Onze Handbalmannen hebben de afgelopen dagen in Noorwegen de Golden League gespeeld. Het samenwerkende Nederland, Noorwegen en Denemarken spelen dit vriendschappelijk toernooi in het jaar dat geen EK-kwalificatie wordt gespeeld, aangevuld met een vierde land, wat in dit geval de Faroër Eilanden was. Die Here is saam met julle!” (DB) Dink ‘n bietjie terug aan ‘n tyd toe jy so gespanne en onseker was, dat jy net nie geweet hoe jy die krisis gaan hanteer nie. Hoe het jy gevoel toe daar 'n onseker gesondheidsdiagnose was, of 'n finansiële nood, of 'n verhouding, wat besig was om skeef te loop? Ek dink ons voel almal  onder sulke omstandighede baie onseker. Ek het onlangs 'n jong paartjie met hul vyfjarige dogter wat met  kanker gediagnoseer is, dopgehou. Eers was daar die indringende, pynlike en traumatiese toetse... en toe die finale diagnose en chemoterapie...Die gerusstellende teenwoordigheid van daardie kind se pa en ma, was deurslaggewend tot haar vermoë om deur daardie lewensbedreigende situasie te kom. Sonder hulle sou dit heeltemal ondraaglik gewees het.En as ons eerlik is, laat die dinge wat somtyds met ons gebeur, ons net so klein en kwesbaar soos daardie vyfjarige voel. Ons verkeer in ‘n maalkolk van dinge, wat ons nie kan begryp of hanteer nie, wat rondom ons dwarrel. Het jy ook al so gevoel? Op ‘n tyd toe die Israeliete op die drumpel gestaan het om die Beloofde Land binne te gaan, het Moses hulle betroubare leier, ‘n nuwe leier aangestel. Moses was oud en sy gesondheid was besig om agteruit te gaan en sy opvolger, Josua, moes die volk op ‘n onbekende pad lei. Kan jy jou voorstel hoe hy moes gevoel het in so 'n onseker en gevaarlike tyd in Israel se geskiedenis? Maar kyk wat sê Moses vir Josua en die volk:Deuteronomium 31:6 “Wees sterk! Maar hulle het soos stoppels geword, hulle gaan verbrand. Hulle kan hulleself nie red van die vlamme nie. Daar bly nie eens kole oor om jou by warm te maak nie, 'n vuur om by te sit nie. Ek het onlangs opgelet dat astrologie skielik populêr geraak het. Kan jy glo dat bekendes kaarte raadpleeg voordat hulle besluite neem?'n Onlangse nuusartikel oor die onderwerp het berig:. Horoskope is tans so gewild dat 'n sekere astrologie-toepassing tot meer as 30 miljoen gebruikers het. Dan is daar na raming 100 miljard keer na astrologie-verwante inhoud op TikTok gekyk. Pasop! Dit is so maklik om in die versoeking te kom! Ek bedoel, dis sekerlik redelik onskadelik, net 'n bietjie pret eintlik. Nee my vriend, dis tyd om baie vinnig die gevaar raak te sien! Hier is God se siening oor hierdie hokus-pokus astrologie-besigheid: Jesaja 47:13-14 Jy het baie raadgewers. Is jy moeg vir die raad wat hulle gee? Stuur dan jou manne uit wat die sterre lees. Hulle kan sien wanneer die maand begin, so miskien kan hulle vir jou sê wanneer jou probleme sal kom. Maar hulle kan nie eers hulself red nie. Hulle sal soos strooi brand. Hulle sal so vinnig brand dat daar geen kole oor sal wees om brood te bak nie. Daar sal geen vuur oor wees om by te sit nie.God het die son, die maan en die sterre geskep om vir ons tyd aan te dui en ons kyk met verwondering daarna en sien God se almag, wysheid en oneindigheid. Astrologie is die “interpretasie” van ‘n “veronderstelde invloed” wat die sterre en planete op die mens se bestemming uitoefen. Glo my, dit is ‘n valse oortuiging.  Astrologie het sy oorsprong in Oosterse Afgodsdiens en is ‘n vorm van waarsêery wat uitdruklik in die Bybel verbied word. (Deut. 18:10-14). Dit mag dalk nuwerwets klink. Maar, my vriend, dit is nie onskuldige pret nie. Dit is gevaarlik. God veroordeel dit oor en oor. Dis 'n gevaarlike bedrieër. Wees dus gewaarsku. (NLV) Mense kan regtig ‘n pyn wees, nè? Hulle tree nie op soos ons van hulle verwag nie. Hulle lewer nie die resultaat wat ons wil hê nie. Hulle stem nie met ons saam nie. En hoe nader hulle aan ons is, hoe meer trap hulle op ons tone.Ek het onlangs in 'n dokter se wagkamer gesit. Daar was twee ontvangsdames – 'n jonger een en 'n ouer een. Hoe dit ook al sy, die spesialis het uitgekom om met die ouer een oor iemand se hospitaal opname te praat.Die dokter het so ongeduldig en onnodig skerp met haar gepraat (al het dit geblyk dat sy die regte ding gedoen het en hy verkeerd was) dat ek by myself gedink het: Daardie twee moet getroud wees, want ‘n mens praat beslis nie so met 'n personeellid nie!Dit is regtig hartseer as jy daaroor dink. Sy vrou behoort die kosbaarste persoon in die wêreld vir hom te wees. En tog het enigiemand wat getroud is, al so opgetree. Enigiemand wat kinders het, het ook. Ons laat toe dat ons ongeduld manifesteer in 'n harde toon, of 'n frons ... of nog erger.Die feit van die saak is dat mense in hierdie wêreld nie altyd aan ons verwagtings sal voldoen nie. Ja, hulle sal nie altyd dinge op ons manier sien nie. En ja, hulle sal nie altyd na ons pype dans nie. After being the first candidate to declare, the campaign of Emma Durand-Wood has knocked on every door in