Kelly Smith is a long-time TYP listener and when I recently did a callout for some listener questions, Kelly volunteered to be the on-air asker of said questions. Rather than do that, I suggested she come up with some originals, slide into the virtual TYP studio and interview me on my own podcast. And she did. Not surprisingly I waffled, so this chat is going to air in three parts. This is part two and here's what I was asked. (1) What is it within yourself that has led towards what could be described as a life of service? (2) When did being accountable click for you? (3) Describe your favourite kind of person (4) How do you know when it's time to stop? Not quit but just pull back a bit in order to preserve energy or headspace (5) You can only do one exercise for the rest of your life - what is it? Today on The Midday Report, host Jane Dutton – standing in for Mandy Wiener – unpacks the major stories making headlines. We begin with a major development in the Joshlin Smith case. The long-awaited verdict has been delivered: Judge Nathan Erasmus has found Kelly Smith – the mother of the missing girl – along with her co-accused, Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn, guilty of kidnapping and human trafficking. Turning to the courts once again, proceedings in the murder case of a young man killed during a student protest at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha have been delayed. A power outage at the courthouse forced the case to be postponed. And in Pretoria, heightened police presence is being reported as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) prepare to march toward a controversial 'Orania-like' settlement. And it's a Friday, so sport and good things too. All this and more. Listen live - The Midday Report with Mandy Wiener is broadcast on weekdays from noon to 1pm on 702 and CapeTalk.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Season 5, EPISODE 231 Sustainable Beef: A Processing Plant Where Color Doesn't Matter New Beef Processing Plant With Competitive Fed Cattle Grid Premiums The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) recently showcased an innovative fed cattle grid pricing system at the NCBA Trade Show. This system, adopted by Sustainable Beef LLC, is set to transform the industry by offering competitive premiums for upper two-thirds Choice carcasses, regardless of hide color. Angus, Red Angus & Charolais Cross Cattle Receive Same Premium Tom Brink, RAAA CEO, announced that Sustainable Beef LLC, opening in April 2025 in North Platte, Nebraska, will implement a color-blind grid system, equally rewarding Red Angus, Black Angus, and smoky cattle. “This system levels the feeder calf market, allowing feedlots to confidently invest in Red Angus and black-hided cattle, knowing both will qualify for top premiums,” Brink said. Kelly Smith, RAAA Director of Commercial Marketing, emphasized RAAA's efforts to connect Red Angus producers with feedlots through its feeder cattle network. He highlighted that FCCP-tagged cattle will meet the Angus label's genetic verification standards, ensuring seamless access to premium marketing opportunities. Mark Nelson, Sustainable Beef's Director of Cattle Procurement, reinforced the company's commitment to sustainability and producer profitability. Sustainable Beef will provide an exceptional work environment and favor moderate carcass sizes, which naturally benefits Red Angus genetics. The RAAA-Sustainable Beef collaboration represents a significant step forward in ensuring equitable market opportunities for all quality cattle. This initiative will drive profitability for producers while delivering high-quality beef to consumers. For more details, visit RedAngus.org. Cattle Industry News JBS Sees Strong Demand Despite Challenges In The U.S. Cattle Cycle According to JBS executives, JBS expects a more challenging US cattle supply scenario in 2025 compared to last year, when strong beef consumption and initiatives to improve commercial and operational efficiencies contributed to the performance of the US beef business unit. Executives commented saying that the U.S. cattle cycle will likely be more challenging this year, regardless of the speed of herd replacement, specifically saying that JBS Beef North America's margins still have room to improve by 1% to 1.5% in 2025 due to the company's initiatives to improve commercial and operational efficiencies. Robust demand continues to support the company's investments in expanding its US meat processing and prepared food facilities. In February, JBS announced $200 million in investments to expand its beef production facilities in Cactus, Texas, and Greeley, Colo. In the other regions where JBS operates, demand for all animal proteins also remains strong. In this moment when all of our rights are under attack within the U.S., we are all fighting multiple battles simultaneously. But there is one area which unites us - health care; each of us needs it, and far too many people do not have access. I caught up with Kelly, an organizer with the Non-Violent Medicaid Army (NVMA) which is “a growing, politically independent force of the poor and dispossessed, united across identities, regions, races and issues, modeled after MLK's 'nonviolent army of the poor' from the first Poor People's Campaign of 1968.” NVMA “is not a coalition or a campaign but a network of organizations and committees that understand healthcare to be a strategic front of struggle to unite the working class,” and there are chapters across the country within Wyoming, Wisconsin, Texas, Indiana, Georgia, Massachusetts, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Maryland and Vermont. Throughout our time together, Kelly and I discuss her personal journey, and how liberation theology informs her activism, healthcare as a human right, the inequities within our healthcare system, and the need for collective action to address injustices while advocating for change. We also delved into the importance of community engagement and storytelling in pushing for healthcare rights, particularly through the NVMA; through #MedicaidMondays where they spotlight folks personal stories across their social media platforms (share your story by applying here), the impact of NVMA's National Call-In Days speaking up for Medicaid, along with the lessons they took away from last year's National Week of Action (September 21-28, 2024). Ultimately, Kelly and all the NVMA organizers remind us, through their daily work, that we belong to each other; and our voices are needed in the ongoing work of collective liberation. Monthly Saturday schools educate the community about Medicaid and healthcare rights. Sign up to attend Saturday, April 5, 1pm EST and watch the March 2025 session. Stay connected with NVMA on social media: Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. > Head to show notes for key episode takeaways, additional resources, and learn more about Kelly Smith who is on the national organizing team of the Nonviolent Medicaid Army and is co-coordinator of the New York Nonviolent Medicaid Army. She previously served as Tri-chair of the NYS Poor People's Campaign (NYSPPC), a role she held for several years. She is still involved with the Poor People's Campaign, mentoring leaders, working with the New York City Regional Committee and serving on the NYSPPC Coordinating Committee.
