Today's episode focuses on the very basis of Agile: its principles and values. Steve McConnell recently gave a keynote at XP2021 in which he said they need to be updated. You'll hear a quick recap of Agile's beginnings, what was happening in software development when people got together at that Snowbird conference: primarily "code & fix" and the SW-CMM (Software-Capability Maturity Model). Steve will describe the current non-agile institutionalization of Agile. Then Steve and Mark will work one by one through the Agile values and principles to describe their relevance (or lack of relevance) to today's software development practices and culture.

Blue Bear Executive Director Steven Savage starts this one off telling us all about Tennessee Mowrey's step-mom. It's a story that involves three siblings (Bonnie Hayes and two of her brothers) who showed up at the fledgling music school in 1971 when it was located on Ocean Ave. Susie, Tennessee's step-mom, knew Bonnie from both of their touring gigs (possibly a Billy Idol tour), and Bonnie brought Susie to Blue Bear. Tennessee joins in to give a little more context to his step-mom's story. Then Steve rewinds a bit to share the story of Blue Bear's opening. Originally started as a way to make money while the band aimed for stardom, the school saw success in the first few years, with something like 60 students enrolled. But it started to founder a bit, and Steve had left. He got a phone call asking him to come back and save the operation, and he did. There was a sizable debt to pay off. But in 1977, they made the decision to move to Fort Mason. And with that, the school started to grow. We talk about how they went about recruiting students back then, a common practice in those days that might surprise some of you. These days, it's mostly word-of-mouth, and to a somewhat sobering effect: 40,000 students have enrolled at Blue Bear in its 50 years. We talk about how the school has evolved its teaching philosophy, especially with the advent of completely new genres of music. And then we hear about a few standout success stories coming out of Blue Bear. We end this podcast with Steven and Tennessee talking about what it means for Blue Bear School of Music to still be here after 50 years. If you missed Part 1, please go back and check that out. And for the Jack Black video that Steven mentions in the recording, watch here. We recorded this podcast at Blue Bear School of Music in Fort Mason Center for the Arts and Culture in June 2021. How often should YOU-- or the person you hire to manage your investments—be buying and selling the stocks you own?  Here's something to Ponder: Every time you sell a stock, there is someone buying it who thinks you're wrong. In fact, the math is simple:  one of you MUST be wrong and time will tell.  Who buys a stock when you sell it? SOMEONE has to, and to them what you are selling is a bargain.  Are they fools? Actually, most stocks are bought by very large very smart institutions. The price they pay you is the price they believe will make THEM money. Today, we'll take a look at just WHO buys most stocks that individuals sell, and it may surprise you. Then Steve will layout a strategy for avoiding emotional decisions with your money.  An important show for you today,  MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