Elmwood-East Kildonan. In Episode 52, she tells about her platform, her background in urban issues, and her vision for the ward as the October 25th vote draws near. A writer and editor by trade, Emma Durand-Wood moved to Elmwood in 2008 from Vancouver. While not being involved in politics there, her rise through community organizing in Winnipeg is similar to the BC progressive playbook. She's been endorsed by Shaun Loney, who finished fourth in the 2022 Mayoral election as the far left-wing choice. It appears he's the only one from that race to publicly endorse a successor to Coun. Jason Schreyer. Loney has vowed to put together a slate of like-minded people for next year's election. Part 1- Durand-Wood says that at the doorstep, a "common set of concerns" emerge. She recounts what she heard about crime, homelessness, the emergence of Transit complaints, and "a lot" of people want civic investment in youth programs. She tells Marty Gold about her own experiences living in the ward and how long it took to get a gang house shut down. "Have the police been effective? They've been very very busy... we need to take tackling crime as a community effort."10.00 - "We can't have this chaos of encampments."Durand -Woods hadn't considered the idea of establishing a monitored encampment at the Legislature. She disavows the political violence seemingly espoused by a prominent campaigner for her, who posted that the Charlie Kirk vigil at the Legislature was like "a Klan rally." 46.00- Citing a petition drive in EK showing support of 80-90% for lower residential speed limits, she maintains "it actually is not an extreme idea." Durand-Wood supports infill housing, and is asked about whether opposition to zoning changes because the demand for housing is rooted in mass immigration is also "not an extreme position". "I was part of the group that led the effort to get this going in Minnesota before it was handed off as a national initiative in 2015," she explained. She rejoined the effort in 2022, working remotely for USAging (formerly the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging), and has witnessed the program's remarkable expansion.The initiative took root through Minnesota's Area Agencies on Aging, which spearheaded community-level changes. Recognizing its potential, the program went national at the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. USAging stepped up as the administrator, leveraging its network of over 600 area agencies on aging and Title VI programs to provide a backbone for the movement. "They've been powering the Dementia Friendly America movement since 2015," Ek said, noting how the model from Minnesota—starting small and creating ripple effects—has scaled nationwide.What Is Dementia Friendly America?At its core, DFA is a multi-sector approach to building communities where people with dementia and their care partners can live well, engage socially, and remain in their homes as long as possible. "It's essentially a multi-sector approach to creating communities where people living with dementia and their care partners can live, engage, thrive, play, and just live well with dementia," Ek described. It's not limited to healthcare; it involves businesses, faith communities, libraries, banks, first responders, and more. The goal is to equip everyone—from individuals to organizations—with simple tools to make environments more supportive.The Three Pillars of DFADFA rests on three interconnected pillars, each designed to drive change at different levels:Dementia-Friendly Communities: This community-level effort brings sectors together to adapt spaces and services. Over 400 communities have engaged, starting with small steps like making faith communities or libraries more accessible. "It truly is a ripple effect," Ek said, noting how volunteer-driven groups, departments on aging, or local foundations lead these flexible, adaptable initiatives.Dementia Friends USA: Adopted in 2016 as a sub-license from the global program originating in Japan, this individual-focused pillar educates people on recognizing dementia signs, communication tips, and taking action. Participants commit to simple acts, like supporting a neighbor or encouraging others to join. With over 225,000 Dementia Friends across the U.S. and sessions in more than 40 states (plus an online option), it's a catalyst for broader change. "We want to teach people to walk toward people living with dementia rather than away," Ek explained.Memory Cafe Alliance: The newest pillar, this partnership provides safe, welcoming spaces for people with dementia and their care partners to socialize. Over 500 cafes are listed on the DFA website, offering free gatherings with food, music, activities, or entertainment. "It's not about the diagnosis; it's about just celebrating all that they can do and enjoy together," Ek said. An online curriculum helps anyone start a cafe, often beginning with Dementia Friends training.

