Scott Fawcett flips the script and interviews me—Paul Salter, The Golf Hypnotherapist—to pull back the curtain on what hypnosis actually is (and what it's not), how it compares to meditation, and why so many golfers struggle with their mental game and stay stuck even when they "know what to do." We dig into the real reason consistency collapses (hint: it's not laziness), what I mean by destructive mindset programs, and how fear of next-level success quietly drives self-sabotage. I also explain memory reconsolidation—why your past isn't "over" just because you've compartmentalized it—and how releasing old emotional charge can free up energy, focus, and execution when it matters most. In this episode, you'll learn: The real difference between hypnosis and the "pocket watch" caricature Why meditation helps—but why it often isn't enough for identity-level change How fear of success can be the hidden reason you stop doing what works What "memory reconsolidation" is and how it impacts performance Why the yips and performance anxiety often have roots outside golf The difference between surface-level tools vs subconscious rewiring Why stress is often an "energy leak" from unresolved internal conflict If you've tried sports psychology, visualization, breathwork, and self-talk… and still feel like there's something deeper running the show, this conversation will connect a lot of dots. High-Performance Hypnotherapy and Mindset Coaching Paul Salter - known as The Golf Hypnotherapist - is a High-Performance Hypnotherapist and Mindset Coach who leverages hypnosis and powerful subconscious reprogramming techniques to help golfers of all ages and skill levels overcome the mental hazards of their minds so they can shoot lower scores and play to their potential. He has over 16 years of coaching experience working with high performers in various industries, helping them get unstuck, out of their own way, and unlock their full potential. Click here to learn more about how high-performance hypnotherapy and mindset coaching can help you get out of your own way and play to your potential on (and off) the course. Instagram: @thepaulsalter Key Takeaways: Hypnosis isn't mind control—it's a natural brain state you already enter daily. The work is simply learning to access it intentionally for change. Meditation and hypnosis overlap in brainwaves, but hypnosis adds direction. It's not just relaxing—it's targeted problem-solving and identity work. Most inconsistency is subconscious protection, not lack of discipline. When success feels unfamiliar, the mind pulls you back toward "safe" and predictable. Self-sabotage is often sneaky and cumulative. It shows up as small broken promises (sleep, meditation, workouts), not just obvious destructive behaviors. Next-level performance requires detachment from outcome. "Need to / have to / should" language is a dead giveaway you're gripping the result. Memory reconsolidation changes your relationship with the past. You don't erase memories—you drain the emotional charge so they stop hijacking the present. Your golf game carries your whole life onto the course. Unresolved family dynamics, identity pressure, and old emotional pain can create mental interference that looks like "golf problems." Key Quotes: "Hypnosis…it's not magic. It's not brainwashing. It's a natural state of mind." "If you know what to do and you're not doing it…that's a mindset problem." "Most people are afraid of next level success or being the best version of themselves." "The sneaky lowercase-s self-sabotage…is breaking the little promises you keep to yourself." "You can control your process…but not the outcome." "Memory reconsolidation is like opening a Word document and doing some editing." "You bring your whole self to the golf course…most of the stressors are completely unrelated to golf." Henna Pryror Speaker. Executive Coach. Workplace Performance Expert. Considered one of the best recruiters on the east coast - and gave it all up. She had an incredible sales and consulting career. She shattered records and was in the top 10% of the company every year. She loved the industry – but her heart broke every time she helped a high-performing employee exit their high-potential team. Socials: LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/hennapryor Instagram: www.instagram.com/hennapryor Facebook: www.facebook.com/hennapryorcoach Summary: In this episode, workplace performance expert and bestselling author Henna Pryor joins the show to discuss the hidden challenges of the modern workday. The conversation dives deep into why many professionals feel like "drunk baby giraffes" navigating constant change and how "social muscle atrophy" is impacting team dynamics in a hybrid world. Henna shares why embracing awkwardness is a professional advantage and offers actionable strategies to rebuild social courage and connection. Key Takeaways: - Social Muscle as Currency: Your ability to navigate social discomfort is a hidden performance currency in today's workplace. - The "Atrophy" Epidemic: Remote and hybrid work have caused our social skills to weaken due to a lack of real-world practice and a tendency to avoid difficult conversations. - Awkwardness is an Emotion, Not a Trait: Awkwardness is a unique form of social discomfort triggered by uncertainty and change, rather than a permanent personality flaw. - The "Drunk Baby Giraffe" Mindset: Leaders must model being okay with "stumbling" through change to encourage their teams to take risks and keep moving forward. - Focus on the Start: The hardest part of social interaction is the "activation energy" required to begin; focusing on simply starting can overcome most social anxiety. What if the very conversations you're avoiding are the ones that could change