More than 100 professional women's footballers have signed an open letter urging Fifa to drop the Saudi oil giant Aramco as a sponsor over humanitarian and environmental concerns. It follows Fifa's announcement - earlier this year - of a partnership with the firm that will run until 2027, giving the company sponsorship rights to the men's World Cup in 2026 and the Women's World Cup the following year. The words ‘Saudi Arabia' and ‘football' are increasingly used in the same sentence, and the country has become a huge player in the game. But it's not without controversy. The nation has been accused of ‘sportswashing' - with critics claiming Saudi Arabia is trying to improve its international reputation by investing in sports.BBC sports correspondent Katie Gornall talks us through why these players are speaking up, and if this petition could change things. We also hear from Manchester City striker Vivianne Miedema and Danish international Sofie Junge Pedersen about why they chose to sign. They discuss the win over Manchester City and how it feels to give Chelsea a lifeline back into the WSL title race, then there is in-depth discussion about the futures of Vivianne Miedema and Stina Blackstenius, whose current contracts expire in the summer. Tim and Aidan then talk about the other profiles of player Arsenal might need this summer, especially given their goal scoring record which has been far inferior to Chelsea and Manchester City this season. They discuss whether 25 players is too many for a season and the consistent rotation of the number 10 position and whether it needs greater clarity. You can follow Aidan on Twitter @BeltransMole and Tim @StillmanatorGet extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Katie Stengel will leave Liverpool this summer, so we're releasing our player profile documentary about her journey to The Reds to celebrate the Stateside superstar who brought smiles back to Merseyside... To help tell the story we first speak to Tony DaLuz, Katie's head coach at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where she made her journey from Florida to start out life as a student-athlete and got herself ready for a long and successful professional career. We also speak to Vivianne Miedema, the Arsenal forward and two-time FIFA World XI appearance maker, who played alongside Stengel during a very fruitful year-long spell at Bayern Munich - her first foray into Europe in which she scored nine goals in 20 appearances. Finally, we take a look back at Katie's return to the United States that eventually led her to Liverpool - via several loan spells in Australia to ensure she could play all-year round - and journalist Theo Lloyd-Hughes remembers how she had used that time to transform into a big personality, on and off the pitch.