It's a social hour, which everyone needs.” Attendees say things like, “I learned joy at a memory cafe,” reflecting real emotional uplift.Combating Isolation and StigmaDementia can cause deep isolation due to symptoms, stigma, or misunderstanding. Soltzberg stressed how activities once enjoyed may become harder, increasing loneliness. Memory Cafes provide joyful, normalizing spaces to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones.By emphasizing fun and belonging, Cafes counter stigma. Soltzberg notes, “People can live with dementia for many years. They need to keep living their lives.” Ek points out that DFA's Dementia Friends program teaches meaningful engagement for non-professionals, turning uncertainty into positive action.Real-Life Stories of ImpactPersonal stories reveal the transformative power of Memory Cafes. Soltzberg recounted helping a woman invite her decades-long friend with dementia to a music-themed Cafe. The invitation rekindled friendship and gave remote relatives peace of mind, knowing a joyful activity was scheduled. In a crowded field of seven hopefuls, Zekharia Selahadin is hoping his simple grassroots approach will generate support on October 25th from voters in Elmwood- East Kildonan. Part 1- He moved to Canada from Ethiopia as a child and grew up in Elmwood, and has worked in childcare and with the Green Team. In Episode 49, Selahadin discusses the top issues he's hearing about at the doorstep- including crime and road and sidewalk conditions. He's joined the call for a replacement of the Louise Bridge. The new and far-from-improved Transit system also comes up, as "I've seen many individuals waiting for a bus and it's full and people are squished inside it. I've seen the frustration first-hand." It's affected his own family members getting to and from work at night and he worries about their safety, especially with the longer walks now required. Marty Gold asks him if the management of Winnipeg Transit needs to be hauled on the carpet.25.45 Part 2- Selahadin agrees "it's important to have a car" in Winnipeg but wants residential speed limits reduced to 30k and more bike lanes. 37.25- Crime and disorder from homeless encampments are impacting the ward. Selahadin says that while "police are trying their best" supports for those who want to get housed need to be maintained. He's not sure if a centralized encampment area, like at the Legislature, would work because "a fight club" could result between rival factions placed in close proximity to each other. Wednesday Oct. 1 2025, sundownEnding nightfall of Thursday Oct 2, 2025This morning we shall discuss the “Day of Atonement” or known as “Yom Kippur” [ Yom = the day, Kippur = ask for forgiveness].  Other words this is a special Feast in which you and I ask our Heavenly Father for all those sins which we may have overlooked throughout the past year.In recognition of Yahweh's Words, we are instructed to honor and respect His 7 Holy Feast periods. Check out Lev. 23 and Deut. 16. Now I realize that the conditions set forth by Yahweh differs from what He sets forth in the beginning. What caught my interest into these 7 Holy Feasts was the Prophetic Message contained within them. We find that within these 7, 4 are in the season of the spring, while the remaining 3 are in the fall or “harvest.  In studying the Prophecy aspect of Yahweh's Words, we realize and conclude that these 7 Holy Feasts play an important role in the Prophecy of Yahshua Messiah concerning the past and the present. Let's take a brief view of the first 4 Feasts:The Feast of Passover pointed to Yahshua's death on Calvary as “the Lamb of Yahweh, who taketh away the sin of the world”, John 1:29 The Feast of Unleavened Bread attested to the fact that Yahshua's body, unlike all others would not decay in the grave. The Son of Yahweh, in speaking with His Heavenly Father said, “for Thou wilt not leave My soul in hell, neither wilt Thou permit Thine Holy One to see corruption” Psalms 16:10 The Feast of Firstfruits proclaimed the certainty of His bodily resurrection. The acceptance by Yahweh of the Firstfruits [sheaf] of the spring barley harvest guaranteed a full harvest to follow. By virtue of the resurrection of Yahshua Messiah, He is the Firstfruit and guarantees that all the Saints within Him will one day rise from the grave. The Feast of Pentecost, which occurs exactly 50 days after Firstfruits [the resurrection of the Messiah] anticipated the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the origin of the “Ek-kelsia”. We read in the Jewish Talmud, in the tractate of Sotah, foli #48 it reads in part “when Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi died, the Holy Spirit departed from Israel; nevertheless they made use of the Bath Kol.” [a divine voice from Heaven] These 4 events in the life of Yahshua Messiah, which the 4 spring feasts depicted, are history. We can look back at these events and they can be examined as historical facts. We can say that the first 4 set the foundation for the remaining 3. [As I think on this foundation, I think of the Tabernacle, which is to come, and when this Tabernacle comes, then all of His Elect come to dwell in the eternal] The fall Feasts have not yet occurred! They are yet future and predict with absolute certainty, events that will most assuredly unfold. As the 4 spring Feasts were fulfilled literally and right on schedule in connection with the Messiah's first coming, the 3 Fall Feasts will likewise be fulfilled literally and right on schedule in connection with His second coming. What about the future of the Day of Atonement? Read Hebrews 10:1; Hebrews 9:6-14 As we read last week on that Feast of Trumpets. We find in Rev. 11 those 2 witnesses, when they rose after those 3 ½ days. In verse 15 we read of that 7th trumpet being blown. From the time of that trumpet sound until that final cup of wrath is poured out, we have that opportunity to make atonement for our sins that took place during the tribulation period. Especially those that followed after that false messiah, thinking he was that true Messiah. What a sad sight, as some flee to the mountains praying for the rocks to fall on them, instead of making atonement. Have any questions?
