It's really being thoughtful about where you spend your time, recognizing when you've hit your limits, and pulling back at that point. But there are going to be times when you are imbalanced. Otherwise, you will never get to that !% to 2% where you want to be.”   “I'm a work in progress. I'm on a never-ending journey to improve. I'll never reach a final destination.”   “You've got to do what the 1% are willing to do and the 99% are willing to not do.”   “Surround yourself with people who are in the same position and talk through those challenges. It's way better than just doing nothing sitting at your desk and just shaking.”   “We're never going to get rid of fear but if we are willing to dance with it, it can propel us into action.” - Tyler Chesser   Links Mentioned:   Redline Equity LLC website   Rhino: Replace Your Security Deposit   "Never Finished: Unshackle Your Mind and Win the War Within" by David Goggins   "Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds" by David Goggins   "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki   "The Obstacle Is The Way" by Ryan Holiday   Daily Stoic website   "Daily Stoic" book by Ryan Holiday   “Never Split The Difference” by Christopher Voss and Tahl Raz "Getting To Yes" by Roger Fisher, et. al. Bookey App 30 mins Book Summaries Knowledge Notes and More

Can't Hurt Me Full Book ReviewMore Content On Bookey Best App For Book Summary. Each time we encounter what appears to be an insurmountable challenge, our first instinct is usually to give up. Not the author of this book, David Goggins, who has an insatiable appetite for pain – not only does he deliberately seek out challenges that stretch his endurance to breaking point, he would attempt them again and again till he not only conquers them, but does so better than everyone else. He believes everyone should callous their minds, give up victim's mentality and eventually realize their maximum capacity. In this book, Goggins provides us with a candid account of all the hardships that he has conquered, from his abusive childhood to his brutal military training, in order to live life on his own terms. Overview | Chapter 1Hi, welcome to Bookey. Today we will unlock the book Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins. In this book, Goggins shares with us how he turned his life around and overcame one obstacle after another by mastering his mind. Growing up, Goggins did not enjoy the typical carefree childhood that many of his peers did. Instead, he and his mother and brother lived under the tyranny of his abusive father, who exposed them to a world of violence and pain from a young age. This affected him for a long time. Young Goggins was unmotivated and aimless, with a rage within him which continued to eat him from the inside. Although he tried out for the Air Force at one point, he lacked the tenacity to complete his training and eventually dropped out on medical grounds. Struck by his own failure, he abandoned his health by binge-eating, and resigned himself to a mediocre life of working in pest control. All this started to change when he happened to watch a television programme about Navy SEALs, which captured on camera the most notorious part of SEAL training – Hell Week. Instantly, Goggins was reminded of all the aspirations he once had, and decided it was time to pull himself together. From that point onwards, he never looked back, enduring three Hell Weeks to finally graduate top of his class as a Navy SEAL, and thereafter going on to set new records in long-distance running and endurance sports. Goggins turned his life around through what he calls “mastering the mind”. At any point when he felt like giving up, he would confront his own weaknesses, give himself a good scolding, and push himself to embrace his pain. In this book, he candidly shares the hardships he has endured throughout his life as well as the strategies he used to gain mastery over his own mind and successfully conquer the odds, thereby inspiring us to do the same.

My favorite episodes are ones where I feel like listeners get some good nuggets of wisdom out of them. I think this is one of those episodes. You are probably expecting a financial review for this episode, but we're not ready and you'll get something else. Instead, we tell an interesting story from the road and we review a book that can be life changing, if you embrace it's principles. What To Expect From Episode 116 I have been talking about the incident that I haven't been ready to talk about for two months, well, I am ready to talk about it. Craig and I discuss a significant issue that occurred with one of our trucks and drivers in September. You'll want to listen to this episode just for this story. On top of that, there is an abundance of good content about a book I just finished that I really loved. I recently finished listening to an audio book that I feel like I really relate to, and it is full of lots of great lessons anyone can learn from to make their life better. The book is "Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds" by David Goggins. David is a retired Navy Seal and one of the best endurance sports athletes in the world. His life experience and how he views our existence is inspiring and there are lots of lessons we all can learn from the book to make us better at all aspects of our lives. He also issues 10 challenges that we can follow to help us along a path of perpetual improvement. Below I list 6 of my favorite lessons and challenges from the book. I encourage you to read or listen to it. You can learn more about it be clicking here. Comment on your favorite lessons once you have had a chance to pick it up. Life is not fair, don't use that as an excuse and let it hold you back. Create an "Accountability Mirror". It will help you be self-aware and hold you accountable to achieve self-improvement. Get out of your comfort zone. Be willing to work harder than the next person. Remove the governor in your brain. Be uncommon. Craig and I talk about these 6 lessons and challenges and why they stuck out to me. I hope you read the book and enjoy it as much as I did.

David Sloan is a Managing Partner at Venture Kitchen. He is also the former CEO and Founder of Naf Naf Grill. David started a financial career soon after school and built it up for 10 years. One day around 2010, while driving through Chicago, David saw a restaurant specializing in shawarma falafel, a food he had enjoyed with his family while living and traveling in Paris as a kid. It was the best shawarma he had ever tasted, so he asked the owner if he wanted a partnership, and a partnership was formed. The restaurant was called Naf Naf and it was in a "hole in the wall" location. With the newfound partnership, David and his partners built out a new location for Naf Naf, changed the name to Naf Naf grill, and opened 6-7 months after leaving the old location. Naf Naf Grill was instantly popular and a second location opened roughly a year after the first. a third location followed just a few months later. Today, Naf Naf Grill has 38 locations. David also opened Taqueria Invicto, a Mexican restaurant. He also started a charity organization looking to solve child hunger, called One Feeds Two, which has provided now over 20 million meals to hungry kids. Show notes… Calls to ACTION!!!
