(7:14)  Since the news broke about the Waterbury captive story, plenty of stories have come out about the stepmom. Chaz and AJ spoke to Francesca Melio this moring, who had a brutally terrible story to share about her sister, after spending the day with Kim in 1986. (14:34)  Tim Brennan from the Dropkick Murphys was on with Chaz and AJ, sharing his story of joining the band after getting some inspiration from a teacher in Connecticut. (24:14)   Live from Ireland, Keego the comedian was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to share some traditional Irish phrases for everyone to use on their next trip to Ireland. Interview by Angela CroudaceAs the iconic Dropkick Murphys gear up for their long-awaited tour in Australia, HEAVY had the pleasure of sitting down with Tim Brennan, the band's talented multi-instrumentalist. We discussed the upcoming shows, the band's musical journey, and the unique influences that shaped their sound. We kicked off the conversation about Dropkick Murphy's long-awaited return to Australia. When asked if Tim was excited about the long journey, he responded, "Yes, super excited about the long flight," he joked, despite the reality of being six and a half feet tall in cramped airplane seats. "It's going to be top-notch, but I'll tell you, all joking aside, the flight is the worst." However, the anticipation of touching down in Australia quickly outweighed any discomfort. "At least once we get off that plane, we're in such an amazing place."This time round, the tour features Alkaline Trio as the support act, a decision that Tim enthusiastically explained. "The last time we did anything with Alkaline Trio was in Australia… getting to see them and hang with those guys was a pleasure," signalling the eagerness of both bands to reignite on stage. As we dove into Tim's musical background, he shared his early experiences with traditional Irish music. Although his parents weren't particularly musical, his mother's love for the genre and his grandparents' influence laid the foundation. "Traditional Irish music was on a lot. For whatever reason, I took to it; I always liked it as a kid." This early exposure blossomed into a passion, especially after an inspiring encounter with his English teacher, who introduced him to The Pogues. "It sounds like hyperbole, but it totally changed my life."Tim's journey into the Dropkick Murphys began when he connected with Mark O'Rell during their teenage years. After a few years apart, Mark invited him to join the band on the Warped Tour in 2003. "I was 20 years old… I had a great time. That led me to joining the band full-time."As the conversation turned to their Australian tour set list, Tim was excited to reveal what fans can expect. "We've put out three records since the last time we were in Australia… we've got stuff from the very first things we ever did up until our latest album." The blend of new and classic songs promises an unforgettable experience for fans.Tim started his musical journey as a drummer, playing in various bands and selling merch for Warped Tour before having the opportunity to play with Dropkick Murphys, which saw him expand his instrumental repertoire, learning the tin pipe and banjo, amongst other instruments.Lately, Tim's been listening to The Pogues, especially as the season evokes nostalgic memories, "Always in November, December, I'm always heavily listening to The Pogues." He also shared his appreciation for the new Nick Cave record, which has led to him revisiting Nick Cave's entire discography, an excellent choice if I do say so myself.Tim had a heartfelt message for their Australian fans as we wrapped up the interview: "We're so looking forward to coming down and seeing everybody. Come out to the shows, and we're going to have a great time."With an unforgettable journey ahead, the Dropkick Murphys are set to deliver a show that celebrates their anthemic tunes while reconnecting with their loyal Australian audience.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Caper & Berry have been operating for 20 years servicing high-end weddings, private and corporate events at some of the must stunning venues in London and the South East of England. Venues include Royal Academy of Arts, Syon House, Kew Gardens and Hedsor House. They are also the in-house caterer at Chichester Theatre, where Tim has had the opportunity to serve the Queen. Tim talks us through his sumptuous English Country party set in the Surrey Hills for eighty of his close friends and family. Set in a marquee festooned with lights and flowers guests are treated to wonderful cocktails, Whispering Angel Rose, White and Red Burgundy wines, Oysters, Carved Iberico Hams, a Persian Barbeque and to finish off simply Ben & Jerry's Fish food ice cream. Entertainment comes from Coldplay and The Killers and fireworks light up the skies as the party draws to an end. While revealing his party Tim talks us through the development of Caper & Berry as a business and his early experiences in the industry. From initially working in Hotels in the Middle East, to starting a Gourmet Food Truck business straight out of University, Tim has come a long way leading Caper & Berry to 20 years of success. While going through the highs, and lows, of running a business he touches on the importance of waiting, reviewing events objectively before taking action and always doing the right thing by your team and clients. He also discusses the impact the Pandemic has had on his business and the pivots that Caper & Berry have had to make to get through it and the positive opportunity it has given to stop and think. Tim addresses the need to, and focus on, enjoying the work you do and this is undoubtedly mirrored by the amazing experience guests would have at Tim's party.