Part 2: Kelly Smith, Glen Wallace, Zach Robertson, and Alex Bruni of the VI Waste Management Authority Team invite everyone to a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6pm to 8pm at the UVI Great Hall.
Police say complaints of kidnapping and interfering with the course of justice in the Joshlin Smith case against Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie have been fully investigated. McKenzie was actively involved in searching for the then six-year-old girl, who disappeared from her Middelpos home, in Saldanha Bay in February last year. The child’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquen Apollis and his friend, Stevano van Rhyn, are on trial for kidnapping and human trafficking charges. Hey Team! In this episode, I'm sitting down with Kelly Smith, a yoga and meditation teacher who has ADHD herself and has guided over 23 million meditations through her incredibly popular podcast, Mindful In Minutes. Kelly walks us through why meditation is especially beneficial for the ADHD brain, what to realistically expect from starting a meditation practice, and how even just a few minutes a day can sharpen your focus, reduce impulsivity, and make executive functioning a bit less exhausting. We explore practical advice on how to start meditating, even when you're convinced it's not your thing, and break down the misconceptions that keep a lot of us with ADHD from ever even giving meditation a try. Kelly shares her insights on the best meditation styles for ADHD brains and introduces us to practices like yoga nidra that go beyond the mat and offer deep restorative rest—something I'm pretty sure we all could use more of. If you'd life to follow along on the show notes page you can find that at HackingYourADHD.com/217 YouTube Channel My Patreon This Episode's Top Tips Start small and aim for just 5-8 minutes of meditation daily. Research shows even short practices can significantly benefit the ADHD brain. Choose a simple focus, like your breath or a body scan, to help redirect your wandering mind. Remember, meditation isn't about silencing thoughts. Accept that distractions will happen, and when you notice them, just gently try to bring your attention back to the practice itself. Try performing regular mindful check-ins by simply pausing, taking a breath, and asking yourself honestly, "How am I doing right now?”

You can also catch our insightful interview on YouTube. Bio: Kelly Smith I'm the founder of Yoga For You, and the host of the Mindful in Minutes podcast. I'm an E-RYT 500, YACEP, and a location independent yoga and meditation teacher. I believe that there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to yoga and meditation, and your practice should be as unique as you are. I began practice yoga when I was middle school as a form of cross training for my sports, but it wasn't until I was 16 and my world was rocked by my mom's breast cancer diagnoses, and being trust into the role of primary caregiver at such a young age that I realized that yoga and meditation had the ability to heal, save, and get you through your darkest days. The week after I graduated college I enrolled in my first yoga teacher training, and haven't looked back since. Over the past 7 years I've dedicated myself to the practice and my students, taught over 5,000 hours, led trainings and retreats all over the world, and began sharing my personal guided meditations on my podcast, Mindful in Minutes. I love to lift people up through their tough times, and help them find their true north by focusing on the less physical yoga practices like meditation, yoga nidra, restorative yoga and mindful flows. I believe there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach and the secret to success is finding what works for you. I created Yoga For You, a location independent yoga and meditation school to serve students and teachers all over the globe that are ready to take the step and find the joyful life they deserve. I spend my days traveling globally offering trainings in restorative yoga, meditation, yoga nidra and recording meditations from my closet. If you're curious about my story you can hear it in my own words on this special episode of my podcast.
