Sodie Orr is an incredibly talented musician who left college to pursue a career in music. His journey has been one of highs, lows, success, failures, and lessons ever since. In addition to his songwriting, Sodie plays in a family band with his stepdad, Wayne Johnson, dubbed The Swingin Johnsons. They play all over North County, San Diego, and over the 10+ years of performing, have found that sometimes, success can be found in the most unexpected places.Expect to learn:How Sodie was signed to Atlantic Records at age 19What he learned from being Too Short's intern Why he thinks he'd be dead if he became famousHow he is finding purpose again We also talk a lot about therapy, doing hard things, and how we both unintentionally manifested rock bottom moments for ourselves.Shownotes:https://www.instagram.com/swinginjohnsons/https://www.instagram.com/sodieboyy/
In this special episode of Christ the Center, we commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Reformed Church in the United States (RCUS) with special guests Dr. Maynard Koerner and Wayne Johnson. Dr. Koerner and Mr. Johnson take us on a historical journey through the origins, theological developments, and challenges that have shaped the RCUS over the past three centuries. From the church's humble beginnings in colonial Pennsylvania, through the Mercersburg controversy, to the influx of Volga German immigrants, we explore how the RCUS has maintained a steadfast commitment to confessional Reformed theology. We also discuss the upcoming tricentennial celebration in Rapid City, South Dakota, and reflect on the church's present and future, its global mission work, and its deep connections with other Reformed bodies, including the OPC and Westminster Seminary. Wayne Johnson is the Provost of City Seminary of Sacramento. He served as the editor of Leben Magazine from 2008–2018 and retired as CEO of Gateway Media in 2019. He has a BA in European History from Purdue University. Dr. Maynard Koerner is the President of Heidelberg Theological Seminary and Associate Pastor of Trinity RCUS in Sioux Falls. My guest is Wayne Gustave Johnson, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, talking about his memoir "The Iowa That Was: Memories of an Iowa Boy Turned Philosopher." Johnson grew up in rural Iowa in the 1930s in a farmhouse without electricity or running water. The book is an illuminating look at a bygone era.

Welcome back Buddies! For this latest 'sode on Vinyl Community Podcasts, we have a guest and a conversation so rare, so valuable, so unique, that we had to enlist another host to reign in this collecting madness! Joined in the co-pilot seat by Spinz Vinyl (Jason), we speak with Wayne Johnson: co-owner and co-founder of Rockaway Records in Silver Lake, CA. Founded alongside brother Gary Johnson in 1979, Rockaway has seen the peaks, valleys, and rebirth of music on vinyl, while also growing, shrinking, and pivoting their business in various forms along the way. What once was the largest store in the Los Angeles area, Rockaway has diversified their focus to not only include the rarest of vinyl recordings, but also pieces of memorabilia that can only be dreamed about. We are talking much more than a Beatles' "Butcher" covers here: think BIGGER...think RARER....think UNBELIEVABLE pieces, unreal stories, and customers that would make the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Museum blush: Jimmy Page, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, Chris Robinson, and other music loyalty. Even Lucinda Williams once worked at this legendary store! We are talking items that the public rarely gets to see, with access and the ability to provide a revolving inventory that not few stores can compete with. Also in the conversation Wayne shares some great advice for those considering seriously purchasing unique vinyl or memorabilia, gives his thoughts on the emerging "slabbing" of vinyl, and offers his opinions on auction house buys and sourcing today versus 10, 15, 30, and even 45 years ago at the beginning of his journey. It's a fun walk down memory lane, and one you will find here RIGHT NOW on Vinyl Community Podcasts! Walk with us!

