Stephen Cook has served as senior pastor of Second Baptist Church in Memphis since 2010. Under his leadership, the congregation has embraced its identity as a center of Christian community throughout the week, recognizing that ministry happens far beyond Sunday mornings. Cook guides Second Baptist with a vision “to know Christ and to know its village,” forming disciples shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus while loving neighbors in tangible ways. His pastoral leadership emphasizes shared life, spiritual formation, and deep engagement with the surrounding community, cultivating a church rooted in presence, relationship, and faithful witness.

The technological Valley of Death sounds dramatic because it is. In the life cycle of a program or product, it's the difficult divide between concept and production. “[The Valley of Death is] called that because many, many programs get to level three, level four, and they don't go any further, or they may make it to level five, but they don't go any further.”Why is the technological Valley of Death such a hot topic? Because getting a product from one end of the valley to the other - from inception to operational - is how innovative ideas come to life. But things don't make it across the valley often enough. Innovation is the lifeblood of an organization - if new ideas don't get to the operation stage, a company's growth quickly stalls. Stephen Cook, Deputy Group President at Dynetics, knows all about the technological Valley of Death. In today's episode, he explains why it's so hard to cross the valley successfully, and how Dynetics and Leidos successfully live in the valley. “Don't fear it. Right. It's gotten this name for good reason. But there are reasons to change it and there are ways to deal with it.”On today's podcast:What is the the technological Valley of DeathWhy it has become so common5 keys to success in crossing the Valley Examples of innovations that made it through the Valley

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, preventing severe disease and death from the virus and the variants that cause COVID-19. As Albertans prepare for an easing of COVID restrictions next week, some business owners are ready to get back at it and some people look forward to working out at the gym again or dining at a pub. However, others think it's too much too soon as news continues about the presence of variant strains in the province. It brings up questions about whether we know how and where COVID cases are spreading, so CBC reporter and associate producer Stephen Cook takes a look at where we're at with contact tracing in Alberta. Rowan Ley with the University of Alberta Students' Union explains how a colony of penguin snow sculptures got the conversation started about cuts to post-secondary education. CBC reporter Josee St-Onge explores the fascinating story of what an antique shop owner discovered when he purchased an estate belonging to the late Madame Rac, a beloved Edmonton piano teacher. Investigative reporter Jennie Russell takes us through a disagreement between the city's police commission and union, and a professor at the University of Alberta discusses some curriculum controversy.