everything? In this episode, we explore the hidden cost of silence, and how choosing “peace” over honesty can slowly erode trust, connection, and even joy. Many of us were taught to keep the peace, smooth things over, or stay quiet especially when the stakes are high in families, partnerships, and leadership roles. But as today's conversation reveals, avoiding hard conversations doesn't actually protect relationships. It quietly damages them. This episode is for anyone who knows something needs to be said, but isn't sure how, when, or whether it's safe to say it at all. I'm joined by Amy Brodsky. Amy is Founder and CEO of Sky Partners, a Performance Coaching, Facilitation and Advisory Firm. Amy has spent her career helping CEOs, Leadership Teams, UHNW Families and high-profile individuals navigate their most confidential and complex matters, including challenging team and family dynamics. Amy helps CEOs and Leadership Teams achieve the utmost success through exploring their current thoughts and patterns of behavior while supporting them as they create shifts to increase performance, professional relationships, awareness and peace. Amy has 30 years of experience in leadership, transformational change, negotiation and executive coaching across sectors. She is a well-known speaker on the topic of Family Dynamics, Performance Coaching and Acquisitions. This is not about being confrontational. It's about being honest. It's about understanding the difference between peace and avoidance, and learning how to reclaim your voice without burning bridges. In this episode, we explore: Why avoiding difficult conversations creates fear, dysfunction, and lost potential The emotional dynamics that silently shape families, teams, and organizations The difference between technical problems and adaptive (human) challenges How self-awareness, intentional listening, and inquiry rebuild trust Why psychological safety and dignity are foundational—not optional—for performance About the Guest:Amy Brodsky is a performance coach and advisor who helps CEOs, leadership teams, and families navigate high-stakes conversations, succession planning, and deeply rooted relational challenges. The collaboration with Arena Labs brings forth a vital focus on using data and coaching to build resilience among medical professionals. 🏥How This Applies to the Emergency Department or ICU? In the chaotic and high-stakes environment of the ED/ICU, healthcare professionals are often required to make split-second decisions under pressure while managing emotional stress. “When a trader stops trying to fix themself, and starts understanding themself, that's when trading can really transform. “ – Andrew Menaker – The AlphaMind Podcast In this episode, we explore how performance coaching transforms traders' mindsets, sharpens decision-making under pressure, and builds routines that sustain a long-term edge.Hosts Steven Goldstein and Mark Randall sit down with performance coach and professional trader Andrew Menaker to examine the psychological shifts that drive lasting improvement in trading performance. While many view trading as a technical challenge—charts, systems, strategy—Andrew argues the greatest gains come from transforming the person behind the P&L.
As 2026 gets underway, Nicole Brown is joined by performance coach Aoife Leggett of 360 Coaching to explore how riders, professionals and passionate amateurs alike can make the most of the Year of the Horse. Drawing on her experience in elite yards, corporate environments and performance psychology, Aoife shares practical tools to help listeners build clarity, protect their energy and lead themselves with intention in a demanding sport. This episode is all about aligning ambition with sustainability and learning how to illuminate and inspire, rather than running on empty. In this episode, we cover: The Year of the Horse: what it means for equestrians Aoife explains why 2026 is known as the Year of the Fire Horse and what that represents in terms of momentum, courage and opportunity. The conversation explores the fine line between powerful forward energy and burnout, and how riders can channel this year in a way that supports long-term success. Pillar one: clarity Nicole and Aoife discuss why so many riders lose sight of why they started and how comparison, pressure and social media can cloud decision-making. Aoife shares how reconnecting with your own values, mindset and definition of success can bring focus back to both riding and life more broadly. Pillar two: energy The equestrian world is notorious for long hours and relentless schedules. Aoife breaks down why fatigue is so common and how small, realistic changes can make a big difference. From sleep and recovery to identifying what genuinely gives you energy, this section focuses on sustainability without drastic life changes. Pillar three: leadership Leadership isn't just about running a yard or managing a team. Aoife explains why it starts with how you lead yourself, the habits you keep and the standards you hold in private. Creating positive culture, whether at home, in a professional setup or with a small support team, plays a huge role in performance and wellbeing. Goals, habits and identity Big goals can be motivating, but only if they're backed up by meaningful processes. Aoife talks about the importance of milestones, identity-based habits and narrowing your focus so progress feels achievable and rewarding rather than overwhelming. Breathwork for riders Aoife introduces breathwork as a practical tool for calming nerves, improving focus and managing pressure. She shares a simple breathing exercise that listeners can use anywhere, and explains why breathwork has become a staple for elite athletes across many sports. Silvester. Neujahr.