Dropkick Murphys formed in 1996 in Boston, MA. The band was originally just a bunch of friends looking to play music for fun. We started playing in the basement of a friend’s barbershop and our goal was to blend the musical influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock, and Hardcore) into one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out of tune mix that we could call our own. To our surprise, people seemed to like it and we began to record music and tour constantly. To date, we have released numerous singles & EP’s, a live album, a DVD and six full-length albums and have had the good fortune of being able to play across a large portion of the world. We are truly grateful to the many friends and bands that have helped us out and supported us along the way in the US, Canada, Europe, U.K. Ireland, Scandinavia, and Australia as well as the many countries we look forward to playing in the next century. The bands’ main goal is to play the music that creates an all for one, one for all environments where everyone is encouraged to participate, sing along, and hopefully have a good time. In the true spirit of punk rock, we view the band and the audience as one and the same; in other words, our stage and our microphone are yours. In addition to hopefully bringing people together for a good time, we hope to share some of our experiences and beliefs in working-class solidarity, friendship, loyalty and self- improvement as a means to bettering society (i.e. You can preach till you’re blue in the face but if you’re lying in the gutter no one’s gonna listen. If you pick yourself up by the bootstraps and live your life to the best of your ability you may set an example that others will follow).

Tim Brennan is the inventor of Vivobarefoot shoes, the minimalist footwear that took the world by storm when it hit the market in the 2000s. Today barefoot style shoes are mainstream, but back when Tim designed and patented the very first version, it was a totally novel concept and very different from what shoe makers assumed was the most supportive kind of shoe. Barefoot shoes have a very loyal following all around the world today, almost two decades after Tim originally came up with this style of shoe. That's wild! Licensing expert and inventor Stephen Key interviews Tim, a longtime inventRight student, about his history of inventing and designing. Tim invented the barefoot style of shoe to help him get over his foot pain. Sometimes, when an inventor solves a problem they experience, they tap into a problem experienced by people all over the world. Pretty much everyone wears shoes! So the market potential was always huge. Tim was only 17 years old when he came up with the idea of Vivobarefoot shoes, which is especially incredible. https://www.vivobarefoot.com/us Watch our other interviews with professional inventor Tim Brennan: How Tim Invented a Safer Mandoline: https://youtu.be/Jo0OwayoUlQ This UK Inventor Pays His Bills With Royalties From Shoes: https://youtu.be/iW286fOr9aI Tim explains why he decided to sign up and become an inventRight student even though he had already licensed a popular product to a big company. He wanted to learn more, really enjoy the process, and become a master at licensing. His design degrees didn't even address licensing! He had to let go of the details of design, and focus on showing more ideas more quickly, with good marketing material. Which is difficult to do if you've studied design, and taught to focus on the details! If you're a designer, you need to learn how to think like a marketer. Bringing an invention to market? The best way of upping your odds of inventing success is befriending companies that are looking for ideas. That's how professional inventor Tim Brennan was inspired to invent a safer mandoline, the kitchen tool that is used to cut very thin, even slices of vegetables. At the housewares trade show in Chicago, the beloved company Joseph Joseph told Tim that's what they needed — it was an industry-wide problem. Was he up for the challenge? Yes! Tim set out to invent and design a better, safer mandoline. Licensing expert Stephen Key interviews Tim about his invention success story. The design question Tim needed to solve was, "How do you hold directly the stuff that you're chopping without risking your fingers?" He knew consumers wanted to feel like they were holding the vegetable in need of slicing. https://www.josephjoseph.com/en-us/multi-grip-mandoline It's important to establish relationships like a professional, which includes going to trade shows! Panel event recorded on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at TPI Conference Center, 409 12th Street, SW, Second Floor, Washington, DC 20024. To maximize spectrum’s value, it must be able to transition to new uses as technologies emerge. The C-Band includes 500 MHz of particularly desirable spectrum between 3.7 and 4.2 GHz that is currently allocated for satellite use. Given fast-growing wireless use and emerging 5G technologies, there is widespread agreement that at least some C-Band spectrum should be available for terrestrial uses instead of satellite uses, and that the reallocation should happen as quickly as possible. But there is less agreement on how much to reallocate and how to do it. The largest satellite companies that currently use the band have proposed a private sale. T-Mobile has proposed an incentive auction similar to the one the FCC recently completed for broadcast spectrum. Broadcasters and cable companies, meanwhile, are wary of reallocations that may disrupt the airwaves that they use to distribute programming. This panel will discuss the economic, policy, and practical implications of the competing proposals as well as whether and how the FCC will respond to these options for C-Band reallocation. Panelists included Tim Brennan, Professor, Public Policy and Economics, University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Colleen King, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Charter Communications; Patrick McFadden, National Association of Broadcasters, Peter Pitsch, Head of Advocacy & Government Relations, C-Band Alliance; Steve Sharkey, Vice President, Government Affairs, Engineering and Technology Policy, T-Mobile; Scott Wallsten (moderator), President and Senior Fellow, Technology Policy Institute

