Demonic Possession Horror in Amityville NY, Real or Fake, the Conclusion. How many Horrors actually took place at 112 Ocean Ave in Amityville NY. Were they both Real or Fake?  As we continue our journey into the perplexing events surrounding the Amityville horror, we revisit the unsettling tale rooted in the true crimes of Ronald DeFeo Jr. On that fateful day, November 13, 1974, a horrific tragedy unfolded at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, NY. DeFeo committed the heinous act of taking the lives of six family members and was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder. The story doesn't end there. In December 1975, the Lutz family boldly moved into the same house, unaware of its dark history. However, after enduring 28 tumultuous days within its walls, they hastily abandoned the premises, recounting tales of terror brought about by a series of eerie and unexplained phenomena. These chilling experiences served as the historical foundation for Jay Anson's 1977 novel, "The Amityville Horror." The novel spawned numerous sequels and culminated in a 1979 film adaptation bearing the same name. In this episode, we conclude our exploration of the Amityville horror, leaving you to ponder the perplexing question: How many horrors truly unfolded at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, NY? Were both accounts, the DeFeo murders and the Lutz family's claims, real or were they the stuff of fabrication and fiction? It's a tale that continues to perplex and intrigue, and we invite you to join us as we delve into the enigma that is the Amityville Horror. The name Amityville literally translates to “friendship village”—but because of the tragic murders that took place in that Long Island community in 1974, and because of the bestselling book and blockbuster movie that followed, that name has taken on a definition with decidedly sinister connotations. Now, when people hear “Amityville,” they think “horror.” But is that association warranted? Was the house at 112 Ocean Avenue truly a nexus of demonic activity? Or was it all just a brilliant hoax cooked up by George and Kathy Lutz to capitalize on a tragedy? November 13, 1974. South shore Long Island, NY. Six members of the DeFeo family are shot dead around 3 am on Ocean Avenue. Mother, Father, two sons and two daughters. Surviving? The oldest child, 23 year old Ronald DeFeo, Jr. These tragic murders have long-since been overshadowed by a family that moved into 112 Ocean Ave after the DeFeos were brutally killed—The Lutz family—of whom none died. 112 Ocean Ave in Amityville, New York.  A house made famous for causing the Lutz family to flee from it after living there 26 days.  A house made famous in books and movies.  But what is the story behind the story.  While the Lutz's experience may have been traumatic for the DeFeo family, the house was truly that of horror.  On November 13, 1974 Ronald DeFeo, Jr shot his parents and siblings as they slept in the home.  He was subsequently sentenced to 6 life sentences in prison.  The murders were odd as no one in the neighborhood heard multiple shots but it was truly DeFeo Jr's actions after the murders that was truly mystifying.  He told multiple different accounts of how the murders occurred, even at one point inventing a new life for him in New Jersey.  Join Ben & Tom as they dive into the true horror story of the Amityville house.  This episode is sponsored by EKO Health.  To find out more about their digital stethoscope, check out www.ekohealth.com and use code JSP for $50 off your order. What came first, the crime or the paranormal activity? We're not saying the horrific events humans can be the perpetrators of can't charge the metaphysicality of a place or thing. However, we're just here to peak your curiosity, and exercise your critical thinking if you will, on who or what could have came first. Does the cliche domino effect of one causing the other hold true or is there more to this theory? Because humanity can't always kick down the proverbial wall like the Kool-Aid man, touting they've always have and aways will come first. What better way to go about this philosophical, metaphysical, and paranormal brain buster than by using the Amityville Horror House as our focal point? The atrocities this home was witness to seem to have been dubbed not only in the pop-culture eye, but the paranormal gaze too, as the beginning of a paranormal nightmare. Perhaps it's not as simple as it seems. This week gather 'round as Em puts on her medium hat to listen to the souls and spiritual beings intertwined within the history the 112 Ocean Ave. Long Island Home. Will she be able to untangle the ensnared past of the home and the souls surrounding it? Suddenly, this peace was shattered when a young man burst in, shaking and pale, face slick with sweat. He cried out that his entire family had been shot, and he needed help... Amityville, NY, located on the south shores of Long Island is not known for its seaside beauty and small town quaintness despite being located in the shadows of New York City. Rather, it is a town that is haunted. It is haunted by a house that sits on busy Ocean Ave located right off the Montauk Highway. It is not the ghosts that haunt Amityville, as anyone beside the residents think, it's the memories that surround one of the most grisly crimes the island has ever seen.  The true story behind the Amityville Horror House, as most of the country will come to know it as, is more horrifying than any book, movie, or bad sequel could ever be.  