We are inundated with so much content everyday--both good and bad--and sometimes it's hard for something to breakthrough the noise. This conversation with Laurel Day, President of Deseret Book Company, and Sharon Eubank is one of those that we hope breaks through for you. Sharon redefined big concepts in this conversation like: what it means to be a humanitarian, what a miracle really is, and the power and purpose of our covenants. Many of us first became aware of Sharon when she served as a former counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sharon has an incredible view of the world through the work she gets to do in the humanitarian efforts for the Church and she is also a former business owner. *Help me reach my goal of TEN new reviews this week on Apple Podcasts! If you have been enjoying Unleashing Sister Saints, please take one minute to leave a rating and a review. Thank you!* This week I am delighted to share my conversation with Reyna Aburto and her daughter, Elena Aburto, on the topic of mental and emotional wellbeing. You will recognize Reyna as the former second counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, where she served with President Jean B. Bingham and Sharon Eubank from 2017-2022. In the October 2019 general conference, Sister Aburto spoke powerfully about mental illness, sharing some of her daughter Elena's experience with depression and anxiety. Reyna and Elena join me today to discuss the origins of Sister Aburto's conference message, Elena's experience with depression and social anxiety, and how perfectionism and emotional wellbeing relate. Reyna and Elena close by sharing how participation in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ can ease the anguish of those with mental and emotional suffering. If Mother's Day is hard for you, know that you're not alone! Mother's Day is this week and while it's a day to honor and celebrate moms—it's not always a happy day. In an article from Sharon Eubank titled, "The Idea of 'Mothers in Zion' Made Me Mad—Until I Learned What It Meant" she said, “Mother's Day … is often an emotional and spiritual minefield for almost everyone: Women who have no children, or who wanted more children, or maybe different children. Women who feel they are failing, or that someone failed them, or that failure is around the corner. Women who wished they were free to mother, or feel cut off from their mothers, or never had the mother they wanted, or can't be the mother they want to be.” "This life is practice mothering, not to perfect it." Joining Kathryn in this episode is Lori Thurston. Lori and her husband Bob are preparing to serve a service mission in Pakistan. Top takeaways from this episode: No matter the circumstance you are in--a mom with many children, no children, mixed families, single mothers--you can learn the lessons of motherhood. Mother is both a noun and an adjective. Whether or not you have birthed children, you are able to mother God's children as part of your divine role here on earth. Our Heavenly Parents see all of eternity before us, so we have all of eternity to perfect mothering. The Savior has many qualities of a mother, and we can become more like the Savior as we participate in this mother-work. Small and simple challenge: Prayerfully consider who it is in your life that has helped to mother you or your community that isn't already on your mother's day list. Thank them for the mothering that they do that is unconventional. Let them know that they were helpful in mothering.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

God is the author of the book. It is a record of a fallen people, compiled by inspired men for our blessing today. Those people never had the book—it was meant for us. Mormon…abridged centuries of records. God, who knows the end from the beginning, told him what to include in his abridgment that we would need for our day.”(Ezra Taft Benson, Ensign, May 1975)“The scarlet dye of the Old Testament was not only colorful but also colorfast, meaning that its vivid color stuck to the wool and would not fade no matter how many times it was washed. [See “Scarlet, Crimson, Snow, and Wool,” Ensign, Dec. 2016, 64–65.] Satan wields this reasoning like a club: white wool stained scarlet can never go back to being white. But Jesus Christ declares, “My ways [are] higher than your ways,” and the miracle of His grace is that when we repent of our sins, His scarlet blood returns us to purity. It isn't logical, but it is nevertheless true.” [2019–A:73, Sharon Eubank, Christ: The Light That Shines in Darkness]“Today I testify of miracles. Being a child of God is a miracle. Receiving a body in His image and likeness is a miracle. The gift of a Savior is a miracle. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is a miracle. The potential for eternal life is a miracle. While it is good to pray for and work for physical protection and healing during our mortal existence, our supreme focus should be on the spiritual miracles that are available to all of God's children. No matter our ethnicity, no matter our nationality, no matter what we have done if we repent, no matter what may have been done to us—all of us have equal access to these miracles. We are living a miracle, and further miracles lie ahead.” [2017–O:88, Donald L. Today, we're listening to Sharon Eubank, the worldwide director of Latter-day Saints Charities, the billion-dollar humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She addressed the J. Reuben Clark Law Society at its Annual Fireside in 2020 and spoke about nine revolutions that she believes are paving the way for a “feast of fat things”—a future celebration with God and the human family. As a bit of a sidebar, hers is the most watched Law Society fireside on the Society's YouTube channel, where you can watch the entirety of her remarks.