For over twenty years, they’ve made music that’s reflected the culture and community they’ve come from, including their platinum single "Shipping Up to Boston." In January 2017, they released the album "11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory," which includes the song Blood. In this episode, guitarist Tim Brennan breaks down how the music for Blood was made, and the band founder Ken Casey explains the inspiration behind the lyrics. songexploder.net/dropkick-murphys

Turnpike: Turnpike have been around for a good long while, releasing a few CDs and 7”s here and there. They’re better known as a live band, having played probably close to a hundred or so shows in Brisbane, the kind of band you see name-dropped in interviews rather than writ in large type. Tim Brennan of TYM’s guitars says of the band, “Turnpike are, and will always be one the best bands you’ve probably never heard of and probably one of the best bands to ever come out of Brisbane … They are impossible to be a fan of as you can’t buy any of their music and they rarely play live, you can’t even get a T shirt.” That said, not long after this performance they finally finished making their latest record. Recorded by SLAM Sound. Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at Sonic Masala Festival, Brisbane. June 21st 2014. Scul Hazzards: Scul Hazzards originated from Brisbane in the mid-2000s and after quickly churning out a couple of full-length LPs decided to relocate to London in 2008. They returned to Australia a couple of years later, this time settling in Melbourne. After touring the country upon their return they’ve been relatively quiet up until just recently. This year saw the band returning to the stage more often with shows in Melbourne, Sydney and of course Brisbane. It still remains to be seen if they’ll follow-up their 2009 and record ‘Landlord’, but never lose hope. Recorded by SLAM Sound. Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at Sonic Masala Festival, Brisbane. June 21st 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 29 August 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.

Tim Brennan, in conversation with Stephen Foster in 2009, talks about his exhibition English Anxieties, which combines original archival material of Mass Observation and the re-working of an account by British explorer and archaeologist T.C. Lethbridge of a concealed enemy presence in Cambridgeshire; by taking descriptions and drawings made by Lethbridge as a starting point, the work represents this data in the form of large, colourful maps inspired by the Isotype graphical system developed in the 1930s.