Sponsors: Surviving Dirty John by Debra Newell with M. Donald Osborne is an opera singer, museum CEO, international business owner and one of the voices of the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel, California. He knows cars and people and the gift of gab. Osborne recently returned from Europe but in plenty of time for Monterey Auto Week. The coronavirus and its variants are in different stages in Italy and England, where he attended globally renowned automotive events. On Tuesday morning, Aug. 10, the proprietor of Audrain Auto Museum in Newport, R.I., was in his usual perch nearly the judging platform on Ocean Avenue, looking dapper in his official blazer, bowtie and Panama hat. Osborne was among four guests co-host Bruce Aldrich and I spoke with him during the first of our three days of days attending Monterey Auto Week. Kim (above) and Rick Franke own a 1960 Buick Electra 225 and showcased at the Concours on the Avenue during Monterey Auto Week. Images © Bruce Aldrich/2021. "This year we are in a different place," said Osborne, a short while before he sang the national anthem. "It's a testament to both the strength of this event and the enthusiasm for cars that people will do what they have to do come and share an event like with other people." The Concours on the Avenue, abiding by amended COVID-19 regulations, required attendees to show proof of being vaccinated or were required to wear a mask. Car owners, officials and car enthusiasts in attendance with proof of vaccination were light blue paper wristbands. Monterey Auto Week: Classic Cars, Classic Owners Show attendees moved through vaccine stations with short lines and with no longer than brief delays. Enthusiastic covid rule compliance was matched only by the enthusiasm for the oxymoron of common rare cars — Ferrari to Porsche — to rarities even unfamiliar to industry devotees in attendance. Bruce and I also spoke with Kit and Rick Franke, owners of a 1960 Buick Electra 225 and David and Pam Hibbert, owners of 1974 Jaguar Type E 4.2 liter. Its Regency Red exterior was as eye-catching as the Buick and its black sheen. Kit and Rick inherited a 1960 Buick Electra 225 and showcased what they call a "land yacht" for the first time at the Concours on the Avenue. The family has owned the vehicle since 1962. A Regency Red 1975 Jaguar XKE Type E 4.2 was displayed at the Concours on the Avenue during Monterey Auto Week. The Buick, 20-feet long, has been upgraded with disc brakes, LED lights and seatbelts. Its exterior black paint is vivid black, a shade making the darkest of dark black enticing. At the opposite end of Ocean Ave. from the Frankes, the Hibberts sat in short lawn chairs watching over Jaguar. Its Regency Red exterior was as eye-catching as the Buick's black sheen. We discuss its legacy and Rick's Jaguar is his native England. On Wednesday, Aug. 11, Bruce and I attended the Little Car Show in Pacific Grove. Like the Concours on the Avenue, the Little Car Show is free and has the same welcoming atmosphere for those who appreciate vintage cars and trucks We interviewed Jessica Denecour of Pacific Grove, the owner of a 1947 Crosley Convertible. She bought the car as a retirement gift to herself and now drives the car throughout the Monterey Peninsula, but never on the freeway. Like all vintage car owners, Denecour has plenty of stories to tell about her light blue Crosley. It's the way it is during Monterey Auto Week. A few events have been amended,  few postponed for another year. But by any name, Monterey Auto Week to Classic Car Week, and with events from The Little Car Show to the Concours d'Elegance, it's back. The all-encompassing showcase of automobiles and many related areas returns after a one-year COVID-19 hiatus. A crew attends to details on a vintage Rolls-Royce just prior to the bidding during Mecum Auctions at Monterey Auto Week. All images © Bruce Aldrich The festivities begin August 6 and continue through August 15 at multiple locations throughout the Monterey Peninsula. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James it all during this Episode #191 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. We'll be on-site for four days beginning Aug. 9. Plans include a podcast from the Concours on the Avenue in Carmel (Aug. 10) and The Little Car Show (Aug. 11) in Pacific Grove. Aston Martin will have a world debut in Pebble Beach (August 12), and we'll be there, too. Monterey Auto Week: Auto Overload In the meantime, Bruce and I discuss our previous experiences attending various activities during Monterey Auto Week. We agree the best show to attend for the money (it's free) is the Concours on the Avenue. Get there early and watch the cars arrive on Ocean Ave. and the surrounding side streets. It's a show with a variety of vintage vehicles, some rare, some not-so-much. A rare Pagani was featured at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Auto Week. But every vehicle has a passionate owner and the enjoyment of the show is as much to them as it is the showcased of vintage machines. Attending Mecum Auctions (August 12-14) at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa/Del Monte Golf Course is like attending a circus for automobiles (although no cars are mistreated). It's a three-day parade of vehicles for sale, 600 in all, with a vehicle on the auction block ready for bidding every few minutes. We've attended the auction several times. It's held during daytime hours and it's nationally televised. Ticket prices vary but all are inexpensive. It's complete entertainment. Plentiful refreshments are available and the combination of car-and-people-watching is hard to beat. The Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach Golf Links (August 15) traditionally ends the annual celebration. And it will again with the finale's 70th anniversary. It will also be Sandaa Button's 35th presentation as the event chairwoman. The first Bugatti Veyron was auctioned a few years ago during Monterey Auto Week. Blue Bear Executive Director Steven Savage starts this one off telling us all about Tennessee Mowrey's step-mom. It's a story that involves three siblings (Bonnie Hayes and two of her brothers) who showed up at the fledgling music school in 1971 when it was located on Ocean Ave. Susie, Tennessee's step-mom, knew Bonnie