President Biden and Donald Trump had starkly contrasting campaign events this past weekend. On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, Host Bill Nigut and special co-host Tamar Hallerman look at the weekend campaign events of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. In Detroit, Trump courts Black voters by falsely accusing Biden of being the main force behind the 1994 crime bill and claimed Biden pushed the “super predator” measure aimed at Black crime. President Biden was in Los Angeles, where he attended a fundraiser where he was praised by some of the biggest names in Hollywood as well as former President Barack Obama. Meg Kinnard, national politics reporter, AP, Chuck Williams, WRBL Columbus, reporter, Georgia State University professor Tammy Greer join in on the conversation. Then, a look at Georgia congressional GOP runoffs that will be decided in tomorrow's election. Former Trump administration official Brian Jack squares off against state senator Mike Dugan for the open seat in the 3rd congressional district; and Chuck Hand, convicted of a misdemeanor criminal action, is facing Wayne Johnson for the GOP nomination in the 2nd congressional district. Plus, Tamar and Bill look at reaction from Georgia elected officials to the Supreme Court's ruling overturning the trump-era ban on bump stocks for guns. Reported at 12 p.m., the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. Kennesaw Police, currently lacking details on the victim's gender, age, or cause of death, noted no open cases matching the discovery. The remains were collected by the Cobb Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The location, on the city limits, leaves many possibilities about the origin of the remains, said police spokesman David Buchanan. STORY 2: Marietta Man Drowns in Lake Allatoona After Tubing Incident A Marietta man, Robbie Cornelius, drowned in Lake Allatoona on Sunday after falling off a boat-pulled tube. Responding to a 2:25 p.m. call near Little River Marina, Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) game wardens, along with Cherokee Fire and EMS and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, learned Cornelius wasn't wearing a life jacket and complained of leg pain upon falling. Rescue attempts by others failed as he began pulling them under. Using SONAR, game wardens and firefighters found Cornelius's body around 5 p.m. in 16 feet of water. The Cherokee County coroner now has his body. Superintendent Grant Rivera proposes locking students' cellphones and smartwatches in pouches throughout the school day, which can only be opened by staff. The policy aims to address mental health concerns and social media usage. The initial purchase of pouches will not exceed $100,000. Exceptions will be made for medical conditions, and families can purchase their own pouches if desired. Stakeholder feedback has been incorporated into the policy. A vote on the purchase will occur on June 18 after further public discussion. STORY 5: GOP congressional candidate walks off debate stage During a debate for Georgia's 2nd Congressional District runoff, Republican candidate Chuck Hand walked off the stage, leaving opponent Wayne Johnson to debate alone. Hand objected to debating someone outside the district, as Johnson lives in Macon. Johnson then highlighted Hand's misdemeanor from the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Johnson addressed illegal immigration, asylum policies, and opposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). He also suggested replacing federal student loans with grants and defended in vitro fertilization without federal funding. The district covers Southwest Georgia, from Columbus to the Florida line. We'll be back in a moment. Break: INGLES 2 STORY 6: Lower Roswell Road Upgrades Back on Cobb Commission Agenda The Cobb Board of Commissioners will consider three items related to the $11.2 million road improvement project on Lower Roswell Road. The project includes resurfacing, adding a raised median and turn lanes, extending sidewalks, and creating a multi-use trail. Aimed at reducing crashes, it has raised concerns among local business owners about potential traffic and economic impacts during the two-year construction period. Commissioner Jerica Richardson delayed the project to address these concerns, developing a fact sheet and appointing a construction ambassador to work with businesses. Key decisions on land acquisition and construction contracts will be discussed at the meeting. STORY 7: 'God's Amen': Marker for Famed Vinings Folk Artist Unveiled The Georgia Historical Society, in partnership with local organizations, has unveiled a historical marker honoring self-taught African-American artist Nellie Mae Rowe. Located at the Hotel Indigo in Vinings, the marker commemorates Rowe's life and her “Playhouse,” where she created art after her husband's death. Rowe's home, known for its vibrant decorations and sculptures, was demolished after her death in 1982. The dedication event, attended by about 100 people, highlighted Rowe's influence on American folk art. Her works are displayed globally, including at the High Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A recent Pew poll shows that Black voters support President Biden over former President Trump in the 2024 election by a wide margin, but not as wide as four years