Joe Juvland and Freddy Morris dive deep into one of The Twilight Zone's most beloved episodes, "Time Enough at Last." The hosts explore the tragic tale of Henry Bemis, a mild-mannered bank teller whose passion for reading is constantly thwarted by his demanding job and unsupportive wife. When a nuclear catastrophe leaves him as the sole survivor, Bemis discovers an untouched library and finally has all the time in the world to read – until an cruel twist of fate threatens to destroy his newfound paradise. The episode, known for its iconic ending and powerful themes of anti-intellectualism and technological dependence, remains one of the series' most memorable and thought-provoking stories.

A classic Twilight Zone episode--Time Enough at Last stars the great Burgess Meredith. If there's a Twilight Zone hall of fame, Meredith is a first-ballot inductee. Most people have the image of Henry Bemis, his glasses lying in the rubble, with him repeating over and over, "it's not fair." But, is it? That's one of the questions we're going to pursue in this episode. We talk a bit about The Walking Dead, Godzilla, Shigeru Kayama, and why we seem to love apocalyptical/post-apocalyptic stories. We'll discuss these issues through Rod Serling's amazing Twilight Zone series. If you're interested in joining us on this journey, hit the subscribe button. There's always room for more. The answer in two days. Today's story was also an episode of The Twilight Zone. In season 1 episode 8, Burgess Meredith played Henry Bemis in the story written by Lynn Venable. Venable is only the second female author we have featured on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, and there will be many more. In the world of science fiction, there are stories that captivate our imaginations, and then there are those that haunt us with their poignant irony. Lynn Venable's "Time Enough at Last" falls into the latter category—a timeless tale that serves as a cautionary reminder of the value of time, the pursuit of passions, and the unexpected twists of fate. The narrative introduces us to Henry, a man whose life is a testament to relentless busyness. Plagued by poor eyesight, he hides behind thick glasses and toils away most of his waking hours at work. The precious few moments that remain are filled with the drudgery of domestic life, where his wife, averse to reading, finds solace in socializing and television.♥️Patreon Page - Help keep the show ad-free

In Episode 118, Billy Donnelly examines the convenient excuse of "not having enough time" when we're unable to do the things we claim we want to do. However, he sees this more as a problem of giving our time away to others and not claiming it for ourselves. He discusses the importance of setting boundaries and carving out slices of your life for you upon which others are not allowed to infringe or encroach. He talks about taking our time for us as a method of self-care and elaborates on the various pitfalls that you can create for yourself when you only give of yourself to others but never for yourself.
