This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, friend of the show Congressman Drew Ferguson returns to bring us up to speed on the results of the Durham investigation. Later in the show, our friend and presidential candidate Larry Elder stops by to talk about his campaign. -Congressman Drew Ferguson is a proud native of West Point whose family roots in the West Georgia area are several generations deep. He attended the University of Georgia and gained early acceptance to the Medical College of Georgia. After graduating with a degree in dental medicine, he moved back to his hometown and established a successful family dental practice. In 2008, Congressman Ferguson was elected mayor of West Point and was at the forefront of attracting and keeping jobs in his community. By lowering taxes, eliminating government barriers and reforming education, he led a community in economic ruin back to life. Today, a wide range of new businesses and industries call West Point and the surrounding area home. Led by KIA Motors, automotive suppliers and related businesses, 16,000 new jobs have been created in the community. Congressman Ferguson came to Washington to apply the lessons he learned revitalizing West Point to creating policies that once again make America the most competitive place in the world to do business.Just as important as the creation of jobs, Congressman Ferguson wants to remove barriers to prosperity that prevent those in poverty from being able to move into the middle class. Congressman Ferguson believes these problems cannot simply be regulated away, but Congress should look for solutions that get government out of the way of American opportunity for innovation and growth. This is as much a moral issue as it is a practical matter.Congressman Ferguson currently serves on the Committee on Ways and Means and the House Budget Committee. On the House Ways and Means Committee, he serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Social Security, and is a member of the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures – also referred to as the Subcommittee on Tax. He previously served as the Chief Deputy Whip for House Republicans from 2018 – 2022.Drew and his wife, Julie, reside in The Rock, Georgia, and together they have six children: Anderson Drew Ferguson V, Lucy, Mary Parks, Thad, Elizabeth, and Olivia.-Larry Elder—the Sage from South Central—is a nationally syndicated radio host and newspaper columnist, bestselling author, award-winning documentary filmmaker, and one of the best-known media figures in America today. Title 42, the Trump-era policy that allows border officials to turn away migrants at the southern border, has been used 2.9 million times since it was implemented in 2020. It's set to end on May 11. Will there be chaos at the border as many predicted? Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is Mark Meckler, president of Citizens for Self-Governance and Convention of States Action. Meckler expresses strong criticism of the Biden administration's handling of immigration at the southern border. He claims that despite the administration's promises, the border remains open and the cartels are in control. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, putting the matter back to the states where it belongs, and where it was through all of America's history until 1973. This has infuriated many female and young voters who consider “access to abortion a right.”  Brian Westbrook, the founder and executive director of the national sidewalk counseling organization Coalition Life, expresses his pro-life views on abortion. He believes that strong candidates who are clear on their stance on abortion will be the victors in the coming elections.  Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) returns to the Senate after a three-month absence due to depression. His first hearing is said to be “painful to watch.” Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is Washington Examiner columnist Christopher Tremoglie. Despite political differences, Tremoglie expresses sympathy for Fetterman's situation. However, he questioned Fetterman's decision to walk into the Senate wearing shorts and a hoodie, “but it is good to see that he actually did wear a suit while in official proceedings.” The Larry Elder Show is sponsored by Birch Gold Group. On Tuesday, Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, presented her inaugural city budget, which includes provisions to address the homelessness crisis, boost mental health services, and bolster LAPD recruitment. The budget allocates almost $1.3 billion to combat homelessness. Paul Scrivano, the owner of the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks outside of Los Angeles, is a long-time critic of the city council. Joining Larry Elder, he argues that politicians and city officials are more interested in maintaining funding for homeless services than actually solving the problem. “This is nothing but a money grab to give to her unions to give to her homeless 501(c)(3),” Scrivano says. He also expresses frustration with Los Angeles council members for advocating for defunding the police and then complaining about low LAPD staffing.  Fox News agrees to pay $787 million to settle Dominion's defamation lawsuit. Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is John Eastman, former Professor and Dean of Chapman University School of Law and one of the attorneys who represented Donald Trump, and who, as a result, is facing disbarment in California. Although the settlement may be used to debunk all claims of election illegality and fraud, Eastman points out that other allegations of election irregularities remain viable. He also argues that Fox News's admission does not have any bearing on the majority of the allegations from the 2020 election.  The Justice Department revealed on Monday that the FBI has apprehended two individuals accused of establishing and running an unauthorized Chinese police station in New York City. The alleged purpose of this operation was to exert influence over and intimidate critics of the Chinese government residing in the United States. Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is Brent Sadler from the Heritage Foundation. He says that the Chinese Communist Party is highly skilled at influencing foreign political leadership and embedding itself in the global marketplace. They are also known for being adaptable and pragmatic, which makes competition with them difficult. In the next couple of years, there may be a kinetic test of American resolve as China seeks to exert its influence further. A recent protest in Tennessee, instigated by two Democratic lawmakers, turned into a near-riot as protesters in Nashville stormed the state Capitol building. What is going on here? Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is co-founder and honorary chairwoman of Tea Party Patriots Action, Jenny Beth Martin. She expresses her concern over several issues affecting society today. One of the most significant issues discussed was racism on the left, where people are judged solely based on their outward appearance and skin color, leading to assumptions about their beliefs and opinions. They also discuss the issue of lawlessness and unequal application of the law, whereby those who are politically useful to certain groups are given more lenient treatment than others. The weaponization of the government against political opposition is also an alarming trend, and unless people are held accountable, this could lead to much darker days for the country. As a parent of college-age children, Ms. Martin touched on the issue of the indoctrination of college students and the need for parents to protect their children from it. “Why America's elites grovel before communist China”—that's the million-dollar question raised and answered by David Kupelian, vice president and managing editor of online news giant WorldNetDaily. Joining Larry Elder, Kupelian discusses the Chinese Communist Party's long-term thinking and desire to become the global hegemon, as well as its explicit atheism and totalitarianism. “Atheistic means there's no God, the government is God, they are the controlling authority of everything,” he said. “And so they want to rule the world.” Kupelian argues that many American elites are infatuated with China's dictatorship and that America's dealings with China are usually motivated by money, often at the expense of serious human rights concerns. He suggests that America needs to elect leaders who love the country and believe in the Constitution and that a free press is necessary to hold those in power accountable. Didn't the United States withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO) during the Trump administration? It turns out that the withdrawal was halted by Joe Biden. According to Reggie Littlejohn, Founder and President of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, the WHO's plans pose an existential threat to American sovereignty and personal medical freedom.” Joining Elder, Littlejohn explains what she calls a “digital gulag” that has been tried out in China and expanded to the rest of the world, including America. She says the WHO is negotiating two instruments that would allow it to go into any country, including the United States, and mandate things like vaccines, which would abrogate national sovereignty and personal medical independence. Additionally, the U.S. Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act, which obligates the United States to comply with anything passed by the WHO.  She also discusses central bank digital currencies, which would allow the government to know every transaction and programmatically control spending, potentially allowing the enforcement of vaccine requirements. She encourages people to take action through the Sovereignty Coalition website to alert Congress to the issue. The Larry Elder Show is sponsored by Birch Gold Group. China's yuan replaces the dollar as the most-traded currency in Russia as the Kremlin urges conversion from “toxic” to “friendly” currencies—how concerned should we be? Joining Larry Elder to discuss the issue is editor-in-chief at Forbes Media, Steve Forbes. He evaluates the state of the dollar and explains why it remains the King of the World—despite its flaws. He also talks about the need for political and military reform, as well as the negative effects of green policies and excessive regulation. Forbes addresses the issue of homelessness and housing costs in California, attributing them to excessive regulation while advocating for compassionate, yet proactive solutions. He also warns against the dangers of rent-control policies, which can ultimately destroy cities. Did you know that each year, hammers are used to kill more people than “assault weapons”? The Washington Examiner's Christopher Tremoglie joins Larry Elder to discuss his piece “Hammers are used to kill more people than ‘assault weapons' each year.” Former Senator Rick Santorum has a new book for young readers about Pope John Paul II. He writes: “Though the totalitarian regimes he opposed were strong, John Paul II told his followers ‘Be Not Afraid.' When Polish protesters were arrested by the Soviet regime, people around the world put a candle in their windows to show their support. John Paul II did the same.” Joining Larry Elder, Santorum talks about the current state of American politics, describing the country as descending to become a “Banana Republic” where the left uses any means necessary to gain power and crush the right. He argues that the media is complicit in this effort, discrediting anything that comes from conservatives while covering for the left. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) made history by becoming the highest-ranking elected official to meet with a Taiwanese president on American soil since the United States established diplomatic relations with Beijing.  On Wednesday, McCarthy, alongside a bipartisan congressional delegation, welcomed Tsai at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. During the meeting, McCarthy called Tsai “a great friend to America” and emphasized the strong bond between the two countries, which he believes is stronger than ever before.  The question of how strong the bond is remains, however. Would the United States respond militarily if China invaded Taiwan? To discuss this, Larry Elder is joined by James R. Gorrie, an Epoch Times contributor and author of “The China Crisis.”  