In this episode of The Quest for Success Podcast, Jam and Dylan Pathirana travel to Melbourne to sit down with David Cruse, owner of Spicy Wicket restaurant in Glen Waverley and a beloved figure in Australia's Sri Lankan community, for a warm and heartfelt conversation on hospitality, relationships and giving without expectation.David shares his journey from a childhood spent moving across Sri Lanka as an Air Force kid to migrating to Australia 45 years ago, where his very first job at the iconic Rockmans Regency Hotel launched a lifelong career in hospitality. From rubbing shoulders with rock stars and tennis legends to running a hotel for 30 years with his wife, David's story is one of hard work, humility and genuine human connection. The conversation takes us from Melbourne to Colombo and back again, as David reflects on his attempt to retire in Sri Lanka, the restaurant he built there with close friend Upali Dharmadasa, and why he ultimately returned to Australia to open Spicy Wicket, bringing authentic Sri Lankan cuisine to Melbourne's competitive food scene. At the heart of this episode is David's deep connection to cricket. Surrounded by a remarkable collection of memorabilia in his restaurant's 12th Man Bar, he shares stories of lifelong friendships with Sri Lankan cricket legends including Roshan Mahanama, Aravinda de Silva and Chaminda Vaas, his role as a bridge between Sri Lankan and Australian cricket through the historic Paran Cricket Club, and the priceless artefacts entrusted to him, including items signed by Don Bradman and a silver ashtray from the 1948 Invincibles tour.David also opens up about his commitment to giving back, from organising tsunami relief flights in 2004 to supporting the Foundation of Goodness and sponsoring young cricketers who lost their families. His philosophy is simple but powerful: do everything without expecting anything in return. This episode is a beautiful reminder that success is not measured in dollars. It is measured in the relationships you build, the lives you touch and the ability to sleep well at night knowing you kept your promises.Key Takeaways• Success is measured by relationships, not money.• Hospitality is built on genuine care and human connection.• Hard work and humility create long-lasting respect.• Giving without expectation creates meaningful impact.• Cricket can build lifelong friendships and community.• Legacy is created through trust and keeping promises.• Supporting others is one of life's greatest responsibilities.• Passion and purpose can lead to unexpected opportunities.• Community service creates lasting change beyond business.• True peace comes from knowing you have done the right thing.Spicy Wicket Restaurant: https://www.upalismelbourne.com.au/Follow us on all your favourite platforms:Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheQuestforSuccessPodFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/The-Quest-For-Success-Podcast/61560418629272/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thequestforsuccesspod/Twitter: https://x.com/quest4success_LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-quest-for-successTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thequestforsuccesspodWebsite: www.thequestforsuccesspodcast.com Please share this around to anyone you think will get value from it : )

Originally recorded in 2018 — this episode has been remastered and re-released following the passing of Australian basketball legend Ken Cole. Ken Cole, a championship-winning coach of the Adelaide 36ers and architect of the iconic 1986 "Invincibles" season (24–2), left a lasting impact on basketball in Australia — as a coach, leader, and later President of the Sixers. In this interview, Ken reflects on his return to the Adelaide 36ers, his battle with multiple myeloma, and shares unforgettable stories from the early days of the NBL — from the birth of the game in Australia to the evolution of imports, trash talking, and player development. This episode also captures Ken's thoughts at the time on the Adelaide 36ers roster, the Mitch Creek NBA situation, and what it takes to build a winning culture. This remastered version features improved audio quality. Vale Ken Cole. In this episode: • Why Ken returned to the Adelaide 36ers (2:00) • Battling cancer and mindset for survival (9:30) • Thoughts on the 2018 Adelaide 36ers roster (19:30) • The 1986 championship "Invincibles" season (36:00) • Basketball in Australia in the 60s & 70s (54:00) • The origins of trash talking in Australia (1:43:00) • Classic NBL stories from the early days (1:47:00) • Imports in the NBL — should they be limited? By Far The Greatest Team Football Podcast

How Great Were Arsenal 1997–1999? | Wenger's Revolution BeginsHow does a famously old-school English powerhouse become modern overnight — and, in the process, help change football forever? In this episode of By Far The Greatest Team, Graham Dunn and Jamie Rooney are joined by Arsenal fan Andrew Walker to dive into Arsenal 1997–1999 — the era where Arsène Wenger takes a title-winning back four, injects new ideas, new habits, and new attacking rhythm, and turns Arsenal into the team that drags English football into a different age.We trace Wenger's arrival at Highbury, the scepticism that greeted him, and the speed with which he reshaped the club's identity: not just tactically, but culturally. From training ground methods and nutrition to squad management, recovery, sports science, and recruitment, this is the moment football begins to look and feel different in England. But this isn't just about innovation. It's about the football — the chemistry between Bergkamp, Overmars, Vieira, Petit, Adams, and the old guard; the rise of Nicolas Anelka; the run-in of 1997–98; the tension of the rivalry with Manchester United; and the season that ends with Arsenal lifting the Double. We also dig into the wider context: why Arsenal felt like a hybrid side — old steel and new elegance — and how Wenger's first great team laid the foundations for everything that followed, from Highbury's tactical reinvention to the Invincibles. This is where Arsenal stop being just a big club and become a football idea.TakeawaysWhy Arsène Wenger's arrival was one of the most important managerial appointments in football historyHow Wenger changed Arsenal's culture through nutrition, training, recovery, and sports scienceThe balance between old Arsenal resilience and new technical, attacking sophisticationWhy players like Vieira, Bergkamp, Adams, Overmars, and Anelka were so vital to the transformationThe significance of the 1997–98 Double in redefining Arsenal's place in English footballHow the rivalry with Manchester United sharpened Wenger's first great sideWhy this era laid the foundations for Arsenal's modern identity and future greatnessListen / Watch