This week, host Richard Graves sits down with one of the most energetic and thought-provoking voices in modern performance: Niklas Virtanen, Head of Sports Science at FC Midtjylland. If you've ever wondered how a club without the financial muscle of Europe's giants consistently outperforms bigger teams, beating Nottingham Forest away, winning at Celtic, and challenging at the top of the Danish Superliga, this conversation tells you exactly how they do it. Niklas is a rare blend of passion, creativity and evidence-based practice. His presentation at a recent Catapult event had the entire room hooked, and this episode delivers the same energy. From dismantling traditional GPS limitations to redefining how football teams train for micro-actions, set pieces, and physical dominance, Niklas pulls back the curtain on the processes driving Midtjylland's success. This episode goes deep into the real-world application of sports science, the balance between data and intuition, and why sometimes the most powerful competitive advantage is simply learning to “solve problems without money.” Things You Will Learn * Why FC Midtjylland's entire model is built on “solving problems without money” and how data gives them a competitive edge. * How Niklas and his team dominate set pieces using Trackman technology and detailed ball-flight analytics. * Why GPS alone is blind to football's most important movements, and how inertial data captures the micro-actions that matter. * How to use accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers to measure real football movement quality. * The truth about injury “prediction,” why we still don't know athletes' limits, and why subjective data is often your most valuable input. * How to balance analytics with player feelings, coaching intuition, and the “eyeball test.” * Why communication, not technology, is the biggest challenge when coaching staffs change. * Practical ways to design training exercises that actually transfer to match actions (including why traditional rondos may be overrated). * How to create buy-in across departments in fast-moving environments with shifting coaching teams. * Why the best decisions come from leading with data first, then layering coaching opinions on top. About Niklas Virtanen Niklas Virtanen is the Head of Sports Science at FC Midtjylland, one of Europe's most forward-thinking football clubs and pioneers in data-driven performance. From Finland's Jyvaskyla to the top of the Danish Superliga, Niklas has carved out a journey defined by curiosity, relentless learning, and a willingness to challenge traditional methods. Starting his career as a physiotherapist, he transitioned into coaching, performance, and ultimately sports science — where he discovered his passion for practical, applied, football-specific methodology. At Midtjylland, Niklas plays a central role in integrating data, performance analytics, inertial technology and coaching processes. His approach blends scientific rigour with real-world applicability, always anchoring decisions in the question: “Does this help the players perform?” He collaborates closely with coaches, mental performance staff, physios, analysts, and leadership teams, shaping a holistic performance culture built around trust, objective data, and constant communication. Niklas is known across the professional football community for his high energy, creativity, authenticity, and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of what sports science can be. You'll often find him speaking to — and learning from — industry leaders such as Chris Barnes and Paul Balsom, who he credits with encouraging him to explore unconventional ideas, test them in the real world, and build evidence from the ground up. He shares many of these insights on LinkedIn, where he's become a respected voice for modern performance practitioners. KEY TAKEAWAYSAuthentic Leadership: True leadership and sales success emerge from alignment, honesty, and leading with heart—not just intellect.Redefining High Performance: Midlife offers an opportunity to reexamine success metrics and shift toward meaningful contribution and personal fulfillment.Questioning Assumptions: Revisiting long-standing beliefs (“Could the opposite of that be true?”) opens possibilities for growth and reinvention.Second-Half Strategy: The second half of life thrives on intention, purpose, and legacy rather than relentless hustle.Experimentation & Renewal: Small, low-risk experiments can spark renewed energy and prevent complacency or burnout.HIGHLIGHT QUOTESThe brain knows how to yell loudly and repetitively, but we need to give the heart more voice in the conversation. If you don't define high performance for yourself, the second half of life can feel like decomposition and disconnection. The best thing we could hope for is that the next generation faces a higher level of problems because of the conversations we're having now. It's about the bravery and courage to talk about the things no one talks about—but everyone thinks about.
