Hoe bly mens tot diep in jou siel getrou aan Jesus?Mariam Farahat was 'n Palestynse Christen wat onder groot druk na Islam oorgestap het, maar later in die geheim na Christus teruggekeer het - al het dit volgens plaaslike wetgewing, die doodstraf beteken. Toe sy gevang is, is sy toegesluit en gemartel. Ten spyte van al die dreigemente en mishandeling, het sy geweier om Jesus weer te verloën. Hoe is 'n mens veronderstel om Hom te ken, naby aan Hom te kom of sy teenwoordigheid te ervaar as Hy nie meer hier by ons is nie? Verduidelik dit vir my!Die bekende Engelse verpleegster en sosiale hervormer, Florence Nightingale, word allerweë beskou as die stigter van moderne verpleegkunde. In die laat 1800's was sy vir lank bedlêend en min mense het haar in die openbaar gesien, maar sy het deur haar briewe ‘n sterk invloed uitgeoefen.Vanuit haar siekbed in Londen het sy talle briewe aan politici, hospitaalrade en militêre leiers geskryf. Hoewel haar liggaam swak was, is haar impak oor groot afstande gevoel. Het is een spannende periode voor de topturners en -turnsters in Nederland. Afgelopen weekend is namelijk de reeks kwalificatiewedstrijden voor de EK-selectie begonnen. Wie gaat het lukken zich te knokken in de groep die Nederland van 13 t/m 23 augustus zal gaan vertegenwoordigen op de continentale kampioenschappen in Zagreb? Ook een groep atleten van Turnz Amsterdam, regerend Nederlands kampioen bij de teams, is in de running zich hiervoor te plaatsen. Ek is Jokkie Gauché en hier is VARSVANDAG se Eerste Nuusbrief vir Julie. Ek kan skaars wag om vandag ‘n wonderlike getuienis - ‘n storie van God se genade wat my diep geraak het - met jou te deel.  Sarie Greeff, een van ons intekenaars, vertel: Jare gelede is ek verlam as gevolg van 'n virus wat ek opgedoen het. Volgens die mediese span was daar geen hoop vir my nie. Ek het in 'n Johannesburgse hospitaal gelê — ek was  op sterwe. Ek het vier maande lank in die intensiewe-sorgeenheid deurgebring. Toe ons mediese fonds opgeraak het, moes ons 'n baie moeilike besluit neem. In geloof het ons besluit om die hospitaal op eie risiko te verlaat. Die neuroloog se laaste woorde was: "Sy sal net 24 uur leef." Maar God is goed - en groter as enige mediese vonnis. Jesus het my aangeraak nadat daar vir my gebid is. Daardie 24 uur is nou 46 jaar later. Ek loop. Ek doen alles self. En dit is die werk van ons Vader — die Een wat nog nooit verander het nie, en nooit sal verander nie.  Hebreërs 11:1 sê: Om te glo, is om seker te wees van die dinge wat ons hoop, om oortuig te wees van die dinge wat ons nie sien nie.  o  Baie dankie aan almal wat gereeld van hulle laat hoor! Ons lees elke boodskap en waardeer elke “Amen” en “Halleluja” – dit beteken dat julle die boodskappe betekenisvol vind.o  Deur julle getroue bydraes bereik ons daagliks duisende mense met VARS-boodskappe. So word VARS ook jou bediening. Laat weet ons by die skakel in die teks:  Wat is die grootste uitdaging wat jy daagliks in die gesig staar? Want Galasiërs 6:2 sê:  Dra mekaar se laste en vervul so die wet van Christus. o  Sê ook saam met ons vir die Here dankie vir die vreedsame verloop van die betogings teen ongedokumenteerde buitelanders. Ryssland vill dra nytta av ett stigande oljepris och risiga fartyg ur skuggflottan trängs i Östersjön. Samtidigt vidtar flera länder tuffare åtgärder. Felicia Hassan har följt med den estniska marinen ut i Finska viken, där en lång rad tankfartyg ligger på svaj och där även ryska militärbåtar syns patrullera. Uppmärksammade bordningar av misstänkt falskflaggade fartyg i bland annat Belgien och Sverige har under våren prövat juridiken till havs. Nu vill även EU gå längre mot den ryska skuggflottan och EU:s utrikeschef Kaja Kallas talar om att ”ta av sig handskarna”. Men vad mer går att åstadkomma genom utökade sanktioner? Under våren har även ukrainska drönarattacker mot ryska hamnar påverkat skuggflottans utrymme att verka, samtidigt som mer står på spel för Ryssland.