ago. On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, host Bill Nigut and special co-host, Tamar Hallerman, are joined by AJC enterprise reporter Ernie Suggs for a discussion of the complicated choices Black men are facing as they decide on voting in the race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Ernie also shares insights from his interview with Morehouse College president David Thomas, who worked to navigate the controversy around President Biden's visit to Morehouse as graduation speaker. Also on today's podcast, Professor Gillespie offers insights about whether the Trump guilty verdict in the Manhattan hush money trial is moving voters away from the former president. And later, GOP candidate Chuck Hand, who is in a runoff for the GOP 2nd congressional district nomination, walks off the stage moments into the debate with his opponent Wayne Johnson. Bill and Tamar explain why. Some killers are pathetic. Some are genuinely sorry. And then there are a few – rare but always memorable – that are truly evil. To the outside world, he was a young, urbane, university educated qualified psychologist. A nice boy, and a good next-door neighbour. When in fact, he was the devil next door. Over Easter weekend 2021 Luke David Fawcett murdered his next door neighbour Maree Collins and her brother Wayne Johnson for no apparent reason. The details of their murders, and the things he did during, in between and after the crimes sent shivers up the spine of everyone in the courtroom. The West Australian's Police Editor Shannon Hampton was inside the courtroom. She joins host Tim Clarke as they go through the details of the chilling crimes. **WARNING: This case is very graphic and contains details which may disturb some listeners *** For all the latest on courts and crime visit thewest.com.au. This is when Clemson turned to Duke Energy for guidance. The university started the conversation with Duke Energy in April of 2007. By mid-November, the university had a new generator, two new UPSs, 250-ton air-cooled water chiller, and four new computer room air handlers. The university went from piecemealing together their strategy to a fully functioning infrastructure. A Board-Approved Financing Option Clemson University worked with Duke Energy to identify areas that are ready to be improved or equipment that needs to be replaced. The university signed a 10-year agreement with Duke Energy and amortizes the cost across the length of that agreement essentially transferring CapEx to OpEx. Instead of needing the funds upfront to purchase and install equipment, the contract spreads the cost across 10 years. This structure has made budgeting a lot easier for the university. Approval is easier with an amortization schedule vs. obtaining approval for millions of dollars upfront. Most university campuses are struggling with deferred maintenance costs, especially in facilities. Now Clemson University's facilities team can propose a solution that removes them from the CapEx competition on campus in exchange for a little more OpEx. Not only will this help with resiliency, sustainability, and efficiency initiatives now, but it will also make sure those goals deliver across the lifespan of those assets. An innovative business model Part of what makes Duke Energy's contracts so successful is their flexibility. Duke Energy has its own in-house structuring, counsel, engineering, and operations teams. These teams determine what each client is good at, and then Duke Energy prices and builds solutions around what the customers do and what they need. As a company, Duke Energy wants to have relationships with customers working collaboratively to deliver solutions across time because that's where the most significant energy savings and reliability services outcomes are found. Considerable savings can occur when working together to develop these contracts and partnerships. Rather than simply selling a product and leaving the rest to the customer, Duke Energy is involved in the design, build, operations and maintenance phases. Working through these phases with a single vendor can save money while achieving the comprehensive outcomes, including sustainability, reliability, and resiliency. In this episode of Beyond the Meter, host John Failla is joined by three Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions team members. Mark Adams is the Business Development Manager, Mike York is the Strategic Account Manager, and Wayne Johnson is the Key Segment Manager for Education. These experienced executives walk through practical steps toward gaining approval for resiliency projects. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Understanding the project [02:21] Making the business case for a project [05:59] The “Money Authority Need” concept [10:14] Barriers to communication [15:21] The DISC profile [20:34] Building consensus [24:03] Risk-adjusted cost [30:22] Before the C-suite meeting [39:58] Making the business case Achieving internal buy-in for energy managers is a common challenge. Many projects miss the mark on this critical first step in making the business case for a project. Fully understanding the project, need, and goal will lead to precisely what's necessary for a project to achieve that goal. Starting with the end in mind and understanding the process will direct how the project is communicated. Everyone has different communication styles, so choosing the right person