This week on the Science for Sport podcast, host Richard Graves is joined by boxing legend Johnny Nelson MBE, the longest-reigning cruiserweight world champion in history. With a story that spans early losses, a transformative mentorship under Brendan Ingle, mental resilience, structural discipline, and elite-level performance, Johnny offers a rare window into the mindset and preparation of a world-class athlete. From his humble Sheffield upbringing through a gritty apprenticeship in Europe to standing atop the world with 13 title defences, Johnny reflects on the physical demands of his sport, the mental architecture that carried him, and how those lessons translate into high-performance sport science environments today. Whether you're working with elite athletes, exploring pathway development, or investigating the interplay of mindset, culture and performance. This episode delivers actionable insight. You'll Learn * How deliberate structure and environment in the early years set Johnny's foundation for world-class performance, and what that means for athlete development pipelines in elite sport. * The interplay between physical conditioning and mental readiness: why Johnny argues that even 99% physical fitness isn't enough without mental strength to match. * How a coach/mentor adapted learning modality to individual athlete needs (story-based learning vs. written instruction) and how that insight translates to sport science practice. * The “apprenticeship phase” of elite athletes: why Johnny spent six years as a sparring partner across Europe, what he learned about failure, character-building and resilience, and how that maps to athlete development models. * The transition out of elite competition: Johnny's reflections on his own injury-forced retirement, loss of gym identity and how elite sport practitioners can support athlete exit and long-term wellbeing. * Practical take-aways on environment design, multicultural team culture, and creating performance contexts that simulate hostile or challenging conditions (drawing on Johnny's anecdotes of gym culture and travelling abroad). About Johnny Nelson Johnny Nelson (born 4 January 1967, Sheffield) turned professional in 1986 after a modest amateur career. He trained under iconic coach Brendan Ingle at the Wincobank gym in Sheffield, where he developed not only boxing skills but a mindset of relentless belief and self-validation. In March 1999 he captured the WBO Cruiserweight World Title and held it until his retirement in 2006—during which he defended it 13 times, the most ever in cruiserweight history. Post-career, Johnny has built a prominent role as a boxing pundit, keynote speaker, and mentor around mindset, resilience and high-performance culture. Heather Moyse is a 4x Olympian, 2x Olympic gold medalist in bobsleigh, World Rugby Hall of Famer, Antarctic peak climber, speaker, coach, and author of Redefining Realistic. With a master's in occupational therapy, she marries elite results with a deep understanding of human potential and mindset.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Own your discomfort. Most “reasons” are dressed-up excuses protecting you from emotional risk. Name the discomfort and choose anyway.Make recovery a system, not a slogan. Rest, cold/heat, mobility, breath, presence. Schedule it like a meeting with your future self.Close the gap from Dream → Plan. Write the first 3 steps and a date. Perfection is procrastination with a halo.Move from Plan → Pursue. Tell one person, set one stake, take one rep today. Momentum creates motivation.Detach outcomes; attach identity. Be the person who shows up, learns fast, and iterates. Results follow.Parent/lead like this: Praise effort, character, and attention. Never make love or respect conditional on wins.Pick one uncomfortable action you've been avoiding and do it today. Have you ever thought about running an event in space? Yeah… me neither—until today. In this episode, I sit down with Brody Lee, an entrepreneur who turned a near-death experience into a mission to change the world through human connection. From selling fake hall passes in high school to closing $20k at his very first (one-person!) event, Brody's journey is nothing short of wild.We dive into how events aren't just about selling from the stage—they're about curating transformational experiences that respect the real costs people pay to show up: their money, time, and relationships. Brody breaks down why treating your attendees like ATMs is a losing game, how he built (and walked away from) a $3.5M business, and why he's now aiming for a billion-dollar moonshot with events that could literally take us to the stars. If you've ever wondered how to create meaningful, profitable events—or if you just need a reminder of what's possible when you refuse to quit—this is an episode you'll want to grab a front-row seat for. On this powerful episode of the Let's Go Win podcast, I sat down with Nate Green, a former cop, bestselling author, serial entrepreneur, and leadership coach who embodies grit, heart, and family-first values. Nate's story is one of brutal lows and unbelievable comebacks: from being paralyzed in his twenties and told he might only live a decade, to walking again, building and selling multiple companies, and now dedicating his life to helping others rise.Key Takeaways:
Welcome back to Ditch the Labcoat, where we break down the highs, lows, and real talk of life on the frontlines of medicine. In this episode, Dr. Mark Bonta sits down with Brian Ferguson—a former military special operator and founder of Arena Labs—to explore what it truly means to perform under pressure in today's healthcare landscape.Drawing on his unique experience in both military special operations and high performance coaching, Brian unpacks the surprising similarities between the worlds of medicine and the military: relentless stress, long hours, a drive to serve, and the ever-present risk of burnout. Together, Dr. Bonta and Brian dive into actionable, science-backed strategies for stress management, sleep recovery, and resilience—techniques inspired by elite athletes, fighter pilots, and creative professionals, but tailored to the real challenges healthcare workers face every day. This isn't just a conversation about burnout or self-care. It's about honoring the trust society places in clinicians—and learning how to show up at our best for our patients, our teams, and our own families. Whether you're a seasoned doctor, a new resident, or just someone chasing your own version of peak performance, today's episode is packed with practical wisdom to help you thrive in high-pressure environments.Plug in for a thought-provoking, entertaining, and genuinely useful discussion that just might change the way you approach your work—and your life.Episode Lessons Sleep Is Foundational Performance — Prioritizing sleep is essential for peak performance, decision-making, and longevity—especially in high-stress healthcare environments.Shift Culture, Not Just Schedules — The outdated badge-of-honor mentality around sleep deprivation in healthcare must be replaced with a performance-focused narrative.Embrace Science-backed Recovery — Active recovery—intentional downtime and enjoyable activities—significantly restores energy, resilience, and emotional health for clinicians.Measure What Matters Regularly — Consistent tracking of sleep, stress, and recovery using wearables helps target and improve health and performance outcomes.Performance Tools Are Transferrable — Techniques from elite athletics and military training can greatly benefit healthcare professionals facing similar high-pressure demands.Early Adoption Builds Resilience — Learning and practicing high-performance skills early in medical training equips clinicians to handle future stress more effectively.Community Strengthens Well-being — Strong teams and shared purpose provide essential support, prevent isolation, and buffer against the stresses of clinical practice.Reframe Burnout for Growth — Focusing on human flourishing, not just preventing burnout, fosters a culture of aspiration and ongoing improvement in healthcare.Healthcare Deserves Elite Support — Division 1 athletes have more performance resources than most clinicians; bridging this gap is vital to sustainable healthcare excellence.Episode Timestamps 03:58 – The Alchemist: Lessons for Medical Training 09:20 – Military Fiction's Team-Based Allure 12:23 – Healthcare and Military Similarities 15:24 – Trust and Nuance in Medicine 17:06 – Sleep: The Key to Performance 20:18 – Recovery Beyond Medicine 25:07 – Evolving Healthcare Performance Strategies 29:01 – Science-Based Human Performance Tools 30:36 – Real-Time Solutions to Burnout 33:13 – Clinician-Led Decisions vs. Wellness Trends 38:08 – Decline of Team Spirit in Healthcare 39:14 – Unlocking Personal Performance Tools 44:06 – Redefining Healthcare Performance Norms 47:30 – Fostering Sustainable Peak Performance

Ever catch yourself crushing in business…but low-key running on fumes? Like you're pushing hard, but your body's throwing quiet warnings you can't quite decode? In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I'm resharing a powerful Guest Guru training from inside The Happy Hustle Club—our private community featuring Justin Roethlingshoefer, Celebrity Health Expert and Founder of Own It Coaching. Justin doesn't sell hacks; he engineers paradigm shifts. His mission: help leaders stop sacrificing health for the mission and start running their bodies like their business.Justin's story is raw and real. As a kid, he battled both obesity and anorexia and even faced liver and kidney failure at 16. That pain turned into purpose: two undergrads, a master's, pro hockey, a doctorate's