Abolishing ageism is not only the mission of FOX Rehabilitation, on this week's episode of the Live Better Longer podcast, we discover that The Pacemakers are all about shattering aging stereotypes, too. We chat with the Founder and Artistic Director of The Pacemakers—the self-proclaimed “groovy senior citizens dance team”—that has been seen spreading joy at athletic events, workshops, street fairs, and most recently at Dr. Tim Fox's Carole B. Lewis Lecture at CSM 2024. Susan explains how she transitioned from journalist to dance team leader and how she turned a bout of cyberbullying into the spark that created The Pacemakers. Susan gives us the lowdown on what it takes to be part of this elite squad (who range in age from 60-85 years old), how they have inspired others to keep shaking their groove thing, and their plans for 2024 and beyond. If you listen to one podcast this week, you'd be foolish not to listen to the origin story of the greatest older adult dance team we've ever seen!

FOX Founder, Dr. Tim Fox, often says that he wants to be seen riding his dirt bike when he's 100 years old. The point of his message is clear: age should not dictate your level of activity or prevent you from doing what you love. We think Dr. Fox would enjoy hanging out with this week's Live Better Longer podcast guest, 81-year-old Howard “Abe” Abel, who continues to stay active by splitting and stacking wood. Reading that on paper may raise some eyebrows, but after seeing the results—and realizing that the quality of his work probably can't be matched by someone three times his junior—what someone might think is impossible is just another afternoon of work for Abe, who chops away at ageism one log at a time. Find out what keeps this 81-year-old Paul Bunyan going and how long he plans on continuing to wield his chainsaw.

Everyone has an opinion about live streaming, pro or con. As I sift through it, I only want to give a platform to the most helpful, thoughtful voices, and Tim Fox is one of them. In this podcast, we talk about the content of a Facebook post Tim wrote that challenged the reasons most churches live stream their services, while offering some thoughtful alternatives. Tim is not anti tech, but he is good at asking deeper questions about what we're doing and why we're doing it. He offers eight points, all of which are thoughtful, including two that really caught my attention. And all four of his alternatives are helpful. Tim is a denominational leader in Georgia who spent several years leading a small church into a healthy turnaround. Also, this episode marks a change in the way I close podcasts. From this point on, if I have closing words after the interview (and I may not always) it will be to add something new to the conversation, not just to give a summation of it. And that's what I do at the end of this episode, so stick around for my additional thoughts. Description: This week, we're diving deep into the world of law firm innovation – and it's not about the latest tech or software. Our focus today is on the human side of things: talent, culture, and change management. I'm excited to introduce two pioneering guests who are leading the charge in reimagining what the modern law firm can be. Madeline shares her origin story, discussing her background from Panama and wanting to be a maritime lawyer to her becoming the innovation leader at Reed Smith. Tim talks about his early aspirations to be a fighter pilot, actually being a mailman and pizza delivery guy and his transition into law, eventually leading Ogletree's practice intelligence group to focus on data analysis and innovation. Growing that group from 1 to 30 plus. This is one winding road of unexpected twists and turns. Both discuss the importance of change management vs project management and user engagement in driving adoption of innovative solutions in the legal industry. It's all about the talent. The interview concludes with a discussion about favorite bands and songs. Wrap-up: It's clear that the landscape of law is changing, not just in terms of the technologies we use but more fundamentally in how we think about talent, culture, and change. A big thank you to Madeline Boyer and Tim Fox for sharing their insights and innovative approaches. On today's episode, Tim tells the story of how he went from a one-man band making Geriatric House Calls™ to recruiting his first colleagues and spending countless hours molding together a healthcare practice that was centered around believing in the strength of people, with the goal of helping older adults achieve optimal function. In our Silver Anniversary year, FOX Rehabilitation is still walking the walk, yet on a much larger scale—a team of over 3,000 clinicians treat patients in 28 different states.

In the first half of a two-part conversation, Tim talks about his early-life experiences, immigrating to America, and what eventually led him into the world of healthcare, physical therapy, and eventually founding FOX Rehabilitation. After losing both of his parents, he introduces us to the various people who mentored him and gave him a hand up, teaching him valuable lessons that he would later integrate into professional life. Tim then explains the frustration he felt after graduating from physical therapy school, and not being able to treat patients the way he was trained. This inspired him to find a better way for his patients to reach their optimal function.