Karly, Chelsey & Karin are together again on today's episode to talk about the sometimes very difficult emotions that can accompany Mother's Day. We want you to know that wherever you find yourself today that we love you, see you, and validate your joy or pain. We love and appreciate you all! "Don't let sadness obscure the view. Your covenants have already paved your path. Keep going. You are doing better than you know. I think the Lord would throw His arms around us and let us know we are worthy enough to keep going and our sacrifices have been acceptable before Him. He would tell us He is reserving for us all that is in our hearts, unspoken things that only He could know. He would say that He sees us and all we do behind the scenes, that we are not invisible to Him. He would ask of us the same thing He asked Peter: "Lovest though me?...then feed my sheep". (John 21:15-17)-Sharon Eubank

Latter-day Saint Commentary from the Pacific Northwest - Rocky Mountain Sunshine Podcast
In today's episode we take a second look at Sister Sharon Eubank's talk from the October 2020 General Conference. Sister Eubank is the First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am a HUGE fan of Sharon Eubank and I get so much out of her talks, so I wanted to go back and study this a bit more and share some of my thoughts. My mission president was Elder Neil L Andersen, who is now serving in the Quorum of the Twelve. I remember that he would tell us missionaries to make the talks from General Conference our walk and talk for the next 6 months. I need to admit that when I was younger, I did not feel that anything said during the Womens' Conference was meant for me so I really did not pay much attention to it. It was not broadcast on the internet and I didn't go watch it at the stake center, so it was easy to ignore. I have repented for that and sometimes talks from women's conference are some of my favorites. I was a big fan of Sisters Sheri Dew and Julie Beck and started to listen more and more to the women's sessions. Now with it being streamed live on the internet, it's much easier to hear the talks. I really look forward to hearing from many of the general auxiliaries. As I said in the introduction, I've become a big fan of Sharon Eubank. Eubank is a familiar name to Utah natives. Mark Eubank was the white jacket-wearing weather guy on KSL TV. When the camera would go to him and you saw that he was wearing the white jacket, you knew that snow was coming. His son, I'm assuming Sharon's brother, Kevin Eubank, took over as the KSL meteorologist in 2006. Sister Eubank is currently the First Counselor in the General Presidency of the Relief Society. If you don't know what that is, it is the Church's organization for 6 million female members 18 and over. She continues her role as the president of Latter-day Charities, the humanitarian organization for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a side note, I would love to work there some day, so if anyone is listening from there, and you have a position open, shoot me a message! I know the glamorous life of selling cables must be a skill that could be used in Latter-Day Charities. I often joke that my company is a non-profit, but that is not by design! Haha. Especially in 2020…. Aye aye aye. OK. Tangent accomplished. Daily Prophet: Talks from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
As we seek union of feeling, we will call down the power of God to make our efforts whole.
Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency, delivered October 13, 2020.
Most of us identify or feel connected to ourselves through one of two things-- what we do and how we feel. This is understandable but can also be problematic because it builds our sense of self on shifting ground. If our sense of worth or sense of self is tied to what we or to wether or not we have positive emotions, we will find undue hardship when those two things inevitably change through life circumstances. Today's three takeaways to help build our sense of self: MIND: Empty your thoughts onto paper. Gaining awareness of what is going on inside our minds helps us understand more our role in our experiences, and ultimately helps us to choose more intentionally who we are being in any given moment. BODY: Have a conversation (or ongoing dialogue) with your body. Maybe write it a letter, and let your body write a letter back to you. If we can think about our bodies as our partners or our allies, it's much easier to offer them support, that in turn allows our bodies to support us more fully. PURPOSE: Give someone the gift of you. Each of us has a unique soul, and the worth of souls is great. The most generous gifts we can give or receive is the gift the fills the hunger for human connection. Sharon Eubank quote: "If we change our perspective so that caring for the poor and the needy is less about giving stuff away, and more about filling the hunger for human contact, then the Lord can send us someplace... and remember that in the same way as the Savior, you yourself are one of the best gifts that you can give to other people in need." --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/michelle48/message
