Send us a textKatie and Bridget light the bar on fire as they re-watch the very 2000's movie: Coyote Ugly! It's a movie all about how pursuing your dreams of becoming a famous song writer in NYC is EASY and will only take you about TWO MONTHS with absolutely NO PLANNING NEEDED! ...YEAH! Come along as we meet Violet, an aspiring song writer who has no job, a shitty apartment, and no plans, but moves to NYC anyway even though she's from South Amboy NJ and could have just taken the train in(?). But don't worry, when she gets a job at the Coyote Ugly, a sexy bar that is definitely not up to code, she'll build up the confidence she needs to sing in front of people - via weird karaoke! With the help of her possible boyfriend Kevin, a guy who likes having sex in front of cardboard cutouts; her dad, the best character in the movie; and Lil, the owner of the Coyote Ugly who may or may not have the hots for her; she'll discover what it takes to be a star! Let's face it, we're all just waiting for the LeAnn Rimes song at the end! Released in 2000, it stars Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Melanie Lynskey, and Bridget Moynahan.

What Were They Thinking?

The love of Nathan's life picks the movie for the guys this week as Patty selects the 2000 hit Coyote Ugly. Does this movie take place in Vin Diesel's Beautiful World? How about that guitar/breakdancing duet?! Why doesn't she leave that body-shaming Australian boyfriend? How many times will they recognize famous people as extras in the film? Marvel Comics factors into the plot? And what is going on with all of those weird standees in the music store? All this and more! Next week: It's Mariah's turn! The show also stars Malcolm McDowell as Pop Critch, Mark Critch's grandfather and Claire Rankin as Mark's mother. In Son of A Critch Season 3, Mark faces a near-death experience, business ventures, and explores stand-up, culminating in a reflective night with friends before saying goodbye to middle school. Then, we'll get to know Adam Garcia. You'll remember him as Kevin O'Donnell the Australian heartthrob in Coyote Ugly, who, after one striptease scene at the bar, becomes the boyfriend of Violet, played by Piper Perabo. He is also an Olivier Award nominated stage star, and television actor who is best known for lead roles in musicals such as Saturday Night Fever and Kiss Me, Kate. Adam Robert Lewis sits down, virtually, with director Sara Sugarman.Sara, born in Rhyl, began her career as an actress making her television debut aged just 14 as ’Jessica Samuels’ in the BBC teen-drama ‘Grange Hill’.Sara moved away from her acting career in the 1990s and decided to further a career behind the scenes, directing.Sara gained praise behind the camera with a number of award-winning short films. Some of Sara’s early directorial pieces took place on location in the Garw Valley, where I grew up and consider home. Sara’s 1996 film ‘Valley Girls’, starring Gemma Jones and Wendy Phillips especially resonated with me. Wendy, affectionately known as Mrs Mop due to her previous job as our school cleaner, inspired me to go after my dream of acting. Sara and her faith in Wendy’s talent indicated that the dream was indeed possible.Sara returned to the Garw Valley in 2001 to film cult-classic ‘Very Annie Mary’, a musical-comedy written and directed by Sara, starring Rachel Griffiths and Jonathan Pryce. I have fond memories of this proudly Welsh film and coincidentally consider it as my first acting job albeit as a very young extra amongst the crowds!Sara soon moved from the Welsh valleys to the Silver Screen of Hollywood, where she directed motion pictures with Disney including teen-flick ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’, starring Lindsey Lohan, Adam Garcia and Megan Fox.Sara’s most recent project “Saving the Cinema’ for Sky Movies, follows the story of Liz Evans and her campaign to save the local Lyric Cinema, starring Samantha Morton, Tom Felton and Jonathon Pryce. This interview held an extra ‘special something’ for me, almost a feeling of things coming full circle. Being able to discuss how my passion for acting began because of Sara and her work was truly an honour. And so with every story, we must start at the beginning…Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/brewingactors)

A wonderful movie where a woman travels far (one state and one hour) away from home to pursue her music career.  We ask the tough questions, this week:  Could Jerry Seinfeld have an illegitimate lovechild in Australia?  What does the term 'Stage Fright' actually mean?  Is Blondie the only thing people can agree on?  And what's the deal with answering machines?? You're leaving a message because no one is answering!  Listen to the podcast - then watch the movie or vice versa!  But stay home, please. What do you need to go out for? Maybe groceries?  Then go back home. Stay home. No need to go out. Pretend you're in an underground fallout shelter. It's therapeutic (and just safe, right now).  HEIGL Meter!! Today’s podcast has three interviews from the 2018 Backcountry Trails Program debriefing. They were recorded on location in September, 2018 at Camp Mather, just outside of Yosemite National Park. The Corpsmembers interviewed are: George Godfrey: Inyo crew. Interview starts at the 4:00-minute mark. George managed a Humboldt County bagel shop before she joined the Backcountry program through AmeriCorps. George’s crew got involved in some serious mountain trail work in Inyo National Forest. Listen to George describe the fall protection...like ropes...the crew needed to use to safely work on some of their switchbacks. Adam Garcia: Klamath/Stanislaus crew. Interview starts at the 11:00-minute mark. Adam came to the Backcountry Program after working trails for the Conservation Corps New Mexico. The Backcountry was a little different experience, and Adam tells us the hazards that the lack of indoor plumbing can bring.  Eric Rasmussen: Shasta-Trinity crew. Interview starts at the 18:25-minute mark. A CCC Corpsmember at the Fortuna Center before the Backcountry, Eric got to see some high mountain lakes and climb Thompson Peak and Caesar Cap Peak--the two highest peaks in the Trinity Alps. (Note: the link goes to somebody else’s story of Thompson Peak and Caesar Cap, but it includes some great photos of things that Eric would have seen on that trip.)   Between-the-interview topics in this podcast are: Safety: importance of safety to the CCC program; “If it’s predictable, it’s preventable;” job hazard analysis The multitude of service corps opportunities around the United States. These are just a few: Montana Conservation Corps, Wyoming Conservation Corps, Texas Conservation Corps, New Hampshire Conservation Corps, The Trail Corps This episode also has a teaser for an upcoming episode on the Tehama Fire Center.