worth of research on sleep and heart rate variability (HRV), plus deep training in functional medicine and cellular healing. He went on to become Director of Player Performance in the NHL, then stepped away after a personal health scare (precancerous polyps and a bleeding ulcer) to build Own It Coaching with his wife—a 50-person team now guiding 3,500+ high-performing founders and creators. They even built “The Health Haven” in Miami to show people how to live differently, daily. Why it matters: Justin is the rare coach who blends faith, science, and systems so your health outcomes become inevitable, not accidental. Here's what you'll learn in a nutshell:HRV is the language of your body. A higher HRV = better adaptation to stress.Oxygen is step one. VO₂ max isn't just for athletes—it's a wellness vital.Sleep is your detox system. Quality beats quantity.Fix the base before the boosters. Symptoms (low T, poor sleep, brain fog) rarely mean you “need more hormones.” Hormones open pathways; vitamins, minerals, and amino acids create the raw materials.Consistent + intentional behaviors over time = inevitable outcomes. If you're ready to go deeper and hear Justin's full training—the stories, the frameworks, and the practical protocols—hit play on the episode and let's level up your health, leadership, and longevity together. In this episode, I sit down with Jessica, a professional organizer for successful families. She ran a busy business and trained with me in BBM, but her progress stalled. She'd book an occasional coaching session, leave with a list, then get stuck in overwhelm- avoiding the work, skipping workouts, and losing momentum in her business. When she shifted from one-off sessions to weekly performance coaching and business mentorship, everything changed. We started executing in real time, building her structure week by week, and strengthening her leadership with clients. Now:• Her tasks are completed before the week is over• Her workouts are consistent and her body is changing• She speaks to clients as a leader and holds her boundaries• She creates consistent, targeted Reels that speak directly to her ideal clients• New leads reach out saying, “You're speaking to me”• Her business moves forward every single weekIf this resonates and you want to work with me, DM me or book your complimentary Coffee & Goals consultation here:

Entering the financial world at the age of 20, Guy Gane went on to become one of the foremost Financial Advisors in the United States. As a stockbroker and Registered Investment Advisor, owning his own firm and with multiple offices nationwide, Guy managed investment portfolios for thousands of clients and many millions of dollars. In 2008 he was accused of money laundering and mail fraud and despite his vehement denials, as well as passing multiple Polygraph tests, Guy, nearly four years later, was sentenced to prison for thirteen years, of which he eventually served nine. It was there that Guy set an example of resilience, fortitude, and the method to overcome incredible obstacles. Taking charge of the only thing left to him – his mind, Guy began his new life-journey of authorship along with defending the vulnerable and the forsaken as well as coaching the discouraged and the overwhelmed. Through personal guidance and intelligence, gleaned only by experience, Guy, upon his release in 2020 formed the company Gane Wisdom. As one of the nation's premier Thought Leaders, he is now able to impart a message of hope, of encouragement, of forgiveness and of achievement. Along with Gane Wisdom, Guy organized Prisoncology. You built the business. You built the team. You built the life. But now… what? This is the moment no one warns you about. When the business you poured everything into is running—maybe even thriving—but you feel restless. Detached. Like maybe you've outgrown what once felt like everything. In this episode, Kris Plachy opens the door to a new conversation—one that's been quietly forming behind the scenes. This isn't a pivot away from leadership. It's a leap into deeper truth. She speaks directly to the woman who's questioning what's next: The one who can't imagine walking away, but can't imagine staying the same. The one who keeps showing up for her business, but secretly wonders if it's still hers to love. The one who has succeeded by every metric but still lies awake at night asking, “Who am I now?” It's time to meet her—the woman beyond the CEO. Here's what we explore The raw emotional terrain of success that no one prepares you for Why so many Gen X founders are hearing a whisper they can't ignore The difference between leaving a business and leaving yourself behind And how to start writing the next chapter—without rushing the ending of this one If you've built a beautiful business but you're starting to dream in a new direction, Kris made this episode for you.
