We had a delightful conversation this week with the writers of Kings of Ohio, Kat Likkel & John Hoberg.  Kat & John kicked off the interview by telling us about their six adopted goats. They gave us an in-depth recap of what it was like to work with Pixar on their new movie Elemental (coming out on June 16th, 2023). How their years in TV writing prepared them for that development process, a process that taught them to be more flexible and less precious in their own writing. They also share their origin stories into Hollywood, how they got staffed on My Name Is Earl, and even more on the plethora of writers' rooms they've been in. Kat & John are great writersand even better people. We know you're going to enjoy this one. Our dead pilot this month comes from two brilliant scribes: Kat Likkel & John Hoberg (Elemental & My Name Is Earl)! Their pilot is a half hour single camera dramedy called The Kings of Ohio. It centers around a blue collar laborer, Brad, who is trying to keep his two best friends Ronnie (fast talking schemer with a "plan") and Carl (a combat vet with a short fuse) from falling through the cracks in an economically depressed town in southern Ohio — all while attempting to win back the love of his life — his estranged wife Darla, a tough as nails clerk at the local Walmart. Kings Of Ohio was inspired by Kat & John's childhood, drawn from people they grew up around in Ohio and Kansas. It was set up at ABC Network and we know you're going to love it.We had a terrific cast for this one including Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Dustin Ybarra (Easter Sunday), Carl Tart (American Auto), Cyrina Fiallo (Life In Pieces, Community), Mark Gagliardi (Blood & Treasure), Hal Lublin (The Venture Bros), and Andrew Reich with stage directions. If you'd like to see the video feed of Kings Of Ohio, you can do so by going to maximum fun.org/join and become a member for as little as $5. For $5 you'll get our entire catalogue of bonus content and a bunch of bonus episodes too! Tune in next week for our interview with Kat & John. Thanks for watching and supporting our show! In this episode I sit down with the multi-talented and amazing Chrissy Metz! You probably know Chrissy from her starring role as Kate in the award-winning NBC hit series "This Is Us." She is an Emmy and two-time Golden Globe nominee and the show was the winner of the 2018 and 2019 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensembe in a Drama Series and People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama." She has also starred as Joyce Smith in the hit 20th Century Fox faith-based film, "Breakthrough," where she performed the song "I'm Standing With You" on their Breakthrough soundtrack, which was written by 10 time Academy Award nominee Diane Warren. Chrissy got to perform that song during the 2019 ACM Awards. She has been in other roles such as "The Last OG" and the NBC hit series "Superstore." Before her role in "This Is Us," she was also best known for her roles in American Horror Story: Freak Show, Sierra Burgess is a Loser, My Name Is Earl, Entourage and many more. But aside from her incredible acting accolades, she is also an amazing singer-songwriter and now a #1 NYTimes best selling author! In this episode you're going to hear the story about how she learned to carry a crown before she could wear one, about her journey on how she became Kate Pearson in that hit show "This Is Us," her musical journey as a singer/songwriter and what she has coming up soon along with great life lessons. Her brand new book that's only been out for about a month or so now is incredible! I got the opportunity to attend one of her book-signings and it was literally a line through the bookstore to meet her and her co-author Bradley Collins who has also been a great friend of mine for years. Some people do not start off as great right off the bat while others could get success initially but get failures later on. The point is to learn from this.Whether you are doing comedy, public speaking or a presentation, you should always be prepared for what you are talking about. You should practice to a point that you come off as authentic and unscripted to your audience. You need to know your material so well that you can go off on a tangent ans still stay on track. Nothing does well if you are not prepared for it.Always learn, watch and grow while you are working with people that are in positions that you want to be in. You can learn from your peer's achievements and failures.Always take time to reflect on your life. Celebrate the wins and achievements that you have made while appreciating the growth. Looking back on where you have been also helps to direct where you want to go in the future.Remember to control what you can and let go of what you can't.If you have certain dreams or aspirations that are unfulfilled, you will regret it. Don't leave them at the table, instead go out and try it. Win or lose, the point is to try.
