Welcome to News in Context – I'm Gina Baleria. In this episode, we talk with former San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin, founding executive director of the newly created Criminal Law & Justice Center at UC Berkeley School of Law. We discuss Boudin's new role at UC Berkeley, and his plans for advancing victim's rights, true justice for all, and criminal justice reform by seeking evidence-based solutions and researching what can work. We also explore how we could truly reform the U.S. criminal justice system to make it work for everyone - and how to navigate resistance to reform efforts. This is Part 1 of my interview with Chesa Boudin. You can hear Part 2 next week.

Every voter that loves America will be encouraged and uplifted by Carl's podcast today. First, Carl begins with an interview w/Megan Clemente of “Redo Voting.” Redo Voting integrates the simplicity of paper ballots with un-hackable encryption so that every legitimate voter, whether Democrat, Republican or other, can feel confident in knowing their vote secure, counted, auditable (no fear of irregularities) and private. You can also get real-time results on Election Night with no equipment or early voting needed. Lastly, Carl offers his takeaways on last night's major primary election wins and losses, including the LA Mayoral race between Karen Bass and Rick Caruso, but dives deep into San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin's recall. Boudin is a woke, soft-on-crime DA who was funded by George Soros and supported by residents of San Francisco in 2019 only to be recalled by those same liberals last night. This recall has major national implications for woke DAs and democrats who put criminals before victims all across the country. Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show: Local News Headlines/News Rundown On Saturday night, three people were killed and another eleven people were hit by gunfire during a shooting on South Street. Two of the suspected shooters have been taken into police custody. On Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner held a press conference where he addressed the weekend’s South Street shooting. During the press conference, Krasner blamed mass shootings on the National Rifle Association (NRA) and elected officials who take money from the “gun lobby”—claiming those politicians “sold their souls.” In a statement to Fox News Digital Sunday, NRA spokesperson Amy Hunter said, “Philadelphia has been awash in crime for years as a result of Krasner’s ineptitude.” U.S. Senator Pat Toomey stated Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are closer than ever to agreeing on bipartisan legislation that would help address national gun violence. Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate John Fetterman has revealed new information about the stroke he suffered several weeks ago, explaining that he “almost died.” During his concession speech, Dave McCormick endorsed Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Dr. Mehmet Oz in the retired physician’s campaign against John Fetterman. According to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) billionaire George Soros has donated nearly $40 billion over the last decade endorsing the campaigns of progressive prosecutors—including Philadelphia’s Larry Krasner. Soros-backed San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin now faces a recall vote on Tuesday.
All across the country today we have primaries - including in California. But the one thing I am following the most today is Prop H in San Francisco, where billionaires, conservatives, and corrupt tech leaders have banded together, and donated millions of dollars, to stop San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin. It's a waste and an abomination that it has even gotten this far. Not only is Chesa a brilliant DA, he's a good, ethical, moral human being. Conservative Californian's continue to abuse the recall system when they can't win in the general elections. It's a waste of time and money. If you are in San Francisco, or know somebody who is, PLEASE encourage them to vote NO on Prop H to stop the recall of Chesa Boudin.
An update on the recall against San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin. Sheriff Villanueva comes on the show to talk about his event at Olvera Street that got a bit testy. Kevin De Leon got into a physical altercation with activists at Olvera Street today.
Adam Schiff is back in the news. San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin wants to go after illegal crabbing. More on the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. A woman got attacked by a bison at Yellowstone National Park.
Yet another poll shows things not looking good for San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin in his recall fight. For more, KCBS Radio news anchors Holly Quan and we're joined LIVE on the KCBS Ring Central Newsline by KCBS Radio Insider Phil Matier.
Please enjoy this bonus, replayed episode in honor of Chesa Boudin's late mother and the San Francisco recall election. Kicking it off with the Buzz Question about options to ease the pain at the pump. Police have arrested 24-year-old Amoni Joseph Riley in the shooting of another 24-year-old outside of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on February 28th. He's been charged with attempted homicide and the victim is recovering. The motive for the confrontation? A love triangle. A Russian politician and Putin advocate speculated on Russian state TV that the US should return Alaska as a reparation for the sanctions the US has leveed against the country for its invasion of Ukraine. San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin will face a recall election on June 7th and things aren't looking good. In a recent poll, 68% say they'll vote yes. 78% overall give him a poor job performance rating. San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin and Los Angeles DA George Gascon are the newest members of a club we've been following for a while: progressive prosecutors elected on ambitious criminal justice reform platforms. Like their counterparts in Chicago, Philadelphia, St Louis, and other cities where voters have demanded sweeping change, Boudin and Gascon are facing fierce pushback from defenders of the status quo.
