This week is a very special episode to celebrate the fact that... PENN IS 50! Cue Sally O'Malley! (Those of you who are old enough get the reference.) To commemorate the occasion, Penn shares a bunch of lists with me: Things that mean a lot more at 50, thing that mean a lot less at 50, things he is cranky about at 50, and goals for the next 50! (Yay, goals... my favorite!) We also end the episode with some roasts from Taylor Calmus of Dude Dad, Myles Montplaisir of You Betcha, comedian Charlie Berens, and members of our team: Ann Marie, Sam, and Desmond. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Today's episode has been a long time coming. My guest, Taylor Calmus and I shared the stage at Dad 2.0 back in February of 2020 right before the pandemic hit.On this episode we talk about many things, including what it was like when he started the Dude Dad and in particular what it means to be married to a strong, wonderful woman who believes in you and pushes you to greatness. Taylor Calmus, better known as Dude Dad, is a Colorado-based video creator who makes comedic content all about fatherhood and family life. His videos feature everything from sketches to crazy DIY projects and even heartfelt thoughts about the joys and challenges of fatherhood. Taylor is also the host of Super Dad, a DIY show on the Magnolia Network, where Taylor helps other dads create amazing backyard projects for their kids. In this week's episode, we sit down with the man behind the "Dude Dad" platforms, Taylor Calmus. He's got a new book out all around helping new Dads learn how to get ready for the new baby that will be in their life Numerous apps and books exist to help expectant parents understand their baby's development by comparing their unborn child to a raspberry or a stalk of broccoli, but Taylor Calmus takes issue with that. First off, your baby is not some wimpy little vegetable. Your baby is a hardcore little lug nut who is straight-up growing organs on a weekly basis. Second, how big is a stalk of broccoli? And what the heck is a kumquat? Clearly this situation calls for a better approach. Enter . . . "A Dude's Guide to Baby Size: What to Expect and How to Prep for Dads-to-Be." Calmus' new book is full of fun facts about the growing baby, advice on how to help Mom-to-be, as well as ideas and encouragement for fathers on their journey from Dude to Dude Dad.