More Content Talk: News That Cuts Through the B******t

Steve Harvey is crazy. There isn't much else to say really. I mean, this guy has some serious balls to get on television and say the things he does, especially considering a very large majority of his target audience are two groups he offends the most, that being women and black people. Steve Harvey had been working the comic circuit for years before he rose to prominence; this is understandable, considering that rising to prominence in performance is quite difficult for most people. However, his brand of comedy remained unappealing to most people because well...it was old. Harvey even admits this in his act, frequently referring to himself as "old school", as if that were some kind of excuse. He must not have known that actors like John Witherspoon, who was about 30 years older than Harvey, had been using that act for years, while at the same time honing their skills for a newer audience, exactly what you are supposed to do as a comedian, and the reason John Witherspoon remains a beloved figure in entertainment after his passing. Steve Harvey fails to realize that saying you are "old school" is pretty meaningless while you have a new iphone in your hand. You have to change with the times or you become irrelevant, which is exactly what happened to Steve Harvey before his rise to stardom. Steve had fell off and fell off hard. Enter Spike Lee, who directed the now critically acclaimed King's of Comedy, featuring D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac. The performances is Kings of Comedy were so great that all the stand up comedians who starred in the show would receive a ton of offers for shows and movies. Bernie Mac got his own show. The Hughleys were also born from this movie. And Cedric the Entertainer was in every movie involving black people for almost a decade. The movie also showed a lighter side of Spike Lee, and made his work more accessible to the general public. The movie was a smash hit. But what to do with Steve Harvey? Steve had already starred in his own show on the WB prior to ever hosting the Kings of Comedy. Steve did a few movies here and there, but didn't really get as much acclaim as the other performers. His standup was much less topical than the other performers and he just didn't really get as many laughs as the others. So, the movie did nowhere near as much for him as he probably would have hoped. Steve ended up hosting a morning radio show on KBLX; this, not the KIngs of Comedy, is what really solidified him in the daytime talk show host community. However, Steve Harvey was not really the funny one on the show. The show was a success because of Tommy "Nephew" Miles, Harvey's nephew, which is where he gets the stage name. I used to listen to the Steve Harvey morning show all the time, but I clearly remember hoping that Steve would shut the hell up and let Tommy do his thing. Miles was great at impressions, so great that a whole segment was devoted to Tommy's prank calls because that was the funniest segment on the show. Tommy Miles is a true talent, and way funnier than Steve has ever been. Harvey spent most of his time on the radio show plugging his latest book, the title of which I don't remember or care to know. It was basically a book on how to get women that he dressed up as some guide to being a man. Women on the show would call in looking for help for real problems and Steve would give them awful advice. The show remained popular because of Miles. Then Steve basically ghosted on his nephew when he started getting offers for daytime television. Now he hosts the family feud and also appears on various talk shows, making the rounds and spreading his false gospel on how to be a man. Well, Steve, you have to be a man before you can give advice on being a man. Real men can obviously separate their sexual urges from everyday life. I am about as straight as you can get. Most of my friends are women, and I have never had sexual contact with any of the women that I call friends. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/morecontentplease/support

We have a great show for our listeners, let’s talk about buying that second property for yourself or to rent out, a place to getaway, a place to experience, a place to fixer upper. Steve is an expert in purchasing these types of properties and he has a lot of great information to share. Find Steve @steve.haid on IG his website www.stevehaid.com his email stevenphaid@gmail.com and his phone number 416 277-6604 The wine is on the table, a bottle for each of the three nationalities represented on the show today, Portugal, Italy and Germany. On with the show. There is a massive push for 30- and 40-year-olds to purchase fixer upper waterfront cottages from the aging population. You would be surprised, there are a lot of cottages on the market. Steve recently purchased his own place up there last year, a 1900 two story that needs a lot of construction love and right off the bat, Steve’s budget doesn’t line up with construction reality, but the guys discuss what it would really cost and what type of contractor you will attract the lower your budget goes. You honestly get what you paid for. Steve walks the listeners through the key steps involved in purchasing that property and it might not be a cottage on the lake, it could be rural, it could be a condo as the market grows up in cottage country. Steve is talking about a potential 20-30% return on your real estate investment. The conversation deviates into Manny never wanting to own a place up there himself because Manny is not an outdoorsy kind of guy and you will never catch Manny portaging or shitting in a thunderbox. The guys talk about working with all of the governing agencies up there and how particular they are when it comes to shorelines, wildlife and wearing camouflage pants. We discuss tech and how everyone is now on wifi and data networks and how those details are assisting with security and home office functionality for cottage owners. Then Steve hijacks the conversation back to his own place and asks how long the renovation will take, Steve thinks a month, that way he can disappear to Costa Rica and return to a completed reno, not the case as Manny and John enlighten Steve on the truths of timelines. Steve speaks openly about how badly clients up in cottage country desperately want a “hands off” experience and want the contractor to take full responsibility over everything from the permits to design. John and Manny even suggest Steve should consider renovating his home into a passive home, especially after hearing that Steve spends over $1000 per month on electric heat. So much to consider when it comes to cottage country living. Thanks so much Steve for walking us through the ups and downs of cottage purchasing, renovating, and living. On a day when blue chip stocks took it on the chin, stocks that had been on their deathbed like GameStop, Bed Bath & Beyond, and AMC Theaters had field days. What the heck is going on, you might ask. Well, analysts are scratching their heads because none of the fundamentals have changed from a month ago. We still have trillions of dollars on the sidelines to buy even more stocks in 2021, checking and savings accounts are at high levels, the Fed is keeping interest rates low, and at least a trillion dollars in extra stimulus money is on the way. The blue chips fell a bit, but will likely find their way back to moving upward soon. Today, we'll examine what exactly how these small stocks are  skyrocketing, and what candidates for sudden similar moves might be out there. Then Steve will bring us down to earth and reveal some very smart moves to make with your retirement portfolio right now, for longer term satisfaction.  A timely and informative show you don't want to miss....MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!