from both of their touring gigs (possibly a Billy Idol tour), and Bonnie brought Susie to Blue Bear. Tennessee joins in to give a little more context to his step-mom's story. Then Steve rewinds a bit to share the story of Blue Bear's opening. Originally started as a way to make money while the band aimed for stardom, the school saw success in the first few years, with something like 60 students enrolled. But it started to founder a bit, and Steve had left. He got a phone call asking him to come back and save the operation, and he did. There was a sizable debt to pay off. But in 1977, they made the decision to move to Fort Mason. And with that, the school started to grow. We talk about how they went about recruiting students back then, a common practice in those days that might surprise some of you. These days, it's mostly word-of-mouth, and to a somewhat sobering effect: 40,000 students have enrolled at Blue Bear in its 50 years. We talk about how the school has evolved its teaching philosophy, especially with the advent of completely new genres of music. And then we hear about a few standout success stories coming out of Blue Bear. We end this podcast with Steven and Tennessee talking about what it means for Blue Bear School of Music to still be here after 50 years. If you missed Part 1, please go back and check that out. And for the Jack Black video that Steven mentions in the recording, watch here. We recorded this podcast at Blue Bear School of Music in Fort Mason Center for the Arts and Culture in June 2021. But don't expect any ranting and raving or diatribes here. If there's one thing he's learned it's that having honest, frank discussions about tough topics are crucial to our success as a community. We'll get Chris's views on a wide range of issues he faced during his tenure on Town Council. Ever wonder what a councilor would say when he's no longer a politician? Here's your chance to find out.But it ain't all politics. We also learn how Chris came to Block Island and eventually took the job as Harbor Master. Beyond that, there's a lot of talk about fishing. As owner of BI Fishworks, Chris provides charter service and gear out of his brick and mortar shop on Ocean Ave. And if that weren't enough to keep a guy busy Chris  recently took over ownership of Captain Nick's Rock n' Roll Bar at the behest of his buddy and TGOBI Podcast host, Marc Scortino.Sure, Captain Willi has a full plate. Welcome to the 28th episode of Wild Society! In the sleepy town of Amityville, New York, a large Dutch Colonial style home sits elegantly along the Amityville River on a picturesque street of other comfortable waterfront houses. As you drive down the quiet street, passing the stately mansion at what was once 112 Ocean Ave, it’s almost unfathomable to imagine the horrors that happened to the Dafeo family in the early morning hours of November 13, 1974. What transpired from that event forever changed the town of Amityville, and shot the once peaceful town into permanent spotlight.Authorities struggled for 2 years to find teenage Colton Harris Moore aka the Barefoot Bandit. He was on the run after countless burglaries. Colton continued to baffle the community when he was successful at stealing and flying multiple airplanes, most of the time while barefoot, and without any formal training. For Colton it was all the thrill of the game, and his extreme passion for airplanes.Check out our merch hereSee all of our episodes hereSend us case ideas, or personal stories hereBird Song by Sherree ChamberlainAmityville Murder Sources:All That’s InterestingFancy Pants HomesWikipediaTopicAmityvillemurders.comBarefoot Bandit Sources:CBS NewsCBS NewsLA TimesBBCWikipediaFox NewsSeattle TimesCNNHerald Net

On November 13, 1974, Ronald Defeo Jr. burst into a local bar pleading for help. When bar patrons arrived at his house they found six of his relatives dead, each shot at point-blank range. The grisly murders then led to a theatrical trial where Defeo claimed he was mentally insane due to numerous voices in his head that commanded him to kill his family. After Defeo’s conviction for the murders, the Lutz family, believing that they were getting a bargain, quickly bought the house the Defeo’s were murdered in, including much of the Defeo’s old furniture. 28 days later, the Lutz family fled the house claiming that 112 Ocean Ave. was haunted by malevolent forces. The Lutz family claim was backed up by renowned paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren, who stated that 112 Ocean Ave. in Amityville New York was the most evil they had ever encountered in one place. What is the nature of pure evil? Does evil manifest in people and places through supernatural means or are there other explanations at work? Join us as Drs. The 12th annual show, held in mid-August, is it is every year, featured the full spectrum of vintage cars and trucks. Surrounded by muscle cars, a massive military vehicle and monstrous sedans replete with protruding body parts and lots of chrome, the Metro may have looked out of place. But it wasn't, and it never is in other automotive events. "The car gets a lot of attention because it is unusual," said Aldrich. “We live near Laguna Beach where a Porsche doesn't get a second look. This car goes down the street and people look. My saying is 'Children laugh and dogs bark.' The Amityville house on 112 Ocean Ave. is known as a house of horrors. It all started on November of 1974 when Ronald DeFeo Jr. k*lled his entire family. Later, the Lutz family would move into the home. They claim to have seen all kinds of paranormal activity. Because of the hauntings they only lasted a total of 28 days in the house. They then released a book called 'The Amityville Horror', and countless movies have been released on what happened there. Some people think it was real, and some think it was all a hoax. What do YOU think happened? Hope you enjoy this episode of our podcast!