Gorrie criticized the Biden administration's policy of strategic ambiguity regarding Taiwan and its relations with China. He argued that the strategy was no longer effective and urged the United States to take more decisive action in support of Taiwan, including potentially arming the island and increasing military cooperation with Japan. On another topic, Elder is joined by Cully Stimson, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for detainee affairs in the George W. Bush administration and now a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation.  Stimson, who co-authored the book “Rogue Prosecutors: How Radical Soros Lawyers Are Destroying America's Communities,” discusses the rise of rogue prosecutors who have been funded by billionaire financier George Soros and other organizations to take over prosecutors' offices and dismantle the criminal justice system, which they claim is systemically racist. Former President Donald Trump's indictment in New York City is a “sad day for American justice” and should be dismissed on legal grounds, according to legal analyst, Paul Kamenar. Kamenar is the lead counsel for the National Legal and Policy Center. He joins Larry Elder to discuss the Trump indictment. The charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg are based on a “thin” case that seeks to single out Trump, Kamenar says, adding that the charges appear to be politically motivated. The indictment, which alleges that Trump's company and its CFO committed multiple counts of fraud, is likely to interfere with the 2024 presidential campaign. Kamenar also criticizes Bragg for “weaponizing” law enforcement to target political enemies, and suggested that the charges should be dismissed on legal and selective prosecution grounds. China's yuan replaces the U.S. dollar as the most-traded currency in Russia. What does this mean for America? Joining Larry Elder to discuss the issue is Kevin Freeman, founder and CEO of Freeman Global Holdings and a New York Times bestselling author. Freeman argues that the development is a threat to the United States, and that the Biden administration is contributing to the problem through excessive spending. “I do not want to see the dollar fail, but I'm afraid we're watching other countries that are working hard to make that happen,” he said, “and then you look to Washington, and it looks like the current administration is working to make that happen as well.” Freeman suggests that to shore up confidence in the dollar, the U.S. needs to become energy independent, reduce regulation and excess spending, and move services back to the United States. He also expresses concerns about China's accounting practices and economic interests. The Larry Elder Show is sponsored by Birch Gold Group. A Manhattan grand jury has indicted former president Donald Trump.  Unsealed on Tuesday, the indictment charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree under New York Penal Law §175.10. Trump pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. Joining Larry Elder to discuss the indictment is the president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and author of “Final Battle: The Next Election Could Be the Last,” David Horowitz.   In Horowitz's opinion, the indictment is a weak case based on linking Trump to a felony through a reimbursement made to his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen. Horowitz argues that Trump's actions were more likely aimed at protecting his family than at interfering with an election campaign. “The greatest, most egregious election interference in the history of the country is what [Manhattan DA] Alvin Bragg is doing now. He's totally derailed, on both sides of the aisle, the election campaign,” Horowitz said. Horowitz also suggests that illegal immigration, the crisis on the southern border, and the alleged lawlessness of the Democratic Party are part of its agenda to establish a one-party state. Hollywood is providing a great example right now of how the wealthy react to draconian tax laws. Celebrities such as Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez, James Corden, Britney Spears, and Kylie Jenner have put their properties on the market in recent months.  This is because a new “mansion tax” took effect in Los Angeles on Saturday that imposes a 4 percent tax on home sales valued at between $5 million and $10 million, and a 5.5 percent tax on sales over $10 million. During the summer of 2022, protests erupted in the Netherlands over the government's plan to reduce nitrogen emissions from the country's farms by up to 95 percent. The Dutch government expects that many farms will have to close to achieve this goal.  What's the rationale for such a plan from the government? Is it only happening in the Netherlands, or other parts of the world as well?  Last September, The Epoch Times' Roman Balmakov visited the Netherlands and spoke with a variety of farmers on the ground for upcoming documentary “Eat the Bugs.” They described the challenges their sector faces from the national government and the EU, as those and other powerful factions seek to change how the world produces and consumes food. Joining Larry Elder, Balmakov shares his knowledge and insights gained from filming the documentary. He thinks that the plan is driven by a belief that the world is ending due to manmade climate change, and the agricultural sector is being targeted to combat this threat. Farmers are being pushed out, and bugs are being promoted as an alternative source of protein.  He says there's no one person to blame, but rather a tapestry of policies and agencies that are having the effect of pushing farmers out. Balmakov also traveled around the world to interview farmers, agricultural departments, and governments and has found that the situation is complex in every country. Farmers fight back through legal channels, protests, and embargoes, but they are a tiny segment of the population and find it difficult to make their voices heard.  “And if you're into it, you can eat bugs. The problem is that they're forcing it on us,” says Balmakov, who has tried bugs himself. “What we're exposing is the ideology that is being forced on people, not necessarily the bugs as a food item itself.” The Larry Elder Show is sponsored by Birch Gold Group. In most cases during the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle. Joining Larry Elder, professor McGrath uncovers the hidden history of Irish slavery, and answers questions such as “can the American treatment of Irish immigrants be compared to America's treatment of blacks during slavery and during the Jim Crow era?” Silicon Valley Bank's recent failure marked the second-largest in U.S. history and the largest since the 2008 financial crisis. Joining Larry Elder, Ekpunobi shares her journey of transformation from a far-left activist to a free-thinking conservative, as well as the secret to gaining a million followers on YouTube. California has the most stringent gun laws in the nation, yet it still experiences a high number of mass shootings per capita. Additionally, despite California Democrats' push for gun control laws, such legislation has already failed. Why? According to John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, this is partly due to the fact that California bases its policies on false statistics. He also claims that the FBI has been under-reporting the number of instances in which civilians use guns for self-defense, including cases of stopping mass shootings or minimizing casualties. Did you know that March 14 is the anniversary of one of the largest single mass lynchings in American history? Washington Examiner commentary writer Christopher Tremoglie joins Larry Elder to discuss the American history that has been hidden from the public. The Auschwitz Exhibition will premiere at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on March 24. The exhibition showcases over 700 original objects of great historical and human value—direct witnesses to the horrors of Auschwitz and the Holocaust. The city of San Francisco is considering giving $5 million to each black descendant of slaves who lives in the city. They also want to allow blacks to purchase a home for one dollar, even though the average price of a home in the city is over $1 million. Additionally, they want to provide $97,000 in income support to black descendants of slaves for the next 250 years. And that's just San Francisco. A California task force signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom is recommending at least a quarter of $1 million for every black person who lives in California, a state which, by the way, was not even a slave state. However, not every black person is celebrating this $5 million extra income. Ward Connerly, former University of California regent, and founder and chairman of the American Civil Rights Institute, expresses his concern over the reparations movement. “If you want to unite Democrats, Republicans, conservatives, and liberals against black people, this will do it. This makes people like me the target for everybody,” Connerly says, joining Larry Elder. “They're trying to seduce us into thinking that there's going to be this big paycheck. It's not going to happen. It's teasing black people.” What caused the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank? One narrative suggests it was due to inflation and rising interest rates, while another narrative is that the bank got woke so it went broke. Is there another explanation? And how worried should we be, given that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen just warned more bank bailouts could be coming? “Dilbert” cartoonist, satirist, and political commentator Scott Adams, who formerly identified as a black man, has been canceled over comments he made that some people have alleged to be racist. Watch Adams explain himself to Elder, who believes the attack against Adams is unwarranted. After years of hostile and frayed relations, Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed to reestablish diplomatic ties and reopen mutual embassies—a deal reportedly brokered by China. This raises questions about what's behind the newfound love affair between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and what it means for Israel. Even Bernie Sanders has acknowledged that equality is about equal opportunity and differs from equity, which is about equal outcomes. He has stated that he is in favor of equality. In 1991, Orlando Patterson, a black Harvard sociology professor, wrote: “The sociological truths are that America, while still flawed in its race relations … is now the least racist white-majority society in the world.” In this episode, Vince Everett Ellison, producer of the documentary “Will You Go to Hell for me?” discusses with Larry Elder what's behind the Black Lives Matter movement and how it came to be. A study called Racial and Ethnic Differences in Homework Time among U.S. Teens found: “African American high school sophomores spent less time on homework than their non-Hispanic White counterparts, while Asian American students spent more than both racial groups of students. They found that family income, parental occupation, and parental education partly accounted for the difference in homework time between African American and White students. Why does he feel this way after we've had affirmative action or race-based preferences for over 50 years? And why is it still that when a black suspect is allegedly mistreated by the cops, no matter the race of the cops, or whether the city has a black police chief, activists—with the support of political leaders like former President Barack Obama—yell systemic racism.  Is America a country founded on racism? Joining Larry Elder to discuss this is the president of the Job Creators Network Foundation, Elaine Parker. She points out that while the HEROES Act does not give the president the authority to cancel student loan debt as Biden's administration claims it does, he did it anyway to appeal to young voters.  Talk about an overreaction.  “Dilbert” comic strip creator Scott Adams made a controversial YouTube rant last Wednesday in response to a poll by conservative pollster Rasmussen. The poll showed that 53 percent of African Americans agreed with the statement “It's okay to be white,” while 26 percent disagreed and 21 percent said they were not sure. Adams stated, “If nearly half of all blacks are not OK with white people … that's a hate group.” Adams then reportedly urged white Americans to “get the hell away from black people.” Since then, “Dilbert” has been canceled by Adams's distributor and newspapers across the country.