Reacher and Kohl, along with Anthony Frasconi, intercept one of Quinn’s buyers, a Syrian businessman, Safwan Qasim, whom they force to assist in capturing Quinn. Having evidence to prosecute him, Reacher allows Kohl to arrest Quinn. Quinn instead kidnaps Kohl. In his search for her, Reacher finds Frasconi dead in a house, and later finds Kohl’s bloody body hanging in a cabin; Quinn brutally murdered her. Reacher finds Quinn and shoots him in retaliation, apparently killing him. Back in the present, Zachary sends Reacher to a factory where they have located Doll’s laptop and where Duffy is. Reacher heads to the factory as three of Quinn’s men arrive there. Episode 5: Smackdown Director: Norberto Barba Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: March 6, 2025 Summary: When Reacher can’t contact Duffy, he calls Eliot to call the company’s number. When Eliot calls, a gunfight breaks out between Quinn’s men and Duffy and Villanueva; Reacher helps Duffy and Villanueva escape. At the cabin, the captive bodyguard takes advantage of Eliot’s mistake to kill him and escape. After discovering that the feds are spying on them, Quinn’s men move into the house. When Duffy finds Eliot dead and the bodyguard has escaped, she calls Reacher to tell him so and get him out of the house, but Reacher formulates a plan involving Villanueva. Duffy cuts the power and Reacher uses Villanueva as bait to kill the bodyguard. Back at the house, Zachary informs Reacher that Annette, the maid, was an ATF infiltrator and that Paulie has killed her. Reacher tells Duffy that several Feds are spying on them and that Quinn is dealing in firearms, not drugs. The next morning, Zachary informs Reacher that they have been summoned to a factory. Reacher and Zachary arrive there just as they are about to meet Quinn. Creating is different to managing.Creators try to break rules, managers set them.Creators look inward, managers look outward.Creators are introverts, managers are extroverts. Not 100%, but most, AMV/BBDO once Myers Briggs tested their creative department. The results came back - fifty people were rated ‘I' (introvert), one was ‘E' - the creative boss (Peter Souter).I's are ‘more likely to be successful in careers like writing, science and art'.Makes sense.“I's are predominantly concerned with their own thoughts and feelings rather than with external things. Give an extrovert a problem and they'll share it with others, give it to an introvert and they'll ‘go into a cave alone to solve it'.(Try finding a cave these days. In Soho. Nightmare.)Today, creatives are often described as being “on the spectrum”.Whether their diagnosis is right or wrong, it's true, our brains are wired differently. It's fine when they need someone to look at a problem from a new angle.More difficult when they need someone to play the role of manager. That dark, cosy cave is swapped for bright, stranger-filled boardrooms.Primarily to pitch, possibly the furthest distance from that cave. You may be told to ‘have chemistry' with six strangers from the world of moist wipes.Or to present your funniest ‘jokes' to some folks about to spend £6m persuading the public that their product has isn't a cake, as its name suggests, it's actually a biscuit. It's an adjustment. Some adapt quicker than others.I found it tough. In the early days of CDD, clients having just left after a pitch, Peter Mead looked up at me and sighed “You should've seen David Abbott present creative work”.Heartbreaking.What did Abbott do?How did he present?I'd love to have seen him present creative work. But agencies rarely invest in training or mentoring, they lob you in and hope you can swim. It's like telling a footballer to “Put this helmet and shin pads on, you're now a Cricketer'.How do you make that transition less record scratchy?I thought it'd be helpful for those about to go through it to have a bit more understanding of where they're headed. To do this, I managed to pin down someone who knows more about pitching than anyone else; Martin Jones. He's sat on both sides of the table - he ran new business at the biggest agency in Britain at the time; J. Walter Thompson, then ran the biggest intermediary in the Country for the last thirty years; The AAR.Personally, he's run over a thousand over the last thirty years. It's meant that he's seen every agency and senior person pitch.I've known Martin since Arsenal's Invincibles team, over the years he's given me endless advice, but hearing him talk about his experience was a revelation. If you have anything to do with new business; listen, you'll be better at the end.Hope you enjoy it.
