A number of eras and movements occurred afterward, such as the Jim Crow Era and the Civil Rights movement to further the fight for equality in this country. Where are we now with the understanding of where we are as a country today? What have we accomplished? What is in our way? We first welcomed Kate Valentine to the Singing Teachers Talk podcast back on episode 85. But now, Kate is back with us in episode 135, to tell us all about Valentine Voice Care Lewes, a centre for vocal wellness development, prevention, and rehabilitation, which she has built in East Sussex KEY TAKEAWAYS The mission of Valentine Voice Care is to offer unparalleled care and support to anyone who has a voice through a biopsychosocial approach to cater to the needs of a really wide range of different groups. A biopsychosocial approach addresses complex interactions between biological, psychological, and social factors to better understand health, illness, and voice care delivery. Valentine Voice Care came about from Kate's own experience with vocal injury which had such a profound effect on her. She discovered that those who are mute for a period of time find it hard to express their opinion or personality which can feel isolating. Kate has seen an increase in psychological troubles with singers and musicians since the pandemic. Having had a long time not working, they had to step back into an insecure industry which had less work. The 5 pillars of care that Valentine Voice Care are aiming for are prevention through education, early identification, rehabilitation through targeted therapies for each stage of recovery, specialist vocal coaching, and encouraging long term vocal health through maintenance. BEST MOMENTS ‘It felt like hell, I was so lonely and felt so stripped of my identity because of my vocal injury' ‘This shrinking pool of opportunities means everyone is anxious' ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway' EPISODE RESOURCES Guest Website: valentinevoicecare.com Social Media: Handle: @valentinevoicecare Contact Kate to Book Your Treatment or Service: kate@valentinevoicecare.com info@valentinevoicecare.com Discount Code: Use the code BAST50 for a 50% discount off VOCAL TRIAGE with Kate Valentine (expires 25th December 2023) Relevant Links & Mentions: Practitioners mentioned: Hannah Sanderson; Daisy Duval; Julie Cooper; Pemma Ashdown; Chloe Spencer; Amy Hunter; Ann Coxhead; Gillian Ramm; Louisa Barry; Philippa Poulton; Leigh Bisset; Rebecca Meitlis; Charlotte Mobbs; Lee Bisset; Rebecca Carolyn Andrews; Sian Winstanley Feldenkrais Method: https://feldenkrais.com/ Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep. 85 Vocal Health Red Flags Explained with Kate Valentine Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep.32 The Bio-Psycho-Social Model with Stephen King Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep 68 Training Transgender Voices with Dr Felix Graham Vocal Health Education: https://www.vocalhealth.co.uk/ British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM): https://www.bapam.org.uk/ Voice Care Centre: https://voicecarecentre.co.uk/ Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep.39 Osteopathy for Singers (and Joint Farts) with Chloe Spencer Marshall Light Studio: https://marshalllightstudio.com/ Do you have a burning question on the voice or being a singing teacher? On May 11th, author Robin James discussed her new book The Future of Rock & Roll: 97X and the Fight for True Independence at The Mercantile Library, with your friendly neighborhood podcast hosts Dave and Damian. The event was streamed via Crowdcast, but due to the dreaded technical difficulties, the first 10 minutes of the discussion have been lost to the ether. However, we reconnected with Amy Hunter from the Mercantile Library staff so she could reprise her intro and then this episode picks up the discussion when the audio came onto the Crowdcast feed.
In this episode, Kenzie and Mona chat with Amy Hunter of Seton Hall University. Listen as we discuss various ways that mentoring can happen, including watching others, having role models, mentoring one-on-one vs. in an administrative role, and doing "stealth mentoring." Amy also provides insights on power dynamics, thinking of mentees as peers in the field, elevating and providing opportunities, and the importance of networking broadly outside our discipline. We also talk about the Society for the Teaching of Psychology's Professional Development Mentoring Network, which Amy currently serves as Director. Learning about your breast cancer risk can empower you to make important breast care decisions to take charge of your health. If you are at higher risk of breast cancer, talk with your doctor about a screening plan that's best for you. You may need to be screened earlier and more often than other women. If genetic test results show that you have an inherited gene mutation, you may also consider risk-lowering options, such as risk-lowering drugs, prophylactic surgeries, or clinical trials. Today's guest has an extensive family history of both breast and ovarian cancers and tested positive for a BRCA1 mutation at a young age. Here today to tell us her story and how she's worked with her doctors to create a screening schedule to keep a close eye on things while allowing her to fulfill her life dreams is Amy Hunter.
In this episode Eric interviews Amy Hunter from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. Amy is a behavioral neuroscience who enjoys teaching a variety of courses, served as department chair for seven years, and she is quite active in the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP). After Amy very politely corrects Eric on the difference between flashbacks and reverse order, Amy shares her academic story, with an undergraduate double major in psychology and biology. Amy discusses the importance of having a functional department and how different individuals take a turn in serving as department chair. Amy is a runner, so we chatted about her running options while at the Annual Conference for Teaching in Pittsburgh in October 2022. We end on the importance of mentoring and role-modeling.