to present varies by initiative. Typically, engineers can speak to engineers and do a reasonably good job communicating with finance. Still, many engineers would find it a challenge to translate an initiative into business results and talk to executives. The presentation must be succinct, with further data ready for when there are deeper questions. The goal is to give people the information they need to make a reasonable decision and not drown them in detail and minutiae. With data, details can become muddled in the impact, degrading the target outcome's importance. Begin with consensus The default starting point for many projects has been receiving approval from finance. However, finance tends to wait to follow after the authority has expressed initial interest. At that time, a higher priority is placed on the project, and the project will receive more support. The entry point has to be with the individual with the need. Finance tends to look for a simple payback or some framework that may not apply well regarding the replacement of assets. The presenter will need to present the initiative in such a way as to anticipate and overcome objections. Finance finds comfort in consensus. If approached with a project that already has people from various departments working together to push it forward, finance is much more likely to join. Finance will need cost comparisons, asset lift management expectations, and expenses. Anticipating these questions means knowing the people in finance and how they communicate. Consider the wider audience When proposing a project to your business, the decision-makers are the primary audience. Often overlooked are the people who don't have the authority to approve a project yet affect how the project proposal is received. Considering these different perspectives and bringing them on board is crucial in making the business case for a project. Success is unlikely if a solution doesn't receive support from the engineering, facilities, and finance departments. This concept applies in other industries as well. In education, the sustainability officer doesn't typically have much money to spend or authority to leverage but is influential in the process. Being attuned to the broader audience will help gain the project's approval and its overall success. One of this year's Centennial Farms belongs to EllaFaye Johnson of Marquette County. She tells Mid-West Farm Report that her late husband, Wayne, did not want to continue farming the way his dad did, and so they started Westfield Nursery & Florist in 1946 to serve the surrounding communities. Pictured from left to right: Sam, EllaFaye, Anna and Wayne Johnson in the greenhouse in 1947. Wayne's parents, Sam and Anna, frequently worked in the greenhouse and flower shop. The greenhouse provided spring bedding plants (geraniums, petunias, etc), vegetables & throughout the year chrysanthemums, carnations, poinsettias, Easter lilies, etc. They had plenty of plants and flowers to sell to local customers and to use for weddings, funerals and special occasions. EllaFaye's daughter, Barbara, helps share the history of the Centennial Farm.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He happened to look down at what his counselor had jotted down on a piece of paper in his school file. He couldn't help but take a peek. What did it say? The 3 words could've set his destiny in stone forever. “Not college material.” The phrase sank into his mind, solidifying what his future may entail – anything but college, he concluded, based on his counselor's findings. After all, a counselor would know, right? So how did this “not college material” Muscogee man end up achieving his master's degree, followed by his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, working for the Muscogee Nation as Secretary of Education, getting published in articles on Indian education, becoming Tribal Assembly President, and Educational Counselor appointed by the Governor and working on the executive board for the Johnson O'Malley Program? Oh, and not to mention, also serving our country in the Navy too! My guest in today's episode is Dr. Wayne Johnson, and despite his hard work and success, he and I humbly said to me, “None of that compares to when I was a teacher.” God bless you, Wayne! In this episode, you'll hear about: • The precious words of Wayne's mother detailing how she was taken from her family and sent to Chilocco Indian School • How Wayne and his siblings were taken to a children's home • His powerful experience at Haskell Indian College • How his parents believed in and influenced their sons' futures • His work at Riverside Indian School, Haskell Indian School, Pine Ridge Reservation, Flandreau Indian School and Rosebud Reservation • Pine Ridge Reservation and the events that occurred there, such as Wounded Knee Massacre and more • His friendship with Oglala Lakota, Tamakoce Te'Hila, (known as Billy Mills), 1964 Olympic gold medal champion, and how no one was expecting an American Indian to show up and win I hope you'll take inspiration from Wayne's story (and Billy Mills' too) and feel empowered to do what you're meant to do in life, despite what someone may have said to or thought of you. The world is your oyster, my friends so release those chains of others' opinions and go seize the day! Native ChocTalk Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/nativechoctalkpodcast
