For this month's clinical corner, Matt and Allie discuss a case study where a Physical Therapist was able to save a life! An 83 year old woman was referred to Physical Therapy by her doctor for back pain radiating into her hip for 2 weeks. After evaluation, and consideration of her health history, the PT requested further imaging of her spine. This then lead to a PET scan which uncovered metastatic disease, masses, nodules and carcinoma. Matt and Allie are back with the Clinical Corner for June. You'll learn about a case involving a patient who jumped back into running long distance to train for a half marathon and suffered sharp pain in her ankle and was no longer able to put weight on her foot. Even after seeing an MD, being prescribed pain medications, getting an X-ray, and testing negative for any further injuries, this patient was still in pain. She decided to see a physical therapist to get evaluated. She was referred to get an MRI, which uncovered a stress fracture in her ankle.