Happy 2023! I sat down and talked with My "Red". Red is Amy Hunter.Amy joined our family over 5 years ago when she and Josiah fell in love. This is our first public conversation about her family and her relationship with God, Josiah, and our family. This conversation was fun, insightful, and simple. God has a promise for our lives. Amy details her family history and how her plan was designed by her feelings, but leaning into God's plan has bought her to create a family with two kids and a husband. I am grateful for her details and the opportunity to understand that family isn't designed by what we go through but created by how we love. My prayer for all my children is for them to find a partner that will love, support, and grow with them as they grow with God. Red is that person for Josiah and we are blessed to have her as a part of our family. The truth will always be - your perspective is your reality. Listen with an open heart to know that we all come from a different story, but the story can have a happy ending. Thanks for listening. If you enjoyed this podcast, the best compliment is a referral. We have tons to talk about! England have announced their new head coach, Jon Lewis not to be mistaken for the other Jon Lewis or the department store John Lewis. The Hundred has announced a draft for the women which begs the question should we copy the men's game? Former Ireland player, Kim Garth is in the Australia squad for their upcoming series in India. The Blaze (Cricket with Purpose) replaces Lightning and have announced their contracts. Lauren Winfield-Hill is back in the England squad but there's no room for Bryony Smith or Maia Bouchier. Katherine Brunt will not feature in England's ODIs but herself, Nat Sciver and Heather Knight are back. In the WBBL, Laura Harris' strike rate has been through the roof and Georgia Redmayne celebrated too hard, injuring her achilles, which of course, she made a meme about. It all comes down to the final as Strikers take on Sixers! We also chat to Ireland's Jane Maguire all about the Pakistan series, the World Cup and more. We will be back next week with Ireland's teenage superstar, Amy Hunter who is set to feature in both the U19 World Cup and the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa but in the meantime, our Instagram, TikTok & YouTube is “Noughtie Child Podcast” and our Twitter is “00ChildPodcast” so feel free to give those a follow to stay up to date!
"Own the history, tell the truth, sit with the discomfort”. Since our chat with Amy Hunter last week, we haven't been able to stop thinking about Truth and Reconciliation. In this episode we take a deep dive into its history, and applications, and what it would mean for the U.S to adopt its own T&R process. Listen to hear us talk about: - Truth and reconciliation: what does it really mean? - Does the U.S. need a T&R commission? - Feeling personally attacked: this isn't about you, and you don't need to get your feelings hurt. - Being representative of your race: black folks are constantly equated to their race, white people can own their whiteness too. - Imagining truth & reconciliation: what would it look like? Who would be in the room? - You don't have to agree, but you can listen. - Apologies: do they mean anything? What if there was a system to walk us through this? - Sage's ABCDE framework for cross-cultural communication Resources mentioned 1. Hour 1 of The Dawn Stensland Show: Local News Headlines/News Rundown On Saturday night, three people were killed and another eleven people were hit by gunfire during a shooting on South Street. Two of the suspected shooters have been taken into police custody. On Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner held a press conference where he addressed the weekend’s South Street shooting. During the press conference, Krasner blamed mass shootings on the National Rifle Association (NRA) and elected officials who take money from the “gun lobby”—claiming those politicians “sold their souls.” In a statement to Fox News Digital Sunday, NRA spokesperson Amy Hunter said, “Philadelphia has been awash in crime for years as a result of Krasner’s ineptitude.” U.S. Senator Pat Toomey stated Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are closer than ever to agreeing on bipartisan legislation that would help address national gun violence. Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate John Fetterman has revealed new information about the stroke he suffered several weeks ago, explaining that he “almost died.” During his concession speech, Dave McCormick endorsed Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Dr. Mehmet Oz in the retired physician’s campaign against John Fetterman. According to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) billionaire George Soros has donated nearly $40 billion over the last decade endorsing the campaigns of progressive prosecutors—including Philadelphia’s Larry Krasner. Soros-backed San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin now faces a recall vote on Tuesday.

If you are a book lover, you are probably also a library lover. Those two things just go together, like peanut butter and jelly or Sherlock and Watson. Some book lovers not only visit their local libraries all the time, but they also visit libraries when they travel. Carrie, for example, checked out Maison de la litterature in Quebec City when she visited several years ago. It is cool to see what libraries in other places look and feel like. Closer to home, there is a membership library in Cincinnati Ohio that would be well worth a stop if you find yourself in the Queen City. Our guest this week, Amy Hunter, is the programs and marketing manager at The Mercantile Library, one of only about 18 surviving membership libraries around the country. She gives a crash course in membership libraries that were invented by Benjamin Franklin before the rise of public libraries at the turn of the 20th century. Amy talks to us about the unique history of the Mercantile library including some of the interesting rules that were imposed back at its inception in 1835, about the wide variety of speakers they have hosted from Ralph Waldo Emerson in the 1800s all the way to Margaret Atwood just a few years ago, and why many people consider the Mercantile a “steampunk” fantasy in library form. Books Mentioned in this Episode: 1- Charlotte's Web/Stuart Little by E. B. White 2- Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh 3- Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan 4- Sweet Taste of Liberty by W. Caleb McDaniel 5- Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld 6- Heavy by Kiese Lemon 7- Silver Sparrow/American Marriage by Tayari Jones 8- TigerLand by Will Haygood 9- The Book of Delights by Ross Gay 10- Perestroika in Paris by Jane Smiley 11- Meet Me at the Museum: A Novel by Ann Youngson 12- The Ghosts of Eden Park by Karen Abbott

Amazing IBO, Pro Staff & Huntress – Amy Hunter Amy Hunter : I have been an avid archer since about the age of eight years old. It was a family activity mostly shooting bag targets in the gravel pit. As I grew up, my love of the outdoors, including shooting and hunting grew stronger and I became interested in shooting as more than just a pastime. I am a successful hunter as well as competitor. In recent years, the interest in shooting became more than a casual pastime as I started to shoot more competitively. I started shooting indoor league at a local shop, Barrett’s Bowhunting, where I was encouraged to start shooting 3-D, and found a real love for the sport. Through time spent working in the shop I was encouraged to become a certified instructor to better assist customers. In 2016, along with other local shoots, I won the I.B.O. sponsored Northeast Known Yardage Triple Crown in women’s open class, Most recently I placed first overall in the Hoyt Series for I.B.O. and qualified and placed in the top ten at the NY State competition, and qualified for worlds.