Steve Smith Sr. stops by to tell Michael Robinson and Brian Billick about one of his favorite, never before told locker room stories (1:55). Then Steve dives into the pressure he felt ahead of his first playoff game both on the field and off trying to get his family to the game (8:05). The All-Pro wideout also shares the excitement he felt after beating the Dallas Cowboys (13:50), and the anguish after losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the postseason. He explains how the loss left him feeling uncomfortable about the playoffs (16:05). Coach Billick, Mike Rob and Steve then discuss how they made younger players on their teams realize a trip to the postseason isn't a guarantee (20:05). Finally, Coach asks how the wide receivers coach at Santa Monica Community College was able to handle both Steve and Chad Johnson at the same time (27:30). That experience helped Steve cultivate the 'chip on his shoulder' mentality that propelled him to stardom on the field. Later, he reflects on the mantra he uses to this day to handle the criticism we all face in life (28:50). NFL Total Access: The Locker Room is part of the NFL Podcasts Network.

On January 31st, before even one person died, President Trump shut down travel from China. Everyone has heard of Warren Buffett but not as many people are familiar with the man who taught him how to invest.   Benjamin Graham taught Buffett that the basic difference between investors and speculators lies in their attitudes towards stock pricing.  The speculator, noted Graham, tries to anticipate and profit from price changes—trying to time their buys, and time their sells.   On the contrary, the INVESTOR takes a longer view. His only goal is to acquire high quality companies at reasonable prices.  Today, we'll review what Graham taught Buffett that Buffett admits he has never forgotten, and uses to this day. Again With This: Beverly Hills, 90210 & Melrose Place

After clashing with Amanda over Alison's vision for the MICROCOMP campaign (and, apparently, not really comprehending when she tells him that if it flops, Alison's going to be out on her ass), Steve invites his current girlfriend Jo back out to his ranch that weekend -- and hey, wouldn't it be fun if Alison came? And also Billy, since it would be weird if he were excluded? History repeats itself: Billy correctly assesses that Steve is into Alison and risks life and limb -- this time by riding a horse (sort of) out to spy on them; Alison denies that Steve has feelings for her and whines about Billy's jealousy -- after all, she's not jealous about Billy's new co-worker, Celia, who he can't stop complaining about! (Billy shoots back that he hates Celia and since we've certainly never seen crushes grow out of sparky animosity on TV before, that's exactly where their relationship will remain, surely!) Meanwhile, Jo and Steve are getting down to it, apparently for the first time, when Jo admits that she still isn't over Jake, and Steve admits that he's sort of trying to get over someone too. Then Steve and Alison end up alone on the deck.... Speaking of Jake: back in L.A., he's spending more time with Palmer, his boss/Amanda's dad. Getting tipsy tidbits about Amanda's idiosyncrasies from Palmer only tantalizes Jake into asking her more personal questions, which she is not interested in answering. And while she's shutting him down at home, Palmer is shutting down Jake's inquiries at work as regards some wild numbers he accidentally saw on some sale paperwork. And when Michael hears that Kimberly's solution to her problem with Michael is to ditch her job and go home to Cleveland, he begs her not to derail her career and promises to be professional at the hospital. He manages to keep it up for one whole scene, so they're probably fine forever.
